This study examined the effects of late sowing, water restrictions, and interannual weather variations on wheat grain yield and quality through field trials in Spain over two growing seasons. Delayed sowing and water scarcity significantly reduced yields, with grain quality mainly affected under rainfed conditions. Early-maturing varieties performed better in these conditions, benefiting from lower temperatures and extended grain-filling periods, leading to higher solar radiation interception, potentially increased photosynthetic activity, and improved yields. These varieties also saved water through reduced total cumulative evapotranspiration from sowing to maturity (ETo TOT), which was advantageous in water-limited environments. In contrast, late-maturing varieties were exposed to higher maximum temperatures during grain filling and experienced greater ETo TOT, leading to lower yields, reduced hectoliter weight, and a lower P/L ratio (tenacity/extensibility). This study highlighted the importance of optimizing temperature exposure and evapotranspiration for improved grain yield and quality, especially under climate change conditions with higher temperatures and water shortages. Notably, it established, for the first time, the importance of phenology on wheat quality of different varieties, suggesting that targeted selection for specific phenology could mitigate the negative impacts of heat stress not only on grain yield but also on grain quality. Background: Sigma-1 receptors are highly expressed in brain areas related to cognitive function and are a promising target for anti-amnesic treatments. We previously showed that activation of sigma-1 receptors by the selective agonist compound methyl(1 R,2 S/1 S,2 R)-2-[4-hydroxy-4-phenylpiperidin-1-yl)methyl]-1-(4-methylphenyl) cyclopropane carboxylate [(±)-PPCC] promotes a remarkable recovery in rat models of memory loss associated to cholinergic dysfunction. Objective: In this study, we sought to assess the role of (±)-PPCC on working memory deficits caused by noradrenergic depletion. Methods: Animals with a mild or severe working memory deficits associated to varying degrees of noradrenergic neuronal depletion were treated with the sigma-1 agonist just prior to the beginning of each behavioral testing session. Results: While (±)-PPCC alone at a dose of 1 mg/kg/day failed to affect working memory in lesioned animals, its association with the α2 adrenergic receptor agonist clonidine, completely blocked noradrenaline release, significantly improving rat performance. This effect, distinct from noradrenaline activity, is likely to result from a direct action of the (±)-PPCC compound onto sigma-1 receptors, as pre-treatment with the selective sigma-1 receptor antagonist BD-1047 reversed the improved working memory performance. Despite such clear functional effects, the treatment did not affect noradrenergic neuron survival or terminal fiber proliferation. Conclusions: Future studies are thus necessary to address the effects of long-lasting (±)-PPCC treatment, with or without clonidine, on cognitive abilities and Alzheimer's disease-like histopathology. Considering the already established involvement of sigma-1 receptors in endogenous cell plasticity mechanisms, their activation by selective agonist compounds holds promises as possibly positive contributor to disease-modifying events in neurodegenerative diseases. Objective: This longitudinal study aimed to quantitatively document and evaluate the implementation and outcomes of the Open Dialogue (OD) approach within Italian Mental Health Departments (MHDs), focusing on the ratings of OD-network meetings by patients and their families and assessing the clinical outcomes over a span of 12 months. Results: Over the course of the study, 58 patients participated in 517 OD-network meetings, demonstrating a high level of satisfaction with the care received, as evidenced by the Session Rating Scale (SRS) and Outcome Rating Scale (ORS). Clinically, significant improvements were observed in the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF), Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation (CORE-OM), and the Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS), indicating enhanced psychological and social functioning. The SRS scores showed that satisfaction with the meetings increased over time, while the ORS indicated that both patients and their social networks perceived gradual improvements throughout the therapy. Conclusion: The OD approach within Italian MHDs was successfully implemented and well-received by patients and their social networks, yielding significant clinical improvements. These findings suggest the feasibility and effectiveness of integrating the OD model into the Italian public mental health system, supporting its potential for broader application in diverse healthcare settings. The study highlights the importance of continuous engagement and evaluation to maintain high standards of practice and suggests that OD can be a valuable addition to existing mental health care practices, promoting recovery through inclusive, dialogue-based interventions. (Background) Over the years, there has been increasing interest in adopting a quality approach in radiology, leading to the strategic pursuit of specific and key performance indicators (KPIs). These indicators in radiology can have significant impacts ranging from radiation protection to integration into digital healthcare. (Purpose) This study aimed to conduct a narrative review on the integration of key performance indicators (KPIs) in radiology with specific key questions. (Methods) This review utilized a standardized checklist for narrative reviews, including the ANDJ Narrative Checklist, to ensure thoroughness and consistency. Searches were performed on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using a combination of keywords related to radiology and KPIs, with Boolean logic to refine results. From an initial yield of 211 studies, 127 were excluded due to a lack of focus on KPIs. The remaining 84 studies were assessed for clarity, design, and methodology, with 26 ultimately selected for detailed review. The evaluation process involved multiple assessors to minimize bias and ensure a rigorous analysis. (Results and Discussion) This overview highlights the following: KPIs are crucial for advancing radiology by supporting the evolution of imaging technologies (e.g., CT, MRI) and integrating emerging technologies like AI and AR/VR. They ensure high standards in diagnostic accuracy, image quality, and operational efficiency, enhancing diagnostic capabilities and streamlining workflows. KPIs are vital for radiological safety, measuring adherence to protocols that minimize radiation exposure and protect patients. The effective integration of KPIs into healthcare systems requires systematic development, validation, and standardization, supported by national and international initiatives. Addressing challenges like CAD-CAM technology and home-based radiology is essential. Developing specialized KPIs for new technologies will be key to continuous improvement in patient care and radiological practices. (Conclusions) In conclusion, KPIs are essential for advancing radiology, while future research should focus on improving data access and developing specialized KPIs to address emerging challenges. Some composite materials have been prepared, constituted by a cyclodextrin-bis-urethane-based nanosponge matrix in which a reduced graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles photocatalyst has been dispersed. Different chain extenders were employed for designing the nanosponge supports, in such a way as to decorate their hyper-cross-linked structure with diverse functionalities. Moreover, two different strategies were explored to accomplish the silver loading. The obtained systems were successfully tested as catalysts for the photodegradation of emerging pollutants such as model dyes and drugs. Enhancement of the photoactive species performance (up to nine times), due to the synergistic local concentration effect exerted by the nanosponge, could be assessed. Overall, the best performances were shown by polyamine-decorated materials, which were able to promote the degradation of some particularly resistant drugs. Some methodological issues pertaining to data collection are also addressed.

