- Abstract
We report the first measurement of the neutrino-oxygen neutral-current quasielastic (NCQE) cross section. It is obtained by observing nuclear deexcitation γ rays which follow neutrino-oxygen interactions at the Super-Kamiokande water Cherenkov detector. We use T2K data corresponding to 3.01 × 10²⁰ protons on target. By selecting only events during the T2K beam window and with well-reconstructed vertices in the fiducial volume, the large background rate from natural radioactivity is dramatically reduced. We observe 43 events in the 4–30 MeV reconstructed energy window, compared with an expectation of 51.0, which includes an estimated 16.2 background events. The background is primarily nonquasielastic neutral-current interactions and has only 1.2 events from natural radioactivity. The flux-averaged NCQE cross section we measure is 1.55 × 10⁻³⁸ cm² with a 68% confidence interval of (1.22, 2.20) × 10⁻³⁸ cm² at a median neutrino energy of 630 MeV, compared with the theoretical prediction of 2.01 × 10⁻³⁸ cm².

- Abstract
© 2015 The Institution of Chemical Engineers. Surface tension of fluids is an important factor controlling multiphase systems and is often manipulated by surfactants during industrial processes. Previously, we have found that water surface tension was reduced under continuous microwave irradiation. The reduction was not explainable by thermal effects. The new insights can lead to important application of microwaves in multiple-phase systems. In this study, effect of various microwave irradiation modes on surface tension of water was investigated. The surface tension reduction was confirmed for pulsed microwave irradiation. The reduction varied with the applied power as well as interval between irradiations. The droplet oscillation and internal convection were also investigated during and after microwave irradiation to clarify the mechanism. It was found that the convection within the water droplet was proportional to the microwave power. In contrast, the frequency of oscillation was independent on the microwave power. These results on surface tension, oscillation and convection will provide important insights for designing microwave applications.

The T2K Collaboration reports a precision measurement of muon neutrino disappearance with an off-axis neutrino beam with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV. Near detector measurements are used to constrain the neutrino flux and cross section parameters. The Super-Kamiokande far detector, which is 295 km downstream of the neutrino production target, collected data corresponding to 3.01 x 10(20) protons on target. In the absence of neutrino oscillations, 205 +/- 17 (syst) events are expected to be detected while only 58 muon neutrino event candidates are observed. A fit to the neutrino rate and energy spectrum, assuming three neutrino flavors and normal mass hierarchy yields a best-fit mixing angle sin(2) (theta(23)) = 0.514 +/- 0.082 and mass splitting vertical bar Delta m(32)(2)vertical bar = 2.44(-0.15)(+0.17) x 10(-3) eV(2)/c(4). Our result corresponds to the maximal oscillation disappearance probability., We thank the J-PARC for the superb accelerator performance and the CERN NA61 Collaboration for providing valuable particle production data. The Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) experiment studies neutrino oscillations using an off-axis muon neutrino beam with a peak energy of about 0.6 GeV that originates at the J-PARC accelerator facility. Interactions of the neutrinos are observed at near detectors placed at 280 m from the production target and at the far detector -- Super-Kamiokande (SK) -- located 295 km away. The flux prediction is an essential part of the successful prediction of neutrino interaction rates at the T2K detectors and is an important input to T2K neutrino oscillation and cross section measurements. A FLUKA and GEANT3 based simulation models the physical processes involved in the neutrino production, from the interaction of primary beam protons in the T2K target, to the decay of hadrons and muons that produce neutrinos. The simulation uses proton beam monitor measurements as inputs. The modeling of hadronic interactions is re-weighted using thin target hadron production data, including recent charged pion and kaon measurements from the NA61/SHINE experiment. For the first T2K analyses the uncertainties on the flux prediction are evaluated to be below 15% near the flux peak. The uncertainty on the ratio of the flux predictions at the far and near detectors is less than 2% near the flux peak., Comment: 36 pages

The Charged-Current Quasi-Elastic (CCQE) interaction, $\nu_{l} + n \rightarrow l^{-} + p$, is the dominant CC process at $E_\nu \sim 1$ GeV and contributes to the signal in accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments operating at intermediate neutrino energies. This paper reports a measurement by the T2K experiment of the $\nu_{\mu}$ CCQE cross section on a carbon target with the off-axis detector based on the observed distribution of muon momentum ($p_\mu$) and angle with respect to the incident neutrino beam ($\theta_\mu$). The flux-integrated CCQE cross section was measured to be $(0.83 \pm 0.12) \times 10^{-38}\textrm{ cm}^{2}$ in good agreement with NEUT MC value of ${0.88 \times 10^{-38}} \textrm{ cm}^{2}$. The energy dependence of the CCQE cross section is also reported. The axial mass, $M_A^{QE}$, of the dipole axial form factor was extracted assuming the Smith-Moniz CCQE model with a relativistic Fermi gas nuclear model. Using the absolute (shape-only) $p_{\mu}cos\theta_\mu$ distribution, the effective $M_A^{QE}$ parameter was measured to be ${1.26^{+0.21}_{-0.18} \textrm{ GeV}/c^{2}}$ (${1.43^{+0.28}_{-0.22} \textrm{ GeV}/c^{2}}$).

- Abstract
Surface tension of fluid is crucial for multiphase systems and is often manipulated during industrial processes by introducing surfactants. In this study, effect of microwave radiation on surface tension of ethylene glycol was investigated for new physical method to manipulate the surface tension without using chemicals. It has found that surface tension profiles of ethylene glycol during microwave are different with water. Moreover, convections in the water and ethylene glycol droplet during and after microwave radiation were compared to provide new understanding on the non-thermal effect of microwave.

