Sperm, a crucial gamete for reproduction in sexual reproduction, is generated through the proliferation, differentiation, and morphological transformations of spermatogonial stem cells within the specialized microenvironment of the testes. Replicating this environment artificially presents challenges. However, interdisciplinary advancements in physics, materials science, and cell engineering have facilitated the utilization of innovative materials, technologies, and structures for inducing in vitro sperm production. This article offers a comprehensive overview of research progress on inducing in vitro sperm production by categorizing techniques into two major systems based on matrix-based and non-matrix-based approaches, respectively. Detailed discussions are provided for both types of technology systems through comparisons of their similarities and differences, as well as research advancements. The aim is to provide researchers in this field with a comprehensive panoramic view while presenting our own perspectives and prospects.

The floral color phenotypes of Osmanthus fragrans cultivars range from light yellow to orange yellow, with ‘Yanzhi Hong’ being the only reported cultivar with a red color. However, the underlying reason for this unique floral coloration remains unclear. The study conducted targeted metabolomics and transcriptomics analyses on the petals of ‘Yanzhi Hong’ at both initial and peak flowering stages. Candidate gene expression was validated, and expression levels of the petals of three cultivars were compared using RT-qPCR. The results revealed the presence of 27 components in the petals of ‘Yanzhi Hong’, including 5 carotenoids, 8 xanthophylls, and 14 xanthophyll esters. Notably, lycopene was detected in abundance for the first time in O. fragrans cultivars. Carotenes accounted for 78.82 ± 3.17% and 91.19 ± 1.69% of the total carotenoid content in petals during the initial and peak flowering stages, respectively, with all carotene contents increasing during the peak flowering period. β-carotene, lycopene, and γ-carotene were identified as the top three carotene components in petals during both initial and full flowering stages. The unique blush red color of ‘Yanzhi Hong’ petals could be attributed to the low content of α-carotene and the rich accumulation of lycopene. Furthermore, a total of 1550 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in petals at the peak flowering stage relative to the initial flowering stage, with 1003 genes being downregulated and 547 genes being upregulated during the full flowering stage. There are 926 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) annotated in the Gene Ontology (GO) database. Among these DEGs, those that were downregulated and upregulated during the peak flowering period showed significant enrichment in carbohydrate metabolism and oxidation–reduction processes, respectively. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis identified 14 structural genes associated with phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and 7 structural genes linked to carotenoid biosynthesis. Expression levels of candidate genes involved in carotenoid biosynthesis were examined in the petals of three cultivars (‘Yanzhi Hong’, ‘Liuye Jingui’, and ‘Gecheng Dangui’) at both the initial and peak flowering stages. The results indicated that the decreased expression of LYG009054 (LYCE) and LYG018651 (LYCB) in ‘Yanzhi Hong’ resulted in higher lycopene accumulation and lower α-carotene content in the petals. This study offers valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the unique flower color phenotype of O. fragrans, proving a basis for further research on carotenoid metabolism pathways and the breeding of new cultivars with a variety of flower colors in O. fragrans.

The increasing global population is leading to a decline in cropland per person, aggravating food security challenges. The global implementation of land consolidation (LC) has created new farmland and increased productivity. LC is a critical strategy in China for ensuring food security and gaining significant government support. This article investigates the impact of LC on farmland productivity in Sichuan Province in 2020. We utilize time series remote sensing data to analyze LC’s impact on farmland capacity. This study uses Sentinel and Landsat satellite data to calculate CumVI and assesses the LC project’s spatiotemporal evolution. To evaluate LC’s effectiveness, we create indexes for yield level and stability and employ Getis-Ord Gi* to identify spatial differentiation in LC’s impact. GeoDetector and GWR examine the impact of natural factors like elevation, slope, soil organic carbon, and rainfall on the effectiveness of LC. The research results show that: (1) After the implementation of LC, 55.51% of the project areas experienced significant improvements in agricultural productivity; the average increase rate of yield level is 7.74%; and the average increase rate of yield stability is 12.40%. Overall, LC is significant for improving farmland capacity. (2) The effectiveness of LC exhibits spatial differences and correlations in different areas. The main location for high-value agglomeration of yield levels is Nanchong City, while the northern part of Guangyuan City primarily hosts low-value agglomeration areas. (3) Natural conditions influence LC’s effectiveness. In terms of affecting the yield level of LC, the driving factors from high to low are SOC, elevation, slope, and rainfall. In terms of affecting the yield stability of LC, the driving factors, from high to low, are elevation, SOC, slope, and rainfall. LC’s effectiveness is influenced by different natural conditions that have different effects.

The separation of cenospheres is an important method for fly ash recycling, and there is no efficient and less polluting method available for separating cenospheres. This paper proposes the dry separation of cenospheres using a cyclone separator, which utilizes the small density of cenospheres as a feature to separate them. The corresponding numerical simulations of the cyclone separator model used to separate the cenospheres were carried out by a CFD analysis, after which the size of the radius of the upper discharge opening and the height of the sloping wall of the cyclone separator were analyzed by simulation; the effect of the incident velocity on the Newton’s efficiency of the separation of the cenospheres was also analyzed. The simulation results indicate that the Newton’s efficiency can reach 0.55 when the radius of the upper feed port is 90 mm, the height of the inclined wall is 400 mm, and the incident speed is 2.5 m/s.

Abstract Exploring biomarkers interrelated the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) provides novel ideas for predicting the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) and developing new treatment strategies. We analyzed the differential gene expression levels between the high and low StromalScore and ImmuneScore groups. Neutrophil elastase (ELANE) was evaluated as a potential biomarker by conducting intersection analysis of the protein–protein interaction network and univariate Cox regression analysis. The expression of ELANE was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Its prognostic value was evaluated using Kaplan–Meier (K–M) survival curves and multivariate Cox regression analysis and its potential biological molecular mechanism was examined by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). We applied the CIBERSORT computing method to analyze the relationship between ELANE and tumor immune-infiltrating cells (TIICs). K–M survival curve showed that higher ELANE expression was closely related to shorter overall survival. The Cox regression analysis indicated that the high expression of ELANE was an independent prognostic risk factor in patients with GC. The GSEA revealed that genes in the ELANE high-expression group were involved in the signaling pathways regulating immune response; genes in the ELANE low-expression group were involved in the signaling pathways that regulate metabolism. ELANE might be participate in the change of TIME from immunodominant to metabolically dominant and its expression was closely related to tumor mutation burden and multiple TIICs. ELANE is a potential biomarker for predicting the GC patients’ survival and prognosis. It influences the tumor immune cell infiltration in the TIME, and affects the TIME to maintain their immune status.

Abstract Background Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory disease of the colon that is characterized by mucosal ulcers. Given its increasing prevalence worldwide, it is imperative to develop safe and effective drugs for treating UC. Emodin, a natural anthraquinone derivative present in various medicinal herbs, has demonstrated therapeutic effects against UC. However, low bioavailability due to poor water solubility limits its clinical applications. Methods Emodin-borate nanoparticles (EmB) were synthesized to improve drug solubility, and they modified with oligomeric mannitol into microgels (EmB-MO) for targeted delivery to intestinal macrophages that express mannose receptors. UC was induced in a mouse model using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), and different drug formulations were administered to the mice via drinking water. The levels of inflammation-related factors in the colon tissues and fecal matter were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Intestinal permeability was evaluated using fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran. HE staining, in vivo imaging, real-time PCR, and western blotting were performed to assess intestinal barrier dysfunction. Results Both EmB and EmB-MO markedly alleviated the symptoms of UC, including body weight loss, stool inconsistency, and bloody stools and restored the levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. However, the therapeutic effects of EmB-MO on the macroscopic and immunological indices were stronger than those of EmB and similar to those of 5-aminosalicylic acid. Furthermore, EmB-MO selectively accumulated in the inflamed colon epithelium and restored the levels of the gut barrier proteins such as ZO-1 and Occludin. Conclusions EmB-MO encapsulation significantly improved water solubility, which translated to greater therapeutic effects on the immune balance and gut barrier function in mice with DSS-induced UC. Our findings provide novel insights into developing emodin-derived drugs for the management of UC.

