In the period of shelling of energy facilities of Ukraine by the enemy, emergency damage to the working blades of the rotors and stators of the turbines occurs. Papers related to the determination of the thermal and stress-strain states of power equipment elements, which have a significant impact in the conditions of the CHPP operation after its damage, are quite relevant. The authors determine the thermal and stress-strain states that occur after damage to the medium-pressure rotor (MPR) of the T-100/120-130 power unit of the CHPP under emergency damage conditions. When calculating the thermal and stress-strain states of the MPR, taking into account the technical audit data on damage, a geometric model of the MPR was created, which takes into account all existing emergency damage and changes in the frame compared to the design one. When starting from the cold state of the T-100/120-130 turbine MPR, the maximum intensities of conditional elastic stresses at the moment of time of 16800 s in the zone of the seal groove behind the third non-regulated stage of the MPR are equal to σі=127 MPa, and in the zone of the axial opening – σі=125 MPa. The maximum intensities of conditional elastic stresses at the moment of time of 18000 s in the zone of the seal groove behind the third non-regulated stage of MPR are equal to σі=123 MPa, and in the zone of the axial hole – σі=125 MPa when starting from an uncooled state. The maximum intensities of conditional elastic stresses during start-ups from the hot state of the T-100/120-130 turbine MPR at the moment of time of 6400 s (3000 rpm) in the zone of the first unregulated stage in the seal groove according to the MPR stage are equal to σі=201 MPa, and in zone of the axial opening they are equal to σі=161 MPa. The intensities of conditional elastic stresses at the moment of time of 7000 s (3000 rpm) in the zone of the first unregulated stage in the seal groove according to the degree of MPR σі=168 MPa and in the zone of the axial hole σі=161 MPa also are significant.

Abstract Background Visual impairment is a common consequence of neurological impairments, and can impact a person’s ability to undertake everyday tasks, affecting their confidence and mental health. Previous qualitative research in the UK has shown inequalities to exist where patients are accessing vision care after stroke, but little is known around the experiences of accessing vision care following other neurological impairments, and a lack of national guidelines prevent standardised care planning. The aim of this qualitative study is to explore the perceptions of vision care after neurological impairment, and to identify possible inequalities and support mechanisms, where it has been possible to access vision care. Methods University ethical approval was obtained, and adults with a visual impairment as a result of a neurological impairment were offered an in-depth interview to explore their vision care experiences. Data were collected between April and November 2021 and analysed using iterative, thematic analysis (TA), informed by a social constructionist ideology. Results Seventeen participants were recruited. Three overarching themes were conceptualised in relation to the participants’ perception of vision care: Making sense of the visual impairment; The responsibility of vision care; and Influential factors in care quality perception. Conclusion Inequalities were noted by participants, with most reporting a lack of suitable vision care offered as part of their neurological rehabilitation. Participants were thus burdened with the task of seeking their own support online, and encountered inaccurate and worrying information in the process. Participants noted changes in their identity, and the identity of their family carers, as they adjusted to their vision loss. The findings from this research highlight a need for clinicians to consider the long-term impact of vision loss after neurological impairment, and ensure patients are provided with adequate support and information, and appropriate referral pathways, alleviating this patient burden.

Abstract Background Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by persistent, unwanted thoughts and repetitive actions. Such repetitive thoughts and/or behaviors may be reinforced either by reducing anxiety or by avoiding a potential threat or harm, and thus may be rewarding to the individual. The possible involvement of the reward system in the symptomatology of OCD is supported by studies showing altered reward processing in reward-related regions, such as the ventral striatum (VS) and the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), in adults with OCD. However, it is not clear whether this also applies to adolescents with OCD. Methods Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, two sessions were conducted focusing on the anticipation and receipt of monetary reward (1) or loss (2), each contrasted to a verbal (control) condition. In each session, adolescents with OCD (n1=31/n2=26) were compared with typically developing (TD) controls (n1=33/ n2=31), all aged 10-19 years, during the anticipation and feedback phase of an adapted Monetary Incentive Delay task. Results Data revealed a hyperactivation of the VS, but not the OFC, when anticipating both monetary reward and loss in the OCD compared to the TD group. Conclusions These findings suggest that aberrant neural reward and loss processing in OCD is associated with greater motivation to gain or maintain a reward but not with the actual receipt. The greater degree of reward ‘wanting’ may contribute to adolescents with OCD repeating certain actions more and more frequently, which then become habits (i.e., OCD symptomatology).

