We present a novel approach for actively controlling electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) analogs in a single-mode microstrip cavity. This cavity is side-coupled with a pair of varactor-loaded split-ring resonators (SRRs). The EIT-like effect is achieved through resonance hybridization between the paired SRRs with frequency detuning. The microstrip cavity is utilized to enhance the EIT-like transmission properties, including Q-factor and group delay. Varactor diodes, soldered at the gap of the SRRs, are biased electrically through a DC voltage source. This dynamic modulation setup allows for the tuning of the enhanced EIT analog. Experimental results demonstrate that the enhanced EIT-like transmission spectrum can be tuned reversibly by 378 MHz with respect to the transmission dip frequency of 2.464 GHz under the bias voltage ranging from 0 to 5 V. Simultaneously, the controlled transmission spectrum enables a remarkable change in group delay of 10.9 ns. Moreover, the modulation amplitude of the composite SRRs-cavity structure reaches a peak value of up to 34.5 dB, significantly higher than the 6.4 dB of the individual SRRs pair. INTRODUCTION: Daytime napping is frequently seen in older adults. The longitudinal relationship between daytime napping and cognitive aging is unknown. METHODS: Using data from 1401 participants of the Rush Memory and Aging Project, we examined the longitudinal change of daytime napping inferred objectively by actigraphy, and the association with incident Alzheimers dementia during up to 14-year follow-up. RESULTS: Older adults tended to nap longer and more frequently with aging, while the progression of Alzheimers dementia accelerates this change by more than doubling the annual increases in nap duration/frequency. Longer and more frequent daytime naps were associated with higher risk of Alzheimers dementia. Interestingly, more excessive (longer or more frequent) daytime napping was correlated with worse cognition a year later, and conversely, worse cognition was correlated with more excessive naps a year later. DISCUSSION: Excessive daytime napping and Alzheimers dementia may possess a bidirectional relationship or share common pathophysiological mechanisms.

Collaborative argumentation (CA) is a prolific but challenging form of collaborative learning that requires group members to engage in a quantity of regulation to sustain the group's productive functioning. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between the high- and low-performing CA groups in terms of (a) challenges and triggered social regulation during CA, and (b) sequential patterns of social regulation used by those groups. From that, this research aimed to reveal what may promote or constrain CA from the perspective of social regulation. The target groups were selected from a larger sample of 14 groups based on the groups' argument diagram scores after they participated in a 90-min CA activity. Videos and interview data were collected and analyzed to reveal the encountered challenges and social regulation in the activity. Several findings were obtained. First, the low-performing groups encountered far more challenges and the biggest difference between the high- and low-performing groups was the socio-emotional challenges. Second, more challenges were regulated in low-performing groups, with more cognitive and socio-emotional challenges being regulated and less motivational challenges being handled. For cognitive challenges, the effective strategies to deal with the deadlock in reaching an agreement were identified among high-performing groups. For socio-emotional challenges, although more have been regulated in low-performing groups, the tense atmosphere made social regulation less successful. For motivational challenges, low-performing groups paid little attention to other members' participation. Third, the high- and low-performing groups demonstrated different sequential patterns, such as more transitions related to socio-emotional regulation and evaluation in high-performing groups. Pedagogical implications and the need to support students to cope with socio-emotional challenges are discussed in the last.

To mitigate the impact of oscillations on new energy power systems， it is crucial to assess the system stability state online and identify weak points susceptible to oscillations for proactive measures. To achieve this， two methods for locating weak points in new energy power systems are proposed， each from the perspectives of frequency domain characteristics and time-domain responses of the ports. The frequency domain method involves evaluating the system’s stability state based on the impedance characteristics of the ports at new energy substations， pinpointing weak substations according to the magnitude of the real part of the impedance at each substation. The time-domain method involves actively injecting a wideband small disturbance signal and utilizing the HHT （Hilbert-Huang transform） to analyze the current response at each port of new energy substations. Damping ratios of weak modes are extracted， and weak substations are located based on their magnitudes. The effectiveness of these location methods is validated using a small-scale new energy system composed of three wind farms. The results indicate that both methods accurately identify weak points in the system oscillations.

