- Abstract
Objective: this review article suggests a state of the art approach to the philosophical, ethical, and phenomenological conception of the Sumak Kawsay concept in Kichwa Ecuadorian language in order to shed light on the dark areas in the contemporary discussion of the said concept. Method: a qualitative content analysis was carried out to group and systematize roughly 120 academic articles, book chapters, master's theses, and doctoral theses on the Sumak Kawsay concept from 2008 to 2018. Results: seven macro ways to interpret the Sumak Kawsay concept were identified, namely: a) as a way of life; b) as a post utopia; c) as an input of the Good-Living; d) as a neoextractivisim experiment; e) as an Andean Philosophy issue; f) as a political discursive construction; and g) as a decolonial device. Conclusions: the Sumak Kawsay concept has positioned itself in the national and international intelligentsia discourse as well as in the Ecuadorian Indigenous Movement discourse; particularly as a political, cultural, and decolonial project that can and must be achieved. The Sumak Kawsay interpretation as a way of life and is perhaps the most important one since it connects the Westernist interpretations with the ones of the culturalism style. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article analyzes the way food is used as an element of social cohesion and mobilization in rejection of the implementation of a shale gas extraction project in the municipality of Guasca, through the technique of fracking. In this case, a local organization called "Mountain Fortitude Community Association" uses the communitarian initiative (soup for all) not only as an element to mitigate hunger, but also as a means of visibility to the various conflicts that may arise from the development of an extractive practice. This way, positions in favor of the protection of food and territory and voices against it can be evidenced. This allows demonstrating that food is closely related to economic, cultural and political aspects of a given context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The art of good living or happiness (eudaimonia) was the center of concerns of many philosophers in the field of ethics. Of course, that the individual's welfare does not depend only on his choices, but on many factors that are beyond his control, such as having a place to live, work, social interactions and health conditions. The stoic philosophers directed their reflections to the changes that the subject can carry out in himself through practices and exercises that would constitute, in Foucault's words, the technologies of take care of yourself, in order to providing us with tranquility of the soul and mental stability. Currently, the care of the soul is largely left to psychologists, but we can still see many points of contact between Stoic philosophy and certain therapeutic practices. In this paper, we will present how the Stoics intended to carry out a philosophical therapy of the soul and how many of their philosophical ideas remain as foundations of certain currents of Psychology, particularly the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy of Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck. In addition, we will also explore the points of departure and speculate whether the philosophy of the Stoics still had something to tell us about good living in the contemporary world.

This paper aims to critically analyze the relevance of ethnography as an alternative work for degree qualification, which is referred to in the Regulation of the Academic Regime 2013, issued by the Higher Education Council, CES. The selection of ethnography as a method of research work will enable students to strengthen the research skills and develop their skills in real contexts of community service. The proposal has been preceded by experiences of qualitative research that were conducted in Institutional Academic Projects in vulnerable sectors of Milagro city, Ecuador, in 2012 and 2013. In that draft some techniques were applied such as participant observation, informal interview, and document analysis, these techniques go hand in hand with ethnography. The main purpose was to establish the causes of the low participation of people and their level of involvement in the educational process of their children, linked to a need to influence the improvement of the educational quality and quality of life. With research expertise and knowledge of the legal framework, it is expected to demonstrate the feasibility of intervention ethnography in socio-educational problems and the possible use as an alternative for Degree qualification in Education

In the face of global crises, various communities around the globe have been undertaking counter-hegemonic alternatives for social and productive organization. This essay takes up this premise, and through a narrative review of the academic literature and from a decolonial perspective, discusses the role of ecovillages within the pluriverse of alternatives, aiming to contribute to a critical reflection on the community confluence processes that strive to be both fair and ecological. It is understood that the socio-environmental practices of ecovillages, in confluence with the plurality of networked community alternatives, tend to represent a promising path for the necessary transition towards a fair and low-carbon society, in tune with the three-pronged dimensions of cultural identity, social equity and ecological sustainability associated with the communal ethics of Good Living.

In the text I intend to trace the outlines of the thought of the indigenous peoples organizations in Latin America in the last 40 years, who began the elaboration of demands for respect and support for the national states and today propose higher levels of self-management, autonomy, struggle for life and Mother Earth. Simultaneously and often in dialogue with the people mentioned, the main proposals of critical thinking in the anthropological, social and related fields, on the development, alternative development, and post-development sciences. Based on readings and interpretations of various texts on both subjects, personal experience in academic research and supporting local initiatives in Mexico and other countries, as well as the analysis of the processes of the past 10 years, some ways are proposed to continue the critical and reflective dialogue.

