A personal narrative is presented which explores his experiences in joining local rose society shows, his rose gardens tours in Europe after his retirement in 1983, and his correspondence with horticulturalist Graham Thomas.

Many botanical gardens in the European Union are also elite institutions worldwide significance in botanical research, plant conservation, education and horticulture. They include more than 100 germplasm banks, which not only conserves collections of spontaneous, but also species of agricultural interest, being one of the most important genetic reserves in the world. Botanical gardens have played an important role in many cultures and civilizations throughout the ages. They fulfill various roles and functions so that it is not easy to define what a botanical garden. However, a convenient definition is that they are institutions which documented collections of living plants kept for purposes of scientific research, conservation, monitoring and education Botanic Gardens Conservation International 1999. Strengthening the major centers of botanical gardens as systematics and taxonomy research in plant taxonomy provides the basis for all applied and integrated approaches to science and plant species and habitat protection or management programs. The importance of placing the subject in numerous taxonomic and conservation of biological diversity permissive custom has been made in the Global Taxonomical Initiative. Guarded and important documentary artifacts, structures and collections of historical and cultural heritage is a rich and varied extensive collections held in botanic gardens. An important biological inheritance is kept in an extensive collection of botanical gardens, plants, bringing together plants from widely separated locations and often inaccessible to study in controlled conditions. Promote botanic gardens as a tourist attraction in most countries with well-developed botanical gardens regard as important tourist wealth. Many now rely on income from visitors who pay to visit these gardens. Larger institutions have sections of public relations and marketing who employ trained personnel, but in smaller gardens such promotion is carried out by untrained employees specifically for this work. Abstract: Although more than 5000 gardens are open to the public in Great Britain, the practice of visiting private gardens has been little researched compared with other types of attraction and open spaces. This paper presents results of an investigation of small private gardens that are occasionally opened to the public. Owing to its scale and national prominence, the NGS (National Gardens Scheme) was used as the basis for exploratory research focusing on smaller domestic private gardens in suburban or village settings. In the light of empirical studies, the characteristics and motivations of garden owners and of visitors are discussed, as well as community benefits that are indisputably part of the garden tourism in villages and suburbs. Results show that small private gardens are attractive to many people, not just those with a specific interest in gardening, but also those looking for a pleasant day out. A growing sense of community was noted in villages where private gardens are open, as was the importance of wanting to share the pleasure in gardening. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Dr. Dalila Spiritos Santos, director of the Ajuda Botanic Garden or the Jardin Botanique de Ajuda, discussed the history of the garden which consists of essentially exotic plants. It mentions some of the oak species featured in the garden including Quercus petraea, Quercus faginea, and Quercus lusitanica.

The author states that Dumont has expanded his Belgian oak collection in France in 1999 and he wanted a warmer climate to plant the tender plants. Understanding the needs and wants of consumers in the process of new product development has been recognized as an essential aspect of preparing effective marketing strategies for the success of business. The new product development strategy has now moved into Consumer-Driven Innovation (CDI), which not only asks consumers about their needs and wants but actually involves them in the product design, promotion, and even assessment processes. Informed by the new concept of CDI, this study aims at identifying to what extent visitors as tourism product consumers and co-producers can be involved in a new product development process and reinvent the products by providing ideas and suggestions with their own creative insights. More specifically, using data collected from a trip diary and an online survey with 273 respondents, this article examines visitor assessment on a newly launched product, Quilt Gardens TourSM, in Northern Indiana's Amish Country. The data were analyzed using geo-visualization of tourist spatiotemporal mobility, descriptive statistics, and qualitative analysis of visitors' descriptions. The results show that the visitors are central role players in a new product development process, adding their creativity to the tour itinerary and design elements. In this paper, we propose an improved positioning technology which combines indoor and outdoor positioning technologies for garden tour guiding system. The outdoor positioning technology adopts the method of relative interpolation to improve GPS positioning accuracy; while in the case of outdoor positioning and when the GPS signal is not strong enough, the RSSI-based positioning technology by the triangle's circumcenter is put in use to ensure that the location information service is in time. Experiments show that, with this technology, the positioning accuracy can reach less than 5 meters in average, which can better meet the positioning demands of garden tour guiding system.
