The Higgs-top coupling plays a central role in the hierarchy problem and the vacuum stability of the Standard Model (SM). We propose a central-edge asymmetry (ACE) to probe the CP violating Higgs-top coupling in dileptonic channel of tt¯h(→bb¯) production at the LHC. We demonstrate that the CP-violating Higgs-top coupling can affect the central-edge asymmetry through distorting Δyℓ+ℓ− distribution because of the contribution of new top charge asymmetric term. Since Δyℓ+ℓ− distribution is frame-independent and has a good discrimination even in boosted regime, we use the jet substructure technique to enhance the observability of the dileptonic channel of tt¯h production. We find that (1) the significance of dileptonic channel of tt¯h production can reach 5σ for CP phase ξ=0,π/4,π/2 when the luminosity L=795,993,1276fb−1 at 14 TeV LHC. (2) the central-edge asymmetry ACE show a good discrimination power of CP phase of tt¯h interaction, which are −40.26%, −26.60%, −9.47% for ξ=0, π/4, π/2 respectively and are hardly affected by the event selections. Besides, by performing the binned-χ2 analysis of Δyℓ+ℓ− distribution, we find that the scalar and pseudo-scalar interactions can be distinguished at 95% C.L. level at 14 TeV HL-LHC.

Abstract The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) provides a systematic way to eliminate the renormalization scheme and renormalization scale uncertainties for high-energy processes. We have observed that by applying PMC scale setting, one obtains comprehensive and self-consistent pQCD predictions for the top-quark pair total cross section and the top-quark pair forward–backward asymmetry in agreement with the measurements at the Tevatron and LHC. As a step forward, in the present paper, we determine the top-quark pole mass via a detailed comparison of the top-quark pair cross section with the measurements at the Tevatron and LHC. The results for the top-quark pole mass are $$m_t=174.6^{+3.1}_{-3.2}$$ mt=174.6-3.2+3.1 GeV for the Tevatron with $$\sqrt{S}=1.96$$ S=1.96 TeV, $$m_t=173.7\pm 1.5$$ mt=173.7±1.5 and $$174.2\pm 1.7$$ 174.2±1.7 GeV for the LHC with $$\sqrt{S} = 7$$ S=7 and 8 TeV, respectively. Those predictions agree with the average, $$173.34\pm 0.76$$ 173.34±0.76 GeV, obtained from various collaborations via direct measurements. The consistency of the pQCD predictions using the PMC with all of the collider measurements at different energies provides an important verification of QCD.

