108. Approval of a comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation program for patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia

Abstract

The aim of the work is to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive program of psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia. Materials and methods. The study involved 168 patients with negative symptoms of schizophrenia: 94 patients who underwent a comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation program (main group) and 74 patients who underwent a course of therapy according to the traditional scheme (control group). The criteria that evaluated the effectiveness of a comprehensive program of psychosocial rehabilitation in patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia were: clinical dynamics of negative disorders, the degree of improvement/deterioration of compliance and social functioning, and the degree of restoration of basic life functions. Psychometric (Social Avoidance and Distress Scale (SADS), Personal and Social Functioning (PSP), Level of Compliance questionnaire, and the Severity of Negative Symptoms (SANS)) and statistical research methods were used to assess effectiveness. Results. The proposed scheme of a complex program of psychosocial rehabilitation is based on the principles of a complex, individually oriented and differentiated approach, and its targets are defined as clinical manifestations of negative symptoms in schizophrenia, impaired social adaptation, communication skills, decreased motivational sphere, compliance and impaired social functioning. Rehabilitation is implemented in four stages: diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitation and preventive. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme of psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia was proven, which consisted in a more pronounced reduction of clinical manifestations of abulia, anhedonia, inattention, reduction of distress and social avoidance, improvement of social functioning in the main spheres of life, and improvement of social and behavioral compliance. Conclusions. The developed comprehensive program of psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia has shown its effectiveness and can be used in psychocorrective measures aimed at treating patients with negative symptoms in schizophrenia.

Abstract

The bremsstrahlung of accelerated electrons passing through a converter is used to study multiparticle photo-nuclear reactions. The results of calculations, numerical modeling, design, and testing of a special magnetic cleaning system to obtain a "pure" beam of bremsstrahlung quanta when studying the cross-sections of such reactions at the LUE-40 linac are presented. The system is based on commercially available permanent magnets of rectangular cross-sections. The maximum on-axis field is 0.9 T, which provides sufficient separation of the electron beam and gamma rays at a distance of more than 90 mm from the magnet., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

The amount of data stored in data repositories increases every year. This makes it challenging to link records between different datasets across companies and even internally, while adhering to privacy regulations. Address or name changes, and even different spelling used for entity data, can prevent companies from using private deduplication or record-linking solutions such as private set intersection (PSI). To this end, we propose a new and efficient privacy-preserving record linkage (PPRL) protocol that combines PSI and local sensitive hash (LSH) functions, and runs in linear time. We explain the privacy guarantees that our protocol provides and demonstrate its practicality by executing the protocol over two datasets with $2^{20}$ records each, in $11-45$ minutes, depending on network settings.

Abstract

The total bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections <$\sigma$(E$_{{\gamma}max}$)> for the photonuclear reactions $^{nat}$Ni($\gamma$,xn)$^{57}$Ni and $^{nat}$Ni($\gamma$,xn)$^{56}$Ni have been measured in the range of end-point energies E$_{{\gamma}max}$ = 35...94 MeV. The experiments were performed with the beam from the NSC KIPT electron linear accelerator LUE-40 with the use of the activation and off-line $\gamma$-ray spectrometric technique. The calculation of the flux-average cross-sections <$\sigma$(E$_{{\gamma}max}$)>$_{th}$ was carried out using the partial cross-section values $\sigma$(E) computed with the TALYS1.95 code and bremsstrahlung $\gamma$-flux calculated by GEANT4.9.2. The experimental results are compared with theoretical calculations and data from the literature. Abstract

The mechanical non-linear response of dense Brownian suspensions of polymer gel particles is studied experimentally and by means of numerical simulations. It is shown that the response to the application of a constant shear rate depends on the previous history of the suspension. When the flow starts from a suspension at rest, it exhibits an elastic response followed by a stress overshoot and then a plastic flow regime. Conversely, after flow reversal, the stress overshoot does not occur, and the apparent elastic modulus is reduced while numerical simulations reveal that the anisotropy of the local microstructure is delayed relative to the macroscopic stress., Comment: Submitted