In recent years, the landscape of diagnostic imaging has undergone a significant transformation with the emergence of home radiology, challenging the traditional paradigm. This shift, bringing diagnostic imaging directly to patients, has gained momentum and has been further accelerated by the global COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the increasing importance and convenience of decentralized healthcare services. This study aims to offer a nuanced understanding of the attitudes and experiences influencing the integration of in-home radiography into contemporary healthcare practices. The research methodology involves a survey administered through Computer-Aided Web Interviewing (CAWI) tools, enabling real-time engagement with a diverse cohort of medical radiology technicians in the health domain. A second CAWI tool is submitted to experts to assess their feedback on the methodology. The survey explores key themes, including perceived advantages and challenges associated with domiciliary imaging, its impact on patient care, and the technological intricacies specific to conducting radiologic procedures outside the conventional clinical environment. Findings from a sample of 26 medical radiology technicians (drawn from a larger pool of 186 respondents) highlight a spectrum of opinions and constructive feedback. Enthusiasm is evident for the potential of domiciliary imaging to enhance patient convenience and provide a more patient-centric approach to healthcare. Simultaneously, this study suggests areas of intervention to improve the diffusion of home-based radiology. The methodology based on CAWI tools proves instrumental in the efficiency and depth of data collection, as evaluated by 16 experts from diverse professional backgrounds. The dynamic and responsive nature of this approach allows for a more allocated exploration of technicians’ opinions, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of medical imaging services. Emphasis is placed on the need for national and international initiatives in the field, supported by scientific societies, to further explore the evolving landscape of teleradiology and the integration of artificial intelligence in radiology. This study encourages expansion involving other key figures in this practice, including, naturally, medical radiologists, general practitioners, medical physicists, and other stakeholders.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are a class of metal alloys consisting of four or more molar equal or near-equal elements. HEA nanomaterials have garnered significant interest due to their wide range of applications, such as electrocatalysis, welding, and brazing. Their unique multi-principle high-entropy effect allows for the tailoring of the alloy composition to facilitate specific electrochemical reactions. This study focuses on the synthesis of high-purity HEA nanoparticles using the method of femtosecond laser ablation synthesis in liquid. The use of ultrashort energy pulses in femtosecond lasers enables uniform ablation of materials at significantly lower power levels compared to longer pulse or continuous pulse lasers. We investigate how various femtosecond laser parameters affect the morphology, phase, and other characteristics of the synthesized nanoparticles. An innovative aspect of our solution is its ability to rapidly generate multi-component nanoparticles with a high fidelity as the input multi-component target material at a significant yielding rate. Our research thus focuses on a novel synthesis of high-entropy alloying CuCoMn1.75NiFe0.25 nanoparticles. We explore the characterization and unique properties of the nanoparticles and consider their electrocatalytic applications, including high power density aluminum air batteries, as well as their efficacy in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Additionally, we report a unique nanowire fabrication phenomenon achieved through nanojoining. The findings from this study shed light on the potential of femtosecond laser ablation synthesis in liquid (FLASiL) as a promising technique for producing high-purity HEA nanoparticles.