We define an extreme loss event as a daily return at the left tail of negative two standard deviations of all daily returns for a specific stock. Prior studies focus on the relationship between extreme losses and specific anticipated announcements. Our study identifies the extreme loss events after they are randomly realized, and examines the return patterns of the equities in question on stochastic event setups. We investigate the daily returns of 2,651 stocks traded in the U.S. equity markets and identified 217,990 extreme loss events from the 1950s to early 2019. Our findings show that after an extreme loss, an asset realizes, on average, a daily return of 0.8459% on the first day, and 1.8099% cumulatively in the following 5-day window. We attribute the fast recovery to the investors’ overreaction. This suggests an extreme loss reversal trading strategy. Our confirmation suggests that behavioral bias may not be corrected or eliminated through arbitrage.

Motor-manual tree felling in one of the most important technical alternatives in timber harvesting. Commonly, it requires a sequence of cuts and may cause higher volume losses compared to mechanized tree felling. The wood lost depends also on the tree size, but accurate quantifications and their dependencies are difficult to establish since there is a limited ability to manually measure key dimensions and assimilate the tree bottom to parametric geometric features. Short-range LiDAR technology integrated in affordable mobile platforms has already been proved to produce reliable estimates on objects located in a limited space, and point cloud processing algorithms have been developed to compare two instances of the same object, potentially enabling the quantification of tree-level wood loss. However, volume loss estimates based on LiDAR scanning of tree bottoms are very sensitive to the accuracy of scans, while low-cost platforms may lack the capability to produce point clouds of an acceptable density at a reasonable distance. This study was setup to check to what extent proximal scanning by low-cost LiDAR platforms can provide accurate data to support the extraction and computation of volume loss by motor-manual tree felling. Eleven Norway spruce logs having a length of one meter and mid-diameters between 22 and 43 cm were used to make 63 notches by a chainsaw. The main dimensions of each notch were then measured manually to the nearest millimeter by a tape and used as reference data. These were the hinge width, depth of the bottom cut, depth of the top (inclined) cut and the notch height. Close-range (up to 50 cm) scans were taken on each notch by an iPhone 13 Pro Max platform using the freely available software 3D Scanner App. The resulted point clouds were imported to Cloud Compare software, where the same measurements were taken digitally and used as data for comparison. By the commonly used error metrics such as the bias (−0.73–0.10), mean absolute error (0.51–0.78) and root mean squared error (0.68–0.92), the differences between the two were in the sub-centimeter domain. Taken individually, all the measurements agreed well in a ± 2 cm range, with an obvious dominance in much lower ranges and no evident trends in variance related to the measurement size. These results are promising for the forest operations science and practice because they provide evidence on the fact that by low-cost close-range LiDAR scanning and point cloud processing one can get accurate estimations notch volume losses. In turn, this will provide the basis for leveraging the losses by considering the operational conditions, the used procedures and experience of the workers while supporting the attempts of quantifying and relating the losses to the mentioned factors.