Abstract

The conversion of biomass to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) holds substantial promise as a renewable energy source. Notably, HMF can be transformed into 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF), a crucial reactant in biofuel production, but requires harsh operating conditions, H2, and precious metal catalysts. A recently reported Cannizzaro reaction of HMF to BHMF, characterized by its efficiency, mild conditions, and eco-friendliness, instead employed ionic liquids (ILs) to achieve high yields. In this study, combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanical (QM/MM) simulations in conjunction with Metropolis Monte Carlo statistical mechanics and free-energy perturbation theory utilized M06-2X/6-31+G(d), PDDG/PM3, and the OPLS-VSIL force field to uncover important solute–solvent interactions present in the HMF to BHMF reaction pathway. The Cannizzaro reaction was examined in water and in five ILs composed of the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium [BMIM] cation coupled to hexafluorophosphate, tetrafluoroborate, thiocyanate, chloride, and bromide. Energetic and structural analysis of the rate-determining hydride transfer between HMF and the hydride-donor anion HMFOH− attributed the enhanced reactivity to highly organized solvent interactions featuring (1) hydrogen bonding between the ring protons of [BMIM] and the negatively charged carbonyl oxygen atoms on the transition structure, (2) favorable electrostatic interactions between the IL anions and solute hydroxyl groups, and (3) beneficial π–π stacking interactions between [BMIM] and the two aromatic rings present in HMF and HMFOH−. Abstract

Ukraine has created a competitive market of educational services, the supply of which has made a tremendous surge in the last 10 years. Trends in the development of higher education indicate that the decline in the number of student leads to a reduction in the number of higher education institutions, yet there is still a need to maintain highly professional teaching staff. The analysis of statistics shows that this tendency is common for most of the Eastern European countries. One way to improve the situation in higher education is to explore non-traditional educational avenues such as lifelong learning. This article presents the results of marketing research of consumer needs in continuing education. It was concluded that the use of Internet marketing technologies, in particular the content marketing, provide the maximum advantages to deal with the needs consumers in educational services.

Abstract

The total bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle$ for the photonuclear reactions $^{181}\rm{Ta}(\gamma,\textit{x}n; \textit{x} \leq 8)^{181-\textit{x}}\rm{Ta}$ have been measured in the range of end-point energies $E_{\rm \gamma max}$ up to 95 MeV. The experiments were performed with the beam from the NSC KIPT electron linear accelerator LUE-40 with the use of the activation and off-line $\gamma$-ray spectrometric technique. The calculation of average cross-sections was carried out using the cross-section values computed with the TALYS1.95 code for different level density models $LD$ 1-6. A comparison between the experimental total cross-sections $\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle$ and the theoretical values has shown satisfactory agreement for the $^{181}\rm{Ta}(\gamma,\textit{x}n)$ reactions with the escape of 1-4, 6 and 7 neutrons. 127. Confronting double-detonation sub-Chandrasekhar models with the low-luminosity suppression of Type Ia supernovae