This article proposes to replenish the multidimensional and multi-scale character of the ecological issue embodied in the “good living” proposals of Ecuador and Bolivia by focusing on three aspects: i) the multiple meanings of nature that coexist in the regulations and national plans of both countries; ii) the statement about the interdependence and complementarity of the rights of nature relative to individual and collective rights, and iii) the circulation of these proposals from Latin America’s Andean region in the global arena.

The Amazon, that huge South American territory which accommodates two main dichotomies, abundance and violence, is permanently struggling between life and death. For a long time the immense Amazon rainforest was seen as a reserve of natural resources where the capital would go shopping as it pleased. The very complexity of this territory requires new perspectives and alternative proposals to prevent its potential devastation. This territory has a life of its own and generates new knowledge; the very same knowledge the Western model is trying to silence, which also explains why it has become a territory of resistance. It is a matter of urgency to think about global alternatives and, above all, places for the different problems before it is too late. Comprehensive answers are needed to move towards good living or sumak kawsay, and to enable us to consider a post-extractive and post-capitalist society. Decommodifying the Amazon is the pressing challenge.

- Abstract
Highlights • Rural and urban villages differed in the factors that influence people life satisfaction. • A rural–urban gradient was found regarding how people perceive the importance of ecosystems services. • Perception of local ecological knowledge and Kichwa language explained the rural–urban duality. • Expansion of urban lifestyles is altering the Kichwa worldview of human-nature relationships. Abstract Understanding sociocultural perceptions about human-nature relationships is essential to promote collective responses for sustainable ecosystem management. This study explores the sociocultural factors that influence subjective well-being (measured by life satisfaction) and how ecosystem services are perceived in an area inhabited by the Kichwa people, for whom the ancient notion of Good Living (Sumak Kawsay) is active. We carried out 482 surveys in five villages along a rural–urban gradient in the province of Imbabura (Ecuador). Rural and urban people differed in their subjective valuations of well-being components and the sociocultural factors that most influence life satisfaction. We also detected changes along the rural–urban gradient regarding how these sociocultural and subjective well-being factors explain the degree of importance that local people attribute to different ecosystems services provided by high Andean ecosystems. Formal education, the perception of local ecological knowledge, and the use of the Kichwa language were identified as important sociocultural factors that explain the observed differences. Finally, we discuss the risks of the ongoing expansion of urban lifestyles for the conservation of Andean social-ecological systems, highlighting the importance of maintaining traditional practices and beliefs associated with the Kichwa culture. - Abstract
In 2008, Ecuador reformed its Constitution after a prolonged period of economic, social and political crises. The momentary rupturing of power structures, that had limited political participation to small clusters of elites, opened participatory spaces for historically marginalised social groups to engage in the process of constitutional drafting. As a result of this unprecedented political shift in participation and inclusiveness, alternative notions of cultural, social and economic rights surfaced. This progressive constitutionalism is thus a novel attempt at overcoming legal formalism in favour of a Living Law , a law that embraces the contextual settings where it will be applied by scrutinising the historic power structures that have moulded it. Good Living as a legal principle underlines the enactment of a Living Law. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Medellin is one of the cities, which annually reports one of the highest indicators of concentration of wealth in the world. This means that poverty is a factor that has an impact on people's lives, which in large part it could explain the problems of exclusion and violence. A look from the anthropology of poverty allows to recognize the contributions of social movements, which from different perspectives have been developed and which have generated critical and emancipatory alternatives. This paper aims to make an anthropological look at poverty in Medellin by taking into account some contributions of the Franciscan thought and social experiences, which have influenced good living. VIOLENCE against women , *DOMESTIC violence ,MEXICAN indigenous women - Abstract
Domestic violence is an issue of primordial importance for indigenous women in Mexico. Organized indigenous women seek to promote gender equity in the broader framework of respect for their culture, despite traditions and customs that are pervaded with gender hierarchy. This article presents elements for reflecting on this issue based on the analysis of people's relation to maize in a Nahua community of the State of Guerrero, Mexico. Using three traditional narratives, it shows how maize -which is considered a feminine member of the House (in the Levi-Straussian sense)- embodies fundamental values of non-violence towards women. Since maize is at the very basis of economic and familial life, its highlypositive "differential value" (in the sense of Héritier) has a transformative potential that can be used creatively in the struggle against gendered violence. This potential is analyzed here through such indigenous concepts as gender complementarity and Good Living, with special attention given to women's voices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article proposes to attribute to Political Geography a stimulating and intercultural dialogue with territorialities of indigenous peoples, in the sense of becoming collaborative towards the social struggles for territory. We start from Political Geography to discuss how the analysis tools and spatial practices of r-Existence (exist to resist as indigenous persons) can become weapons in the struggle for social justice. The main objective of this study has been the analysis of the Guarani and Kaiowá struggles for the tekoha’s land recognition and regularization. The study has been guided by fieldwork, interviews, conversations, bibliographic research, records and activities in villages and camps. These indigenous peoples build multi/transterritorialities of r-Existence against the denial of rights or the State’s deconstitutionality, against the Brazilian authoritarian administration, and the violent, dispossessing, neo-developmentalist, and neo-extractivist dynamics of neoliberal globalization in the corporate territories of agribusiness. Tekoha is the spatiality that embodies and shapes the Guarani lifestyle, through its ancestral relationship and community practices, such as teko porã, in the struggle for rights.