This article investigates whether and how media texts that explicitly support migrants and their settlement in Greece may echo racist assumptions. Our main claim is that the texts examined here overrepresent a “tolerable” and “familiar Other”, in contrast to some “vague” and “threatening Others”, who are largely minimized (i.e. deprived of agency, face and name). They remain at the margins of visibility and are not tolerated, while their foreclosure and loss emerge as normal. The racist underpinnings of this process are deconstructed on the basis of two theoretical axes: (a) that discourses of tolerance may be permeated by a liquid fear of the Other and fail to recognize migrants beyond the racist stereotype of the “Other as a threat” and (b) that this convergence of tolerance and fear takes place implicitly and can be studied in terms of what is silenced in discoursal representation of tolerance. Our analysis will draw upon a conceptual framework for the study of the (non) representation of migrants, based on the notions of recognition and abjection, in combination with linguistic/semiotic tools proposed by van Leeuwen. To determine the optimum solution to a problem, optimizers are employed in a variety of subjects, including statistical analysis, mathematics, and computing. For the past few years, the Adaptive Moment Estimation, sometimes known as Adam, has been more popular for use as an optimizer in deep learning models. It is efficient and utilizes minimal memory. The algorithm "gradient descent with momentum" and "Root Mean Square Propagation (RMSP)" are intuitively combined in this method. To classify normal vs. AMD binary data on the optical coherence tomography (OCT) image dataset, the main objective of this work is to determine which optimizer yields the minimum loss and maximum accuracy throughout the training and testing phases of CNN, DNN, and VGG16 models. SGD, SGD with momentum, Agadrad, Adam, and RMS prop are the optimizers under investigation at different learning rates. Optimizing the learning rate and other hyperparameters enhances the deep learning model's accuracy and loss according to experiments. Thus, the results demonstrate that the Adam optimizer provides superior performance over all optimizers. This study aims to analyze the grief experiences of the bereaved individuals on the basis of the empowerment approach and to reveal the grief support/counseling needs of the bereaved individuals. In addition, it has been tried to reach the opinions of social workers about the situations of encountering/working with bereavement cases and the necessity of bereavement counseling. In this research, in which the qualitative method was used, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 bereaved people (9 males, 11 females) and 9 social workers working in different fields in order to achieve the determined goals. The research data were analyzed and interpreted with the Maxqda 20 package program. As a result of the analysis, the themes of empowering factors, debilitating factors and receiving grief support and grief counseling thought emerged. As a result of the interviews with the social workers, data on the grief counseling needs of the bereaved individuals were obtained, and these data were evaluated holistically, emphasizing the grief counseling task of the social work. As a profession that focuses on people, social work can strengthen the individual, making it easier for him to come to terms with his/her grief and grieve in a healthy way. In order for the profession to have such a mission in mourning, it must fulfill the task of empowering the grieving individual in adapting to the new life without the deceased and guiding/counseling him/her in this process. The article combines current grief research with maps of transactional analysis and shows possible topics in the counselling and support of bereaved people. Based on a case history, the author describes the course of grief counselling after a traumatic loss. Mechanised harvesting of sugarcane can significantly reduce harvesting costs and improve efficiency. However, there are currently issues with poor chopping performance and significant losses of sugarcane juice. This study aimed to investigate the chopping and damage mechanisms of sugarcane and improve the performance of the chopping system through kinematic and dynamic analysis and finite element simulation. Firstly, the factors affecting the chopping performance and causing sugarcane damage were studied by establishing the kinematics and dynamics models of the chopper. The types of sugarcane damage and sugarcane fragments were summarised. Then, a finite element model of the chopping system was built. An anisotropic and nonlinear material model for sugarcane was developed using Fortran. The transient process of chopping was analyzed by the explicit dynamic analysis method, and the chopping and damage mechanism of sugarcane was revealed. The results indicated that a smaller thickness and bevel angle of blade led to a shorter chopping time and a smoother chopping surface. The upper and lower blades of the chopper had unequal axial chopping depths, which was the primary cause of sugarcane damage. The rotational speed ratio of conveying roller to chopping roller and the blade thickness affected step degree of chopping surface. Finally, the chopping