Chinese fir, Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. (Taxodiaceae), is an evergreen conifer primarily distributed in southern China. This species exhibits very poor natural regeneration, possibly due to low light and a thick litter layer. To improve the understanding of the natural regeneration capacity of Chinese fir, in this study, we conducted a shade house experiment to determine the optimum light requirements and seed positions for seedling emergence and early growth. The experiment involved five light levels (100%, 60%, 40%, 15%, 5% of full sunlight) and four seed positions (1 cm beneath the soil surface without litter, on the soil surface without soil-seed contact, on the soil surface and covered with litter, and 1 cm beneath the soil surface and covered with litter). Seedling emergence was highest at 5%-15% sunlight, whereas seedling height, root length, root mass, stem mass, leaf mass, and total mass were highest at 60% sunlight. For each light level, seed position significantly affected emergence and growth. The above-litter position inhibited seedling emergence and survival, while the below-litter position favored seedling emergence and early growth, particularly under high light levels. Based on these results, to enhance natural regeneration of Chinese fir, we recommend periodical thinning to increase light into the understory after successful seedling emergence. We also recommend sowing seeds deeper into the litter to improve soil contact and moisture conditions. (Taxodiacees), est un conifere sempervirent principalement distribue dans le sud de la Chine. La regeneration naturelle de cette espece est tres faible possiblement a cause de la faible luminosite et de l'epaisse couche de litiere. Afin d'ameliorer notre comprehension de la capacite du sapin de Chine a se regenerer naturellement, nous avons realise une experience en serre froide pour determiner les exigences de luminosite et la position optimale des graines pour l'emergence et le developpement initial des semis. L'experience comportait cinq intensites lumineuses (100, 60, 40,15 et 5 % du plein soleil) et quatre positions des graines (1 cm sous la surface du sol sans litiere; a la surface du sol sans contact entre la graine et le sol; a la surface du sol et couvertes de litiere; et 1 cm sous la surface du sol et couvertes de litiere). L'emergence des semis etait la meilleure avec 5-15 % du plein soleil, tandis que la hauteur des semis, la longueur et la masse des racines, la masse de la tige et des feuilles ainsi que la masse totale etaient plus elevees avec 60 % du plein soleil. A chaque niveau de luminosite, la position des graines influencait significativement l'emergence et la croissance. La position au-dessus de la litiere a inhibe l'emergence et la survie des semis, alors que la position sous la litiere a favorise l'emergence et la croissance initiale des semis, surtout sous une forte luminosite. Sur la base de ces resultats, nous recommandons une eclaircie periodique pour augmenter la luminosite en sous-etage apres l'emergence reussie des semis dans le but d'ameliorer la regeneration naturelle du sapin de Chine. Nous recommandons aussi de semer les graines plus profondement dans la litiere pour ameliorer le contact avec le sol et les conditions d'humidite. The type III secretion system (T3SS) in many Gram-negative bacterial pathogens is regarded as the most critical virulence determinant and an attractive target for novel anti-virulence drugs. In this study, we constructed a T3SS secretion reporter containing the β-lactamase gene fused with a signal peptide sequence of the T3SS effector gene, and established a high-throughput screening system for T3SS inhibitors in the plant pathogenic bacterium Acidovorax citrulli. From a library of 12,000 chemical compounds, we identified a series of benzyloxy carbonimidoyl dicyanide (BCD) derivatives that effectively blocked T3SS-dependent β-lactamase secretion. Substitution of halogens or nitro groups at the para-position on the benzene ring contributed to an increased inhibitory activity. One representative compound, BCD03 (3,4-dichloro-benzyloxy carbonimidoyl dicyanide), dramatically reduced pathogenicity of A. citrulli on melon seedlings, and attenuated hypersensitive responses in the non-host Nicotiana tabacum caused by pathogenic bacteria A. citrulli, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae and Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato at sub-MIC concentrations. Western blotting assay further confirmed that BCD03 inhibited effector secretion from the above bacteria via T3SS in the liquid medium. Taken together, our data suggest that BCD derivatives act as novel inhibitors of T3SS in multiple plant bacterial pathogens.

In an extended effective operator framework of isospin violating interactions with light mediators, we investigate the compatibility of the candidate signal of the CDMS-II-Si with the latest constraints from DarkSide-50 and XENON-1T, etc. We show that the constraints from DarkSide-50 which utilizes Argon as the target is complementary to that from XENON-1T which utilizes Xenon. Combining the results of the two experiments, we find that for isospin violating interaction with light mediator there is no parameter space which can be compatible with the positive signals from CDMS-II-Si. As a concrete example of this framework, we investigate the dark photon model in detail. We obtain the combined limits on the dark matter mass mχ, the dark photon mass mA′, and the kinetic mixing parameter ε in the dark photon model. The DarkSide-50 gives more stringent upper limits in the region of mediator mass from 0.001 to 1 GeV, for mχ≲6 GeV in the (mA′, ε) plane, and more stringent constraints for mχ≲8 GeV and ε∼10−8 in the (mχ, mA′) plane.

In this paper, a refractive index (RI) sensor with superconducting photonic crystal in the terahertz regime is theoretically analyzed by the transfer matrix method. An asymmetric resonance cavity containing gradient thicknesses of the superconducting layer is employed to suppress the resonance absorption linewidth. We present the coupled wave theoretical model to give an optimization scheme for excellent sensing performance. The proposed sensing models can achieve an excellent single resonant peak when the temperature is over 80 K. When the incident angle varies between 50° and 70° in TE mode, the shift of a single resonant peak has a linear relationship with the incident angle. The simulation results report that the sensitivity and figure of merit in the optimal model can reach over 22.2 μm RIU−1 (RIU represents RI unit) and 265 at the ultralow temperature (85 K), respectively. Its performance indicators are dozens of times those of the traditional photonic crystal RI sensor. Our study provides theoretical guidance for the design of a low-temperature RI sensor with a high-performance indicator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
