Abstract

Featured Application: This work can be applied to the research and development planning or sustainable technology management. The technological keywords extracted from patent documents have much information about a developed technology. We can understand the technological structure of a product by examining the results of patent analysis. So far, much research has been done on patent data analysis. The technological keywords of patent documents contain representative information on the developed technology. As such, the patent keyword is one of the most important factors in patent data analysis. In this paper, we propose a patent data analysis model combining a integer valued time series model and copula direction dependence for integer valued patent keyword analysis over time. Most patent keywords are frequency values and keywords often change over time. However, the existing patent keywords analysis works do not account for two major factors: integer value and time. For modeling integer valued keyword data with time factor, we use a copula directional dependence model based on marginal regression with a beta logit function and integer valued generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity model. Using the proposed model, we find technological trends and relations in the target technological domain. To illustrate the performance and implication of our paper, we carry out experiments using the patent documents applied and registered by Apple company. Abstract

Near infrared spectroscopy (NIR), is recently applied to analysis of food, and it gives non-destructive and highly reproducible results. The objectives of this study were to assay protein, lipid and starch content in Alaska pollack surimi and to investigate application in seafood. NIR spectra showed the absorbance signal at 1,510 nm, 2,050 nm, 2,170 nm and 2,180 nm for protein, and signal were increased with protein content. Standard error of equation (SEE) was 0,296 and standard error of prediction (SEP) was 0.327. In analysis of lipid in Alaska pollack surimi by NIR, near infrared spectra of lyophilized Alaska pollack surimi were scanned and the signals of absorbance from C-H functional groups in lipid were identified at 1,730 nm, 1,740 nm and 2,300 nm and these signals were risen as Increasing lipid contents of Alaska pollack surimi as samely protein. SEE and SEP were 0.319, 0,353, respectively. In starch analysis using NIR the signals of starch distinctly changed at wavelength of 1,450 nm and 1,950 nm. Collected values of SEE and SEP were 0.304 and 0.318, respectively and the range of errors was in starch contents.

Abstract

This paper describes the design of a novel synthesis filter for real-time implementation of MPEG-2 audio decoder on a single, programmable DSP chip. In the first phase of our design we propose a fast subband synthesis filter bank employing a decomposed IDCT block with reduced multiplication stages, shared by both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 decoders. In the second phase of the design, a parameter analyzer block is adopted to take advantage of the multichannel computing structure in MPEG-2 thereby further reducing the number of MAC operations. In the final phase, we propose a low-cost decoder employing unorthodox methods of boosting performance by gracefully degrading quality of service. The overall runtime of the decoder has been reduced by 60% when compared to the modified ISO decoder employing a synthesis filter bank with fast IDCT block. Real-time performance validations have been made by re-tuning time-critical code sections for both native VLIW and DSP architectures. The final implementation successfully passes all ISO/IEC MPEG-2 audio compliance tests and achieves near-transparent audio decoding and signal reconstruction on the fly.

Abstract

Hyperhomocysteinemia, a condition of elevated blood homocysteine (Hcy) level, is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Folic acid supplementation can effectively reduce blood Hcy levels. Recent studies have demonstrated that hyperhomocysteinemia is also associated with kidney disease. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The overall objective of the study was to investigate the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of Hcy-induced kidney injury and the effect of folic acid supplementation on Hcy-induced kidney injury. Hyperhomocysteinemia was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by feeding a high-methionine diet for 12 weeks. An elevation of serum total Hcy level was observed in hyperhomocysteinemic rats. Hyperhomocysteinemia-induced superoxide anion production via nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase activation resulted in oxidative stress in the kidney. Reduction of oxidative stress by inhibiting superoxide anion production effectively ameliorated hyperhomocysteinemia-induced kidney injury. Inflammatory responses such as increased chemokine expression have been implicated as one of the mechanisms of kidney disease. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is a potent chemokine that is involved in the inflammatory response in kidney disease. Nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappaB) plays an important role in upregulation of MCP-1 expression. We investigated the effect of hyperhomocysteinemia on MCP-1 expression and the molecular mechanism responsible for such an effect in rat kidneys as well as in human kidney proximal tubular cells.

Abstract

AbstractA yeast-like organism was isolated from a urine sample of a 6-year-old neutered male miniature poodle dog with urinary tract infection, diabetes ketoacidosis, and acute pancreatitis. We identified the yeast-like organism to be Candida glabrataand found that this fungus was highly resistant to azole antifungal drugs. To understand the mechanism of azole resistance in this isolate, the sequences and expression levels of the genes involved in drug resistance were analyzed. The results of our analysis showed that increased drug efflux, mediated by overexpression of ATP transporter genes CDR1and PDH1, is the main cause of azole resistance of the C. glabrataisolated here.