IntroductionClimate change poses significant challenges to agriculture, impacting crop yields and necessitating adaptive strategies in breeding programs. This study investigates the genetic yield progress of wheat varieties in Catalonia, Spain, from 2007 to 2021, and examines the relationship between genetic yield and climate-related factors, such as temperature. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for ensuring the resilience of wheat crops in the face of changing environmental conditions.MethodsGenetic yield progress was assessed using a linear regression function, comparing the average yield changes of newly released wheat varieties to benchmark varieties. Additionally, a quadratic function was employed to model genetic yield progress in winter wheat (WW). The study also analyzed correlations between genetic yield (GY) and normalized values of hectoliter weight (HLW) and the number of grains (NG) for both spring wheat (SW) and WW. Weather data were used to confirm climate change impacts on temperature and its effects on wheat growth and development.ResultsThe study found that genetic yield was stagnant for SW but increased linearly by 1.31% per year for WW. However, the quadratic function indicated a possible plateau in WW genetic yield progress in recent years. Positive correlations were observed between GY and normalized values of HLW and NG for both SW and WW. Climate change was evident in Catalonia, with temperatures increasing at a rate of 0.050 °C per year. This rise in temperature had detrimental effects on days to heading (DH) and HLW, with reductions observed in both SW and WW for each °C increase in annual minimum and average temperature.DiscussionThe findings highlighted the urgent need to address the impact of climate change on wheat cultivation. The stagnation of genetic yield in SW and the potential plateau in WW genetic yield progress call for adaptive measures. Breeding programs should prioritize phenological adjustments, particularly sowing date optimization, to align with the most favorable months of the year. Moreover, efforts should be made to enhance HLW and the number of grains per unit area in new wheat varieties to counteract the negative effects of rising temperatures. This research underscores the importance of ongoing monitoring and adaptation in agricultural practices to ensure yield resilience in the context of a changing climate.

