Background: In recent years, delivery of drugs by nanocomposites has emerged as an exciting field of research for bio-imaging tools and targeted cancer treatment. The large surface area and porous volume of mesoporous silica nanocomposites (MSN’s) have gained a lot of interest for their application in the delivery of drugs and magnetic properties of Iron oxide (IO) nanocomposites play a key role in targeted delivery system. Methods: In this study, mesoporous silica encapsulated IO nanocomposites loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) were synthesized for the magnetically guided delivery of anticancer drugs. The synthesis of IO nanocomposites was done through the precipitation method and then silica encapsulation and drug loading was done by StÖber method. Results: The magnetically driven delivery of the drug is produced by the encapsulation of magnetically active IO in the mesoporous silica shell. The controlled release of DOX is possible because of the MSN’s. TEM images shows that the nanocomposites have spherical morphology and average diameter in the rage of 120 nm. Power-XRD data confirms the crystalline nature of nanocomposites. The strong absorption peak was observed in UV-Visible spectroscopy at 490 nm and quenching in fluorescence spectra confirms the encapsulation of DOX in the mesoporous silica shell. VSM data showed magnetic nature of nanocomposites, with large magnetic susceptibility (74.88 emu/g). The use of DOX/IO@Silica nanocomposites as a sustainable drug release and targeted drug delivery vehicle has been reported here. The pH dependent release of DOX was studied and significant release was observed at lower pH. In-vitro cell viability assay and fluorescence imaging assay have demonstrated that these nanocomposites show significant dose-dependent toxicity to cancer cells in the presence magnetic field. Conclusion: In-vitro studies via the MTT assay showed that these synthesized nanocomposites in culture are non-toxic to healthy cells compared DOX-induced cytotoxicity due its controlled release and can be further strengthened by magnetic guidance. Therefore, due to its optical properties and potential for guided delivery of drug to the targeted site, these nanocomposites are ideal as an anticancer agent and bio-imaging prob.

Here, in this work, acid-activated bentonite and its nanocomposite with hematite nanoparticles were synthesized using the simple chemithermal and thermal coupling methods, respectively. The synthesized samples were investigated for morphological, compositional, structural, and thermal properties. Results suggested distortion in clay structure on acid activation and nanocomposite formation with improved thermal stability. Nanocomposite acts as a quencher for thermoluminescence and as an insulator in heat transfer reactions.

PurposeThe current study aims to identify the impact of financial literacy, financial risk-tolerance, financial socialization, financial stress, socio-demographic factors and financial behavior on the individual financial wellbeing residing in India's National Capital Region (NCR) region. Understanding financial wellbeing is crucial as it helps individuals understand personal finance better and develop a more favorable financial attitude. The information can depict individuals' financial skills, knowledge and attitudes toward achieving financial wellbeing in emerging economies.Design/methodology/approachThrough self-administered survey questionnaires, data are obtained using convenience sampling from 420 (394) respondents regarding individual financial wellbeing levels in India. The survey responses were collected between May 2022 and July 2022. The authors use the “partial least squares structural equation modeling” (PLS-SEM) technique to test the research hypotheses.FindingsThe present study's outcome confirms that five determinants, such as financial literacy, financial risk-tolerance, financial socialization, financial stress and socio-demographic factors, significantly influence the financial behavior of individuals. Further, financial behavior, financial literacy, financial risk-tolerance and financial socialization significantly influence financial wellbeing. However, financial stress and socio-demographic factors have statistically insignificant impacts on financial wellbeing.Originality/valueThe present study is exclusive in which an effort is being made to acquire relative importance on financial behavior and an individual's financial wellbeing. The present paper will help the government, financial services providers, and policymakers in offering innovative economic schemes and designing policies that may enhance the financial wellbeing of individuals. Finally, this article provides the road map for future research in this field.

