- Abstract
This paper presents two spheres of public engagement of women in the contemporary society of Bosniaand Herzegovina (BiH): politics and the academic community. An insight into the first sphere, thepolitical one, provides an introductory, succinct overview of the development of societal roles andpositions of women during the period of Jugloslawia (1945-1992). Afterward, it focuses on the currentposition of women in another public sphere, the academic community. The applied method was a test(questionnaire). The first challenge was to determine the exact number of women engaged in the teachingprocess at the chosen public university in BiH (University of Zenica) since it was not possible to obtaindata through the official internet websites or from the relevant published documents. According to theseofficial documents, the total number of employees based on contracts for full-time or piece-workengagements in 2017 was 520. But, these documents did not contain data on the number of men andwomen who are engaged as teachers. Based on data available on the internet websites of faculties ofthis University, there were 65 women engaged as teachers; all were full-time employees since thesewebsites did not present persons engaged as teachers on other legal bases. Results confirmed, whilewomen were not taking the managing positions, men were undoubtedly dominant in higher educationinstitutions managing positions. Although women fairly successfully graduate from all three universitystudy cycles, afterward they face the so-called „glass ceiling“, disabling them or making it very hard toofficially enter the education institutions as employees, which limits any future advancement. Womenwho managed to become faculty members were very often faced with gender-based stigmatization and/orsegregation. Further analyses should establish why women, as employees of HEIs, hesitate and declineto accept managing positions. Also, it is necessary to enhance the higher education institution’smethodolog

The thesis deals with customer segmentation with the help of data mining and identifies relevant methods and data that are important for segmentation in the banking sector. The period of rapid development of technology and advanced analytical tools requires constant adjustment of the offer to consumers and analysis of their needs and habits. In addition to the many benefits we receive from the advancement of technology, we also face many challenges. In banking, this is especially evident in the frequent abuses and frauds that banks try to avoid and prevent on a daily basis. A large number of customers cannot be addressed individually, so segmentation in banking is extremely important and allows banks to adjust their offer to customers based on their common characteristics. In the empirical part of the thesis, I presented an example of customer segmentation based on demographic characteristics. I used the k-means clustering method, which is one of the most commonly used methods for customer segmentation. I described the obtained clusters and defined the key characteristics of individuals who belong to a certain cluster and what services the bank can offer to individuals within these clusters.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) is exposed to many natural hazards. Changes in hydromechanical regime, long-lasting droughts, extreme rainfalls of high intensity and short duration, as well as endogenous processes caused more and more destructive floods, torrents, earthquakes and landslides. However, in analyzing the causes that lead to the negative consequences of natural occurrences, anthropogenic activity plays a major role. In this connection, this chapter will analyze primarily the causes that lead to the negative effects of natural phenomena. When speaking about anthropogenic activity and role of the man in the increasing of the consequences of natural disasters, will be analyzed activities that are not conducted in a sector of strategic documents and spatial plans, as well as specific gaps in individual sectors of the economy. The development of a disaster risk reduction strategy, consisting of assessing the vulnerability and mapping risks from certain natural disasters, is considered important in the prevention of disasters, and will be processed in particular. Their integration into spatial plans, with the use of modern technologies (such as GIS), could greatly contribute to reducing the consequences of natural disasters.