system was improved according to the theoretical and simulation analysis results. Experimental results showed that the damage rate decreased by 6.8%, 12.2%, and 12.6% respectively, and the loss rate decreased by 8.1%, 13.9%, and 21.8%, respectively, when the feed rate was 1, 2, and 3 kg s−1. This paper explores how looming planetary crises become present in the lived experiences of future female workers, and how such experiences condition performances of viable subjectivity. Drawing on interview data from a longitudinal study of young women's education and career aspirations, the paper zooms in on moments where concerns about planetary crises were felt in informants' everyday lives. We augment Judith Butler's writings on loss with Karen Barad's concept of "intra‐action" to theorize these moments as experiences of loss in which constitutive dependencies and entanglements—otherwise repressed and invisible—touch young women's lives. Against this theoretical backdrop, we trace how such experiences interrupt performances of neoliberal work subjectivity and thereby create a potential for alternative agencies grounded in an ethics of entanglement. The paper thus contributes new insights into young women's complex performances of viable work subjectivity, showing how more sustainable and collective ways of performing the self emerge. As such, we offer researchers and professionals working with and around young women a nuanced understanding of how young women contest and exceed notions of neoliberal individualism. This visual essay concerns the generative capacities of loss in the production and maintenance of community archives and archiving communities. In archival sites, the loss of space through the collection of items, as well as degradation and wear and tear, is a concern that traditional archival practice seeks to address, manage, and mitigate. However, through the discussion of two case studies—a participatory arts company in Stoke on Trent and zine archives and libraries in Manchester and Birmingham—loss can materialize as presence, through damp and clutter, evidence of community activity, and debate and discussion. Furthermore, the author argues that loss is generative of archives themselves by drawing from the ongoing work in the two sites, as well as the emergence of archival practice and debates specific to the communities themselves. Reflecting on the author's role in establishing, cataloging, and interpreting the personal papers of Zygmunt Bauman, this article ponders central questions related to working on and with the archives of public intellectuals. It addresses the role that intellectuals, and Bauman in particular, hold in contemporary "memory wars" and the role that diverse forms and practices of archives play therein. It considers the difficulties posed by and possibilities afforded by the existence of archives, as well as biographical and autobiographical writings, for the interpretation of theoretical work. For most aircraft engines, inflow distortion is inevitable. Inflow distortion is known to degrade the aerodynamic performance and stable operating limits of a compressor. Tandem rotor configuration is an arrangement that effectively controls the growth of the boundary layer over the suction surface of the blade. Therefore, a higher total pressure rise can be achieved through this unconventional design approach involving the splitting of the blade into forward and aft sections. It is expected that the effect of inlet flow distortion would be more severe for a tandem-rotor design due to the greater flow turning inherent in such designs. However, this aspect needs to be thoroughly examined. The present study discusses the effect of circumferential distortion on the tandem-rotor at different rotational speeds. Full-annulus RANS simulations using ANSYS CFX are used in the present study. The performance of the rotor at a particular flow coefficient and different rotational speeds is compared. The total pressure and efficiency are observed to drop at lower mass flow rates under the influence of circumferential distortion. The loss region in each blade passage is mainly associated with the blade wake, tip leakage vortex, secondary flow, and boundary layer. However, their contribution varies from passage to passage, particularly in the distorted sector. At the lower span, the wake width is found to be higher than that at a higher span. Due to the redistribution of the mass flow, the circumferential extent reduces at a higher span. In the undistorted sector, the strength of the tip leakage vortex is significantly higher at the design rotational speed than at lower speeds. The distortion near the tip region promotes an early vortex breakdown even at the design operating condition. This adversely affects the total pressure, efficiency, and stall margin. Under clean flow conditions, this phenomenon is only observed near the stall point. At the design operating condition, the breakdown of the forward rotor tip leakage vortex is detected in four blade passages. The axial velocity deficit and adverse pressure gradient play a significant role in the behaviour of tip leakage vortex at lower rotational speeds in the distorted sector. Screening current is recognized as one of the critical elements limiting the progression of superconducting magnets toward achieving higher magnetic