Case overview/synopsis 39 Bakers, a multi-outlet bakery chain in Jammu, India, is run by its founder Gagan. 39 Bakers, through its retail outlets across the Jammu region, offers a variety of products, ranging from bakery items that include blends of Indian and Italian cuisines, offering more than 1000 stock keeping units (SKUs). Through its high-quality offerings at an affordable price range, the brand has carved a niche in the hyper-competitive bakery market of the Jammu region. Gagan, has closely seen the Jammu market and customer preferences and strongly perceived that the customers in the Jammu region are very price sensitive. Thus, he has always been very reluctant to increase the prices of his product offerings at 39 Bakers. He has always believed that any drastic price rise may lead to immediate dissatisfaction and customer churn and therefore has not increased the prices at 39 Bakers for two years in a row. While this decision of Gagan paid off in terms of its popularity and recognition as one of the highly recommended bakery chains among customers, it drastically impacted the bottom line (i.e. profitability) at 39 Bakers, especially in the year 2020–21. Getting popularity at the cost of dipping profitability made Gagan rethink his decision to be protective of price increases at 39 bakers. How can he measure customer satisfaction and loyalty? Which loyalty strategies will work for the huge customer base of Jammu? Should he change his business model from B2C to B2B? How can loyalty be established? How can he manage his existing and loyal customers through price increases? PurposeThe purpose of this article is to revisit the mean reversion in profitability and earnings among Indian-listed firms, based on the idea that changes in profitability and earnings are somewhat predictable.Design/methodology/approachThe study used a sample of 445 Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)-listed companies and 309 companies from the manufacturing sector in India for the period from 2007 to 2020. The study employed cross-sectional regressions. Both linear and non-linear Partial Adjustment Models (PAM) were used to forecast profitability and earnings.FindingsThe study revealed that profitability and earnings mean revert for both the BSE-listed companies and the manufacturing sector companies from 2007 to 2012. However, for the years from 2013 to 2020, it was found that there is no significant evidence of mean reversion in both the BSE-listed companies or the manufacturing sector companies.Practical implicationsThe findings have larger implications for security analysts who forecast future stabilisation or recovery of historically high or low growth rates. Investors and analysts would benefit from having a better understanding of how competitive attacks affect profitability as well as how the overall economic growth of a country affects earnings and valuations.Originality/valueMost of the empirical research in India has focused on mean reversion in stock prices or stock returns. The present study looked at the mean reversion of profitability and earnings in Indian firms.

In biomedical applications, iron oxide nanoparticles (IO NPs) offer several excellent advantages. In biological systems, iron oxide nanoparticles have a non-toxic nature. Iron oxide nanoparticles may be employed in a variety of biological applications since they have magnetic and semiconductor characteristics. In order to get over current limitations, recent research has focused on developing next-generation nanoparticle systems with enhanced surface modifications for internalization and targeting. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MNPs) have a variety of biological applications, including cell separation, hyperthermia, tissue healing and magnetic resonance imaging contrast enhancement. This review clarifies how IO NPs are used in many biological applications. According to this review, iron oxide plays a positive function in biological activity because of its simplicity of synthesis, various magnetic behaviors, biocompatibility and biodegradability. When iron oxide nanoparticles are used in a biological way, their size, shape, surface modification, aggregation and electrical properties all have a unique effect. Based on this review work, the IO NPs may be specified for biocompatibility, hyperthermia, drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging, tissue repair and magnetofection.

Case overview/synopsis NIVA, The Satin Collection, is a manufacturer and distributor of a luxury collection of silk and satin products. Founded in 2020, NIVA is based in Dubai with more than 1,000 customers. The products include silk bedding, silk sleepwear, fashion accessories and reusable satin masks, and they are made-to-order, custom-made and tailored locally in Dubai. Currently, all the operations are run and managed by the company’s founder, Purva. The only operation which is outsourced is the stitching process. The company is completely operating online and is currently promoting products only through social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Purva is planning to expand her business. The two options are extending her existing operations in the UAE and expanding to other emerging markets, starting with India. Purva needs to decide on a suitable internationalization strategy to decide whether it is the right decision to enter the Indian market, including an entry and promotion strategy in her target market. In addition, she needs to decide whether to continue with NIVA’s current business model in India. There might also be additional possible challenges for NIVA in entering the Indian market.