- Abstract
Surface tension of fluids is crucial for multiphase systems and is often controlled during industrial processes by introducing surfactants. In this study, effect of various microwave radiation modes on surface tension of water was investigated as an alternative physical method to manipulate the surface tension without using chemicals. It is found that surface tension decreased quickly whiletemperature increased during microwave. Once the radiation was turned off, the temperature returned rapidly as expected. However, surface tension did not recover so much. The minimum surface tension after microwave radiation depended on the power. Moreover, a second radiation can have additional reduction on surface tension.

- Abstract
In this study, microwave irradiation was applied to hanging droplets of both water and ethylene glycol. Once the irradiation had ceased and the droplet was allowed to return to its original temperature, it was found that the surface tension of ethylene glycol returned to its original value. In contrast, the water surface tension remained well below its original value for an extended period of time. Similar observations have been reported for magnetically treated water, but this is the first time that such a lasting effect has been reported for microwave irradiation. The effect can be attributed to the unique hydrogen bonds of interfacial water molecules. While the irradiation intensities used in this study are well above those in household devices, there is certainly the potential to apply the methodology to industrial applications where the manipulation of surface tension is required without the use of chemical addition.

- Abstract
In this study, microwave irradiation is applied to a liquid droplet and the surface tension, the circulation flow and temperature of water droplet are measured dynamically under the irradiation. The droplet was allowed to return to its original temperature after the irradiation, it was found that water surface tension remained well below its original value for an extended period of time. Surface tension reduction shown similar effect of "impurity" at molecular level during the microwave, and some "memory" after microwave, which might be caused by nano-bubble. On the other hand, microwave can introduce the circulation flow of higher rotation speed and will be expected to be applied for non-contact stirring method.

Presently, in Japanese politics, the majority of people opt to vote for conservative parties, with anti-conservatives and old liberals losing power and representation in the government. This study explores the emerging middle-class who may potentially lead to an alternative liberal politics in Japan. Using responses to an Internet survey conducted in 2018 as our data, we articulate features of a new liberal class by constructing a theory of class articulation and combining that theory with latent class analysis to compare the new liberals to old liberals and conservatives. This is the first attempt to apply latent class analysis to figure out differences in political orientations among possible social classes. We analyze some personality traits of the new liberals using our original 18 personality categories. We also analyze their social attitudes by comparing their questionnaire responses to those of old liberals. Although our analysis shows that new liberals are not experiencing upward social mobility, their personalities as defined by our study constitute a new political class, that is particularly sensitive to the environmental issues, and prefer the nature and minimal consumption. We discovered that these new liberals are in their sixties, graduates of university or graduate school, professionals, and low-income people. We have also discovered that although these new liberals are a coherent political class, they have no representations in our political party system. However, further research based on mail survey especially for elderly people should be conducted in order to conceive more precise features of new liberals

Rat chromosome 20 is one of special interest because it contains some diabetogenic genes, such as a major histocompatibilitiy complex (MHC)-linked genetic components and quantitative trait loci. We studied rat chromosome 20, using the backcross progeny between BB/Wor and PVG.R23 rats, and confirmed the genetic linkage map by use of another backcross panel.Backcross panels were done between BB/Wor and PVG.R23 rats, and BN and KZC rats. Length variations of simple sequence length polymorphism markers were analyzed by use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. Alleles of RT1-Bb and RT1-Db were analyzed by use of the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Genetic maps of rat chromosome 20 were constructed, using the Map Manager computer program.Fifty-two loci were mapped on rat chromosome 20. Genetic length was 57.9 cM, with average spanning of 1.11 cM between markers. The positions of RT1-N1, Tnf, and RT1-Bb into the MHC region were separated and confirmed by results of two backcross panels in our linkage studies.The genetic linkage map of rat chromosome 20 was improved, and was a useful tool for genetic analysis of a diabetogenic gene(s) and for producing MHC congenic strains.

ACL ,6 - Ciencias aplicadas::61 - Medicina::611 - Anatomía [CDU] ,Fibronectin - Abstract
The healing process of the rat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) after partial transection was examined. In sham operated samples, the synovial tissue near the infrapatellar fat pad includes an abundance of young fibroblasts which can be classified into two types: A type cells often exist along the surface of the synovial tissue and contain numerous lysosomes, while B type cells are often associated with small vessels and are actively involved in the production of fibronectin and laminin. At 1 week after transection of the ACL, B type cells frequently undergo mitotic proliferations and are eventually incorporated into the endothelium of the growing capillaries extending from the proximal remnants of the synovial tissue to the transected lesion. The transformation of B to A type cells is indicated by our electron micrographs. After 2 weeks, the replacement of the transected lesion by regenerated soft tissue becomes pronounced. After 4 weeks, B type cells in the deeper layer of the regenerated tissue are first involved in the production of type 111 and then in that of type 1 collagens as revealed by the immunocytochemistry. The present study indicates that B type cells are a kind of stem cell: they possess the ability to transform to vasoformative cells involved in a manner suggestive of vasculogenesis, to phagocytic A type cells and to the synthetic fibroblasts in the regeneration of the ACL.

A pedigree with maternally transmitted diabetes mellitus, deafness, and cardiomyopathy is described. A A--G mutation at nucleotide pair 3243 in mitochondrial gene was detected by Apa I digestion of PCR amplified genomic DNA from 3 brothers and their mother. The proband, suffering from CHF, showed unique fine granular pattern of hyperechogenic cardiomyopathy as his brother and their mother did. Although he is recently treated with insulin, he was initially NIDDM treated by sulfonylurea. His urinary CPR excretion decreased gradually to as low as less than 10 micrograms/day in these 3 years. The insulin response to oral glucose was decreased in all other family members with the mutation. It is suggested that the defective insulin secretion exists in this family with the mutation and the progressive decrease in insulin secretion might resulted in IDDM in the proband.
