Background Hypertension affects 31.1% of adults worldwide, with higher prevalence of great than 60% in elderly. Advanced hypertension stage was associated with the higher risk of mortality. However, little is known about the age-specific association of stage of hypertension at diagnosis on cardiovascular mortality or all-cause mortality. Therefore, we aim to explore this age-specific association among the hypertensive elderly through stratified and interaction analyses. Methods This cohort study included 125,978 elderly hypertensive patients aged 60+ years from Shanghai of China. Cox regression was used to estimate the independent and joint effect of hypertension stage and age at diagnosis on cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Interactions were evaluated both additively and multiplicatively. Multiplicative interaction was examined by the Wald test of the interaction term. Additive interaction was assessed by relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). All analyses were performed stratified by sex. Results 28,250 patients died during the follow-up up to 8.85 years, and 13,164 died of cardiovascular events. Older age and advanced hypertension stage were risk factors of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality. Besides, smoking, rarely exercise, BMI Conclusions Diagnosed with stage 3 hypertension was associated with higher risks of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality, which were stronger among patients with age at diagnosis of 60–69 years compared with those with age at diagnosis of 70–85 years. Therefore, for the younger part of the elderly, the Department of Health should pay more attention to treating patients with stage 3 hypertension.

Atherosclerosis (AS), is characterized by the subintima lipid accumulation and chronic inflammation inside the arterial wall, causing much mortality and morbidity worldwide. Activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) is a member of ATF/cAMP-responsive element-binding (CREB) family of transcription factors, which acts as a master regulator of adaptive response. Recent studies have indicated the implicated role of ATF3 in atherogenesis and AS progression due to its impact on metabolic disorder, vascular injury, plaque formation, and stability. In this review, we summarize the current advances in the mechanism of ATF3 activation and the contribution of ATF3 in AS, highlighting vascular intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms of how ATF3 influences the pathology of AS.The relevant literature (from origin to March 2022) was retrieved through PubMed research to explore the regulatory mechanism of ATF3 and the specific role of ATF3 in AS. Only English publications were reviewed in this paper.ATF3 acts as a key regulator of AS progression, which not only directly affects atherosclerotic lesions by regulating vascular homeostasis, but also gets involved in AS through systemic glucolipid metabolism and inflammatory response. The two different promoters, transcript variants, and post-translational modification in distinct cell types partly contribute to the regulatory diversity of ATF3 in AS.ATF3 is a crucial transcription regulatory factor during atherogenesis and AS progression. Gaining a better understanding of how ATF3 affects vascular, metabolic, and immune homeostasis would advance the progress of ATF3-targeted therapy in AS.

This paper aims at avoiding the hand-feeling deterioration of cashmere fabric during the anti-pilling and anti-static functional finishing process, based on traditional “addition” technology. A couple of flexible anionic hydrophilic polyurethanes are purposefully designed, synthesized and employed in the construction of a combinatorial microcoating on the surface of cashmere fiber to endow it with pilling resistance and static resistance. In addition, a foam coating process based on polyurethanes, endowing cashmere with pilling resistance and static resistance from bottom coating and table coating, respectively, and including the hand-feeling of treated cashmere fabric, is studied. Then, the optimal processing technology of bifunctional finishing of the anti-pilling and anti-static properties of cashmere fabric is confirmed. The results show that the pilling resistance of cashmere fabric treated by the foam coating process will be enhanced from grade 2–3 to grade 4–5 when the weight gain rate of bottom coating polyurethane reaches 1.0% (o.m.f.). Moreover, the graphene semi-embedded in the table coating membrane could decrease the static voltage half-life of cashmere fabric from 180 s to less than 2 s.

Grice’s ‘what is said’/implicature and relevance theory’s explicature/implicature are two prominent views of utterance meaning. With the help of specific examples, this paper compares and studies the definitions of the two theories in detail, as well as their impact on the process of implicature deducing. It is found that Grice’s view can indeed explain the generation process of implicature in some simple sentence patterns, but the relevance theory is obviously of wider application value. After discussion, the paper proposes that relevance theory still needs to be further explained in the decoding of utterance, which should be paid attention to in future related research.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disorder of pancreas and common digestive diseases, effective drug for AP is few. As an analog of active center of Reg3α, the biological activities of HTD4010 are similar to Reg3α. This study aimed to explore whether HTD4010 could decrease the inflammatory response and pancreatic injury in hypertriglyceridemic-AP (HTG-AP), and explore underlying mechanisms. This study was shown that the administration of HTD4010 could decrease the inflammatory response, reduce acinar cell injury (both apoptosis and necroptosis) and damage of lung tissue in HTG-AP. Moreover, HTD4010 down-regulated the expression of TLR4 and NF-κB protein. These results showed that HTD4010 could alleviate the severity of AP possibly by TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in HTG-AP.

