Accurate estimation of evaporation (E0) over open water bodies in arid regions (e.g., lakes in the desert) is of great importance for local water resource management. Due to the ability to accurately determine sensible (H) and latent (LE) heat fluxes over scales of hundreds to thousands of meters, scintillometers are more and more appreciated. In this study, a scintillometer was installed on both sides of the shore over the Sumu Barun Jaran Lake in the Badain Jaran Desert and was applied to estimate the sensible and latent heat fluxes and evaporation to be compared with the data of an evaporation pan and an aerodynamic model. Based on the field data, we further analyzed the seasonal differences in the flux evaluation using water temperature at different depths at half-hour and daily time scales, respectively. The results showed that in cold seasons, values of H were barely affected by the changes of shallow water temperature, whereas in hot seasons, the values were changed by 20%–30% at the half-hour time scale and 6.2%–18.3% at the daily time scale. In different seasons, shallow water temperature at different depths caused changes in the range of 0%–20% of LE (E0). This study contributes to a better understanding of uncertainties in measurements by large-aperture scintillometers in open-water environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study aimed to determine the optimal posterior tibial plateau inclination for fixed-platform unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) using finite element analysis (FEA). These findings provided a theoretical basis for selecting an appropriate posterior inclination of the tibial plateau during surgery. The present study utilized the FEA method to create models of fixed-platform UKA with tibial plateau posterior inclinations of 3, 6 and 9˚. The stress changes in the internal structures of each model after knee flexion motion were then compared. During knee flexion from 0 to 90˚, the contact and Von Mises equivalent stresses of the femoral condyle prosthesis and tibial platform pad revealed consistent trends of 3˚ posterior inclination, >6˚ posterior inclination and >9˚ posterior inclination. The present study established the first quasi-dynamic fixed-platform UKA model of the knee joint under load-bearing conditions. From a theoretical perspective, it was found that controlling the posterior inclination of UKA between 6 and 9˚ may be more beneficial for the survival of the tibial platform pad than between 3 and 6˚. Background: Relevant evidence suggests that angiogenic factors contribute significantly to fibril matrix reconstruction following physical injuries to tendon ligaments. Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), with its potent angiogenic effect, has been studied extensively, and its functional polymorphisms, including rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963, have been the focus of numerous investigations. Some scholars have explored the association between gene polymorphisms in the VEGFA and the risk of tendon ligament injury, but the findings are not entirely consistent., Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 gene polymorphisms in VEGFA and the risk of tendon and ligament injuries., Methods: After including articles about the association of VEGFA rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 polymorphisms with tendon and ligament injuries according to the search strategy, we assessed their quality and conducted meta-analyses to examine the link between these polymorphisms and the risk of tendon and ligament injuries using odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals., Results: Of 86 related articles, six were included in the meta-analysis. Some of these suggest an association between VEGFA rs2010963 and the risk of tendon and ligament injury in the population, with the specific C allele being one of the adverse factors for knee injury. Some studies suggest that VEGFA rs699947 and VEGFA rs1570360 single-nucleotide polymorphisms are associated with anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The risk of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament rupture is nearly doubled in individuals with the rs699947 CC genotype compared to the control group. Our analysis did not find any significant relationship between VEGFA gene polymorphisms (rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963) and the chance of tendon and ligament injury without consideration of race. However, the European population reveals that the CC genotype of VEGFA rs699947 can result in a greater risk of tendon and ligament injury, whereas the AG genotype for rs1570360 provides some protection. Additionally, rs2010963 was significantly associated with tendon and ligament injury; individuals with the C allele and the CC genotype had higher risk. False-positive report probability confirmed the high credibility of our results., Conclusion: Overall, this study found no significant association between VEGFA rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 polymorphisms and the risk of tendon ligament injury. However, in subgroup analysis, some genotypes of VEGFA rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 were found to increase the risk of tendon ligament injury in European populations., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

Despite the isovalency between Al and B elements, Al-doping in boron clusters can deviate substantially from an isoelectronic substitution process. We report herein on a unique sandwich di-Al-doped boron cluster, Al 2 B 8 , using global structural searches and quantum chemical calculations. The cluster features a perfectly planar B 8 molecular wheel, with two isolated Al atoms symmetrically floating above and below it. The two Al atoms are offset from the center of the molecular wheel, resulting in a C 2v symmetry for the cluster. The Al 2 B 8 cluster is shown to be dynamically fluxional even at far below room temperature (100 K), in which a vertical Al 2 rod slides or rotates freely within a circular rail on the B 8 plate, although there is no direct Al-Al interaction. The energy barrier for intramolecular rotation is only 0.01 kcal mol -1 at the single-point CCSD(T) level. Chemical bonding analysis shows that the cluster is a charge-transfer complex and can be formulated as [Al] + [B 8 ] 2- [Al] + . The [B 8 ] 2- molecular wheel in sandwich cluster has magic 6π/6σ double aromaticity, which underlies the dynamic fluxionality, despite strong electrostatic interactions between the [Al] + , [B 8 ] 2- , and [Al] + layers., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts to declare., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)

Objective: To systematically evaluate clinical effects of metal and non-metallic materials in internal fixation for patellar fracture., Methods: The reports concerning about controlled trial of metallic and non-metallic materials for patellar fracture from create database to June 2018 were searched from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science, CNKI and Wanfang data. Information was screened and taken out according to inclusion and exclusion criteria by 2 researchers, and risk of bias in non-andomised studies of interventions (ROBINS-I) was used to evaluate literature quality. Rate of reoperation, excellent and good rate of clinical rehabilitation, incidence of postoperative complications were compared with Revman 5.3 software for Meta-analysis., Results: Totally 9 retrospective cohort studies including 493 patients were selected. There was no significant difference in reoperation rate of internal fixation failure between metallic implants and non-metallic implants[OR=0.52, 95% CI (0.25, 1.08) P =0.08]. The excellent and good rate of postoperative clinical rehabilitation in patients receiving non-metallic implants were higher than those in receiving metallic implants[OR=3.34, 95% CI (1.67, 6.71), P =0.000 7]; incidence of total complications was also lower than that of metallic implants[OR=0.21, 95% CI (0.07, 0.60), P =0.003]. There was no significant difference in the incidence of non-metallic related complications after removing Kirschner wire needle and complications of skin irritation [OR=1.08, 95% CI(0.45, 2.56), P =0.86]., Conclusions: Non-metallic plants could provide the same success rate of internal fixation as metal plants, could improve the excellent and good rate of postoperative rehabilitation by reducing incidence of complications associated with metallic plants.
