131. PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION OF ALLERGENS IN WATER WITH TITANIUM DIOXIDE.

Abstract

The reduction of mite allergen activities by photocatalytic treatment with titanium dioxide (TiO2) was investigated for a cleaner indoor environment. Degussa P25 TiO2 and recombinant Derf-1 protein were used as photocatalyst and mite allergen, respectively. Increasing amounts of photocatalyst gradually increased the rate of reduction of allergen activities. At the irradiation time of 60 mm, the reduction rate of allergen activities was more than 96.9%, when more than 1 mg photocatalyst TiO2 was used. As a consequence, the photocatalytic treatment with TiO2 was very effective for the reduction of allergen activities. Since aspartic acid and glycine concentrations increased during the initial degradation, the destruction of amino acids may become a main reason for the reduction of allergen activities by low-cost photocatalytic treatment, which is simple and easy to handle. 132. Ti3+-Free Multicomponent Titanophosphate Glasses as Ecologically Sustainable Optical Glasses.

Abstract

Ti3+-free multicomponent titanophosphate glasses were developed as ecologically sustainable optical glasses. Especially, recent advances in the glasses as molding glass, athermal glass, nonlinear optical glass, and self-cleaning glass were presented. The Ti3+-free binary TiO2–P2O5 glasses containing TiO2 up to 74 mol% were prepared by melt quenching and long-term post-annealing around the glass transition temperature in the air, and possessed high transparency, high index, high dispersion, and low density. Li2O–ZnO–TiO2–P2O5 glasses have the lowest Tg (=560°C) among titanophosphate glasses, with high index ( nd=1.8), and high dispersion (νd=22) being retained, while ZnO–TiO2–P2O5 glasses have the highest refractive index ( nd=1.9) among glasses with Tg lower than 600°C. Thus, ZnO–TiO2–P2O5 and Li2O–ZnO–TiO2–P2O5 glasses can be expected as high-index molding glasses. A very small temperature coefficient of refractive index, d n/d T, or very small temperature coefficient of optical path length, d S/d T, was obtained for K2O–TiO2–P2O5 glasses, meaning that they are considered as high-index athermal glasses and athermal NLO glasses. Ag2O–TiO2–P2O5 glasses showed photocatalytic activity and photo-induced hydrophilicity comparable with commercially available TiO2-coated self-cleaning glasses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

148. Preparation of gold microcrystal-doped TiO2, ZrO2 and Al2O3 films through sol-gel process.

Abstract

Au-microcrystal-dopel TiO2, ZrO2 and Al2O3 films were made by sol-gel dip-coating method using titanium, zirconium and aluminum alkoxides with HAuCl4·4H2O. The influence of the oxide matrix composition on the maximum amount of the Au microcrystals that can be incorporated in the oxide film was examined. Some amount of Au microcrystals were exhausted to the surface of Au microcrystal-doped oxide films when an excess amount of HAuCl4·4H2O was dissolved in the coating solution. The maximum amount of Au that can be incorporated in the oxide film was found to increase with the increase of the pH point at zero charge (PZC) of the matrix oxide. This should be due to the fact that AuCl ions are charged negative and also Au microcrystals tend to charge negative, so that the oxide gel with high PZC, which has a tendency to charge positive, may fix the ions and/or microcrystals to its interior. Abstract

SiO2 ガラスを作ることを目的としてシリコンテトラエトキシド Si(OC2H5)4 を加水分解する過程で生成するシロキサンポリマーの形態を調べた. 反応途上にある重合体をトリメチルシリル化によって安定なものとして単離し, その数平均分子量 Mn と極限粘度 [η] を測定した. Mn と [η] の関係, [η] = KMna から指数 a を定めシロキサンポリマーの形態を考察した. Si(OC2H5)4 に対し, 加える水のモル比 r が 1.0 及び 2.0 の溶液については aは 0.75 及び 0.64 で、溶液中の重合体が線状であると考えられた. r = 20.0 の溶液では a = 0.34 であり, この溶液では3次元的あるいは球状に成長した重合物が生成していると判断できた. r = 5.0 の溶液では反応初期には a = 0.55 で, 線状重合体が生じるが, その後 a は 0.23 となることからそれが成長して3次元的になることが分った. これらの結果は以前に報告した実験事実からの予測, すなわち少ない量の水で Si(OC2H5)4 を加水分解すると, えい糸性が見られることから線状重合物が生成していること, また多量の水で加水分解すると, えい糸性を示すことなく寒天状ゲルになることから3次元的又は球状重合物が生成していると考えたこととよく一致した., The type or shape of the polymers produced in the course of hydrolysis of silicontetraethoxide Si(OC2H5)4 has been investigated. Four solutions in the Si(OC2H5)4-H2O-C2H5OH-HCl system were prepared. In those solutions the molar rations of water to Si(OC2H5)4, r, were 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 and 20.0, respectively, while the ratio of HCl to the alkoxide was kept constant at 0.01. The polymerized products or siloxane polymers were trimethylsilylated and subjected to the measurements of number-average molecular weight Mn and intrinsic viscosity [η]. Based on the relation between Mn and [η], namely, [η] = KMna where K and a are constants, type of the siloxane polymer was discussed. The exponent a’s for solutions with r’s of 1.0 and 2.0 were 0.75 and 0.64, respectively, showing that linear polymers are produced in those solutions. The exponent a for the solution with r of 20.0 was 0.34, corresponding to the three-dimensional or spherical polymer. Intermediate value of a was obtained for the solution with r of 5.0. These results corresponded with the authors’ previous assumption that the occurrence of spinnability in a Si(OC2H5)4 solution containing a small amount of water is closely related to the formation of linear polymers in the course of hydrolysis.