Modern agricultural production is often associated with application of agrochemicals. One of them is glyphosate, which has become one of the most widely used herbicides in weed control. However, the widespread use of glyphosate may influence the living organism’s activity. The aim of this paper was to estimate the soil microbial activity after glyphosate application. Glyphosate (Glifomark SG) was applied at the end of 2017 on two locations: Principovo polje, and Novi Travnik (Travnik municipality, Bosnia and Herzegovina), so that corn and raspberry residues can be removed. Soil sampling (0–10 and 10–30 cm) was conducted at the time of glyphosate application, also 15 and 45 days after application. On control soil glyphosate was not applied. Chemical soil analysis (pH, content of humus, available P and K) was performed using standard methodology, whilst microbial abundance (total number of bacteria, ammonification bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and glyphosate-tolerant bacteria) was analyzed using agar plate method. The results of chemical soil analysis showed slightly acid to slightly alkaline pH value, moderate to high humus content, and low to high content of available P and K. In most of samples, bacterial number was reduced 15 days after glyphosate application, whilst at the end of experiment increase of bacterial abundance was recorded. Similar results were obtained for fungi. Rapid decrease of actinomycetes number was observed after application of glyphosate. Two bacterial strains (PP-23 and NT-11) were able to grow on mineral medium supplemented with glyphosate in concentrations of 1 and 2% (v/v), thus representing a promising candidates for bioremediation of soil contaminated with glyphosate.

- Abstract
The research included a suitable sample of students at the Department of Social Pedagogy in Zenica (N= 81), who completed a short socio-demographic survey and a Rokeach's Terminal Values Survey. Terminal values represent the goals of human existence, among which the following values might be distinguished: individual, collective, humane, and altruistic. Bearing in mind practical implications of knowing the values as such, the values which represent sources and guides for attitudes and behavior, and which have been shown to correlate significantly with numerous variables (cognitive functioning, free time, risk behavior, addiction), we considered it important to examine the most prominent terminal values among our students, and compare the results to the results of the available studies involving comparable groups of participants. Based on the findings, we derived six subscales of grouped terminal values: social harmony, self-actualization, personal gratification, security, love and affection, and personal satisfaction. Only the personal gratification variable showed normal distribution, while all other were negatively asymmetric, indicating, thus, an insufficient discrimination of Rokeach’s Terminal Values Scale. Generally, the participants deemed all terminal values significant. In the overall sample, the lowest ranked individual terminal values were exciting life, the world of beauty and money, while the highest ranked were family security, self-esteem, and personal happiness. The gender variable was statistically significantly correlated with the subscale of personal gratification. A Mann-Whitney’s test showed that personal gratification, measured by the items of comfortable life, exciting life, satisfaction and social recognition, statistically significantly correlated with the gender variable (U=237, p

The 677 C>T (rs1799986) polymorphism is located at position 677 in exon 3 of the LRP1 gene. The aim of this study was to determine the allele and genotype frequencies of the polymorphism in Bosnian population. The study included 100 unrelated healthy individuals. Genotyping of 677 C>T polymorphism of the LRP1 gene was performed with PCR-RFLP method. The most frequent allele was the C allele (91%), while the T allele was represented by 9%. These results suggested that presence of the 677 C>T polymorphism of the LRP1 gene in our population should be a base for further case-control association or population genetics studies. Keywords –LRP1 gene, PCR-RFLP method.

Aims: Cardiac repair has steered clinical attention and remains an unmet need, because available regenerative therapies lack robust mechanistic evidence. Pressure-controlled intermittent coronary sinus occlusion (PICSO), known to induce angiogenetic and vasoactive molecules as well as to reduce regional ischemia, may activate endogenous regenerative processes in failing myocardium. We aimed to investigate the effects of PICSO in patients with advanced heart failure undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy. Methods and results: Eight out of 32 patients were treated with PICSO, and the remainder served as controls. After electrode testing including left ventricular leads, PICSO was performed for 20 min. To test immediate molecular responses, in both patient groups, coronary venous blood samples were taken at baseline and after 20 min, the time required for the intervention. Sera were tested for microRNAs and growth factors. To test the ability of up-regulated soluble factors on cell proliferation and expression of transcription factors [e.g. Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF-4)], sera were co-cultured with human cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts. As compared with controls, significant differential expression (differences between pre-values and post-values in relation to both patient cohorts) of microRNA patterns associated with cardiac development was observed with PICSO. Importantly, miR-143 (P