Abstract

Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are likely the thermonuclear explosions of carbon-oxygen (CO) white-dwarf (WD) stars, but their progenitor systems remain elusive. Recently, Sharon & Kushnir (2022) used The Zwicky Transient Facility Bright Transient Survey to construct a synthesized $^{56}$Ni mass, $M_\text{Ni56}$, distribution of SNe Ia. They found that the rate of low-luminosity ($M_\text{Ni56}\approx0.15\,M_{\odot}$) SNe Ia is lower by a factor of $\sim10$ than the more common $M_\text{Ni56}\approx0.7\,M_{\odot}$ events. We here show that in order for the double-detonation model (DDM, in which a propagating thermonuclear detonation wave, TNDW, within a thin helium shell surrounding a sub-Chandrasekhar mass CO core triggers a TNDW within the core) to explain this low-luminosity suppression, the probability of a low-mass ($\approx0.85\,M_{\odot}$) WD explosion should be $\sim100$-fold lower than that of a high-mass ($\approx1.05\,M_{\odot}$) WD. One possible explanation is that the ignition of low-mass CO cores is somehow suppressed. We use accurate one-dimensional numerical simulations to show that if a TNDW is able to propagate within the helium shell, then the ignition within the CO core is guaranteed (resolved here for the first time in a full-star simulation), even for $0.7\,M_{\odot}$ WDs, providing no natural explanation for the low-luminosity suppression. DDM could explain the low-luminosity suppression if the mass distribution of primary WDs in close binaries is dramatically different from the field distribution; if the Helium shell ignition probability is suppressed for low-mass WDs; or if multidimensional perturbations significantly change our results., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. 133. AT2018lqh and the nature of the emerging population of day-scale duration optical transients

Abstract

We report on the discovery of AT2018lqh (ZTF18abfzgpl) -- a rapidly-evolving extra-galactic transient in a star-forming host at 242 Mpc. The transient g-band light curve's duration above half-maximum light is about 2.1 days, where 0.4/1.7 days are spent on the rise/decay, respectively. The estimated bolometric light curve of this object peaked at about 7x10^42 erg/s -- roughly seven times brighter than AT2017gfo. We show that this event can be explained by an explosion with a fast (v~0.08 c) low-mass (~0.07 Msun) ejecta, composed mostly of radioactive elements. For example, ejecta dominated by Ni-56 with a time scale of t_0=1.6 days for the ejecta to become optically thin for gamma-rays fits the data well. Such a scenario requires burning at densities that are typically found in the envelopes of neutron stars or the cores of white dwarfs. A combination of circumstellar material (CSM) interaction power at early times and shock cooling at late times is consistent with the photometric observations, but the observed spectrum of the event may pose some challenges for this scenario. The observations are not consistent with a shock breakout from a stellar envelope, while a model involving a low-mass ejecta ramming into low-mass CSM cannot explain both the early- and late-time observations., Comment: 10 pages, ApJ in press

134. The ZTF-BTS Type Ia supernovae luminosity function is consistent with a single progenitor channel for the explosions

Abstract

We construct the Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) luminosity function (LF) using the Zwicky Transient Facility Bright Transient Survey (BTS) catalogue. While this magnitude-limited survey has an unprecedented number of objects, it suffers from large distance uncertainties and lacks an estimation of host extinction. We bypass these issues by calculating the intrinsic luminosities from the shape parameters of the light curve's $ g $ and $ r $ bands, with the luminosities calibrated from the well observed SNe Ia sample of the Carnegie Supernova Project, allowing us to construct, for the first time, the intrinsic LF of SNe Ia. We then use a novel tight relation between the color stretch and the synthesized $^{56}$Ni mass, $M_\mathrm{Ni56}$, to determine the $M_\mathrm{Ni56}$ distribution of SNe Ia. We find that the LFs are unimodal, with their peaks in line with previous results, but have a much lower rate of dim events and luminous events. We show that the features on top of the unimodal LF-derived distributions are all compatible with statistical noise, consistent with a single progenitor channel for the explosions. We further derive, for the first time, the SNe Ia distribution of host galaxy extinction, and find a mean selective extinction of $E(B-V)\approx0.1$ and a non-negligible fraction with large, $ >1\,\text{mag} $, extinction in the optical bands. Abstract

The photoneutron reaction $^{181}\rm{Ta}(\gamma,3n)^{178m,g}\rm{Ta}$ was investigated with the beam from the NSC KIPT electron linear accelerator LUE-40. The measurements were performed using the residual $\gamma$-activity method. The bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle$, $\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle_{\rm{m}}$, $\langle{\sigma(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})}\rangle_{\rm{g}}$ and the isomeric ratio of the reaction products $d(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})$ have been measured. Theoretical values of averaged cross-sections and isomeric ratio were calculated using partial cross-sections from the TALYS1.95 code for different level density models $LD$ 1-6. The obtained experimental $d(E_{\rm{\gamma max}})$ agree with the literature data, but differ from the theoretical values in absolute magnitude and the behavior of the energy dependence. 143. Walking in her shoes: Pretending to be a woman role model increases young girls’ persistence in science