Grey spring or spring without flowers, without colours ¿due to the massive disparition of bees and with them the key action to pollination¿ is a reflection on the necessity and urgency to manage environmentally the world. Precisely on this subject our vital and beloved professor Demetrio Loperena Rota used to stand out, whose memory and good work help to straighten out the environmental governance. This work, after explaining the importance of ecosistemic services of pollination that are mainly carried out by bees and the causes of its deterioration, proposes solutions to deal with the so alarming lost of biodiversity. The proposal to respond to the challege of the crisis of biodiversity sets limits to the expansion of the economic sphere albeit as a conservationist strategy, by means of a renewed colective regulaton on the uses of territories and their ecosistemic services, predicting a good life for all of them.

This article examines the concept of live well-good living, by analyzing its contributions and limitations. This worldview has a normative horizon more ambitious than the development paradigm, as it wagers for a poverty and wealth conception that is not limited to the accumulation of material goods, but it is an economy aware of its effects on nature and the satisfaction of needs and the decolonizing of knowledge. Nevertheless, it is characterized by an operationalization deficit that is shown through the difficulty to establish specific policies and accurate indicators of measurement.

- Abstract

- Abstract
Environmental issues such as the progressive loss of biodiversity on a global scale and climate change cannot be separated from other territorial problems caused by social injustice, economic inequality, access to natural resources, gender violence and the fight for human and nature’s rights. The evaluation of biodiversity management strategies must by necessity draw on a retrospective look at the interpretation of the problem and the conceptual approach of the general territorial management policies in which they are framed. From a critical view, these approaches have different nuances depending on the historical journey, theories and main actors involved with territorial policies in different regions of the world. In this work, we apply qualitative content analysis to contrast the key concepts on which the main European territorial policies of recent decades have been based with the main guidelines of the emerging Latin American territorial perspectives. Thus, we seek to initiate a dialogue between the northern hemisphere’s globally hegemonic notions of nature, territory, biodiversity and its management and new theories and proposals from the South, whilst simultaneously contrasting both with the content of the latest Convention on Biological Biodiversity Strategic Plan 2011–2020. We conclude with some recommendations aimed at building bridges and contributing to the construction of future global conservation strategies from a critical and territorial perspective that tends towards integrating sustainability with social and environmental justice.

139. La paz como finalidad del constitucionalismo ecuatoriano

- Abstract
Since 2008, the Ecuadorian constitutional framework has been transformed. The rule of law model was replaced by the “rule of rights and justice” model. The change of constitutional paradigm goes beyond the argumentative rhetoric of law: it implies a change in its very purpose. This paper analyses the constitutional currents that point towards the transformation of law as a legal science and that pursue peace as a higher goal. The Ecuadorian Constitution, in Article 11.6 and in the chapter corresponding to the “rights of good living”, establishes the necessary elements to guarantee the satisfaction of rights and the organisation of the State based on social justice. However, pragmatic solutions are required to guarantee the exercise of rights. In this paper, through the application of inductive, historical, logical and analytical methods, the aim is to show that in Ecuador there is a lack of institutional tools to materialise the rights established in the Constitution of Montecristi. It is also necessary to strengthen the existing mechanisms for citizen participation, given that State institutions are sometimes prone to committing violations of collective rights., A partir del año 2008 el marco constitucional ecuatoriano se transformó.

