Third sound is studied for superfluid films of 4He adsorbed on multiwall carbon nanotubes packed into an annular resonator. The third sound is generated with mechanical oscillation of the cell, and detected with carbon bolometers. A filling curve at temperatures near 250 mK shows oscillations in the third sound velocity, with maxima at the completion of the 4th and 5th atomic layers. Sharp changes in the Q factor of the third sound are found at partial layer fillings. Temperature sweeps at a number of fill points show strong broadening effects on the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) transition, and rapidly increasing dissipation, in qualitative agreement with the predictions of Machta and Guyer. At the 4th layer completion there is a sudden reduction of the transition temperature TKT, and then a recovery back to linear variation with temperature, although the slope is considerably smaller than the KT prediction.

Existing metal-containing porous catalysts have inherent heterogeneity in metal species, rendering it difficult to compare reactivity across varied catalyst formulations without first developing active site quantification protocols. The supercages of faujasite zeolites (FAU) are large enough to confine metal phthalocyanines (MPCs), together serving as a well-defined active center for experimental and computational catalyst characterization. Deviations in zeolite synthesis conditions from prior literature were required to obtain phase-pure FAU. Metal perchloro-, perfluoro-, and perhydrogenated phthalocyanines (MPCCl16, MPCF16, and MPC; M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) were encapsulated into FAU zeolites via hydrothermal synthesis (MPC@FAU) and deposited onto the external surfaces by postsynthetic deposition (MPC/FAU). These MPC@FAU catalysts were tested as catalysts for CO oxidation with dioxygen at 298 K and their reactivity compared to that of silica-supported PdAu nanoparticles and cobalt–nitrogen-doped carbon (Co–N–C). Initial CO2 site time yields were greater than the analogous metal-ion-exchanged zeolites (by ∼50×). However, this initial activity decreased with time on stream for all MPC samples tested, and the cause of this deactivation is explored herein. Stable CO2 formation rates with time on stream observed over PdAu/SiO2 and Co–N–C suggest that deactivation observed over MPC@FAU samples is distinct and not an artifact of the experimental apparatus. Density functional theory calculations suggest an O2-activation mechanism, aided by the coadsorption of CO on the pyrrole N of the MPC and an axial ligand that can provide additional electron density to reduce the barrier for O2 bond breaking; this reaction mechanism is distinct from that over structurally similar metal-nitrogen-doped carbons. Nevertheless, the reactivity of MPC@FAU catalysts for gas-phase CO oxidation with dioxygen at ambient temperature indicates that they may share similar functionality to metal–nitrogen-doped carbons and have the potential to serve as model catalysts for gas-phase chemistries. Neuroinflammation plays a key role in exacerbating dopaminergic neuron (DAN) loss in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, it remains unresolved how to effectively normalize this immune response given the complex interplay between the innate and adaptive immune responses occurring within a scarcely accessible organ like the brain. In this study, we uncovered a consistent correlation between neuroinflammation, brain parenchymal lymphocytes, and DAN loss among several commonly used mouse models of PD generated by a variety of pathological triggers. We validated a viral therapeutic approach for the microglia-specific expression of interleukin 10 (IL-10) to selectively mitigate the excessive inflammatory response. We found that this approach induced a local nigral IL-10 release that alleviated DAN loss in mice overexpressing the human SNCA gene in the substantia nigra. Single-cell transcriptomics revealed that IL-10 induced the emergence of a molecularly distinct microglial cell state, enriched in markers of cell activation with enhanced expression of prophagocytic pathways. IL-10 promoted microglial phagocytotic and clearance activities in vitro and reduced αSYN aggregate burden in the nigral area in mice overexpressing SNCA. Furthermore, IL-10 stimulated the differentiation of CD4+ T lymphocytes into active T regulatory cells and promoted inhibitory characteristics in CD8+ T cells. In summary, our results show that local and microglia-specific IL-10 transduction elicited strong immunomodulation in the nigral tissue with enhanced suppression of lymphocyte toxicity that was associated with DAN survival. These results offer insights into the therapeutic benefits of IL-10 and showcase a promising gene delivery approach that could minimize undesired side effects. Using this system for lentiviral-mediated, local, and microglia-specific expression of IL-10 in PD mice led to reduced neuropathology and the emergence of microglial subtypes with enhanced clearance signatures. In this study, we analyzed the emotional and motivational aspects characterizing the profile of university students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). We assessed 61 university students, 32 with SLD (age = 23.6) and 29 in the control group (age = 23.00). The results highlighted that individuals with SLD exhibit higher levels of anxiety and depression and lower resilience compared to the control group. The Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale - Short Form, which explores perfectionism, did not reveal differences between the groups. Conversely, lower scores emerged in SLD students for the intrinsic motivation sub-scales of the Academic Motivation Scale. This indicates less engagement in studying out of personal cognitive curiosity. The Self-Regulated Knowledge Scale - University, which measures various cognitive strategies, showed significantly lower scores in the SLD group for knowledge linking, knowledge training, and knowledge critique. This suggests a lower frequency with which SLD students attempt to connect new knowledge with what they already possess, apply their knowledge, ask questions, and critically analyze what they have learned. The issue of literacy challenges among dyslexic adults remains a significant concern. This study investigates spelling deficits among highly educated adults with dyslexia learning a transparent orthography. Thirty-eight Italian dyslexic university students were examined and compared to a group of age- and education-matched typical readers. Firstly, we analyzed spelling performance using a Passage Dictation Test. Additionally, lists of words varying in length and word frequency were dictated under two experimental conditions: a normal condition (NC) and an articulatory suppression condition (ASC). The ASC assessed the participants' ability to spell with interference to the phonological (sublexical) spelling procedure, i.e., the most likely compensated spelling strategy of Italian dyslexic spellers. The results clearly indicated that, in spelling the meaningful passage, dyslexic participants underperformed compared to the controls, with a prevalence of lexical errors, despite the comparison with the normative reference data showing only mild spelling difficulties. In spelling isolated words in normal conditions, dyslexic participants performed within the reference norms and as accurately as control participants across all stimuli (short words, high- and low-frequency words), except for long words, where their spelling difficulties were evident. Articulatory suppression significantly impaired dyslexics' performance on short stimuli, reducing the usual sublexical advantage associated with them, and exacerbated misspellings on long words. Additionally, articulatory suppression disproportionately affected dyslexics' performance on high-frequency words, diminishing the typical lexical advantage associated with these words. It was proposed that a reorganization of the relationships between cognitive functions occurs in dementia, a vision that surpasses the idea of a mere decline of specific domains. The complexity of cognitive structure, as assessed by neuropsychological tests, can be captured by exploratory graph analysis (EGA). EGA was applied to the neuropsychological assessment of people (humans) with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's disease (AD; total N = 638). Both sexes were included. In AD, memory scores detach from the other cognitive functions, and memory subdomains reduce their reciprocal relation. SCD showed a pattern of segregated neuropsychological domains, and MCI showed a noisy and less stable pattern. Results suggest that AD drives a reorganization of cognitive functions toward a less-fractionated architecture compared with preclinical conditions. Cognitive functions show a reorganization that goes beyond the performance decline. Results also have clinical implications in test interpretations and usage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to examine the impact of two different post-match training interventions on the subsequent recovery of perceptual and biochemical parameters after the game. In a crossover design, eight sub-elite players underwent a soccer-specific training (SST) and an active recovery (AR) regimen on the second day after a match (+48 h). Muscle soreness as well as muscle damage (creatine kinase, CK), inflammatory (C-reactive protein and interleukin 6), immunological (e.g., lymphocytes, neutrophils, and monocytes), and endocrine (cortisol) markers were obtained at baseline (−72 h), immediately after (0 h), and 72 h post-match (+72 h). AR promoted a higher restoration of muscle soreness values (P = 0.004, η2p = 0.49) together with a better restoration of CK within 72 h post-match compared with SST (P = 0.04, η2p = 0.36). Conversely, no significant (P > 0.05, η2p < 0.91) differences were observed in the recovery timeframe of inflammatory, immunological, and endocrine responses between SST and AR. Overall, AR elicited a quicker muscle soreness and CK restoration compared to SST intervention at 72 h post-match. Such information provides novel evidence-based findings on the appropriateness of different recovery strategies and may aid to improve the practitioners’ decision-making process when two consecutive games are played within 3 days.