The paper discusses the possibility of improving the character of gas surge arresters. Examined were: the magnetic field effect, the effect of the hollow cathode, and the effect of the alpha radiation source 241Am. Numerical and real experiments conducted are presented together with theoretical interpretations of the obtained results. Real experiments were carried out on a model of a gas surge arrester spatially constructed for experiments presented in this paper. The model was designed in such a way that it was possible to change all the relevant parameters of the gas surge arrester model. Experiments were conducted under well-controlled laboratory conditions. The tests were performed with d. c. and impulse voltage. The results obtained by experiments were processed by sophisticated statistical methods. The expressed measurement uncertainty of the experimental procedure showed a high statistical reliability of the obtained results. Based on the results of the research, the model of a gas surge arrester, in which the effect of the hollow cathode and the radioactive source 241Am were combined, unambiguously proved to have the best characteristics.

This study builds on a long-standing interest in (social) psychological outcomes of adolescent attachment styles and attachment patterns with parents. One of the outcomes I explored is in-group identification and in-group attachment, which are especially salient in the divided society of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The present cross-sectional study involved a stratified convenience sample of 735 participants (51.7 % female), aged 16 to 21 years (M= 18.72, SD=1.54). A significant positive correlation was found between current attachment style and in-group identification (r=.17, p<.01 for ethnic, and r=.13, p<.05 for religious). The present study points to further investigations and subsequent cross-field theoretical advancements regarding the possible effects of attachment on group identification and group attachment. - Abstract
Analizom djelovanja ovih portala omogućit će se bolji uvid u stvarnu potrebu institucionalnog rješavanja problema medijskog opismenjavanja publike u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Urbanization and climate change have negative effects on the changes of natural hydrological regime (precipitation and runoff regime), which results with more frequent floods and landslides. Besides of the increased quantity of the stormwater that drainage channels have to collect, negative consequences of urbanization are also evident through increased pollution of runoff stormwater. Therefore, the drainage system and stormwater management should be adapted to these changes so that the negative effects of new hydrological conditions of precipitation and runoff and stormwater pollution in the urban areas are mitigated. This article aims at presenting challenges and opportunities for the advancement of stormwater management practices in urban areas. Some of urban stormwater management technologies are presented. These technologies are more used in urban areas of some countries of Europe.

Background BMP signaling is involved in myriad metazoan developmental processes, and study of this pathway in Drosophila has contributed greatly to our understanding of its molecular and genetic mechanisms. These studies have benefited not only from Drosophila’s advanced genetic tools, but from complimentary in vitro culture systems. However, the commonly-used S2 cell line is not intrinsically sensitive to the major BMP ligand Dpp and must therefore be augmented with exogenous pathway components for most experiments. Results Herein we identify and characterize the responses of Drosophila ML-DmD17-c3 cells, which are sensitive to Dpp stimulation and exhibit characteristic regulation of BMP target genes including Dad and brk. Dpp signaling in ML-DmD17-c3 cells is primarily mediated by the receptors Put and Tkv, with additional contributions from Wit and Sax. Furthermore, we report complex regulatory feedback on core pathway genes in this system. Conclusions Native ML-DmD17-c3 cells exhibit robust transcriptional responses to BMP pathway induction. We propose that ML-DmD17-c3 cells are well-suited for future BMP pathway analyses. regulatory independence ,Media regulation ,Law and Society ,Juridik och samhälle - Abstract
This IRIS Special focuses on the independence of regulatory authorities and bodies in the broadcasting and audiovisual media sector in Europe. These entities have proliferated according to the different legal traditions of the respective countries they belong to. They do not, therefore, conform one, single model. Nonetheless, they reflect a common approach of sorts with regard to the institutional set-up of regulatory governance. The independence of these entities is particularly important because it contributes to the broader objective of media independence, which is in itself an essential component of democracy. The creation, status and functioning of these regulatory authorities and bodies were shaped pursuant to the constitutional requirements and/or administrative practices of the countries that established them. As a result, each has distinct characteristics and levels of independence that differ according to where they are located. But when is an authority to be considered independent? The measurement of an entity's independence requires careful analysis of the legal texts setting it up, but also of the practices that are rooted in reality and reflect the sensitivities of the societies in question. This IRIS Special aims to enlighten the reader on the definition of the independence of a regulatory authority or body, on the criteria used to assess its independence, and on the legal framework embodying this independence at the European level, as well as provide analysis of the status and functioning of regulatory authorities and bodies in a selection of nine European countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Slovenia. This sample reflects the different levels of independence that can be found across Europe. © European Audiovisual Observatory (Council of Europe), Strasbourg, September 2019