Meningiomas are rare benign tumors during pregnancy. They can put both the mother and the fetus at risk because rapid changes in size may occur. The study reports a case of olfactory groove meningioma in a 34-year-old pregnant woman with visual impairment, anosmia, and dysgeusia that increased in severity during the 29th week of gestation. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an olfactory groove meningioma. The patient underwent a preterm cesarean section to avoid the worsening of the clinical condition due to intracranial compression phenomena. A computed tomography scan of the brain supported the diagnosis. The surgical intervention occurred on the third day after delivery. The clinical course was uneventful and the chiasmal syndrome improved in the following 2 months. Meningiomas in pregnancy may present unique challenges and have a wide array of clinical presentations. Management of maternal meningiomas can be complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. The treatment decision largely depends on the size and location of the tumor, the presence of symptoms, gestational age, and fetal well-being. Further research is needed to enhance the understanding of the underlying mechanisms and improve management approaches for this rare condition.

Objective: Worldwide cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer and is also the fourth leading cause of death among women, after breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer. The aim of this study is to investigate the long-term oncological safety of laparoscopic treatment without the use of a uterine manipulator for patients with early stage cervical cancer. Materials and methods: A single-center retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of ARNAS Garibaldi Nesima on patients surgically treated for early cervical cancer from 2014 to 2017. Inclusion criteria included squamous or adenosquamous histotype, FIGO stage from Ia1 to Ib2, cancer size < 4 cm, ECOG status 0–1, and negative serum beta-HCG. The patients were divided into two groups: treatment with and without an intra-uterine manipulator. Results: Seventy patients were identified, but only thirty-one met the inclusion criteria and were enrolled. All patients underwent surgery: three patients with the uterine manipulator, twenty-eight without. Among the thirty-one patients enrolled, twelve women had cancer in situ (IA1), nineteen had an early stage cervical cancer, in particular two cases of cervical cancer stage IA2, ten cases of cervical cancer stage IB1, and seven cases of cervical cancer stage IB2, according to the FIGO classification. At follow-up, three cases of recurrence occurred, but the uterine manipulator was not used. Conclusion: After five years of follow-up, recurrence rates in patients treated with minimally invasive surgery are about 10%, but the use of a uterine manipulator is not related to a higher level of recurrence rates.

Efficient and sustainable materials are requested to overcome the actual major issues related to green energy production. Ni/NiO nanoparticles (NPs, 2–4 nm in size) produced by Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquid (PLAL) are reported as highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water splitting applications. Ni/NiO NPs dispersions are obtained by ablating a Ni target immersed in deionized water with an Nd:YAG nanosecond pulsed laser. NPs size and density were driven by laser energy fluence (ranging from 8 to 10 J cm−2) and shown to have an impact on OER performance. Ni/NiO NPs were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, photoemission spectroscopy, and Rutherford back-scattering spectrometry. By drop-casting onto graphene paper, anode electrodes were fabricated for electrochemical water splitting in alkaline electrolytes. The extrinsic and intrinsic catalytic performances for OER have been quantified, achieving an overpotential of 308 mV (at a current density of 10 mA cm−2) and unprecedented mass activity of more than 16 A mg−1, using NPs synthesized with the highest and lowest laser energy fluence, respectively. The impact of NPs’ size and density on OER performances has been clarified, opening the way for PLAL synthesis as a promising technique for highly efficient nano-electrocatalysts production.