Software vulnerabilities are one of the roots of computer security problems. The traditional static analysis and dynamic analysis methods based on software source code mainly have some deficiencies, such as high false positive rate, high false negative rate and insufficient semantic information captured. Nevertheless, the application of machine learning, Natural Language Processing and other technologies in software vulnerability prediction can effectively mitigate such issues. This paper proposed a vulnerability prediction method based on multiple-level N-gram feature extraction and heterogeneous ensemble learning. First, by code intermediate representation and constructing a multiple-level N-gram feature generation model, two kinds of N-gram semantic features with different window size and different granularity at word and char level were extracted to retain the semantic and structural information of code. Second, TF–IDF was used to construct the vector space model as the input of prediction model. As a single classifier was prone to overfitting and poor generalization, this paper conducted benchmark testing on five classical machine learning algorithms (NB, SVM, DT, LR, RF), and then combined four (SVM, DT, LR, RF) among them, which had better performance as the base classifiers to form the stacking heterogeneous ensemble method to build the vulnerability prediction model. Finally, the proposed method was verified on buffer overflow vulnerability and resource management vulnerability datasets, with a lowest false positive rate and false negative rate which can reach 1.58% and 4.06%, respectively.

The increasing demands of electronic devices and electric transportation necessitate lithium-ion batteries with simultaneous high energy and power capabilities. However, rate capabilities are often limited in high-loading electrodes due to the lengthy and tortuous ion transport paths with their electrochemical behaviors governed by complicated electrode architectures still elusive. Here, we report the electrode-level tortuosity engineering design enabling improved charge storage kinetics in high-energy electrodes. Both high areal capacity and high-rate capability can be achieved beyond the practical level of mass loadings in electrodes with vertically oriented architectures. The electrochemical properties in electrodes with various architectures were quantitatively investigated through correlating the characteristic time with tortuosity. The lithium-ion transport kinetics regulated by electrode architectures was further studied via combining the three-dimensional electrode architecture visualization and simulation. The tortuosity-controlled charge storage kinetics revealed in this study can be extended to general electrode systems and provide useful design consideration for next-generation high-energy/power batteries.

Infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is a highly morbid complication of acute necrotising pancreatitis (ANP). Since there is evidence of early-onset immunosuppression in acute pancreatitis, immune enhancement may be a therapeutic option. This trial aimed to evaluate whether early immune-enhancing Thymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) treatment reduces the incidence of IPN in patients with predicted severe ANP.We conducted a multicentre, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial involving ANP patients with an Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score ≥ 8 and a computed tomography (CT) severity score ≥ 5 admitted within 7 days of the advent of symptoms. Enrolled patients were assigned to receive a subcutaneous injection of Tα1 1.6 mg every 12 h for the first 7 days and 1.6 mg once a day for the subsequent 7 days or matching placebos (normal saline). The primary outcome was the development of IPN during the index admission.A total of 508 patients were randomised, of whom 254 were assigned to receive Tα1 and 254 placebo. The vast majority of the participants required admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) (479/508, 94.3%). During the index admission, 40/254(15.7%) patients in the Tα1 group developed IPN compared with 46/254 patients (18.1%) in the placebo group (difference -2.4% [95% CI - 7.4 to 5.1%]; p = 0.48). The results were similar across four predefined subgroups. There was no difference in other major complications, including new-onset organ failure (10.6% vs. 15%), bleeding (6.3% vs. 3.5%), and gastrointestinal fistula (2% vs. 2.4%).The immune-enhancing Tα1 treatment of patients with predicted severe ANP did not reduce the incidence of IPN during the index admission.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a manifestation of the metabolic syndrome in the liver, and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) represents its advanced stage. Bicyclol has protective activity against NAFLD in mice; however, the effect of bicyclol on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NASH and its underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown particularly anti-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and autophagic machinery potentials. Therefore, the present study was performed to investigate the protective effect and underlying mechanisms of bicyclol action on NAFLD/NASH.Mice were fed an HFD to induce NAFLD/NASH, and bicyclol was administered as a treatment. Biochemistry and histopathological assays were performed to evaluate the effects of bicyclol on NAFLD/NASH. Moreover, the levels of hepatic ER stress- and autophagy-related markers were determined by western blotting.The present results revealed that bicyclol exerted significant protective effects against HFD-induced NAFLD/NASH. This activity was evidenced by the decrease in elevated serum transaminase and hepatic triglyceride levels, and the attenuation of negative histopathological changes. Bicyclol considerably alleviated hepatic inflammation and apoptosis. The protein expression of ER stress-related markers, including C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP) and glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), was downregulated by the bicyclol treatment in HFD-induced mice. However, the protein expression of autophagy-related markers (LC3 and Beclin 1) was upregulated by the treatment with bicyclol.Bicyclol protected HFD-induced NASH, and partly due to its ability of reducing ER stress and promoting autophagy.