The aim of the study was to analyze correlation between morphological characteristics of intracranial meningiomas and Ki67 labeling index (Ki67 LI), and their influence on peritumoral brain edema (PTBE). There were 41 consecutive patients with intracranial meningiomas surgically treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, Zenica Cantonal Hospital, Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, during the period from January 2010 to December 2015. We reviewed clinical data including patient age, gender, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of the tumor and peritumoral edema, tumor margins, intraoperative characteristics, histopathologic grade and Ki67 LI. In all cases, follow up MRI was obtained at about three months after resection and PTBE was analyzed. Our research showed the tumor volume, tumor margins, and intraoperative signs of arachnoidal and pial invasion to be associated with PTBE in intracranial meningiomas. Ki67 LI expression correlated with PTBE. This study showed the resolution of PTBE to depend on invasive behavior of meningioma and KI67 LI. U svrhu istraživanja analizirali smo kliničke podatke uključujući dob, spol, MRI karakteristike tumora i peritumoralnog edema, margine tumora, intraoperacijske karakteristike tumora, histopatološki gradus i Ki67.

SUMMARY The aim of the study was to analyze correlation between morphological characteristics of intracranial meningiomas and Ki67 labeling index (Ki67 LI), and their influence on peritumoral brain edema (PTBE). PTBE, pial/cortical and arachnoidal invasion significantly influence the extent of surgical resection.

Environmental risk ,water ,abandoned mines - Abstract
There is a strong need for mine water risk assessment. In Europe, the majority of mine water problems are associated with abandoned mines, thousands of which can be found in nearly all European countries. The abandoned mines are the mine sites that are no longer operational, not actively managed, not rehabilitated. These sites include open pits and waste disposal areas, such as tailing dumps and ponds. The most serious problems are linked to the interruption of dewatering, leading to flooding in mines and discharge of mine water to surface water and to river valleys. The major problem affecting water resources is acid mine drainage (AMD). That is the consequence of the interaction of sulphides such as pyrite minerals, with oxygenated water. Due the increased mobility of metals at low pH, acid mine waters with elevated concentrations of toxic metals and metalloids, such as As, can affect water quality and thereby also aquatic biota. The mine water can pose serious health hazards for the communities around the area, and can affect the livelihood of communities that depend on fishing. In the Balkans region, we have investigated the quality of the water and sediment in the lakes that have formed naturally in the place of former open pits (OP) of the Smreka iron mine, Drage coal mine, Vinjani bauxite mine, as well as in the Veovača tailing lake, located in the location of the of abandoned Zn-Ba-Pb mine. Metal concentrations were determined using ICP-MS techniques. It was found that lakes are not acidic ; the pH values are circum-neutral due to the presence of carbonates. At the location of the coal mine, the water is characterized by elevated Mn (55.8 - 84.3 μg/L), Ni (30.7 - 33.1 μg/L) and uranium (up to 33.7 μg/L) concentrations. Number of metals (Cd, Pb, V, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Sb, Ba, As) showed high enrichment in sediments of the lakes Smreka and Veovača. In both lakes, concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in sediment are above the Probable Effect Levels (PELs) values, according to the Canadian Sediment Quality Guidelines. However, the concentrations of metals in the water of these lakes are low suggesting that metals deposited in sediment are not very mobile. Mine water studies and designing monitoring program allow timely recognition of risks and the development of methods to minimize their adverse impact.

Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences offers three professional study programmes – Mechatronics, Nursing and Computer Science. Several multidisciplinary projects have been implemented at the institution so far. The bionic human hand project, as related to cognitive robotics, involved a multidisciplinary approach that connects the three aforementioned scientific fields. Studying the cognitive human behavior while opening and closing the hand, human hand anatomy, designing a 3D CAD model, manufacturing supported by additive technologies, assembling and programming were carried out at the laboratories of the Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences. The hand is electronically activated and controlled by muscle contractions of the user’s fingers. The presented bionic hand may be used in the area of videogames or in biomedicine, as well as in dealing with hazardous materials. Rapid development of 3D technologies allows individuals to become small-scale producers. Naturally, 3D printing has its limitations, but the development will surely lead to improvements. Robotics and medicine are exceptionally interesting fields as related to the future of mankind. Due to the complexity of topics and technologies involved, linguists will play an important role in the systematization of the terminology, where close collaboration between linguists and experts from the fields of robotics and medicine will be required. This project covers a wide range of engineering and terminology topics, and the article is written for a broad audience.

- Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide and, despite continuous advances, better diagnostic and prognostic tools, as well as therapy, are needed. The human transcriptome, which is the set of all RNA produced in a cell, is much more complex than previously thought and the lack of dialogue between researchers and industrials and consensus on guidelines to generate data make it harder to compare and reproduce results. This European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action aims to accelerate the understanding of transcriptomics in CVD and further the translation of experimental data into usable applications to improve personalized medicine in this field by creating an interdisciplinary network. It aims to provide opportunities for collaboration between stakeholders from complementary backgrounds, allowing the functions of different RNAs and their interactions to be more rapidly deciphered in the cardiovascular context for translation into the clinic, thus fostering personalized medicine and meeting a current public health challenge. Thus, this Action will advance studies on cardiovascular transcriptomics, generate innovative projects, and consolidate the leadership of European research groups in the field. COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding organization for research and innovation networks (www.cost.eu).

The 1691 (G>A) factor V Leiden (FVL) and 20210 (G>A) prothrombin (PT) mutations are the two most common genetic risk factors in venous thromboembolism. The 677 (C>T) methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) mutation is the most frequently mentioned as an independent genetic risk factor for venous thromboembolism. As there are limited published data on the prevalence of the 1691, 20210 and 677 mutations in our population, the aim of this study was to determine the frequencies and association of these deep vein thrombosis mutations in the Bosnian population. This study included 111 thromboembolic patients and 207 healthy subjects with absence of known risk factors for venous thromboembolism. Genotyping of the 1691, 20210 and 677 mutations was done by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), followed by restriction digestion with MnlI, HindIII and HinfI enzymes. Out of the 111 patients, 18.0% were heterozygous and 2.70% were homozygous for the 1691 mutation. Among 207 healthy controls, 3.86%, were heterozygous for the 1691 mutation. This study confirmed the association of the 1691 mutation with deep vein thrombosis in the Bosnian population odds ratio (OR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] = 6.0 (2.62-14.14); p = 0.0001). The 20210 mutation was detected in 2.70% of patients and it was totally absent in the control group. Allele and genotype frequency of 677 did not differ significantly between the cases and controls (χ2 = 1.03; p = 0.309).