This paper proposes a cognitive-functional investigation of gamers’ uses of English in online communication, in order to enquire into the possibility of introducing a model that could be called COOPING (‘COOperation Principles between INternet Gamers’). COOPING was devised at the University of Salento, and it was conceived as a further development of both Grice’s maxims and Guido’s principles describing English lingua-franca uses in intercultural exchanges. The main research hypothesis is that the interactants’ awareness of the need to cooperate to reach shared targets prompts them to select a common linguistic means, which is usually a variation of English, when different linguacultural backgrounds come into contact. This paper will detail the four phases of COOPING—Evaluation, Acknowledgment, Negotiation, and Manner—which are expected to reflect the steps that players follow when they intend to cooperate in these virtual communities. Through an analysis of the selected corpus of conversations, this study will illustrate that gamers: (phases 1 and 2 of the Model) examine and evaluate the interlocutors’ behavior in order to assess their cooperative attitude; (phase 3) decide to select English when community members come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds; and (phase 4) generate conversation turns that are characterized by specific features, from authentication, to meaning negotiation, to creative and critical modifications to the standard norms, trying to pursue reciprocal understanding and communication.

Screening: early identification and prevention as a common good. This contribution aims to highlight the importance of the early screening within the learning disabilities as a common good. Specific Learning disabilities (DSAs) are due to a relative impairment of the child's ability to learn in the presence of an adequate intellectual level and in absence of neurological pathologies and sensory deficits, and limit the activities of the child’s everyday life. In the last few years, this issue has considerably increased in Italy. Concerning the Italian language, the prevalence of DSAs ranges between 3% and 4% of the developing population for the Italian language (Consensus Conference, DSAs, ISS 2011). The law 170, October 8th 2010 declares that the school has the task of detecting early suspected DSA cases. Schools represent a common good and therefore it is necessary to think about education as a promoter of equality, inclusion and equality. Screening activities in schools can play a significant role in raising awareness and in staff training, enabling not only an early recognition of DSAs, but also implementing appropriate teaching measures

Abstract A 23‐year‐old athlete with symptomatic low burden premature ventricular contraction (PVC) with left bundle branch block morphology and inferior axis morphology was sent to our department for RV mapping and PVC ablation. Exit zone of the PVC was easily and clearly defined by the bipoles A3‐A4 achieving optimal and detailed pacemapping (Panels A‐C) near the His bundle (yellow dots). The spatial conformation and the smooth shape of the catheter would definitely help everyday procedures in the setting of low burden PVC/noninducible focal ventricular arrhythmia, especially when the focus is located very close to the conductive tissue.
