Resveratrol, a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound, has captivated the scientific community with its promising therapeutic potential across a spectrum of diseases. This review explores the complex role of resveratrol in modulating ferroptosis, a newly identified form of programmed cell death, and its potential implications for managing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders, cancer, and other conditions. Ferroptosis is intricately linked to the pathogenesis of diverse diseases, with resveratrol exerting multifaceted effects on this process. It mitigates ferroptosis by modulating lipid peroxidation, iron accumulation, and engaging with specific cellular receptors, thereby manifesting profound therapeutic benefits in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions, as well as oncological settings. Moreover, resveratrol's capacity to either suppress or induce ferroptosis through the modulation of signaling pathways, including Sirt1 and Nrf2, unveils novel therapeutic avenues. Despite resveratrol's limited bioavailability, advancements in molecular modification and drug delivery optimization have amplified its clinical utility. Future investigations are poised to unravel the comprehensive mechanisms underpinning resveratrol's action and expand its therapeutic repertoire. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is characterized by psychomotor retardation whose underlying neural source remains unclear. Psychomotor retardation may either be related to a motor source like the motor cortex or, alternatively, to a psychomotor source with neural changes outside motor regions, like input regions such as visual cortex. These two alternative hypotheses in main (n = 41) and replication (n = 18) MDD samples using 7 Tesla MRI are investigated. Analyzing both global and local connectivity in primary motor cortex (BA4), motor network and middle temporal visual cortex complex (MT+), the main findings in MDD are: 1) Reduced local and global synchronization and increased local‐to‐global output in motor regions, which do not correlate with psychomotor retardation, though. 2) Reduced local‐to‐local BA4 – MT+ functional connectivity (FC) which correlates with psychomotor retardation. 3) Reduced global synchronization and increased local‐to‐global output in MT+ which relate to psychomotor retardation. 4) Reduced variability in the psychophysical measures of MT+ based motion perception which relates to psychomotor retardation. Together, it is shown that visual cortex MT+ and its relation to motor cortex play a key role in mediating psychomotor retardation. The production of Chi-aroma Baijiu generates free radicals, which may pose potential health risks. This study aimed to scavenge free radicals in Chi-aroma Baijiu and assess the impact on the composition of volatile compounds (VOCs) by using distillers' grains-derived homologous peptides. Five peptides—Pro-Ala (PA), Pro-Val (PV), Gly-Leu (GL), Asp-Phe (DF), and Pro-Leu (PL)—were isolated from the distillers' grain filtrate. These peptides are present in trace amounts in Chi-aroma Baijiu. By supplementing five peptides to Chi-aroma Baijiu, they could completely scavenge hydroxyl radicals. The rate of scavenging alkoxy radicals ranged from 10.84% to 35.66%. Furthermore, these peptides had an impact on ethyl nonanoate, diethyl acetal, and octanal, which were recognized as characteristic compounds. Ultraviolet spectroscopy simulation revealed that the highest absorption peaks of certain peptides shift when they interact with various esters. Those peptides interact with ethyl acetate and ethyl lactate via hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals forces, demonstrating their influence on VOCs. These findings offer new insights into free radical scavenging, flavor compound regulation, and the valorization of Baijiu by-products in Chi-aroma Baijiu production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Marine eutrophication, primarily driven by nutrient over input from agricultural runoff, wastewater discharge, and atmospheric deposition, leads to harmful algal blooms (HABs) that pose a severe threat to marine ecosystems. This review explores the causes, monitoring methods, and control strategies for eutrophication in marine environments. Monitoring techniques include remote sensing, automated in situ sensors, modeling, forecasting, and metagenomics. Remote sensing provides large-scale temporal and spatial data, while automated sensors offer real-time, high-resolution monitoring. Modeling and forecasting use historical data and environmental variables to predict blooms, and metagenomics provides insights into microbial community dynamics. Control treatments encompass physical, chemical, and biological treatments, as well as advanced technologies like nanotechnology, electrocoagulation, and ultrasonic treatment. Physical treatments, such as aeration and mixing, are effective but costly and energy-intensive. Chemical treatments, including phosphorus precipitation, quickly reduce nutrient levels but may have ecological side effects. Biological treatments, like biomanipulation and bioaugmentation, are sustainable but require careful management of ecological interactions. Advanced technologies offer innovative solutions with varying costs and sustainability profiles. Comparing these methods highlights the trade-offs between efficacy, cost, and environmental impact, emphasizing the need for integrated approaches tailored to specific conditions. To mitigate the exploration and development risks, it is necessary to have a deeper understanding of the formation mechanism and gas-bearing control factors of low-resistance shale reservoirs. This study focuses on typical shale gas wells (including low-resistivity wells) in Luzhou area, and identification criteria for low-resistance shale reservoirs are redefined as resistivity less than 10 Ω·m and continuous formation thickness greater than 6 m. At the macro scale, low-resistivity shale reservoirs are characterized by high clay mineral content and high water saturation with low gas content. At the micro scale, the main pore size is less than 10 nm, with a small total pore volume but a large specific surface area. Shale reservoirs close to the Class II fault have high water saturation and strong compaction, which hinders the mutual transformation between minerals, resulting in low-resistivity shale with high clay mineral content, small pore volume, and pore size, which promotes the enhancement of reservoir conductivity. The gas content of low-resistivity shale reservoirs is lower, because the distance from the Class II fault is closer, resulting in high water saturation and strong diagenesis, which is not conducive to pore development and shale gas accumulation. When the water saturation exceeds 40%, the pore volume of shale reservoirs rapidly decreases to as low as 0.0074 cm3/g. In order to reduce the risk of exploration and development of the area, the well location deployment needs to be more than 2.8 km away from the Class II fault. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
