Abstract

A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of ^{235}U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the ^{235}U spectral shape to about 3%. The ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. This is the first measurement of the ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu spectra based on the combination of experiments at low- and highly enriched uranium reactors.

125. Methodology for selection of optimum interference fit for enhancing performance of external gear pumps

Abstract

External gear pumps are the heart of mobile hydraulic equipment in the mining sectors where it requires precise control of work attachment functions, lubrication of transmissions and oil supply to steering control units. The external gear pumps encounter many tribological phenomena such as lubrication and wear of gear teeth, an inner profile of casing, wear plates, and press fitting of journal bearings. The major challenge involved during the design phase is the optimum selection of required interference dimensions between the shaft plain bushings and its housings such as bracket and covers. Though the analytical calculations provide some rough initial sizes, it is a time consuming and tedious process when it comes to different material combinations, non-uniform and unsymmetrical sections of brackets and housings. Also, it is difficult to include the effect of thermal variations and different surface finish conditions of mating surfaces in analytical calculations. Optimum interference dimensions are essential to avoid premature failure of the Pumps due to dislodging of the bushings. In the current study, the required initial interference fit dimensions are computed based on an analytical method for different materials combinations. Further, the effect of the surface finish of mating surfaces and thermal expansion of materials are studied using KISSsoft simulation. The validation of the same has been carried out using an experimental set up with different material and assembly conditions as a comparative study to find the optimum dimensions.

Abstract

The extensive discomfort in the expulsion of toxic pollutants even at mild concentrations has demanded the need for prompt methods for the evacuation of dyes and heavy metals. The effective method for depuration of dye from the effluent is by sorption. Chitosan is a bio‐polymer which is gaining an increasing interest as one of the sorbents. It was obtained from the crab shells by undergoing several chemical processes and used as an adsorbent for dye, metal removal and also for pharmaceutical purposes. Cross linking it with other co polymers will increase the capacity of adsorption to a maximum level. Fish scales are considered to be a major waste in the food industry and since it takes a long time for decomposing it is considered to be one of the pollutants. Hence it is utilised by converting it into activated carbon by preliminary treatment and into a muffle furnace. The obtained activated carbon is combined with chitosan by using a cross linker and utilised for adsorption mechanism. To analyse the effect of chitosan cross linked with activated carbon obtained from fish scales in adsorption of dye Reactive Blue 9 (RB9) to evaluate the adsorption studies, kinetics, mass transfer studies, thermodynamics of the bio adsorbent.

Abstract

A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of ²³⁵U and ²³⁹Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of ²³⁵U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant ²³⁵U and ²³⁹Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the ²³⁵U spectral shape to about 3%. The ²³⁵U and ²³⁹Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. This is the first measurement of the ²³⁵U and ²³⁹Pu spectra based on the combination of experiments at low- and highly enriched uranium reactors.

Abstract

Normally, a health issue or an emergency needs to viewed in a multidisciplinary approach. And, thus a standard sensor-based diagnosis in the medical field, requires a greater number of sensors and human efforts if it’s processed on a large scale. To overcome this issue an IoT-based health care application is proposed in this research work. The proposed system consists of an online mobile application that supports continuous wireless monitoring of patients. The Main aim of the paper is to implement a low-cost system and send the patient vital parameters in case of emergency situations. Sensors such as ECG Monitor sensor, Heart Rate sensor, and temperature sensor are used to quantify the patient vital signs. The sensor data are collected and transferred to the cloud for storage of the IoT platform via a module which is connected to the micro controller. The information is processed within the cloud and the appropriate feedback steps are taken on the analyzed data which may be further analyzed by a doctor remotely in person. Remote viewing reduces the burden to doctors and also provides the precise health status of patients. If the patient needs urgent attention, then a message alerts is sent to the care taker or doctor. This kind of mechanism helps in taking precautions beforehand and also helps the doctor to analyze the patient in a better way. The setup is verified using simulation and various test experiments.

Abstract

In Metropolitan cities, where the amount of automobile continuously expands faster than the obtainable traffic framework to support them, congestion may be a strenuous issue to affect and it becomes much worse in case of car accidents. This problem affects many aspects of contemporary society, health damages, traffic accidents, duration spent, grow in greenhouse emissions and including economic expansion. In this context, current societies can rely on the traffic management system to diminish traffic congestion and its negative chattels. In this project, we propose a traffic management system where the traffic will be monitored with all the automobiles on the road. We will track the number of automobiles entering the signal zone and will predict the traffic is high or low. Hang on the quantity of automobiles in each signal zone, the traffic signals can be automated. So that maximum amount of duration is given to more automobiles whereas the lesser duration for some automobiles. Thus this project aims at reducing the traffic and managing the signals automatically leading to the sensor less traffic management system.