Abstract Studies of vacancy-mediated anomalous transport properties have flourished in diverse fields since these properties endow solid materials with fascinating photoelectric, ferroelectric, and spin-electric behaviors. Although phononic and electronic transport underpin the physical origin of thermoelectrics, vacancy has only played a stereotyped role as a scattering center. Here we reveal the multifunctionality of vacancy in tailoring the transport properties of an emerging thermoelectric material, defective n-type ZrNiBi. The phonon kinetic process is mediated in both propagating velocity and relaxation time: vacancy-induced local soft bonds lower the phonon velocity while acoustic-optical phonon coupling, anisotropic vibrations, and point-defect scattering induced by vacancy shorten the relaxation time. Consequently, defective ZrNiBi exhibits the lowest lattice thermal conductivity among the half-Heusler family. In addition, a vacancy-induced flat band features prominently in its electronic band structure, which is not only desirable for electron-sufficient thermoelectric materials but also interesting for driving other novel physical phenomena. Finally, better thermoelectric performance is established in a ZrNiBi-based compound. Our findings not only demonstrate a promising thermoelectric material but also promote the fascinating vacancy-mediated anomalous transport properties for multidisciplinary explorations.

Abstract Objectives Vaccination is an important part of public health services. We aim to assess the efficiency of vaccination services in Beijing, the capital of China, and to further study the influencing factors of efficiency. Methods Using the immunization service data of Beijing, China in 2020, we firstly developed a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model to calculate the score of vaccination efficiency. Secondly, we used DEA model scenario simulations with different combinations of input–output factors to derive the magnitude of the effect of each input factor on the efficiency. Finally, combined with the data from the Beijing Regional Statistical Yearbook 2021, we developed the Tobit model to examine the effect of external social environmental factors on efficiency. Results The average scores of efficiency of POVs (Point of Vaccination) in different areas of Beijing vary greatly. Different input factors had different degrees of positive effects on the efficiency score. In addition, the number of populations served by POV was positively associated with efficiency, the GDP and financial allocation of the POVs’ district was also positively associated with efficiency score, while the total dependency ratio of the POVs’ district was negatively associated with efficiency score. Conclusion The efficiency of vaccination services varied considerably across POVs. Constrained by limited resources, efficiency scores can be increased by increasing input factors that have a larger impact on efficiency score and reducing those that have a smaller impact on efficiency. In addition, the social environment should be considered in allocating vaccination resources, and more resources should be invested in areas with low levels of economic development, low financial allocation, and high population.

By combining molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) synthesized using a facile hydrothermal method with copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs), copper-ion-modified molybdenum disulfide probes (Cu-MoS2 QDs) were obtained, enabling sensitive detection and specific recognition of tetracycline (TET). The synthesized probes were characterized using techniques such as fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The fluorescence values of the probes and TET after their reaction at different concentrations were used to calculate a detection limit of 30 nM for the synthesized probes. The recovery rate of actual samples reached a high value of 95.70%, with a relative standard deviation below 2.00%, demonstrating excellent accuracy and precision. The probe exhibited high selectivity towards TET. The accuracy is maximized when the concentration of the probe is 4.50 × 10−5 mol/L, indicating enhanced performance of the molybdenum disulfide probe after copper ion modification and obtaining favorable detection outcomes. This probe holds great potential in enhancing the safety of animal-derived food, ensuring public health, and preserving water resources.

Abstract Occupational exposure to extreme high temperatures and the increasing global temperatures necessitates a deeper understanding of the impact of heat exposure on human health. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of monocytes and neutrophils to heat exposure in occupational population remain to be fully elucidated. This study used longitudinal transcriptome to assess the impact of acute heat exposure (50°C for 30 min) in 10 subjects from a mine rescue team before acute heat exposure (baseline) and at 5 min, 30 min, 1 h, and 24 h after acute heat exposure (recovery). The time‐series analysis revealed a coordinated molecular choreography of changes involving inflammation, coagulation, extracellular matrix, and energy metabolism. Importantly, the study characterized the inflammatory signature associated with heat exposure in monocytes and neutrophils, as evidenced by the rapid activation of the inflammation‐related transcriptome following heat exposure. Additionally, we pinpointed potential regulators, such as NR4A1, FOSL1, EGR3, and ATF3. In summary, the study suggested that the initial response to heat stress in monocytes and neutrophils from mine rescue team member was primarily characterized by a pro‐inflammatory stress response, which could potentially lead to the development of inflammation and ultimately result in a systemic inflammatory response in heatstroke.

BackgroundHER2-positive molecular breast cancer subtypes are characterized by high aggressiveness and malignancy, and their metastasis and mortality rates are among the highest of all types of breast cancer. The use of anti-HER2-targeted agents in neoadjuvant therapy has significantly improved the prognosis of patients with HER2-positive breast cancer. In this study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of a neoadjuvant Chinese THP regimen (docetaxel, trastuzumab biosimilar TQB211 plus the pertuzumab biosimilar TQB2440 or pertuzumab) for ER/PR-negative and HER2-positive breast cancer in China.MethodAll enrolled patients received the THP regimen (T: docetaxel 75 mg/m2 per cycle; H: trastuzumab biosimilar TQB211 8 mg/kg in the first cycle and 6 mg/kg maintenance dose in cycles 2 to 4; P: pertuzumab biosimilar TQB2440 or pertuzumab 840 mg in the first cycle, maintenance dose 420 mg in cycles 2 to 4) every 3 weeks for 4 cycles. The biosimilar TQB2440 pertuzumab and pertuzumab were randomly assigned to patients. Docetaxel, TQB211, and TQB2440 were all developed by Chiatai Tianqing. The primary endpoint was the complete pathological response (pCR) in the breast, and the secondary endpoint was cardiac safety. ResultsOf the 28 eligible patients, 19 (67.9%) achieved tpCR. The tpCR rate was higher than in the NeoSphere trial (pCR63.2%) and the PEONY study (tpCR52.5%). The adverse events that occurred most frequently were leukopenia and neutropenia, with incidence rates of 82.1% and 75.0%, respectively. Of these, grade 3 leukopenia and neutropenia occupied 46.4% and 35.7%. Other grade 3 or higher adverse events were bone marrow suppression (7.1%), lymphopenia (3.6%), and anemia (3.6%). There were no events of heart failure in patients and no patient died during the neoadjuvant phase. ConclusionDomestic dual-target HP has a more satisfactory efficacy and safety in the neoadjuvant phase of treatment.Clinical trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05985187, NCT05985187.

BackgroundLINC00324 is a long-stranded non-coding RNA, which is aberrantly expressed in various cancers and is associated with poor prognosis and clinical features. It involves multiple oncogenic molecular pathways affecting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. However, the expression, function, and mechanism of LINC00324 in glioma have not been reported.Material and methodsWe assessed the expression of LINC00324 of LINC00324 in glioma patients based on data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) to identify pathways involved in LINC00324-related glioma pathogenesis.ResultsBased on our findings, we observed differential expression of LINC00324 between tumor and normal tissues in glioma patients. Our analysis of overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) indicated that glioma patients with high LINC00324 expression had a poorer prognosis compared to those with low LINC00324 expression. By integrating clinical data and genetic signatures from TCGA patients, we developed a nomogram to predict OS and DSS in glioma patients. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) revealed that several pathways, including JAK/STAT3 signaling, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, STAT5 signaling, NF-κB activation, and apoptosis, were differentially enriched in glioma samples with high LINC00324 expression. Furthermore, we observed significant correlations between LINC00324 expression, immune infiltration levels, and expression of immune checkpoint-related genes (HAVCR2: r = 0.627, P = 1.54e-77; CD40: r = 0.604, P = 1.36e-70; ITGB2: r = 0.612, P = 6.33e-7; CX3CL1: r = -0.307, P = 9.24e-17). These findings highlight the potential significance of LINC00324 in glioma progression and suggest avenues for further research and potential therapeutic targets.ConclusionIndeed, our results confirm that the LINC00324 signature holds promise as a prognostic predictor in glioma patients. This finding opens up new possibilities for understanding the disease and may offer valuable insights for the development of targeted therapies.