fields. Currently, most non-insulated (NI) superconducting magnets consider the magnet as insulated when addressing the issue of screening current. However, the bypass current in the NI magnet can modify the actual history of magnetization, so the screening current in NI magnet will be different from that in the insulated magnet. This paper presents a novel method based on the homogenized T-A formulation (T is the current vector potential, and A is the magnetic vector potential), which enables real-time simulation of both the bypass current behavior and the implications of screening current in NI superconducting magnets, even when these magnets contain tens of thousands of turns. We have developed a 32 T NI hybrid superconducting magnet and validated the effectiveness of this method through experiments. Employing this efficacious method, we conducted a comprehensive calculation of screening current in NI magnets, comparing them with insulated magnets in terms of screening current-induced stress (SCIS), screening current-induced field (SCIF), and losses. The results indicate that in the NI insert coils, the sequential excitation of background coils and insert coils induces a reverse screening current, resulting in slightly lower SCIF and SCIS compared to those in the insulated magnets. The method and results can contribute to the enhancement of magnet design and provide valuable insights for the development of ultra-high fields (UHF) NI magnets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the historical development of psychoanalysis, the solitude of the patient in the session room has evolved over time in the direction that the mind cannot be considered separately from one’s story and external reality. While I was working on writing a discussion paper on Mustafa’s case, I was under the devastating effect of the earthquake disaster that occurred in my country. Family relations are essential for the bereaved in terms of healing and adjusting to life, especially after experiencing a traumatic death. Although 500 000 people die in drug-related deaths each year, few works focus on family interactions and the help needs of those bereaved by such losses. In this qualitative study, we interviewed 14 parents who had lost their child through a drug-related death. Through a reflexive thematic analysis, we generated three themes: (I) considerable needs in the family become our responsibility, capturing how parents try to mend the disrupted family system and provide adequate care for those who struggle after death, (II) conversations that are important for family connections are obstructed, encompassing how family members sometimes seem afraid of grief emotions and try to protect each other by not talking, and (III) as parents, we can strengthen family connections, encapsulating how parents create space to talk and listen to each other in the family and navigate relational challenges in maintaining relationships. The findings are discussed through the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement as well as family resilience theory. Based on the results, we propose that professional family-oriented help efforts for drug death-bereaved families in two main domains should be considered. The first includes those related to the family's need and ability to adapt roles and relationships to the new reality, and the second involves those connected to creating a space and environment for emotional sharing and joint meaning-making processes in the family. This article probes the ways in which returning to Palestine is imagined in Razan AlSalah’s two video works Your Father Was Born 100 Years Old, and So Was the Nakba (2018) and Canada Park (2020). In foregrounding the refusal of configurations substantiated by state concessions and normalisation treaties, the article treats loss as central to the manifold rehearsals of return. In AlSalah’s work, loss is understood not as becoming less, but rather as a proposition for becoming otherwise. Here, the practice of loss is explored through the glitch as both a conceptual framework espousing opacity and a pragmatic tool engaging pixel breaks. Rather than reducing the glitch to a mere erroneous aesthetic, the article underscores the active capacity in encountering a glitch or deliberately engendering it by exploring the tensions between colonial imageries reproduced in digital maps, and, in contrast, montage as AlSalah’s tool for intervention. Finally, the article serves as a theoretical experimentation with what I call “dialectical poethics,” which reads the filmic return through loss as an attempt to go against linearity, intelligibility, and finality, yet insists on a materialist grounding of the glitch as a method that is historically situated rather than always-already emancipatory [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soul Injury is defined as a wound that separates a person from their real self, caused by unmourned loss and hurt, unforgiven guilt and shame, and fear of helplessness or loss of control. Tools and interventions have been developed to guide people impacted by Soul Injury. This study assessed the effectiveness of 12 tools and interventions provided during a 4-day Soul Injury Leadership Institute. This 2-part investigation included an online survey of participants who had attended a 4-day Institute training