101. Effect of Aluminum Source on Hydrothermal Synthesis of High-Silica Mordenite in Fluoride Medium, and It's Thermal Stability

Abstract

Effect of an aluminum source on the direct hydrothermal synthesis of high-silica mordenite-type zeolite in the presence of tetraethylammonium and fluoride ions was investigated. Highly crystalline MOR-type zeolites with a Si/Al ratio of approximately 30 were successfully prepared using Al(NO3)3 as an aluminum source. To clarify the role of fluoride ions, NaF as a fluoride source was added in the course of crystallization process. It was found that the crystallinity and the Si/Al ratio of MOR-type zeolite do not depend on the addition time of NaF. However, the content of fluorine in the as-synthesized zeolite decreased markedly when NaF was added in the course of crystallization process. The decrease in fluorine content improved considerably the thermal stability of the as-synthesized MOR-type zeolite.

102. Characteristics of MOR-Framework Zeolites Synthesized in Fluoride-Containing Media and Related Ordered Distribution of Al Atoms in the Framework

Abstract

MOR type zeolites with Si/Al ratios of 5.19−9.00 have been synthesized in the presence of fluoride ion (denoted by MS-F). Although MS-F has the same framework topology as conventionally synthesized mordenite (MS-C), the characteristics of MS-F, such as crystal morphology, adsorptivity for benzene and thermal stability, are quite different from MS-C. Solid-state 29Si MAS NMR measurements revealed that the number of Si atoms with a Si(2Al) environment in MS-F is less than that in MS-C of the same Si/Al ratio. Based upon the results of NMR measurements and those of benzene sorption and thermal stability, the ordered distribution of Al atoms in the framework of MS-F was determined by using the connectivity-configuration matrixes method under the restriction of Loewenstein's rule and the 2Al/5-ring avoidance rule. It is suggested that Al atoms are located at T1, T2, and T4 sites in MS-F, which is different from the case of MS-C occupying T1, T2, T3, and T4 sites. The differences in the characteristics between MS-F and MS-C can be explained by the different distribution of Al atoms in their framework.

106. Two-pion-exchange model for π+N→N*+π and the second π-N resonance

Abstract

For the lower-energy π+N→N*+π reaction, it is shown that the exchange of two-pion system (or the system of evenGparity) with isotopic spin 2 and angular momentum 0 might become important. It is also shown that, if this is actually the case, then the reaction occurs predominantly from theT=1/2,d3/2state of the initial πN system. Therefore, in connection with the problem of the second πN resonance, the above possibility is very interesting. Some possible experimental tests of this possibility are suggested.