The rapid development of global urbanization and industrialization not only promotes a significant improvement in the level of socio-economic development, but also exacerbates the complexity and vulnerability of regional land resource utilization, resulting in frequent land use conflicts and seriously constraining the sustainable development of regional socio-economic and ecological environment. Taking Funan County as an example, based on interpretation data of Landsat TM/ETM remote sensing image data from 1980 to 2020, this paper analyses the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of land use conflict in Funan County from 1980 to 2020 using the ArcGIS spatial analysis method, land use conflict measurement model, geographically weighted regression and geographical detector and then deeply analyses the main factors affecting land use conflict in Funan County and its driving mechanisms. In descending order, land use types undergoing the most change include cultivated land, urban and rural construction land, grassland, forestland and water area. The results of land use change are mainly the occupation of cultivated land by construction land, water area and forestland. Overall land use conflict in Funan County is serious with approximately 80 % of land use in the county in conflict, the severe land use conflict is mostly concentrated in urban and township built-up areas, and there is an increase trend year by year. Land use conflict is the result of multiple factors. Policy, economic development, and the social population and natural environment are the key driving factors behind land use conflict, which have a significant impact on the direction, location, scale and rate of land use transfer.Accurately identifying regional land use changes and conflicts and exploring the driving mechanism behind land use conflicts are of great significance for achieving the sustainable development of regional social economies and ecological environments.

ABSTRACTThe severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination service system lacks standardized indicators to assess resource allocation. Moreover, data on specific vaccination-promoting measures is limited. This study aimed to evaluate vaccination accessibility and capacity and investigate convenience-related factors in China during the Omicron variant epidemic. We collected information on SARS-CoV-2 vaccination services among vaccination sites in Beijing. Analysis was performed using nearest neighbor, Ripley’s K, hot spot analysis, and generalized estimating equations. Overall, 299 vaccination sites were included. The demand for the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine increased with the increase in daily new cases, and the number of staff administering vaccines should be increased in urban areas at the beginning of the epidemic. Abstract Wildlife is reservoir of emerging viruses. Here we identified 27 families of mammalian viruses from 1981 wild animals and 194 zoo animals collected from south China between 2015 and 2022, isolated and characterized the pathogenicity of eight viruses. Bats harbor high diversity of coronaviruses, picornaviruses and astroviruses, and a potentially novel genus of Bornaviridae. In addition to the reported SARSr-CoV-2 and HKU4-CoV-like viruses, picornavirus and respiroviruses also likely circulate between bats and pangolins. Pikas harbor a new clade of Embecovirus and a new genus of arenaviruses. Further, the potential cross-species transmission of RNA viruses (paramyxovirus and astrovirus) and DNA viruses (pseudorabies virus, porcine circovirus 2, porcine circovirus 3 and parvovirus) between wildlife and domestic animals was identified, complicating wildlife protection and the prevention and control of these diseases in domestic animals. This study provides a nuanced view of the frequency of host-jumping events, as well as assessments of zoonotic risk.

