Abstract

37th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 228-232, For the current PV production about 2000 tons of silver are consumed per year. This is already 10% of the entire world annual silver supply. The PV production is expected to grow significantly in the next decades in order to enable the energy transition to 100% renewables. Annual production volumes in the terawatt range are predicted already for 2030 and this may lead to higher silver price and put more pressure on the industry to replace silver by copper. With the currently available processes the cost advantage of copper plating over screen printing is relatively small and the implementation of plating in production is slowed down by the high up-front investment for equipment. The highest cost share of the process sequence has the patterning and research activities focus on new, i.e. more cost competitive patterning techniques. Within the Ameliz project several approaches are investigated: firstly, patterning by printing a metal seed grid with a dielectric layer as plating mask and secondly masking by a monolayer of self-assembling molecules. These molecules consist of a phosphonic acid group and a hydrocarbon chain. They are bonded to the ITO surface and form a monolayer of well-ordered, densely packed hydrophobic chains, which protects the ITO surface against plating solutions. Furthermore, methods for selective formation of a copper seed layer by electrografting and for improved adhesion by ITO reduction are being investigated.

Abstract

The performance of a new Photonis XP1472 ninechannel photomultiplier (PMT) was studied with the main emphasis to the photoelectron numbers and photoelectron collection efficiency, as measured with a 10 mm diameter NaI(TI) crystal coupled to the separate channels. Simultaneously, energy resolution and crosstalk were measured for all channels with a a37Cs source. Time jitter and time resolution for an LSO crystal coupled to the different channels were measured for 511 keV annihilation quanta and compared to those measured earlier with XP2020Q PMTs. The studies confirmed high photoelectron collection efficiency in the PMT due to a new design of the input focalization system. Abstract

Deslorelin implants are widely used in felines. Due to their prolonged duration cat breeders frequently request early implant removal. The interval between deslorelin implant removal and resumption of ovarian function in queens is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the interval between the removal of a deslorelin implant and the resumption of ovarian activity in adult queens. Twenty‐three queens were treated with a 4.7 mg deslorelin implant placed in the periumbilical area. In the 16 queens completing the study implants were surgically removed at 3, 6 or 9 months (n = 6, 4 and 6 queens, respectively). Queens received a GnRH stimulation test as part of their pre‐treatment general and reproductive health check. Following implantation treatment, all queens in inter‐oestrus–anoestrus at the time of treatment came in oestrus within 2–5 days. Starting 7–14 days following implant removal queens were checked every 1–2 weeks with reproductive ultrasonography, a vaginal smear and blood collection. The interval to resumption of ovarian function ranged from 3 to 7 weeks irrespective of treatment length and age of the queen but was longer when the implant was removed at decreasing photoperiod (p <.05). In conclusion, at least 3 weeks post‐removal are needed during increasing photoperiod to achieve follicular development and oestrogen production sufficient to support oestrous behaviour in queens following removal of a 4.7 mg deslorelin implant, while this time may increase up to 7 weeks during decreasing photoperiod. Further studies are needed to assess the interval between removal of a deslorelin implant and occurrence of ovulation as well as fertility at the first oestrus after a deslorelin treatment. Abstract

Raman scattering measurements on low temperature GaAs layers were presented. The transition from diluted As in the GaAs matrix to the small As clusters formed after annealing was examined. Transmission electron microscopy enabled the quantitative measurement of the strain and confinement effect of c-As clusters of low temperature GaAs. This suggested the possibility of using the nondestructive optical probe at room temperature to quickly determine the mean cluster diameter, which was shown to be a significant parameter for the electrical and optical properties of low temperature III-V materials.

The mechanism of the two-phase Brust–Schiffrin synthesis of alkane thiol protected metal nanoparticles has been shown to be highly sensitive to the precursor species and reactant conditions., The mechanism of the two-phase Brust–Schiffrin synthesis of alkane thiol protected metal nanoparticles is known to be highly sensitive to the precursor species and reactant conditions. In this work X-ray absorption spectroscopy is used in conjunction with liquid/liquid electrochemistry to highlight the significance of Br– in the reaction mechanism. The species [AuBr4]– is shown to be a preferable precursor in the Brust–Schiffrin method as it is more resistant to the formation of Au(i) thiolate species than [AuCl4]–. Previous literature has demonstrated that avoidance of the Au(i) thiolate is critical to achieving a good yield of nanoparticles, as [Au(i)X2]– species are more readily reduced by NaBH4. We propose that the observed behavior of [AuBr4]– species described herein explains the discrepancies in reported behavior present in the literature to date. This new mechanistic understanding should enable nanoparticle synthesis with a higher yield and reduce particle size polydispersity.
