A polymer-based uniaxial accelerometer with piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride copolymer (P(VDF-TrFE)) transducers and micro injection molded polypropylene (PP) structures has been designed, manufactured and characterized. The mass-loaded cantilever structure shows a quasi-static charge sensitivity of 0.69 pC/g and a resonance frequency of 735 Hz. Because of its efficient processing and its small dimensions the polymer-based sensor (polySENS) can be integrated into polymer-based compound structures in order to measure low-frequency vibrations. The focus of this contribution is on the design, processing as well as on the characterization of the polySENS accelerometer to determine the sensor properties of the accelerometer due to manufacturing particularities. Additionally, investigations regarding the applied materials and the manufacturing, in particular the mold filling have been done to qualify the novel technological approach.

Tail injuries commonly occur in feedlot cattle that are housed in barns with slatted floors, facilities that are commonly found in the Great Lakes Region. These injuries put cattle at risk of developing secondary complications such as tail infections, ascending myelitis, and paresis. The practice of docking the tails of cattle upon entry into these feedlot facilities was initiated to prevent tail injuries. According to a recent survey, approximately two-thirds of Michigan feedlots dock the tails of cattle at entry. Tail docking raises potential welfare concerns because it is painful and removes an important method of fly avoidance. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2002-01-01 A laboratory study evaluated the influence of a dentin desensitizer (D/Sense 2) on the microtensile bond strength of two adhesive systems: a self-etching primer (Bistite II SC) and a one-bottle adhesive (Prime & Bond 2.1). Sixteen crown dentin discs were obtained from extracted sound human third molars. Dentin surfaces were ground with 600 grit silicon carbide (SiC) abrasive papers to produce a standardized smear layer. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n=4). G1-D/Sense 2 + Prime & Bond 2.1; G2-D/Sense 2 + Bistite II SC; G3- and G4-dentin surfaces were bonded with Prime & Bond 2.1 and Bistite II SC, respectively, with no previous treatment with D/Sense 2. Eight mm high resin composite crowns (TPH Spectrum) were incrementally built-up on the treated surfaces. One sample from each group was prepared for evaluation of the hybrid layer on SEM. The specimens for the microtensile test were serially sectioned perpendicular to the adhesive layer to obtain 1 mm2 bounded sticks. No entanto, o ajuste sem considerar a autocorrelação explicou a mais até 25% da variação total do que o modelo de erros autocorrelacionados. Neste trabalho, o modelo de Gompertz com erros auto-regressivos é retomado com acréscimo do efeito de estação do ano. A sugestão dessa inclusão foi baseada na função de autocorrelação da série original, depois de descontada a tendência. Para estimação dos seis parâmetros, no processo iterativo foi utilizada uma matriz = [ | ], onde é a mesma matriz do método de Stevens para ajuste de Gompertz, e , a matriz de 0s, 1s e -1s, para sazonalidade. Como resultado, houve elevação do coeficiente de determinação em relação ao maior valor obtido no trabalho acima citado. In recent work (Kroll, 1990) on dairy cattle growth using its monthly weights, a Gompertz function, first considering the autocorrelated error structure, and second, the independent error structure, was fitted. The last explained 25% more of the total variance than the former. In this work, a Gompertz function was fitted with autocorrelated error structure adding seasonality to the model. This was suggested taking into account the time series autocorrelation function. In order to estimate the six parameters, an iterative procedure was used, employing a matrix X = [G\S], where G is the usual matrix for fitting the Gompertz function, and S is a 0s, 1s, -1s matrix necessary to take into account seasonality. With this model, the adjustment was better in terms of the coefficient determination.
