Abstract

The theory of welded and extended welded knots is a generalization of classical knot theory. Welded (resp. extended welded) knot diagrams include virtual crossings (resp. virtual crossings and wen marks) and are equivalent under an extended set of Reidemeister-type moves. We present a new class of invariants for welded and extended welded knots and links using a multi-skein relation, following Z. Yang's approach for virtual knots. Using this skein-theoretic approach, we find sufficient conditions on the coefficients to obtain invariance under the extended Reidemeister moves appropriate to welded and extended welded links.

Abstract

We present the construction and performance of an ultra-low temperature scanning tunneling microscope (STM), working in ultra-high vacuum conditions (UHV) and in high magnetic fields up to 9 T. The cryogenic environment of the STM is generated by a single shot $^3$He magnet cryostat in combination with a $^4$He dewar system. At base temperature (300~mK), the cryostat has an operation time of approximately 80 hours. The special design of the microscope allows the transfer of the STM head from the cryostat to a UHV-chamber system, where samples and STM-tips can be easily exchanged. The UHV chambers are equipped with specific surface science treatment tools for the functionalization of samples and tips, including high-temperature treatments and thin film deposition. This, particularly, enables spin-resolved tunneling measurements. We present test measurements using well known samples and tips based on superconductor and metallic materials such as LiFeAs, Nb, Fe and W, respectively. The measurements demonstrate the outstanding performance of the STM with high spatial and energy resolution as well as the spin-resolved capability., Comment: 12 pages, 16 figures

Abstract

Rapid popularity of Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing permits neuroscientists to collect multilevel and multichannel brain data to better understand brain functions, diagnose diseases, and devise treatments. To ensure secure and reliable data communication between end-to-end (E2E) devices supported by current IoT and cloud infrastructure, trust management is needed at the IoT and user ends. This paper introduces a Neuro-Fuzzy based Brain-inspired trust management model (TMM) to secure IoT devices and relay nodes, and to ensure data reliability. The proposed TMM utilizes node behavioral trust and data trust estimated using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System and weighted-additive methods respectively to assess the nodes trustworthiness. In contrast to the existing fuzzy based TMMs, the NS2 simulation results confirm the robustness and accuracy of the proposed TMM in identifying malicious nodes in the communication network. Abstract

Current developments in nanotechnology make electromagnetic communication (EC) possible at the nanoscale for applications involving Wireless [Body] Sensor Networks (W[B]SNs). This specialized branch of WSN has emerged as an important research area contributing to medical treatment, social welfare, and sports. The concept is based on the interaction of integrated nanoscale machines by means of wireless communications. One key hurdle for advancing nanocommunications is the lack of an apposite networking protocol to address the upcoming needs of the nanonetworks. Recently, some key challenges have been identified, such as nanonodes with extreme energy constraints, limited computational capabilities, Terahertz frequency bands with limited transmission range, etc., in designing protocols for wireless nanosensor networks (WNN). This work proposes an improved performance scheme of nanocommunication over Terahertz bands for wireless BSNs making it suitable for smart e-health applications. The scheme contains -- a new energy-efficient forwarding routine for EC in WNN consisting of hybrid clusters with centralized scheduling, a model designed for channel behavior taking into account the aggregated impact of molecular absorption, spreading loss, and shadowing, and an energy model for energy harvesting and consumption. The outage probability is derived for both single and multilinks and extended to determine the outage capacity. The outage probability for a multilink is derived using a cooperative fusion technique at a predefined fusion node. Simulated using a Nano-Sim simulator, performance of the proposed model has been evaluated for energy efficiency, outage capacity, and outage probability. Abstract

Rapid advances of hardware-based technologies during the past decades have opened up new possibilities for Life scientists to gather multimodal data in various application domains (e.g., Omics, Bioimaging, Medical Imaging, and [Brain/Body]-Machine Interfaces), thus generating novel opportunities for development of dedicated data intensive machine learning techniques. Overall, recent research in Deep learning (DL), Reinforcement learning (RL), and their combination (Deep RL) promise to revolutionize Artificial Intelligence. Abstract

