1. 1. TZC-5665 is a novel pyridazinone derivative with vasodilatory and β-adrenergic blocking activities and type III phosphodiesterase inhibitory action. 2. 2. In healthy volunteers, TZC-5665 was rapidly absorbed and immediately metabolized. Its main metabolite, M-2, remained at a higher concentration in plasma. Orally administered TZC-5665 reduced end-diastolic left ventricular volume (20.16 ml) and exhibited a tendency to increase ejection fraction (0.04). 3. 3. In dogs, M-2 dose-dependently increased cardiac contractility and reduced both preload and afterload. These effects appeared more potent in the failed heart than in the normal heart. At the same dose (30 μg/kg), the effects of M-2 seem to be more potent than those of milrinone. 4. 4. We concluded that TZC-5665 is a useful medication for treating patients with chronic congestive heart failure (CHF) because of the positive inotropic and vasodilating effects due to its active metabolite in addition to its own β-adrenergic blocking actions.

State analysis of low-sulfated chondroitin 4-sulfate (LSC) in human urine and serum was performed by the use of high performance liquid chromatography and Western blot analysis. It was revealed that the most amount of LSC in urine is present as urinary trypsin inhibitor and a small amount (about 10% of total LSC) is as an LSC chain. The LSC in serum is mainly present as a proteoglycan such as inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor (ITI), with a molecular weight of 212 kDa, but a small amount of LSC-proteoglycans having molecular weights of 128 and 38 kDa were also observed on SDS-PAGE. Those two compounds may be fragments of ITI, or one of the compounds (128 kDa) may be pre-alpha-trypsin inhibitor which was found by Enghild et al. (J. Biol. Chem., 264, 15975 (1989)).

This paper describes a study of peculiar phenomena in fuel-rich oxy-acetylene detonations. The detonation wave and the accompanying soot-formation were observed by a high speed streak camera. The pressure and particle velocity changes in the expansion wave were measured and compared with theoretical predictions. The effect of an additive which is thought to accelerate the soot-formation was investigated. The following results were obtained. (1) In the fuel-rich region, fluctuations in wave velocities are observed, and the velocity switches from one theoretical value to another with the change in equivalence ratios. (2) A shock wave following the detonation is formed with the accumulation of the compression waves generated by the soot-formation. (3) The pressure and particle velocity changes in the expansion wave agree with the theory based on the assumption that the expansion wave is a centered simple wave. (4) With a small amount of benzene, fluctuations in velocities are no longer observed and the transition occurs at lower equivalence ratios.

Knowing the number of solutions for a Diophantine equation is an important step to study various arithmetic problems. Igusa originated the study of Igusa zeta functions associated to local Diophantine problems. Multiplying all these local Igusa zeta functions we obtain the global version in the natural way. Unfortunately, investigations on global Igusa zeta functions are rare up to now. Reformulating the global Igusa zeta function via the number of morphisms between algebraic systems we discover a new aspect: the multivariable Euler product of Igusa type and its applications. A purpose of this paper is to encourage experts for further studies on global Igusa zeta functions by treating a simple interesting example.

Commuting differential operators with symbols ∂ 1 2 + ∂ 2 2 , ∂ 1 2 ∂ 2 2 are related to the functional equation V 1 ( x 1 ) U + ( x 1 + x 2 ) + V 1 ( x 1 ) U − ( x 1 − x 2 ) + V 2 ( x 2 ) U + ( x 1 + x 2 ) − V 2 ( x 2 ) U − ( x 1 − x 2 ) = F + ( x 1 + x 2 ) + F − ( x 1 − x 2 ) + G 1 ( x 1 ) + G 2 ( x 2 ). We discuss several properties, such as a meromorphic extension of solutions and periodicity, of this functional equation and commuting differential operators.

Computer aided systems for performance evaluation of functional devices for passenger cars, such as engines or transmissions, have been applied for ten years. These systems generally consist of a large main frame computer or minicomputers for conducting a large number of complicated analyses. In the past, these computer aided systems were used for vehicle research and development since they were too expensive and sophisticated for use on the production line. Today, microcomputers with mass memory or personal computers are available at very low cost in comparison to conventional minicomputers. With many distributed microcomputers, we have developed a new test and control system for the engine production line. This system consists of (1) a microcomputer with a disk system for test data storage, (2) five personal computers for the man-machine system and data processing, and (3) microcomputers for real time control and data acquisition. These distributed micro and personal computers have been connected with standard interfaces. With this system we have achieved higher efficiency of inspection such as performance testing, quality control, and higher levels of the test analyses.

Joint work with Romain Casati, Alexandre Derouet-Jourdan, and Gilles Daviet, publication of the proceedings of MEIS 2015; International audience; In this talk I will give an overview of our work on the simulation of fibers and entangled materials, such as hair, with a specific interest for virtual prototyping and computer graphics applications. I will first introduce a family of high-order, reduced models for discretizing Kirchhoff's equations for thin elastic rods in a both faithful and robust way. Such models are particularly well-suited for simulating in-extensible fibers subject to bending and twisting, and featuring an arbitrary curly resting geometry. Then I will show how such models can be coupled to frictional contact using the nonsmooth contact dynamics framework, and I will present a hybrid iterative solver suitable for robustly handling thousands packed fibers at reasonable frame rates. Finally, I will give some insights into the inverse modeling of fibers, consisting in taking an arbitrary curve geometry as input and inferring corresponding geometric and physical parameters of the simulator such that the input geometry corresponds to a stable configuration at equilibrium.
