Abstract

Magnesium matrix composites are essential lightweight metal matrix composites, following aluminum matrix composites, with outstanding application prospects in automotive, aerospace lightweight and biomedical materials because of their high specific strength, low density and specific stiffness, good casting performance and rich resources. However, the inherent low plasticity and poor fatigue resistance of magnesium hamper its further application to a certain extent. Many researchers have tried many strengthening methods to improve the properties of magnesium alloys, while the relationship between wear resistance and plasticity still needs to be further improved. The nanoparticles added exhibit a good strengthening effect, especially the ceramic nanoparticles. Nanoparticle-reinforced magnesium matrix composites not only exhibit a high impact toughness, but also maintain the high strength and wear resistance of ceramic materials, effectively balancing the restriction between the strength and toughness. Therefore, this work aims to provide a review of the state of the art of research on the matrix, reinforcement, design, properties and potential applications of nano-reinforced phase-reinforced magnesium matrix composites (especially ceramic nanoparticle-reinforced ones). The conventional and potential matrices for the fabrication of magnesium matrix composites are introduced. The classification and influence of ceramic reinforcements are assessed, and the factors influencing interface bonding strength between reinforcements and matrix, regulation and design, performance and application are analyzed. 129. Statistical Dynamics of Regional Populations and Economies

Abstract

A practical statistical analysis on the regional populations and GDPs of China is conducted. The result shows that the distribution of the populations and that of the GDPs obeys the shifted power law, respectively. To understand these characteristics, a generalized Langevin equation describing variation of population is proposed based on the correlation between population and GDP as well as the random fluctuations of the related factors. The equation is transformed into the Fokker-Plank equation, and the solution demonstrates a transform of population distribution from the normal Gaussian distribution to a shifted power law. It also suggests a critical point of time at which the transform occurs. The shifted power law distribution in the supercritical situation is qualitatively in accordance with the practical result. The distribution of the GDPs is derived based on the Cobb-Douglas production function, and presents a change from a shifted power law to the Gaussian distribution. This result indicates that the regional GDP distribution of our society will be the Gaussian distribution in the future. The analysis on the growth trend of economy suggests it will become a reality. These theoretical attempts may draw a historical picture of our world in the aspects of population and economy.

Abstract

AIM: To compare the clinical outcomes of wavefront guided femtosecond LASIK (WFG LASIK) and conventional femtosecond LASIK (NWFG LASIK) in eyes with myopia and myopia astigmatism. METHODS: This was a retrospective, nonrandomized, comparative investigation enrolling 236 eyes of 122 patients (18-50y) with low & moderate and high myopia. The WFG group including 97 eyes (50 patients) undergone WFG LASIK and the NWFG group including 139 eyes (72 patients) undergone conventional LASIK. Mean efficacy index, high order aberrations (HOAs), pupil size and the quality of visual questionnaire were evaluated 6mo postoperatively. RESULTS: There is no difference between WFG group (-0.054±0.049 in logMAR) and NWFG group (-0.040±0.056) in uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) postoperatively.