Abstract Background Among six extant tiger subspecies, the South China tiger (Panthera tigris amoyensis) once was widely distributed but is now the rarest one and extinct in the wild. All living South China tigers are descendants of only two male and four female wild-caught tigers and they survive solely in zoos after 60 years of effective conservation efforts. Inbreeding depression and hybridization with other tiger subspecies were believed to have occurred within the small, captive South China tiger population. It is therefore urgently needed to examine the genomic landscape of existing genetic variation among the South China tigers. Results In this study, we assembled a high-quality chromosome-level genome using long-read sequences and re-sequenced 29 high-depth genomes of the South China tigers. By combining and comparing our data with the other 40 genomes of six tiger subspecies, we identified two significantly differentiated genomic lineages among the South China tigers, which harbored some rare genetic variants introgressed from other tiger subspecies and thus maintained a moderate genetic diversity. We noticed that the South China tiger had higher F ROH values for longer runs of homozygosity (ROH > 1 Mb), an indication of recent inbreeding/founder events. We also observed that the South China tiger had the least frequent homozygous genotypes of both high- and moderate-impact deleterious mutations, and lower mutation loads than both Amur and Sumatran tigers. Altogether, our analyses indicated an effective genetic purging of deleterious mutations in homozygous states from the South China tiger, following its population contraction with a controlled increase in inbreeding based on its pedigree records. Conclusions The identification of two unique founder/genomic lineages coupled with active genetic purging of deleterious mutations in homozygous states and the genomic resources generated in our study pave the way for a genomics-informed conservation, following the real-time monitoring and rational exchange of reproductive South China tigers among zoos.

Radiation protection drugs are often accompanied by toxicity, even amifostine, which has been the dominant radio-protecting drug for nearly 30 years. Furthermore, there is no therapeutic drug for radiation-induced intestinal injury (RIII). This paper intends to find a safe and effective radio-protecting ingredient from natural sources. The radio-protecting effect of Ecliptae Herba (EHE) was discovered preliminarily by antioxidant experiments and the mouse survival rate after 137Cs irradiation. EHE components and blood substances in vivo were identified through UPLC‒Q-TOF. The correlation network of “natural components in EHE-constituents migrating to blood–targets-pathways” was established to predict the active components and pathways. The binding force between potential active components and targets was studied by molecular docking, and the mechanism was further analyzed by Western blotting, cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA), and ChIP. Additionally, the expression levels of Lgr5, Axin2, Ki67, lysozyme, caspase-3, caspase-8,8-OHdG, and p53 in the small intestine of mice were detected. It was found for the first time that EHE is active in radiation protection and that luteolin is the material basis of this protection. Luteolin is a promising candidate for RⅢ. Luteolin can inhibit the p53 signaling pathway and regulate the BAX/BCL2 ratio in the process of apoptosis. Luteolin could also regulate the expression of multitarget proteins related to the same cell cycle.

Abstract Supply‐demand coordination optimization of hydrogen‐based multi‐energy system provides an effective way to improve the overall energy utilization efficiency and mitigate the challenges of energy and environmental crisis for industrial park. However, the uncertainties of energy supply and demand and the time coupling caused by storage system bring great challenges for energy efficiency and feasibility of strategy. To address the supply‐demand coordination problem, a scenario‐based operation optimization model of hydrogen‐based multi‐energy system is formulated. In this model, grey hydrogen, green hydrogen, and renewable energy are coordinated. Furthermore, in order to formulate the hard constraints of the gas storage, the robust constraints with adjustable robust parameters are added to make a trade‐off between feasibility and economy of operation strategy. The robust constraints are non‐linear, time‐coupled, dynamic and infinite dimensional and bring high computational complexity. Thus, the analytical solutions of the worst case are developed under the polyhedral budget constraints to transform the model into a mixed integer linear programming which can be efficiently solved. Finally, numerical test based on a real case is analysed and the results show that supply‐demand coordination can reduce the energy cost about 11.29% and energy storage system can significantly improve the flexibility of system.

Malaria is one of the major global health threats. Microscopic examination has been designated as the “gold standard” for malaria detection by the World Health Organization. However, it heavily relies on the experience of doctors, resulting in long diagnosis time, low efficiency, and a high risk of missed or misdiagnosed cases. To alleviate the pressure on healthcare workers and achieve automated malaria detection, numerous target detection models have been applied to the blood smear examination for malaria cells. This paper introduces the multi-level attention split network (MAS-Net) that improves the overall detection performance by addressing the issues of information loss for small targets and mismatch between the detection receptive field and target size. Therefore, we propose the split contextual attention structure (SPCot), which fully utilizes contextual information and avoids excessive channel compression operations, reducing information loss and improving the overall detection performance of malaria cells. In the shallow detection layer, we introduce the multi-scale receptive field detection head (MRFH), which better matches targets of different scales and provides a better detection receptive field, thus enhancing the performance of malaria cell detection. On the NLM—Malaria Dataset provided by the National Institutes of Health, the improved model achieves an average accuracy of 75.9% in the public dataset of Plasmodium vivax (malaria)-infected human blood smear. Considering the practical application of the model, we introduce the Performance-aware Approximation of Global Channel Pruning (PAGCP) to compress the model size while sacrificing a small amount of accuracy. Compared to other state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods, the proposed MAS-Net achieves competitive results.

Ficus carica Linn. is an important economic tree species with high developmental prospects and scientific research for edible and medicinal value. The F. carica chloroplast genome has recently been reported; however, the mitochondrial genome is still unexplored. We assembled the complete mitogenome of F. carica using reads from PacBio Biosciences sequencing platforms. The circular mitogenome F. carica has a length of 480,902 base pairs (bp), which contain 46 genes, including 27 protein-coding genes, 16 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and three ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The base composition, codon usage, sequence repeats, RNA editing, and selective pressure were examined. We also conducted the phylogenetic analysis based on the mitogenomes of F. carica and 21 other taxa to know the evolutionary and taxonomic status of F. carica. Our analyses provided comprehensive information on the F. carica mitochondrial genome, which would facilitate evolutionary research in other fruit trees in the future.

Abstract The management of infected wounds is still an intractable challenge in clinic. Development of antibacterial wound dressing is of great practical significance for wound management. Herein, a natural‐derived antibacterial drug, tannic acid (TA), was incorporated into the electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber (TA/PVA fiber, 952 ± 40 nm in diameter). TA worked as a cross‐linker via hydrogen bonding with PVA to improve the physicochemical properties of the fiber and to reach a sustained drug release (88% release of drug at 48 h). Improved mechanical property (0.8–1.2 MPa) and computational simulation validated the formation of the hydrogen bonds between TA and PVA. Moreover, the antibacterial and anti‐inflammatory characteristics of TA laid the foundation for the application of TA/PVA fiber in repairing infected wounds. Meanwhile, in vitro studies proved the high hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility of TA/PVA fiber. Further in vivo animal investigation showed that the TA/PVA fiber promoted the repair of infected wound by inhibiting the bacterial growth, promoting granulation formation, and collagen matrix deposition, accelerating angiogenesis, and inducing M2 macrophage polarization within 14 days. All the data demonstrated that the TA cross‐linked fiber would be a potent dressing for bacteria‐infected wound healing.

In this work, suitable band gap width, strong photo-response to visible light, and a high photogenerated carrier density offered by an important member of layered sulfides, SnS2, were kept in view for designing and producing a highly effective photocatalyst for CO2 reduction. Hence, SnS2/CeO2 heterojunction composite photocatalysts were triumphally fabricated by a facile in situ hydrothermal synthesis method, combining advantages of the built-in electric field and oxygen vacancies of two materials. Various characterization techniques were exploited to scrutinize the photocatalyst’s structure and confirm that the carrier transport efficiency and photocatalytic performance are enhanced by the synergistic impact of the heterojunction structure and presence of oxygen vacancies. Owing to the successful loading of zero-dimensional CeO2 nanoparticles onto two-dimensional SnS2 nanosheets, the 2D/0D structure improves the photo-response range of the composites and provides faster electron transfer rates. The composite material maintained the hydrophobic characteristic of single SnS2, while inhibiting the hydrophilic property of single CeO2. As a result, CO and CH4 yields of prepared binary Z-type heterojunction photocatalysts are 24.6 and 4.4 folds higher than those of single SnS2, respectively. This innovative study will contribute to exploration of SnS2-based photocatalytic materials and provide a new feasible direction for light energy-driven CO2 reduction.