and a post-Institute narrative inquiry conducted as virtual structured interviews. Ninety-one professionals completed the online survey, which inquired about the impact of specific Soul Injury tools and interventions on the respondents' personal and professional life. The Anchor Your Heart tool was the most frequently used tool and had the most enduring utilization across time and settings. Qualitative data collected in virtual interviews with 15 volunteers demonstrated the power of the Write/Tell Your Story technique in which storied narratives permit an individual to integrate powerful experiences such as traumatic events, serious illness, and even death, providing further validation that Soul Injury is an important human phenomenon. This paper explores George Eliot's The Lifted Veil (1859) as an early portrayal of traumatic neurosis, providing a fresh perspective to enhance the existing scholarly attention on trauma in Eliot's Daniel Deronda. To illustrate potential contemporary diagnoses for Latimer, I examine other prevalent mid-nineteenth-century models of mental pathology, including phrenology, mesmerism, and hemispheric brain disunity. Drawing on Pierre Janet's trauma theories from the late nineteenth century, I argue that Eliot presents an early portrayal of dissociative trauma through Latimer's psychological experiences. Latimer's visions, complex dream-like interactions, and involuntary consciousness splitting provide a framework for understanding dissociation in response to his emotionally traumatic loss of his mother. Eliot's exploration of dissociation anticipates Pierre Janet's theories, which underpin contemporary understandings of trauma, revealing a remarkable modernity in Eliot's approach. The article presents a novel artificial Intelligent based feature parameters extraction that utilizes Mixed descriptors for analyzing white blood cell images. The proposed approach involves integrating these matrices into an artificial intelligent and Mixed descriptor architecture called AI-MD. The performance of the AI-MD model is evaluated using four cross-validation methods and various evaluation metrics including loss and accuracy curves, F1-score, recall, and receiver operating characteristic curve. The study concludes with a comparison of the proposed method with other recognition approaches. In order to assess the effectiveness of our architecture, we utilized the four cross-validation method. Recognition accuracy was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC) metric for specific classes for all based on the original image matrices. The AUC values attained for these classes were as follows: 99.49%, 99.75%, 98.60%, and 99.72% respectively. Our method yielded highly favorable outcomes, with an impressive AUC value of 93.93%. Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by persistent, unwanted thoughts and repetitive actions. Such repetitive thoughts and/or behaviors may be reinforced either by reducing anxiety or by avoiding a potential threat or harm, and thus may be rewarding to the individual. The possible involvement of the reward system in the symptomatology of OCD is supported by studies showing altered reward processing in reward-related regions, such as the ventral striatum (VS) and the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), in adults with OCD. However, it is not clear whether this also applies to adolescents with OCD. Methods: Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, two sessions were conducted focusing on the anticipation and receipt of monetary reward (1) or loss (2), each contrasted to a verbal (control) condition. In each session, adolescents with OCD (n1=31/n2=26) were compared with typically developing (TD) controls (n1=33/ n2=31), all aged 10-19 years, during the anticipation and feedback phase of an adapted Monetary Incentive Delay task. Results: Data revealed a hyperactivation of the VS, but not the OFC, when anticipating both monetary reward and loss in the OCD compared to the TD group. Conclusions: These findings suggest that aberrant neural reward and loss processing in OCD is associated with greater motivation to gain or maintain a reward but not with the actual receipt. The greater degree of reward 'wanting' may contribute to adolescents with OCD repeating certain actions more and more frequently, which then become habits (i.e., OCD symptomatology). Aim: This study was conducted to determine the experiences of women who encountered loss in the prenatal period. Method: This study was a qualitative study conducted using the phenomenological method and was conducted according to the guidelines of the COREQ checklist. A total of 11 women who were experienced loss in the early prenatal period were interviewed. The data were analyzed using the content analysis. Results: Three main themes and eight sub-themes emerged. The themes were light of life (bubble of happiness, journey), dark farewell (silent scream inside, unfinished tale: motherhood, loneliness, family approach) and obscurity (uncertainty about the future, need for support). Women expressed that the loss process had negative effects on their mental health and that they needed help. Conclusion: Pregnancy illuminates women's lives, while prenatal loss involves intense and various negative emotions, and women need support in many ways. These