Patients and methods: After having modified two items, we administered the Italian version of PDI to all patients hospitalized in a public psychiatric ward (Service of Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment of a northern Italian town), who provided their consent and completed it at discharge, from October 21, 2015 to May 31, 2016. We excluded minors and patients with moderate/severe dementia, with poor knowledge of Italian language, who completed PDI in previous hospitalizations and/or were hospitalized for 1 (Kaiser’s criterion), which explained >80% of total variance with good internal consistency: 1) “Loss of self-identity and social role”, 2) “Anxiety and uncertainty for future” and 3) “Loss of personal autonomy”. The PDI and the three-factor scores were statistically significantly positively correlated with the Hamilton Scales for Depression and Anxiety but not with other scale scores. Conclusion: Our preliminary research suggests that PDI can be a reliable tool to assess patients’ dignity perception in a psychiatric setting, until now little investigated, helping professionals to improve quality of care and patients to accept treatments. Technology, in particular augmented reality (AR), has the potential to greatly enhance interactive learning environments for mathematics in both classrooms and other teaching environments. The purpose of the present study was to investigate existing literature on AR in mathematics education. We selected papers from 10 databases, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, ERIC, IEEE Xplore Digital Library, Teacher Reference Center, SpringerLink, zbMATH Open, Taylor & Francis Online Journals, JSTOR, and MathSciNet. From these databases, 42 related studies were selected by the method of preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA2020). The results from all the papers showed positive outcomes as a result of AR implementation in mathematics education. They were also analyzed into different themes according to quantitative and qualitative criteria. The advantages and challenges of AR usage in mathematics education are also discussed in detail.

The aims of this study were as follows: 1) to examine the frequency and characteristics of WPV in different settings and professionals of a general hospital and 2) to identify the clinical and organizational factors related to this phenomenon. Methods: The study was cross-sectional. In a 1-month period, we administered the “Violent Incident Form” to 745 professionals (physicians, head nurses, nurses, nursing assistants), who worked in 15 wards of a general hospital in northern Italy. Results: With a response rate of 56%, 45% of professionals reported WPV. The most frequently assaulted were nurses (67%), followed by nursing assistants (18%) and physicians (12%). The first two categories were correlated, in a statistically significant way, with the risk of WPV (P=0.005, P=0.004, multiple logistic regression). The violent incidents more frequently occurred in psychiatry department (86%), emergency department (71%), and in geriatric wards (57%). The assailants more frequently were males whereas assaulted professionals more often were females. Men committed physical violence more frequently than women, in a statistically significant way (P=0.034, chi-squared test). Verbal violence (51%) was often committed by people in a lucid and normal state of consciousness; physical violence (49%) was most often perpetrated by assailants affected by dementia, mental retardation, drug and substance abuse, or other psychiatric disorders. The variables positively related to WPV were “calling for help during the attack” and “physical injuries suffered in violent attack” (P=0.02, P=0.03, multiple logistic regression).Conclusion: This study suggests that violence is a significant phenomenon and that all health workers, especially nurses, are at risk of suffering aggressive assaults. WPV presented specific characteristics related to the health care settings, where the aggression occurred. Prevention programs tailored to the different care needs are necessary to promote professional awareness for violence risk. In particular, the night shift is one of the most frequent reasons for the disruption of circadian rhythms, causing significant alterations of sleep and biological functions that can affect physical and psychological well-being and negatively impact work performance.Objectives: The aim of this study was to highlight if shift work with nights, as compared with day work only, is associated with risk factors predisposing nurses to poorer health conditions and lower job satisfaction.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from June 1, 2015 to July 31, 2015 in 17 wards of a general hospital and a residential facility of a northern Italian city. This study involved 213 nurses working in rotating night shifts and 65 in day shifts. The instrument used for data collection was the “Standard Shift Work Index,” validated in Italian. Data were statistically analyzed.Results: The response rate was 86%. The nurses engaged in rotating night shifts were statistically significantly younger, more frequently single, and had Bachelors and Masters degrees in nursing. They reported the lowest mean score in the items of job satisfaction, quality and quantity of sleep, with more frequent chronic fatigue, psychological, and cardiovascular symptoms in comparison with the day shift workers, in a statistically significant way.Conclusion: Our results suggest that nurses with rotating night schedule need special attention due to the higher risk for both job dissatisfaction and undesirable health effects. This study seeks to investigate the concept of using large waste rocks from mining operations as waste-heat thermal energy storage for remote arctic communities, both commercial and residential. It holds its novelty in analyzing such systems with an experimentally validated transient three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer model that accounts for interphase energy balance using a local thermal non-equilibrium approach. The system performance is evaluated for a wide range of distinct parameters, such as porosity between 0.2 and 0.5, fluid velocity from 0.01 to 0.07 m/s, and the aspect ratio of the bed between 1 and 1.35. It is demonstrated that the mass flow rate of the heat transfer fluid does not expressively impact the total energy storage capacity of the rock mass, but it does significantly affect the charge/discharge times. Finally, it is shown that porosity has the greatest impact on both fluid flow and heat transfer. The evaluations show that about 540 GJ can be stored on the bed with a porosity of 0.2, and about 350 GJ on the one with 0.35, while the intermediate porosity leads to a total of 450 GJ. Additionally, thermal capacity is deemed to be the most important thermophysical factor in thermal energy storage performance.

Liposarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm composed of adipose tissue with varying degrees of atypia. These tumors grow slowly and may reach an enormous size particularly if located in the retroperitoneum. We report a 40-year-old male with a 6-month history of gradual abdominal enlargement. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen showed a huge retroperitoneal mass with characteristic features consistent with liposarcoma. On laparotomy, the mass was noted to be encasing the right ureter for which a wide excision with en bloc ureterectomy and subsequent renal autotransplantation for organ preservation was done. Post-operative course was uneventful with excellent outcome after 6 months of follow-up. Final histopathologic diagnosis was low-grade, well differentiated liposarcoma, which has favorable prognosis following radical surgery. This was the first report of such a case in the Philippines.

The current experiments searching for neutrinoless double-β (0νββ) decay also collect large statistics of Standard Model allowed two-neutrino double-β (2νββ) decay events. These can be used to search for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics via 2νββ decay spectral distortions. 100Mo has a natural advantage due to its relatively short half-life, allowing higher 2νββ decay statistics at equal exposures compared to the other isotopes. We demonstrate the potential of the dual read-out bolometric technique exploiting a 100Mo exposure of 1.47 kg × years, acquired in the CUPID-Mo experiment at the Modane underground laboratory (France). We set limits on 0νββ decays with the emission of one or more Majorons, on 2νββ decay with Lorentz violation, and 2νββ decay with a sterile neutrino emission. In this analysis, we investigate the systematic uncertainty induced by modeling the 2νββ decay spectral shape parameterized through an improved model, an effect never considered before. This work motivates searches for BSM processes in the upcoming CUPID experiment, which will collect the largest amount of 2νββ decay events among the next-generation experiments.

CUPID is a next-generation bolometric experiment aiming at searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay with ∼250 kg of isotopic mass of 100Mo. It will operate at ∼10 mK in a cryostat currently hosting a similar-scale bolometric array for the CUORE experiment at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (Italy). CUPID will be based on large-volume scintillating bolometers consisting of 100Mo-enriched Li2MoO4 crystals, facing thin Ge-wafer-based bolometric light detectors. In the CUPID design, the detector structure is novel and needs to be validated. In particular, the CUORE cryostat presents a high level of mechanical vibrations due to the use of pulse tubes and the effect of vibrations on the detector performance must be investigated. In this paper we report the first test of the CUPID-design bolometric light detectors with NTD-Ge sensors in a dilution refrigerator equipped with a pulse tube in an above-ground lab. Light detectors are characterized in terms of sensitivity, energy resolution, pulse time constants, and noise power spectrum. Despite the challenging noisy environment due to pulse-tube-induced vibrations, we demonstrate that all the four tested light detectors comply with the CUPID goal in terms of intrinsic energy resolution of 100 eV RMS baseline noise. Indeed, we have measured 70-90 eV RMS for the four devices, which show an excellent reproducibility. We have also obtained high energy resolutions at the 356 keV line from a 133Ba source, as good as Ge semiconductor γ detectors in this energy range.

An array of twelve 0.28 kg lithium molybdate (LMO) low-temperature bolometers equipped with 16 bolometric Ge light detectors, aiming at optimization of detector structure for CROSS and CUPID double-beta decay experiments, was constructed and tested in a low-background pulse-tube-based cryostat at the Canfranc underground laboratory in Spain. Performance of the scintillating bolometers was studied depending on the size of phonon NTD-Ge sensors glued to both LMO and Ge absorbers, shape of the Ge light detectors (circular vs. square, from two suppliers), in different light collection conditions (with and without reflector, with aluminum coated LMO crystal surface). The scintillating bolometer array was operated over 8 months in the low-background conditions that allowed to probe a very low, μBq/kg, level of the LMO crystals radioactive contamination by 228Th and 226Ra.

CUPID is a next-generation tonne-scale bolometric neutrinoless double beta decay experiment that will probe the Majorana nature of neutrinos and discover lepton number violation in case of observation of this singular process. CUPID will be built on experience, expertise and lessons learned in CUORE and will be installed in the current CUORE infra-structure in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. The CUPID detector technology, successfully tested in the CUPID-Mo experiment, is based on scintillating bolometers of Li2MoO4 enriched in the isotope of interest 100Mo. In order to achieve its ambitious science goals, the CUPID collaboration aims to reduce the backgrounds in the region of interest by a factor 100 with respect to CUORE. This performance will be achieved by introducing the high efficient α/β discrimination demonstrated by the CUPID-0 and CUPID-Mo experiments, and using a high transition energy double beta decay nucleus such as 100Mo to minimize the impact of the gamma background. CUPID will consist of about 1500 hybrid heat-light detectors for a total isotope mass of 250 kg. The CUPID scientific reach is supported by a detailed and safe background model based on CUORE, CUPID-Mo and CUPID-0 results. The required performances have already been demonstrated and will be presented.