Background: Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) is a significant global health issue due to its high incidence, drug resistance, contagious nature, and impact on people with compromised immune systems. As mentioned by the World Health Organization (WHO), TB is responsible for more global fatalities than any other infectious illness. On the other side, WHO also claims that noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people yearly worldwide. In this regard, several studies suggest that PTB and NCDs are linked in various ways and that people with PTB are more likely to acquire NCDs. At the same time, NCDs can increase susceptibility to active TB infection. Furthermore, because of potential drug interactions and therapeutic challenges, treating individuals with both PTB and NCDs can be difficult. This study focuses on seven NCDs (lung cancer (LC), diabetes mellitus (DM), Parkinson's disease (PD), silicosis (SI), chronic kidney disease (CKD), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA)) and rigorously presents the genetic relationship with PTB regarding shared genes and outlines possible treatment plans. Objectives: BlueThis study aims to identify the drug components that can regulate abnormal gene expression in NCDs. The study will reveal hub genes, potential biomarkers, and drug components associated with hub genes through statistical measures. This will contribute to targeted therapeutic interventions. Methods: Numerous investigations, including protein-protein interaction (PPI), gene regulatory network (GRN), enrichment analysis, physical interaction, and protein-chemical interaction, have been carried out to demonstrate the genetic correlation between PTB and NCDs. During the study, nine shared genes such as TNF, IL10, NLRP3, IL18, IFNG, HMGB1, CXCL8, IL17A, and NFKB1 were discovered between TB and the above-mentioned NCDs, and five hub genes (NFKB1, TNF, CXCL8, NLRP3, and IL10) were selected based on degree values. Results and conclusion: In this study, we found that all of the hub genes are linked with the 10 drug components, and it was observed that aspirin CTD 00005447 was mostly associated with all the other hub genes. This bio-informatics study may help researchers better understand the cause of PTB and its relationship with NCDs, and eventually, this can lead to exploring effective treatment plans. Abstract

Effective resource allocation is crucial in operating systems to prevent deadlocks, especially when resources are limited and non-shareable. Traditional methods like the Banker's algorithm provide solutions but suffer from limitations such as static process handling, high time complexity, and a lack of real-time adaptability. To address these challenges, we propose the Dynamic Banker's Deadlock Avoidance Algorithm (DBDAA). The DBDAA introduces real-time processing for safety checks, significantly improving system efficiency and reducing the risk of deadlocks. Unlike conventional methods, the DBDAA dynamically includes processes in safety checks, considerably decreasing the number of comparisons required to determine safe states. This optimization reduces the time complexity to O(n) in the best-case and O(nd) in the average and worst-case scenarios, compared to the O(n2d) complexity of the original Banker's algorithm. The integration of real-time processing ensures that all processes can immediately engage in safety checks, improving system responsiveness and making the DBDAA suitable for dynamic and time-sensitive applications. Additionally, the DBDAA introduces a primary unsafe sequence mechanism that enhances the acceptability and efficiency of the algorithm by allowing processes to participate in safety checks repeatedly after a predetermined amount of system-defined time. Experimental comparisons with existing algorithms demonstrate the superiority of the DBDAA in terms of reduced safe state prediction time and increased efficiency, making it a robust solution for deadlock avoidance in real-time systems. Abstract

Eye diseases are defined as disorders or diseases that damage the tissue and related parts of the eyes. They appear in various types and can be either minor, meaning that they do not last long, or permanent blindness. Cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy are all eye illnesses that can cause vision loss if not discovered and treated early on. Automated classification of these diseases from fundus images can empower quicker diagnoses and interventions. Our research aims to create a robust model, BayeSVM500, for eye disease classification to enhance medical technology and improve patient outcomes. In this study, we develop models to classify images accurately. We start by preprocessing fundus images using contrast enhancement, normalization, and resizing. We then leverage several state-of-the-art deep convolutional neural network pre-trained models, including VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, EfficientNet, and DenseNet, to extract deep features. To reduce feature dimensionality, we employ techniques such as principal component analysis, feature agglomeration, correlation analysis, variance thresholding, and feature importance rankings. Using these refined features, we train various traditional machine learning models as well as ensemble methods. Our best model, named BayeSVM500, is a Support Vector Machine classifier trained on EfficientNet features reduced to 500 dimensions via PCA, achieving 93.65 ± 1.05% accuracy. Bayesian hyperparameter optimization further improved performance to 95.33 ± 0.60%. Through comprehensive feature engineering and model optimization, we demonstrate highly accurate eye disease classification from fundus images, comparable to or superior to previous benchmarks.