The evaporation characteristic of desulfurization wastewater is an important indicator for determining the process parameters of three effect evaporation. Through evaporation experiments，the relationship between the evaporation rate of desulfurization wastewater and the solid content，salt content and density of wastewater was studied，and the discharge concentration under the optimal operation state of the system was determined. The experimental results showed that low solid content of desulfurization wastewater was conducive to wastewater evaporation，solid particles in the wastewater could provide crystal seeds for salt crystallization，particle scouring reduces the risk of tube scaling，considering evaporation efficiency and reducing the risk of tube scaling，the recommended solid content of influent water was 4%.The evaporation rate of desulfurization wastewater decreases with the increase of salt concentration. Moreover，the higher the salt concentration was，the faster the evaporation rate decreased，which may be related to solution viscosity，solution surface tension and ion hydration number. The evaporation rate of desulfurization wastewater is negatively related to the solution density. When the solution density exceeded 1 400 kg/m3，the evaporation rate decreased significantly and the energy consumption increased significantly. Considering the efficient operation of the system and the filter press effect，it recommended 1 400 kg/m3 of the discharge density. The concentration ratio was an important indicator of the process design of the low-temperature three effect evaporation system. The concentration ratio was negatively related to the solid content of raw water. The concentration ratio should be determined according to the solid content of raw water and the discharge density to complete the overall design of the three-effect evaporation system.

Socio-emotional interaction is considered a crucial factor that may affect the effectiveness and efficiency of collaborative argumentation and deserves further exploration. This study explored what temporal and sequential patterns of socio-emotional interaction could promote or hinder productive collaborative argumentation by comparing the differences between four high- and four low-performing groups. The 8 target groups were selected from a larger sample of 14 groups according to their scores of groups' argument maps after participating in a 90-min collaborative argumentation activity. Using content analysis method, groups' video recordings were coded and analyzed. The results indicated several differences between the high- and low-performing groups. First, more positive socio-emotional interactions were found in the high-performing groups while more negative socio-emotional interactions were discovered in the low-performing groups. Second, using smiles or laughter to express disagreement (P2) and interrupting others (N1) were more essential factors that may affect argumentation quality in the Chinese context. Third, temporal analysis suggested that in low-performing groups, the sharp rise in negative socio-emotional interactions may be provoked by more cognitive interactions in the initial phase that aimed to persuade opponents. Fourth, sequential analysis showed that repeated negative interactions in low-performing groups may lead to a negative atmosphere and thus, made the increasing tension less likely to be relieved by positive interactions. Whereas in high-performing groups, frequent transitions between positive socio-emotional interactions helped create a positive atmosphere, which could avoid conflict escalation and resolve the potential tension caused by negative interactions. Finally, pedagogical implications were suggested.

Conceptualising peer assessment as a dialogue is expected to bring many benefits for learners. However, open-ended dialogue still faces many challenges in learning effectiveness because superficial feedback contents, resistance to critical thinking and distrust of peers' assessments may negatively affect learners' performance in their interactions. This study created regulation scripts for dialogic peer assessment, which not only engaged learners in meaningful dialogues through prompt questions, but also guided them to establish shared goals and monitor their collaboration processes. To verify their effectiveness, a quasi-experimental study was performed with 34 undergraduate students in an authentic learning environment. Learners in the experimental groups were required to exchange feedback information in stages involving case evaluation, group dialogic feedback and individual reflection with the support of regulation scripts, while learners in the control groups completed the same experimental process with general scripts. The quantitative data showed that the experimental groups achieved better development in climate of trust and critical thinking. In terms of feedback quality, however, there was no significant difference between the two groups.

With rapid development of sequencing technology and the continuous accumulation of biological big data, people who are capable of using bioinformatic skills to analyze omics data and work out biological problems are urgently needed in the workforce, which highlights the importance of developing bioinformatics skills early in the undergraduate curriculum. Meanwhile, course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) courses have been proved to be an effective teaching format that have many advantages over traditional labs and lectures. Here we introduced an implementation of CURE course of bioinformatics data analysis and visualization for undergraduate students in major of bioinformatics and evaluated the learning outcomes. We were able to address 10 out of 15 core competencies identified by Network for Integrating Bioinformatics into Life Sciences Education. Besides, results evaluated by Laboratory Course Assessment Survey demonstrated the goals of collaboration, discovery and relevance, and iteration were accomplished in our course. Meanwhile, a significant increase in scores of final examinations and a long-term improvement on students' research ability on bioinformatics data analysis and visualization were also observed. In summary, this CURE course is useful for undergraduate students learning related knowledge and participate in authentic research in the field of bioinformatics.