This evolution, driven by the synergy of advanced technologies and robust data networks, reshapes the intersection of domiciliary radiology and mobile technology in healthcare delivery. (Objective) The objective of this study is to overview the reviews in this field with reference to the last five years to face the state of development and integration of this practice in the health domain. (Methods) A review was conducted on PubMed and Scopus, applying a standard checklist and a qualification process. The outcome detected 21 studies. (Key Content and Findings) The exploration of mobile and domiciliary radiology unveils a compelling and optimistic perspective. Notable strides in this dynamic field include the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), revolutionary applications in telemedicine, and the educational potential of mobile devices. Post-COVID-19, telemedicine advances and the influential role of AI in pediatric radiology signify significant progress. Mobile mammography units emerge as a solution for underserved women, highlighting the crucial importance of early breast cancer detection. The investigation into domiciliary radiology, especially with mobile X-ray equipment, points toward a promising frontier, prompting in-depth research for comprehensive insights into its potential benefits for diverse populations. The study also identifies limitations and suggests future exploration in various domains of mobile and domiciliary radiology. A key recommendation stresses the strategic prioritization of multi-domain technology assessment initiatives, with scientific societies’ endorsement, emphasizing regulatory considerations for responsible and ethical technology integration in healthcare practices. The broader landscape of technology assessment should aim to be innovative, ethical, and aligned with societal needs and regulatory standards. This overview also provides a roadmap, urging scholars, industry players, and regulators to collectively contribute to the further integration of this technology in the health domain.

The complex reaction network connected to the 19F stellar abundance is very sensitive to the physical condition in stars. To overcome difficulties present in the direct measurements, mainly the very low cross section in the astrophysical energy range due to the Coulomb repulsion, an indirect measurement of the 19F(p, α) reaction, with the Trojan Horse Method (THM), was performed at INFN-LNS. While the method had been successfully used to study α0 channel, in the present analysis focus was given to the α1,2 channels, where better knowledge of the reaction rates at low energies is required, obtainable by employing the THM method.

In astrophysics, the abundance of 26Al is essential for understanding nucleosynthesis in the Milky Way and Galactic core-collapse supernovae rates. Detection methods involve γ-ray lines and comparing 26Mg overabundance with the common Mg isotope in meteorites. Therefore, stable isotopes 27Al and 24Mg play a crucial role and the MgAl cycle affecting aluminum and magnesium production has to be carefully studied. Recent surveys reveal complexities in stellar populations whose understanding may also benefit from better constraining the closure of the MgAl cycle. The 27Al(p, α)24Mg fusion reaction, a key 27Al destruction channel, is central to these scenarios. Due to uncertainties, the Trojan Horse Method is applied, allowing high-precision spectroscopy on the compound nucleus 28Si. It reveals crucial fusion cross section information in the astrophysically relevant energy range. The indirect measurement by means of the 2H(27Al,α24Mg)n process made it possible to assess the contribution of the 84.3 keV resonance and to set upper limits on nearby resonances. This study evaluates the THM recommended rate’s impact on intermediate-mass asymptotic giant branch stars, showing a notable increase in surface aluminum abundance at lower masses due to fusion cross section modification, while 24Mg remains largely unaffected.

Domesticated rice Oryza sativa L. is a major staple food worldwide, and the cereal most sensitive to salinity. It originated from the wild ancestor Oryza rufipogon Griff., which was reported to possess superior salinity tolerance. Here, we examined the morpho-physiological responses to salinity stress (80 mM NaCl for 7 days) in seedlings of an O. rufipogon accession and two Italian O. sativa genotypes, Baldo (mildly tolerant) and Vialone Nano (sensitive). Under salt treatment, O. rufipogon showed the highest percentage of plants with no to moderate stress symptoms, displaying an unchanged shoot/root biomass ratio, the highest Na+ accumulation in roots, the lowest root and leaf Na+/K+ ratio, and highest leaf relative water content, leading to a better preservation of the plant architecture, ion homeostasis, and water status. Moreover, O. rufipogon preserved the overall leaf carbon to nitrogen balance and photosynthetic apparatus integrity. Conversely, Vialone Nano showed the lowest percentage of plants surviving after treatment, and displayed a higher reduction in the growth of shoots rather than roots, with leaves compromised in water and ionic balance, negatively affecting the photosynthetic performance (lowest performance index by JIP-test) and apparatus integrity. Baldo showed intermediate salt tolerance. Being O. rufipogon interfertile with O. sativa, it resulted a good candidate for pre-breeding towards salt-tolerant lines.

