The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to make an analysis of a cultural and historical influence on a China's position and behaviour in international relations. The work examines the period of Chinese modern times, particularly the second half of the twentieth century. The main selected characteristics of Chinese philosophy and culture are applied on the Chinese foreign policy; the analysis and application of Geert Hofstede's cultural paradigms for Chinese culture is included as well. The main selected aspects of Chinese history and their influence are analysed after that, both in the given period and in present. The conclusion summarises the influence of these factors on Chinese foreign policy and assesses whether this influence is significant. It also contains the evaluation whether the observed influence complies with the reality, it means whether the theory of Chinese foreign policy corresponds with its practice.

This thesis deals primarily with mexican business and diplomatic protocol, with determination of particular basic terms, that are related not only to business and diplomatic protocol. Also state protocol and local states protocols in Mexico are briefly described in this Bachelor thesis.

Tato práce zkoumá vzájemné vazby mezi kulturou, společenskými normami a principy, sociální diversifikací a politikou Mexika. Jejím hlavním cílem je určení, do jaké míry se latinskoamerická kultura promítá do politického vývoje Mexika. Při charakteristice mexické kultury vychází z výzkumů Geerta Hofstedeho a jeho kulturních dimenzí. Odpovídá na otázku, co vedlo k tomu, že politický vývoj Mexika byl zcela odlišný od vývoje ostatních zemí latinskoamerické kultury. Analyzuje kulturní podmíňenost faktorů, které zapřičinily to, že Mexiku vládla po sedm desetiletí jediná politická strana ? Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), aniž by se jednalo o diktaturu. Dochází k závěru, že tato nevídaná stabilita není v rozporu s kulturními dimenzemi, ale že PRI dokázala vhodně využít kulturně daný charakter mexické společnosti, vyznačující se vysokou mírou sociální diversifikace. Vytvořila specifický politický systém, v dané kultuře fungující. K jeho změně pak docházelo postupně, s tím jak se proměňoval charakter mexické společnosti. V souvislosti s dynamickým vývojem mexické společnosti následně předpovídá změny kulturních dimenzí.

Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es, eine Abgrenzung des Modells von Geert Hofstede zu anderen Kulturtheorien zu ermitteln und ferner die Diskussion um das Hofstedesche Kulturmodell aufzuarbeiten. Darauf aufbauend soll die Anwendbarkeit und Gültigkeit des Hofstedeschen Ansatzes geprüft werden, da dieser aufgrund seiner Sonderposition nicht selten ungeprüfte Anwendung erfährt. Die zentrale Frage ist demnach, ob geäußerte Kritiken und Schwachstellen Bestand haben und das Modell einer tatsächlichen Überarbeitung bedarf. Diese Fragestellung wird vor allem mit Blick auf das internationale Management beantwortet. Unterziel ist es, die Nutzbarmachung der Modelldaten für die praktische Anwendung darzulegen. Grundlegend für diese Diplomarbeit ist die Frage, welche tatsächliche Stellung die Kulturtheorie von Geert Hofstede heute einnimmt und inwiefern sie gültig Daten zur Verfügung stellt.

Nowadays the world is becoming increasingly economically connected, and cultural diversity of employees is gaining importance as a crucial competitive advantage. Cross-cultural communication ability is becoming a key management skill in multinational firms and is equally important for other employees who are exposed to other cultures in the workplace. This work mainly focuses on cultural specifics of management in multinational firms. The goal of this thesis is to discover how different national cultures influence management of people, particularly work relationships, management tools and organization structures. The author discovers this through cultural dimensions that she updates for the Czech Republic and Slovakia for her work using methodology of Fons Trompenaars. The author tests three hypotheses: about the development of preferences of cultural dimensions in time, differences in preferences of cultural dimensions of Czechs and Slovaks and differences in preferences of cultural dimensions based on people's gender, age and the number of years spent abroad. The work also presents mapping of changes of attitudes in specific work and personal situations of Czechs and Slovaks over a period of time. The work additionally analyzes the influence of economic factors on work attitudes and preferences of cultural dimensions and identifies areas of potential conflicts between the cultures of Czechs and Slovaks in the workplace. It also compares results with other researches about cultural dimensions and cultural standards. The work concludes by presenting culturally specific recommendations for management of Czechs and Slovaks.

(The Language of Press Inside and Outside the Visegrad Group based on Poland and the United Kingdom). The objective of this article is to present the results of a research into cultural differences occurring between the countries con- stituting the Visegrad Group and the other countries from the European Union. The examples concern Polish culture and British culture. The research material comprises front pages of two national dailies, namely “Gazeta Wyborcza” and “The Guardian”. The investigation includes 20 editions of both dailies printed between January and February 2010. The study will be based on traditional content analysis methods. Attention will be paid to the frequency of occurrence of elements, such as articles, themes, section names, adver- tisements and photographs. Also the information on attribution of the texts will be subject to analysis. Moreover, the average size of texts will be established. Finally, the observed differences will be put into the theoretical framework of Edward T. Hall’s division of societies into high-context and low-context cultures. The conclusions will also concern one of Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, namely the dimension of uncertainty avoidance. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań dotyczących różnic kulturo- wych występujących pomiędzy krajami Grupy Wyszehradzkiej a innymi krajami Unii Europejskiej. Przedstawione przykłady dotyczyć będą kultury polskiej oraz kultury bry- tyjskiej. Materiał badawczy stanowić będą pierwsze strony dwóch ogólnokrajowych dzienników: „Gazety Wyborczej” oraz „The Guardian”. Analizie poddane zostanie 20 wy- dań z przełomu stycznia i lutego 2010 roku. Badanie przeprowadzone zostanie za pomocą narzędzi analizy zawartości. Uwagę skupi- my na częstotliwości występowania poszczególnych elementów (m.in. artykułów i poru- szanych w nich tematów, nazw działów, reklam oraz fotografii). Analizie poddane będą również informacje o autorze tekstu. Policzona zostanie także średnia objętość tekstów. Następnie zaobserwowane różnice ujęte zostaną w ramy teorii Edwarda T. Halla dotyczą- cej podziału kultur na wysokokontekstowe i niskokontekstowe. Pod uwagę wzięty zosta- nie również jeden z wymiarów kultury Geerta Hofstedego, mianowicie wymiar unikania niepewności.

This article outlines different stages in development of the national culture model, created by Geert Hofstede and his affiliates. This paper reveals and synthesizes the contemporary review of the application spheres of this framework. Numerous applications of the dimensions set are used as a source of identifying significant critiques, concerning different aspects in model’s operation. These critiques are classified and their underlying reasons are also outlined by means of a fishbone diagram.
