Subgap structure in the surface bound states spectrum of Superfluid $^3$He-B with rough surface is discussed. The subgap is formed by the level repulsion between the surface bound state and the continuum states in the course of multiple scattering by the surface roughness. We show that the level repulsion is originated from the nature of the wave function of the surface bound state that is now recognized as Majorana Fermion. We study the superfluid $^3$He-B with a rough surface and under magnetic field perpendicular to the surface using the quasi-classical Green function together with random S-matrix model. We calculate the self-consistent order parameters, the spin polarization density and the surface density of states. It is shown that the subgap is found also under the magnetic field perpendicular to the surface. Magnetic field dependence of the transverse acoustic impedance is also discussed.

In this paper, we show the existence of universal inequalities for the $h^*$-vector of a lattice polytope P, that is, we show that there are relations among the coefficients of the $h^*$-polynomial which are independent of both the dimension and the degree of P. More precisely, we prove that the coefficients $h^*_1$ and $h^*_2$ of the $h^*$-vector $(h^*_0,h^*_1,\ldots,h^*_d)$ of a lattice polytope of any degree satisfy Scott's inequality if $h^*_3=0$., Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure

In this paper, we study divisorial ideals of a Hibi ring which is a toric ring arising from a partially ordered set. We especially characterize the special class of divisorial ideals called conic using the associated partially ordered set. Using our description of conic divisorial ideals, we also construct a module giving a non-commutative crepant resolution (= NCCR) of the Segre product of polynomial rings. It was observed by Bump et al. that Ehrhart polynomials in a special family exhibit properties similar to the Riemann {\zeta} function. The construction was generalized by Matsui et al. to a larger family of reflexive polytopes coming from graphs. We prove several conjectures confirming when such polynomials have zeros on a certain line in the complex plane. Our main new method is to prove a stronger property called interlacing.

Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, and $A$ a Cohen-Macaulay graded domain with $A_0=k$. If $A$ is semi-standard graded (i.e., $A$ is finitely generated as a $k[A_1]$-module), it has the $h$-vector $(h_0, h_1, ..., h_s)$, which encodes the Hilbert function of $A$. From now on, assume that $s=2$. It is known that if $A$ is standard graded (i.e., $A=k[A_1]$), then $A$ is level. We will show that, in the semi-standard case, if $A$ is not level, then $h_1+1$ divides $h_2$. Conversely, for any positive integers $h$ and $n$, there is a non-level $A$ with the $h$-vector $(1, h, (h+1)n)$. It was proved by Nill that for any lattice simplex of dimension $d$ with degree $s$ which is not a lattice pyramid, the inequality $d+1 \leq 4s-1$ holds. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of lattice simplices satisfying the equality, i.e., the lattice simplices of dimension $(4s-2)$ with degree $s$ which are not lattice pyramids. It turns out that such simplices arise from binary simplex codes. As an application of this characterization, we show that such simplices are counterexamples for the conjecture known as "Cayley conjecture". Moreover, by modifying Nill's inequaitly slightly, we also see the sharper bound $d+1 \leq f(2s)$, where $f(M)=\sum_{n=0}^{\lfloor \log_2 M \rfloor} \lfloor M/2^n \rfloor$ for $M \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$. In this paper, for the development of the study of almost Gorenstein graded rings, we discuss some relations between almost Gorensteinness of Cohen--Macaulay homogeneous rings and their $h$-vectors. Concretely, for a Cohen--Macaulay homogeneous ring $R$, we give a sufficient condition for $R$ to be almost Gorenstein in terms of the $h$-vector of $R$ and we also characterize almost Gorenstein homogeneous domains with small socle degrees in terms of the $h$-vector of $R$. It is shown that, for each $d \geq 4$, there exists an integral convex polytope $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension $d$ such that each of the coefficients of $n, n^{2}, \ldots, n^{d-2}$ of its Ehrhart polynomial $i(\mathcal{P},n)$ is negative. Moreover, it is also shown that for each $d \geq 3$ and $1 \leq k \leq d-2$, there exists an integral convex polytope $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension $d$ such that the coefficient of $n^k$ of the Ehrhart polynomial $i(\mathcal{P},n)$ of $\mathcal{P}$ is negative and all its remaining coefficients are positive. Let $\mathcal{F}(n)$ be the set of smooth Fano $n$-polytopes up to unimocular equivalence. In this paper, we consider the F-equivalence or I-equivalence classes for $\mathcal{F}(n)$ and introduce F-isolated or I-isolated smooth Fano $n$-polytopes. First, we describe all of F-equivalence classes and I-equivalence classes for $\mathcal{F}(5)$. We also give a complete characterization of F-equivalence classes (I-equivalence classes) for smooth Fano $n$-polytopes with $n+3$ vertices and construct a family of I-isolated smooth Fano polytopes., Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure

Recent work has focused on the roots z of the Ehrhart polynomial of a lattice polytope P. The case when Re(z) = -1/2 is of particular interest: these polytopes satisfy Golyshev's "canonical line hypothesis". We characterise such polytopes when dim(P) <= 7. We also consider the "half-strip condition", where all roots z satisfy -dim(P)/2 <= Re(z) <= dim(P)/2-1, and show that this holds for any reflexive polytope with dim(P) <= 5. We give an example of a 10-dimensional reflexive polytope which violates the half-strip condition, thus improving on an example by Ohsugi--Shibata in dimension 34., Comment: 20 pages, 1 figure

The characterization of lattice polytopes based upon information about their Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomials is a difficult open problem. In this paper, we finish the classification of lattice polytopes whose $h^*$-polynomials satisfy two properties: they are palindromic (so the polytope is Gorenstein) and they consist of precisely three terms. This extends the classification of Gorenstein polytopes of degree two due to Batyrev and Juny. The proof relies on the recent characterization of Batyrev and Hofscheier of empty lattice simplices whose $h^*$-polynomials have precisely two terms. Putting our theorem in perspective, we give a summary of these and other existing results in this area., Comment: 16 pages

We propose a mechanism that helps stabilize a superconducting state with broken time-reversal symmetry, which was predicted to realize in a d-wave superconducting film [A. B. Vorontsov, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 177001 (2009)]. In this superconducting phase, the time-reversal symmetry breaking is accompanied by spontaneous breaking of the translation symmetry along the film surface. We examine how the normal-superconducting phase boundary in the thickness-temperature phase diagram of the film is modified depending on the Fermi surface shape. In particular, the nonuniform superconducting phase is found to substantially extend to a smaller thickness region in the phase diagram when the Fermi surface satisfies a nesting condition. The regularity of an edge ideal of a finite simple graph $G$ is at least the induced matching number of $G$ and is at most the minimum matching number of $G$. If $G$ possesses a dominating inuduced matching, i.e., an induced matching which forms a maximal matching, then the induced matching number of $G$ is equal to the minimum matching number of $G$. In this paper, we investigate two properties concerning the unimodality of the $\delta$-vectors of lattice polytopes, which are log-concavity and alternatingly increasingness. For lattice polytopes $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension $d$, we prove that the dilated lattice polytopes $n\mathcal{P}$ have strictly log-concave and strictly alternatingly increasing $\delta$-vectors if $n > \max\{s,d+1-s\}$, where $s$ is the degree of the $\delta$-polynomial of $\mathcal{P}$. The bound $\max\{s,d+1-s\}$ for $n$ is reasonable. We also provide several kinds of unimodal (or non-unimodal) $\delta$-vectors. Concretely, we give examples of lattice polytoeps whose $\delta$-vectors are not unimodal, unimodal but neither log-concave nor alternatingly increasing, alternatingly increasing but not log-concave, and log-concave but not alternatingly increasing, respectively., Comment: 17 pages

A theoretical study is presented on the odd-frequency spin-singlet pairing that arises in nonuniform even-frequency superconductors as a consequence of broken translation symmetry. The effect of the odd-frequency pairing on the superfluid density and the spin susceptibility is analyzed by using the quasiclassical theory of superconductivity. It is shown that (1) the superfluid density is reduced by the formation of the odd-frequency singlet pairs and (2) the odd-frequency pairing increases the spin susceptibility even though its spin symmetry is singlet. The two unusual phenomena are related to each other through a generalized Yosida formula by taking into account both the even- and odd-frequency pairing effects., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures
