Abstract

Radioactive $^{129}$Sb, which can be treated as a proton plus semi-magic $^{128}$Sn core within the particle-core coupling scheme, was studied by Coulomb excitation. Reduced electric quadrupole transition probabilities, $B(E2)$, for the $2^+$ $\times$ $\pi g_{{7/2}}$ multiplet members and candidate $\pi d_{{5/2}}$ state were measured. The results indicate that the total electric quadrupole strength of $^{129}$Sb is a factor of 1.39(11) larger than the $^{128}$Sn core, which is in stark contrast to the expectations of the empirically successful particle-core coupling scheme. Shell-model calculations performed with two different sets of nucleon-nucleon interactions suggest that this enhanced collectivity is due to constructive quadrupole coherence in the wavefunctions stemming from the proton-neutron residual interactions, where adding one nucleon to a core near a double-shell closure can have a pronounced effect. Abstract

Recently developed CRISM parameters and newly available DTMs are enabling refined characterization of the mineralogy at Mawrth Vallis. A stratigraphy including 5 units is mapped using HRSC DTMs across 100s of kms and using HiRISE DTMs across 100s of meters. Transitions in mineralogic units were characterized using spectral properties and surface morphology. The observations point to an ancient wet and warm geologic record that formed the thick nontronite unit, a period of wet/dry cycling to create acid alteration, followed by leaching or pedogenesis to result in Al-phyllosilicates, and finally a drier, colder climate that left the altered ash in the form of nanophase aluminosilicates, rather than crystalline clays.

Abstract

We introduce the AusTraits database - a compilation of values of plant traits for taxa in the Australian flora (hereafter AusTraits). AusTraits synthesises data on 448 traits across 28,640 taxa from field campaigns, published literature, taxonomic monographs, and individual taxon descriptions. Traits vary in scope from physiological measures of performance (e.g. photosynthetic gas exchange, water-use efficiency) to morphological attributes (e.g. leaf area, seed mass, plant height) which link to aspects of ecological variation. AusTraits contains curated and harmonised individual- and species-level measurements coupled to, where available, contextual information on site properties and experimental conditions. This article provides information on version 3.0.2 of AusTraits which contains data for 997,808 trait-by-taxon combinations. We envision AusTraits as an ongoing collaborative initiative for easily archiving and sharing trait data, which also provides a template for other national or regional initiatives globally to fill persistent gaps in trait knowledge.

Abstract

The genotype-phenotype link is a major research topic in the life sciences but remains highly complex to disentangle. Part of the complexity arises from the number of genes contributing to the observed phenotype. Despite the vast increase of molecular data, pinpointing the causal variant underlying a phenotype of interest is still challenging. In this study, we present an approach to map causal variation and molecular pathways underlying important phenotypes in pigs. We prioritize variation by utilizing and integrating predicted variant impact scores (pCADD), functional genomic information, and associated phenotypes in other mammalian species. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach by reporting known and novel causal variants, of which many affect non-coding sequences. Our approach allows the disentangling of the biology behind important phenotypes by accelerating the discovery of novel causal variants and molecular mechanisms affecting important phenotypes in pigs. This information on molecular mechanisms could be applicable in other mammalian species, including humans., Pattern Recognition and Bioinformatics

Item does not contain fulltext, The widespread promotion of management ideas, their regular inclusion in textbooks and business school curricula and their use in organizational change programs has engendered debates about the impact of these ideas on management and organizational practice. Based on analyses of managerial audience members' activities and related meaning-making prior to, during and after guru events with leading management thinkers, this book sheds new light on how management practitioners come to use management ideas in the different relevant contexts of their working lives. The authors argue that a broader, more differentiated and more dynamic view of managerial audiences is essential in understanding the impact of management ideas as well as the nature of contemporary managerial work. Abstract

Die Folgen des globalen Klimawandels sind in Deutschland schon heute spürbar, wie z. B. die kürzlich veröffentlichte Klimawirkungs- und Risikoanalyse des Bundes zeigt (Kahlenborn et al. 2021). Im Zuge der globalen Erwärmung sind die Durchschnittstemperaturen in den letzten 135 Jahren in Deutschland um etwa 1,4°C gestiegen, das ist circa ein halbes Grad mehr als im globalen Durchschnitt. Folge: Die Menschen in Deutschland sind zunehmend mit Unwetterschäden konfrontiert und, damit verbunden, mit steigenden finanziellen Belastungen. Das betrifft zum einen wachsende Sturmschäden (GDV 2019a), aber, häufig übersehen, auch zunehmende Schäden durch Starkregen (DWD 2019). Die Sommerflut im Ahrtal ist ein prägnantes Beispiel dafür.