results show that women who experienced loss in the prenatal period should be allowed to express their feelings, thoughts and experiences, and the risks in terms of mental health should be reduced by supporting them during the loss and mourning process. Face-to-face 'Pet Bereavement Counselling' (PBC) has been established in private practice to support bereaved animal companion owners, however, to date no research has been conducted on PBC. This study aimed to contribute to the existing knowledge base on animal companion loss and provide a preliminary research base on the potential salience of PBC. Six qualified and accredited PBC therapists were recruited and took part in semi-structured interviews. An inductive thematic analysis revealed participants' perspectives on the acknowledgement of animal companion loss societally and within counselling professions, the diverse ways animal companion loss can impact on bereaved owners, as well as the distinctive attributes and delivery of PBC. The findings have implications for how animal companion loss is conceptualised within counselling professions, teaching and research. Future research recommendations include exploring how bereaved owners experience PBC and how mental health professionals can build upon the support provided to bereaved owners. Losses during the COVID-19 pandemic presented people with a unique type of compounded grief. This study explores how individuals foster resilience in coping with COVID-19-related losses by investigating two research questions. Open-ended survey responses were coded using the Communication Theory of Resilience (CTR) framework, revealing how individuals enact certain resilience processes and how interactions contribute to resilience efforts. Findings demonstrate how interactions that supported resilience processes were generally perceived as helpful, while interactions that conflicted with resilience processes were considered harmful. Aim: To describe a synthesis of the experience related to the spirituality of those living a bereavement journey in primary qualitative studies. Design: A systematic review of qualitative studies. Data Source: A systematic review was carried out in March 2019 and was updated in January 2023. Searching was accomplished by an online database, such as CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, MedicLatina, LILACS, SciELO and Academic Search Complete. The search strategy did not consider a timeline as an eligibility criterion. The quality of the studies was assessed, and a thematic synthesis was performed in this review. Methods: A systematic review of qualitative studies was conducted according to Saini and Shlonsky's methodology. Reporting Method: PRISMA checklist. Results: The review included 33 articles. Most of the studies were phenomenological and focused on parents' and family experiences of bereavement. Seven significant categories emerged, which match unmet spiritual needs during the grieving process. Two major categories were identified regarding the role of spirituality in bereavement: Spirituality as a process and spirituality as an outcome. Conclusion: In clinical practice, attention to spirituality and providing spiritual care is critical to guarantee a holistic approach for those experiencing bereavement. Implications: The findings of our study could foster awareness that healthcare professionals should include the spiritual dimension in their clinical practice to provide holistic care to individuals, enhancing the healing process in bereavement. Loss of a loved one is a painful event that substantially elevates the risk for physical and mental illness and impaired daily function. Socially monogamous prairie voles are laboratory‐amenable rodents that form life‐long pair bonds and exhibit distress upon partner separation, mirroring phenotypes seen in humans. These attributes make voles an excellent model for studying the biology of loss. In this review, we highlight parallels between humans and prairie voles, focusing on reward system engagement during pair bonding and loss. As yearning is a unique feature that differentiates loss from other negative mental states, we posit a model in which the homeostatic reward mechanisms that help to maintain bonds are disrupted upon loss, resulting in yearning and other negative impacts. Finally, we synthesize studies in humans and voles that delineate the remodeling of reward systems during loss adaptation. The stalling of these processes likely contributes to prolonged grief disorder, a diagnosis recently added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Psychiatry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay argues that, when considered together, Ní Dhuibhne's 2018 memoir, Twelve Thousand Days and her 2020 story collection Little Red and Other Stories offer a fascinating variation on the differing expectations around genre. They also demonstrate her unique and rewarding ability to work against such expectations to good effect. Memoir is often considered confessional and therefore there is an (unspoken) convention that the writer is somehow bound to adhere to guiding principles of truthfulness and veracity. A memoir can never stray into the realms of the imagined, or so it is assumed – but in reality, it often does. Fiction, on the other hand, holds no such limitations for the writer.