- Abstract
World Social Forums and Good Livings are the two theoretical-practical experiences to which, as a result of his reformulation of epistemic-normative pluralism, the sociologist Boaventura de Sousa Santos is linked in order to open other worlds and other lives. Taking his prioritization of the consequences before the causes, this article thinks about the real incidence of these two peripheral challenges (both arise from the Latin American south) in the lives of the nobodies. With such a goal, it sets up a critical reflection on both proposals, through a gradual approach, firstly, to their definition; secondly, to the implications of these journeys towards a corresponding transformation of Philosophy from the peripheries; and thirdly, to the concrete question of their factual effectiveness on the finite and suffering bodies of the victims. Transformations or reforms?

- Abstract
Good living is more than a way of life of Andean peoples: it is a philosophy, a cosmovision and a form of resistance to the Western model, but they are not the only communities that find answers to daily and social problems and to the manifestations of nature in their millenary wisdom. On the other hand, globalization is the main tool of consumerism that demands unnecessary products, which require the irrational use of natural resources. Consumerism originates waste and squandering. In the throwaway culture, everything ends up in the trash: in the earth or in the oceans. Thus, globalization is at odds with good living, which has as its most important principle: the care of nature. This relationship between globalization and good living, can be redirected for a rapprochement between native cultures and a joint action in an attempt to improve the relationship of human beings with nature. It can also be the platform that makes viable the popular and solidarity economy of good living based on the fair exchange of products.

- Abstract
Sumak kawsay socialism, or good living socialism, is one of the three schools of political thought of sumak kawsay which first appeared in the first decade of the twenty-first century. The idea of good living is currently re-emerging in debates on how to build a new post-pandemic world. Sumak kawsay socialism, however, has remained on the sidelines of the political landscape and academic discussions. In its place, twenty-first century socialism has once again reappeared as the socialist proposal to create and organize a new system. This paper will analyze which practical and theoretical weaknesses and contradictions have led to the disappearance of good living socialism from political and intellectual debates. It concludes that intellectuals from different branches of socialism used sumak kawsay/good living as a “key symbol” to take advantage of the social, economic, political, and environmental situation in Ecuador and Bolivia in order to seize power., El socialismo sumak kawsay, o socialismo del buen vivir, es una de las tres corrientes políticas del buen vivir que aparecieron durante la primera década del siglo xxi.

There are several risk and vulnerability factors that in a particular way exponentially affect the life and exercise of the rights of Jiw women in the municipalities of Mapiripán and Puerto Concordia - Meta; Among these factors are the actions of Armed Groups Organized on the Margins of the Law, which due to the armed conflict and territorial disputes over the drug trafficking business, have displaced the JIW from their ancestral territories, leading them to live with settlers who they live close to their new settlements; This has generated a cultural shock, which has led indigenous women to prostitution, drug use and begging, seriously affecting the customs of the JIW, but also impacting their stance of good living; which we will analyze from the issuance of order 173 of 2012 of the Honorable Constitutional Court, through which it established precautionary measures for the special protection and guarantee of the fundamental rights of the JIW and Nukak people in the department of Meta and Guaviare. It is necessary to analyze and make visible these situations that violate the Human rights of JIW women, through videos, interviews and photographs, which allow evidence of this serious situation, so that government entities strengthen their institutional framework in favor of improving care and guarantee the rights of JIW women, as well as so that international cooperation entities generate actions in an articulated manner to materialize the concept of good living in them. The development of Institutional Welfare as a concept has been directly linked to the development theories of capitalism, as well as sharing relevant aspects of Eurocentrism. In this research, we intend to rethink the current Welfare Policy Guidelines for Higher Education Institutions, issued by the Ministry of Higher Education of Colombia, taking as inspiration elements present in the Buen Vivir, a way of life and conception of the universe that is manifested mainly in the Andean peoples. This Andean worldview has currently permeated various social, academic and even constitutional spaces, as is the case mainly in the countries of Bolivia and Ecuador. In this sense, this research asks what would be the main elements of the current Welfare Policy Guidelines for Higher Education Institutions in Colombia