PSYCHOLOGICAL burnout ,MEDICAL personnel ,JOB stress ,SELF-esteem - Abstract
Burnout, a state of stress-induced emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion, continues to be a topic of interest across a broad array of sciences. It is because burnout not only causes psychosomatic problems, but also has an effect on job performance, which is vital in high-stake professions. Therefore, exploring the level of healthcare professionals' burnout, and understanding which work-place factors are correlated with it, is of outmost importance. For this purpose, the present correlational study explored this issue in a convenience sample of 209 MDs and nurses from primary healthcare institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including, for the first time, a comprehensive number of psychosocial factors at work. Interestingly, the majority of healthcare professionals scored low on burnout measures of MBI. Nevertheless, one fifth of participants had potential early warning signs of burnout. Compared to their colleagues in other European countries, Bosnian-Herzegovinian doctors experience lower yet comparable levels of emotional exhaustion, lower depersonalization, and higher sense of personal achievement. Furthermore, nurses show an even more beneficial trend on all three burnout dimensions. In addition, the study established some significant positive predictors of burnout dimensions pertaining to the work environment. More precisely, quantitative workload and decision-making demands were found to be positive predictors of emotional exhaustion, while the strongest predictors of depersonalization were work-place support (from colleagues and superiors) and self-esteem. Significant predictors of personal accomplishment were perception of mastery and work centrality. This suggests that burnout among healthcare professionals arises both from the immediate workplace factors and individual ones, therefore implicating institutions in its prevention and reduction. River ecosystem ,Flood myth ,Human settlement ,Urbanization ,Ecologically sustainable development ,Climate change ,Population growth ,Water resource management ,Groundwater - Abstract
Rivers have always been the most important source of water for man. And not only were that, often in its natural state, through natural retention and bayou, the rivers have the best flood defense. It is also important to note that coastal vegetation has had a significant impact on the purification of water that is infiltrated from the waterways into the groundwater. Human development, population growth, urbanization, climate change have led to a significant drop in river health at the global level. In the zone of settlements, the rivers have undergone major morphological and hydraulic changes, which ultimately led to disturbances of the river’s ecological status and the loss of sociological role of the river in the urban environment. In this connection, this paper will give an overview of the most common mistakes made in river regulation over the past period. It will also highlight the ways and possibilities of reconstructing the river from the position of ecologically sustainable development and flood protection. It is reflected in the passive and active ways of restoring the river, and the importance of applying the principle of integral river management in the context of water recovery.

- Abstract

Aims Cardiac repair has steered clinical attention and remains an unmet need, because available regenerative therapies lack robust mechanistic evidence. Pressure‐controlled intermittent coronary sinus occlusion (PICSO), known to induce angiogenetic and vasoactive molecules as well as to reduce regional ischemia, may activate endogenous regenerative processes in failing myocardium. We aimed to investigate the effects of PICSO in patients with advanced heart failure undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy. Methods and results Eight out of 32 patients were treated with PICSO, and the remainder served as controls. After electrode testing including left ventricular leads, PICSO was performed for 20 min. To test immediate molecular responses, in both patient groups, coronary venous blood samples were taken at baseline and after 20 min, the time required for the intervention. Sera were tested for microRNAs and growth factors. To test the ability of up‐regulated soluble factors on cell proliferation and expression of transcription factors [e.g. Krüppel‐like factor 4 (KLF‐4)], sera were co‐cultured with human cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts. As compared with controls, significant differential expression (differences between pre‐values and post‐values in relation to both patient cohorts) of microRNA patterns associated with cardiac development was observed with PICSO. Importantly, miR‐143 (P

balastne vode, sustavi za tretiranje, IMO, Konvencija - Abstract
Danas je jasno prepoznata mogućnost prijenosa invazivnih vrsta brodskim balastnim vodama između različitih svjetskih regija. Sukladno tome, Međunarodna pomorska organizacija (IMO) je usvojila Međunarodnu konvenciju o kontroli i upravljanju brodskim balastnim vodama i talozima (BWMC) u veljači 2004. godine.

In practice are used several neutral point grounding modes for medium voltage grids. Each mode has certain advantages, but also disadvantages. Therefore, for the final decision on the grounding method a special analysis is performed for each transformer substation, given the specificity of the distribution grid connected to it. Neutral point treatment also affects the reliability of electricity supply to consumers, which in conditions of an open electricity market is gaining more and more importance. Along to the technical of great importance is the economic aspect as some solutions differ significantly. This paper gives a specific review of basic technical characteristics for solutions with compensated (resonant) grounding of the neutral point, i.e. application of Arc Suppression Coil (ASC)—Peterson coil technology in distribution grids, which implies neutral point grounding of the power transformer through an inductive reactance. Also in the paper are given basic principles of applied protections as well as modern approaches for failure detection in distribution grids with compensated neutral points.