Surface tension becomes the main force influencing the gas-liquid interface in microgravity environment. The instability of the gas-liquid distribution is a menace for spacecraft missions. Passive phase separation based on porous material is a promising technique for microgravity liquid management and advanced life support systems. Here, the mechanism of pressure-driven phase separation based on porous material is experimentally investigated, highlighting the synergistic influence of single-phase flow, breakthrough failure, and self-healing ability on liquid acquisition capability. The major parameters characterizing the separation efficiency are the breakthrough threshold pressure and the flow resistance. A fabrication strategy which elicits the surface wettability and maintains the original surface morphology is proposed and verified to increase the critical breakthrough threshold pressure without introducing extra flow resistance. Moreover, the modified mesh is integrated into a screen channel liquid acquisition device. Background/purpose Patients with periodontal disease have higher dental fear levels, which may have negative effects on their clinical outcome during scaling and root planing (SRP). The present study used the new classification of periodontitis and validated questionnaires to assess the relationship among dental fear, SRP pain and periodontal status. Materials and methods A total of 120 periodontitis patients were enrolled and staging according to the new classification of periodontitis. SRP was performed, and the visual analog scale (VAS) to assess pain was used with every patient after treatment. Questionnaires, including Corah's Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS), Dental Fear Survey (DFS), and short-form Dental Anxiety Inventory (S-DAI) were implemented from the first attendance and subsequent visits after 6 months. The patients were grouped by DAS scores. The statistical analysis was performed using T-test, chi-square, Pearson and Spearman correlative analysis. Results Compared to pre-SRP treatment, the dental fear level on DFS was decreased in the posttreatment period for all periodontitis stages. There were no statistically significant differences in S-DAI and DAS between pretreatment and posttreatment periods in stage I and II; meanwhile, there were statistically differences in stage III and IV. The correlation among periodontitis stages, VAS and dental fear level was significant. The proportion of high periodontitis stages was increased in high dental fear group. Conclusion SRP can reduce dental fear levels in all periodontitis stages, especially in stage III and IV. Correlations exist among periodontal status, dental fear and SRP pain. High dental fear is associated with poor periodontal status.

With the rapid increase of the demand for the Internet of Things (IoT), spectrum resources have incremental challenges. Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and spectrum sensing (SS) are considered key candidate technologies for next-generation wireless communications to improve spectrum utilization. Nevertheless, using both technologies at the same time makes the system more complex and brings new challenges to user differentiation. In order to make better use of these advantages, we creatively propose a feature detection-based SS method for NOMA systems. To better distinguish the relationship between the presence or absence of signals from different NOMA users, we employ feature detection to obtain the feature values of each user. We propose workflows and transceiver architectures combining the two technologies. Based on the relationship among users' priorities, power, and transmission in common scenarios, we design a downlink mode and two uplink modes and deduce the threshold settings of the corresponding modes. Meanwhile, we also customarily propose enhanced algorithms, to have a marked increase in the performance for the proposed method in various modes. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed technique is feasible and has prominent detection performance and satisfying throughput performance.

PurposeThe present paper constructed a new framework for government data governance based on the concept of a data middle platform to elicit the detailed requirements and functionalities of a government data governance framework.Design/methodology/approachFollowing a three-cycle activity, the design science research (DSR) paradigm was used to develop design propositions. The design propositions are obtained based on a systematic literature review of government data governance and data governance frameworks. Cases and experts further assessed the effectiveness of the implementation of the artifacts.FindingsThe study developed an effective framework for government data governance that supported the digital service needs of the government. The results demonstrated the advantages of the framework in adapting to organizational operations and data, realized the value of data assets, improved data auditing and oversight and facilitated communication. From the collection of data to the output of government services, the framework adapted to the new characteristics of digital government.Originality/valueKnowledge of the “data middle platforms” generated in this study provides new knowledge to the design of government data governance frameworks and helps translate design propositions into concrete capabilities. By reviewing earlier literature, the article identified the core needs and challenges of government data governance to help practitioners approach government data governance in a structured manner.

I analyze the role of infinite idealizations used in the renormalization group (RG hereafter) method in explaining universality across microscopically different physical systems in critical phenomena. I argue that despite the reference to infinite limit systems such as systems with infinite correlation lengths during the RG process, the key to explaining universality in critical phenomena need not involve infinite limit systems. I develop my argument by introducing what I regard as the explanatorily relevant property in RG explanations: linearization* property; I then motivate and prove a proposition about the linearization* property in support of my view. As a result, infinite limit systems in RG explanations are dispensable.