Abstract

Pretend play is a ubiquitous learning tool in early childhood, enabling children to explore possibilities outside of their current reality. Here we demonstrate how pretend play can be leveraged to empower girls in scientific domains. Four- to seven-year-old children (N = 240) played a challenging science activity in one of three conditions. Children in the Exposure condition heard about a successful gender-matched scientist; children in the Roleplay condition pretended to be that scientist; children in the Baseline condition did not receive information about the scientist. Girls in the Roleplay condition, but not in the Exposure condition, persisted longer in the science activity than girls in the Baseline condition. Furthermore, pretending to be the scientist equated girls’ persistence to that of boys. These findings suggest that pretend play of role models is an effective strategy to motivate young girls in science and may help reduce gender gaps from their roots.

Experiments to determine the yields and bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections <${\sigma}(E_{{\gamma}max})$> of photonuclear reactions on the natural Mo targets were performed on the beam from the NSC KIPT electron linear accelerator LUE-40 with the use of the ${\gamma}$-activation technique. The bremsstrahlung end-point energies were in the range $E_{{\gamma}max}$ = 35...80 MeV. The bremsstrahlung quantum flux was calculated with the program GEANT4.9.2 and, in addition, was monitored using the $^{100}$Mo$({\gamma},n)^{99}$Mo reaction. Calculations of the yields and average cross-sections <${\sigma}(E_{{\gamma}max})$> for photonuclear reactions on stable Mo isotopes were computed using the ${\sigma}(E)$ cross-sections from the TALYS1.95 code (for the level density model LD1). 147. Photoneutron reactions on $^{\text{93}}$Nb at $E_{\gamma \text{max}}$=33-93 MeV

Abstract

The bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross sections for the photoneutron reactions $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,xn;x=1-5)$^{\text{(93-x)m,g}}$Nb were measured in the range of boundary energies of bremsstrahlung $\gamma $-quanta $E_{\gamma \text{max}}$=33-93 MeV with a step $\Delta E_{\gamma \text{max}}\approx $ 2 MeV. The isomeric ratios of the average cross-sections of the products of the reactions $^{\text{93}}$Nb ($\gamma $ ,4n)$^{\text{89m,g}}$Nb and $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,5n)$^{\text{88m,g}}$ Nb were determined in the energy ranges $E_{\gamma \text{max}}$ = 50-93 and 70-93 MeV, respectively. The experiments were carried out on the beam of the linear electron accelerator LU-40 of the Science and Research Establishment (SRE) "Accelerator" at National Science Center Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology (NSC KIPT) using the method of induced activity. Calculations of the cross sections, average cross sections, and isomeric ratios of the reaction products were performed using the TALYS 1.9 code with default parameters and the GEANT4 code. The tendency of a more successful description of the average cross sections of photoneutron reactions with the formation of final odd-even Nb nuclei than odd-odd Nb nuclei is revealed. The experimental average cross sections for the reactions ($\gamma $,2n) and ($\gamma $,4n) are in good agreement with theory, while in the case of reactions ($\gamma $,n), ($\gamma $,3n), and ($ \gamma $,5n), some discrepancies are observed. The results obtained for the reactions ($\gamma $,n), ($\gamma $,3n) and ($\gamma $,4n) are in satisfactory agreement with the known literature data. The average cross sections for the reactions ($\gamma $,2n) and ($\gamma $,5n) and the isomeric ratios of the reaction products $^{\text{93}}$Nb($\gamma $,5n)$^{\text{88m,g}}$Nb were measured for the first time.