Objective: To compare the vaginal cuff dehiscence (VCD) rates using Vicryl (Poliglactyn 910) and Polydioxanone (PDS) in patients who underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy. Materials and methods: A retrospective, monocentric study was conducted, including all patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Azienda di Rilievo Nazionale e di Alta Specializzazione (ARNAS) Garibaldi Nesima, Catania, between January 2014 and December 2021. Patients underwent hysterectomy for benign gynecologic pathologies (endometriosis, leiomyomas, or benign pelvic pathologies) or malignant gynecologic pathologies (endometrium cancer, complex endometrial hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, cervix cancer, or uterine carcinosarcoma). The Z-score calculation was performed to find eventual statistically significant differences between the two populations regarding VCD rates. Results: Laparoscopic vaginal cuff closure was performed, with Vicryl sutures in 202 patients and PDS sutures in 184 women. Demographic and baseline characteristics were not significantly different in the two groups. VCD occurred in three patients in the Vicryl group and did not occur in the PDS group. The three cases of VCD were precipitated by intercourses that occurred within 90 days of surgery. However, there was not a significant statistical difference between the two groups regarding VCD (p = 0.09). Conclusions: Vicryl and PDS sutures seem to be similar for vaginal cuff closure in laparoscopic hysterectomy. The VCD rate was low, and the observed differences between the Vicryl and PDS groups did not reach statistical significance. Further research through prospective studies is essential.

Surgical treatment of neurovascular lesions like intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and arteriovenous dural fistulas is still associated with high morbidity. Several recent studies are providing increasing insights into reliable tools to improve surgery and reduce complications. Inadvertent vessel compromise and incomplete occlusion of the lesion represent the most possible complications in neurovascular surgery. It is clear that direct visual examination alone does not allow to identify all instances of vessel compromise. Various modalities, including angiography, microvascular Doppler and neurophysiological studies, have been utilized for hemodynamics of flow vessels in proper clipping of the aneurysm or complete obliteration of the lesion. We intended to review the current knowledge about the intraoperative microvascular Doppler (iMDS) employment in the most updated literature, and explore the most recent implications not only in intracranial aneurysms but also in neurovascular lesions like arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and arteriovenous dural fistulas (AVDFs). According to the PRISMA guidelines, systematic research in the most updated platform was performed in order to provide a complete overview about iMDS employment in neurovascular surgery. Twelve articles were included in the present paper and analyzed according to specific research areas. iMDS employment could represent a crucial tool to improve surgery in neurovascular lesions. The safety and effectiveness of the surgical treatment of neurovascular lesions like intracranial aneurysm and other neurovascular lesions like AVMs and AVDFs requires careful and accurate consideration regarding the assessment of anatomy and blood flow. Prognosis may depend on suboptimal or incomplete exclusion of the lesion.

In the field of minimally invasive neurosurgery, microscopic transsphenoidal surgery (MTS) and endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (ETS) have been widely accepted as a safe approach for pituitary lesions and, more recently, their indications have been extended to lesions at various skull base regions. It is mandatory during transsphenoidal surgery (TS) to identify key anatomical landmarks in the sphenoid sinus and distinguish them from the lesion. Over the years, many intraoperative tools have been introduced to improve the neuronavigation systems aiming to achieve safer and more accurate neurosurgical interventions. However, traditional neuronavigation systems may lose the accuracy of real-time location due to the discrepancy between the actual surgical field and the preoperative 2D images. To deal with this, augmented reality (AR)—a new sophisticated 3D technology that superimposes computer-generated virtual objects onto the user’s view of the real world—has been considered a promising tool. Particularly, in the field of TS, AR can minimize the anatomic challenges of traditional endoscopic or microscopic surgery, aiding in surgical training, preoperative planning and intra-operative orientation. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze the potential future role of augmented reality, both in endoscopic and microscopic transsphenoidal surgeries.