Control of potable water treatment plant (PWTP) is nowadays based on experience. The aim of this article is to show that model based control of treatment process is more efficient than process operation based on experience. Stimela environment is used for modeling of processes of potable water treatment. Application of the model was conducted on PWTP "Crkvice" in Zenica (BiH). This plant has used conventional rapid sand filters. By effective application of the model it is determined the optimal filter run time for different input turbidity of raw water. This results in the possibility of reducing the consumption of backwashing water, lower costs for its pumping and reducing the amount of coagulants. In the existing practice, based on experience, these benefits are not used.

Objective – We report an unusual case of split cord malformation (SCM) associated with open spinal dysraphism and other anomalies of the central nervous system. Case report – A male newborn was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit immediately after birth by Caesarean delivery. Clinical examination and diagnostics (MRI) showed open spinal dysraphism in the distal part of the spine (level L5 and S1), split cord malformation type I which separated two hemicords, tethered cord and syringomyelia. Two days after birth microneurosurgery was performed. Cranial and cervical MRI showed Chiari I and corpus callosum hypoplasia. There was no hydrocephalus. Preoperatively the patient had paraparesis and discretely moved his left foot. MRI showed a dilated bladder so he may have had urinary retention. The postoperative recovery was satisfactory. The patient did not have any additional neurological deficit. The patient was followed up by a neurosurgeon, pediatric surgeon, pediatrician and physiatrist. Control MRI scans showed significant regression of the syrinx and some ascensus of the medulla. About 18 months after operation the patient had discrete paresis of the left foot. Conclusion – Complex spina bifida is an extremely rare condition. In this paper we describe this interesting case of complex spina bifida: a split cord malformation characterized by atypical bony morphology with a dural fold into the bone septum.

Medieval Bosnia's archaeological sites hold a wealth of historical and cultural significance. Recently, some studies placed emphasis on DNA analysis of skeletal remains from various Bosnian necropolises, and this one brings information about rapid, automated DNA extraction from nine archaeological and seven recent samples. The aim of this study was to emphasize the rapid efficiency of automated DNA extraction method on the EZ2 Connect Fx device, thereby showcasing its ability to achieve swift and effective results compared to alternative methods. The genomic DNA extraction from 16 given samples was performed with a commercial EZ1&2® DNA Investigator® Kit. Final concentration of DNA was determined using Qubit™ Fluorometer*. Concerning archaeological samples, the lowest measured concentration was =0.010 ng/µL (sample A12/03-17), the highest measured concentration was 28.8 ng/µL (sample A4/05-19), and the concentration of sample A15/01-21 defied measurement. Among the recent samples, sample S1/03-16 displayed the highest concentration at 80.2 ng/µL, while sample O3/32-17 showed the lowest detected concentration at 0.010 ng/µL. Amplification of the isolated DNA was carried out with Investigator 24plex kit. DNA profiles were generated using 3500 Genetic Analyzer and further analyzed with GeneMapper™ ID-X 1.6 software. After obtaining DNA profiles of nine archaeological samples, eight of the total number were partial profiles (two samples showing less than 50% amplified loci and six displaying over 50% amplified loci), whereas sample A10/05-19 showed no amplified loci. Of the seven recent samples, two exhibited partial profiles, while five were complete profiles (all samples showed above 50% amplified loci). This study pointed to the benefits associated with automated DNA extraction, particularly the method's ability to generate results within a short timeframe. Additionally, automated DNA extraction offered the advantage of avoiding pipette and tip usage (with the exception of setting up sample incubation pre-isolation), which minimized the potential for exogenous DNA contamination and cross-contamination. High efficiency, a quality exuded by this method, holds paramount significance when working with skeletal remains, particularly archaeological skeletal remains that pose a challenge for molecular genetic analyses.
