This paper aims to help fill a gap in the literature on Li-ion battery electrode materials due to the absence of measured elastic constants needed for diffusion induced stress models. By examining results from new first principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations of LiC0O2, LiMn2O4, (and their delithiated hosts, CoO2 and MnCO2), LixAl alloys, and data from the extant literature on LiFePO4 (and FePO4), LiTi2O4 (and Li2Ti2O4). LixSi, LixSn and lihtium graphite-interaction-compounds, a compelling picture emerges on the dependency of the elastic properties on Li concentration. Specifically, three distinct categories of behavior are found: (a) the averaged Young's moduli change very minimally upon lithiation of the spinel and olivine structures; (b) lithiation induced stiffening is observed only when new and stronger bonds between the Li ions and the host materials are formed in layered compounds; and (c) for alloy-forming electrode materials, such as Si, β-Sn and Al, the averaged Young's moduli of lithiated compounds follow the linear rule of mixtures. The tendency of ductile or brittle behavior electrode materials is investigated with the Pugh criterion, and a ductile to brittle transition was found to occur during lithiation of Al and β-Sn, but not in Si. The purpose of this study was to determine the average time school children spend on computers and electronic games, the positions they assume, and any associated discomfort related to their use. A twenty three-point questionnaire was distributed to 476 children in first to eighth grade from three parochial schools in one of the New York City boroughs. The findings of this study suggest that children use the computer and electronic games differently than adults and that more boys than girls engage in electronic game playing. Results clearly indicated that children are experiencing discomfort from the use of computers or electronic games, and that the discomfort is largely concentrated in the neck region. Occupational therapy could be instrumental in terms of educating the children, their parents/guardians, and their teachers on proper body mechanics, applications of ergonomically suited workstations, and the use of rest/stretch breaks while engaged in computing and electronic game playing. Pre-incubation with anticholera toxin (ACT) significantly reduced intestinal secretion induced by cell-free broth preparations of heat-labile toxins (LT) of Escherichia coli and Aeromonas hydrophila in jejunal perfusion experiments in rats in vivo. Pre-incubation with ACT also prevented cytotoxicity by E. coli LT in the Yl cell culture system. Pre-incubation had no effect on cytotoxicity in YI and LI32 cell lines or on haemolytic activity with cell-free preparations of A. hydrophila. In another series of experiments rats were immunized with cholera toxin given as an intraperitoneal priming dose followed 12 days later by intraduodenal boosting. Immunization significantly protected against net intestinal fluid secretion induced by enterotoxigenic E. coli and A. hydrophila and by cholera toxin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As black holes gravitationally draw matter toward their event horizons, a high proportion of this matter is converted into energy. Radiation from this conversion process is deadly for advanced life. The apparent incompatibility of black holes with advanced life raises a problem for Christians and other theists who believe that God planned the rise of advanced life on Earth. Yet additional scientific data may help to resolve this apparent problem. This article argues that a universe with the mass and laws and constants of physics to make advanced life possible will inevitably produce black holes, and this is good news. When the most massive stars and merging neutron stars become black holes, they manufacture elements heavier than iron. Eight of these r-process elements appear essential for advanced life; the remainder appear essential for enduring life and for advanced civilization. Moreover, though black holes produce deadly radiation in all known regions of the universe where advanced life is conceivable, our solar system is protected from this deadly radiation. By apparent fine-tuning, we live in a uniquely safe and uniquely provisioned location. The main objective of this study is to determine the media image of dispensation and liturgy mediated during the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland. The paper is based on interdisciplinary methodology, which combines elements of practical theology (the see–judge–act paradigm) and a communication and media studies approach (media content analysis, critical discourse analysis). The time range of the analysed media discourse is between 12 and 18 March 2020, which was the first week after issuing government restrictions towards liturgy and the Church's response to that: granting the dispensation and supporting the mediatisation of liturgy. The material for the discourse analysis includes online editions of 20 Polish press titles. It occurs that the general attitude of the media towards dispensation and liturgy mediated was positive, but some media tended to present the topics according to their editorial policies. The paper also formulates a theological reflection: although liturgy mediated as a permanent solution could be challenging to accept, it allowed worshippers to experience the liturgy in times of isolation. It is, therefore, an expression of the Church's concern for the health and lives of the faithful, although not entirely in line with the official and long-standing position of the Church towards the mediatisation of the liturgy.