Background and Objectives: Uterine myomas represent one of the most prevalent pathologies affecting the female population. These benign neoplasms originate from the smooth muscular cells of the uterus, and they can be either single or multiple. Often associated with debilitating symptoms such as pelvic heaviness, pain, constipation, and urinary dysfunctions, the surgical management of myomectomy exhibits considerable variability. This diversity in approaches is influenced by factors such as the number and size of myomas, the patient’s age, and overall clinical conditions. This study aims to elucidate and compare the advantages and disadvantages of different surgical approaches, specifically endoscopic procedures versus open surgery, providing valuable insights for clinical decision making. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive bibliographic search spanning from 2013 to 2023 was systematically conducted across databases including Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and ClinicalTrials.gov. The search utilized keywords such as “myomectomy laparoscopic and open”, “myomectomy open and minimally invasive”, “myomectomy open and laparoscopic”, and “myomectomy open vs. laparoscopic.” The research methodology, along with predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, was established prior to the search, ensuring a systematic and rigorous approach. Subsequently, data analysis was carried out. Results: Following the study selection process, 25 articles met the eligibility criteria for inclusion in this analysis. The average numbers of myomas were 3.7 (ranging from 1 to 13.7) and 5.4 (ranging from 1 to 13.5) for the minimally invasive surgery and open surgery groups, respectively. In terms of myoma size, the total averages across studies were 7 cm (ranging from 4.8 to 14) for the minimally invasive group and 8 cm (ranging from 3.9 to 11.2) for the open surgery group. The average pregnancy and delivery rates were 29.7% (ranging from 1.8 to 100) for the minimally invasive group and 28.5% (ranging from 1.8 to 100) for the open surgery group. Regarding complications, the average rate was 14.2% (ranging from 0 to 50) for the endoscopic group and 22.3% (ranging from 0 to 60.3) for the laparotomic group. Conclusions: In conclusion, a critical factor influencing the choice of surgical approach is primarily the size and quantity of fibroids. The mini-laparotomic approach emerges as a viable alternative to endoscopy, demonstrating favorable surgical outcomes and aesthetic results. Interestingly, the type of surgical procedure appears to have no significant impact on the pregnancy rate.

We report measurements of the charged daughter fraction of 218Po as a result of the 222Rn alpha decay, and the mobility of 218Po+ ions, using radon-polonium coincidences from the 238U chain identified in 532 live-days of DarkSide-50 WIMP-search data. The fraction of 218Po that is charged is found to be 0.37 ± 0.03 and the mobility of 218Po+ is (8.6 ± 0.1) × 10−4 cmVs2.

The practical and easy detection of dopamine levels in human fluids, such as urine and saliva, is of great interest due to the correlation of dopamine concentration with several diseases. In this work, the onestep synthesis of water-soluble carbon nanoparticles (CNPs), starting from artichoke extract, containing catechol groups, for the fluorescence sensing of dopamine is reported. Size, morphology, chemical composition and electronic structure of CNPs were elucidated by DLS, AFM, XPS, FT-IR, EDX and TEM analyses. Their optical properties were then explored by UV-vis and fluorescence measurements in water. The dopamine recognition properties of these CNPs were investigated in water through fluorescence measurements and we observed the progressive enhancement of the CNP emission intensity upon the progressive addition of dopamine, with a binding affinity value of log K = 5.76 and a detection limit of 0.81 nM. Selectivity towards dopamine was tested over other interfering analytes commonly present in human saliva. Finally, in order to perform a solid point of care test, CNPs were adsorbed on a solid support and exposed to different concentrations of dopamine, thus observing a pseudo-linear response, using a smartphone as a detector. Therefore, the detection of dopamine in simulated human saliva was performed with excellent results, in terms of selectivity and a detection limit of 100 pM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
