Cancer patients and survivors can experience treatment related side effects that impact nutrition status, as well as unwanted weight loss, weight gain and poor dietary quality. Therefore, they are a group that would benefit from nutrition intervention. A qualitative study was conducted online (six focus groups and two interviews) with 12 oncology providers and 12 survivors in the United States. Participants were asked about the role of nutrition in survivors&rsquo, health, appropriate components of nutrition care for cancer patients, and strategies to integrate nutrition into oncology care. Feedback on a proposed program, &ldquo, NutriCare&rdquo, was also sought. Focus groups were recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed for themes. Four main themes emerged: (1) nutrition is an important component of oncology care and source of empowerment for cancer patients, (2) in the NutriCare program, the prescription pad component was viewed as a critical aspect, and there was also a preference for dealing with patients and survivors separately, (3) for implementation, the most appropriate time for providers to talk to patients about nutrition is during the development of the treatment plan. Reinforcement of key nutrition messages by providers was also highlighted, (4) major barriers included lack of time and motivation by providers. Survivors were interested in and providers supportive of integrating nutrition into oncology care.

Introduction: Animal protein sources, especially red and processed meat, have been associated with adverse health outcomes. Epidemiological evidence on the isocaloric substitution of plant for animal protein on mortality risk remains limited. Hypothesis: We hypothesized that substituting plant protein for carbohydrates and animal protein would be associated with lower mortality. Method: We included a nationally representative sample of 37 233 US adults ≥20 years with 24-h dietary recall data from eight National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycles (1999-2014). Mortality from all causes, heart disease, and cancer were identified through National Death Index linkage (until December 31, 2015). We used Cox proportional hazards regression to estimate the association between plant and animal protein intake and mortality after adjustment for potential confounding factors. Results: During 297 768 person-years of follow-up, 4 866 total deaths occurred, including 849 deaths from heart disease and 1 068 deaths from cancer. After multivariable adjustment, higher intake of total animal protein was not associated with total mortality. Plant protein was associated with lower total mortality; when comparing the lowest with highest quintiles of plant protein intake, the multivariable adjusted HR (95% CIs) of total mortality was 0.73 (0.61, 0.88); P for trend Conclusions: Higher plant protein intake was associated with lower total mortality. Isocalorically replacing animal protein with plant protein was associated with lower total mortality.

BACKGROUND: Many cancer patients initiate dietary supplement use after cancer diagnosis. How dietary supplement use contributes to the total nutrient intake among cancer survivors as compared with individuals without cancer needs to be determined. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate nutrient intakes from dietary supplements among cancer survivors in relation to their total nutrient intake and compare those with individuals without cancer. METHODS: We evaluated the prevalence, dose, and reason for using dietary supplements among 2772 adult cancer survivors and 31,310 individuals without cancer who participated in the NHANES 2003–2016. RESULTS: Cancer survivors reported a higher prevalence of any (70.4% vs. 51.2%) and multivitamin/mineral (48.9% vs. 36.6%) supplement use and supplement use of 11 individual vitamins and 8 minerals than individuals without cancer. Overall, cancer survivors had significantly higher amounts of nutrient intake from supplements but lower nutrient intakes from foods for the majority of the nutrients. BACKGROUND Survivors of childhood cancer report poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Modifiable lifestyle factors such as nutrition and physical activity represent opportunities for interventions to improve HRQOL. METHODS The authors examined the association between modifiable lifestyle factors and HRQOL among 2480 adult survivors of childhood cancer in the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort Study. Dietary intake, physical activity, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption were assessed through questionnaires. Weight and height were measured in the clinic. HRQOL was evaluated using the Medical Outcome Study 36-Item Short Form Survey. The physical component summary (PCS), mental component summary (MCS), and 8 domain scores of HRQOL were calculated. Multivariable linear regression models were used to estimate regression coefficients (β) associated with HRQOL differences. RESULTS Being physically active (PCS β = 3.10; and MCS β = 1.48) was associated with higher HRQOL whereas current cigarette smoking (PCS β = -2.30; and MCS β = -6.49) and obesity (body mass index ≥30 kg/m2 ) (PCS β = -3.29; and MCS β = -1.61) were associated with lower HRQOL in both the physical and mental domains. This work dealt with the effect of counter-current gas flow on the flow pattern transitions and CO2 absorption with the mixed aqueous solution of ionic liquid and MEA. The falling film was observed to take the form of “corner rivulet flow (denoted as CRF)”, “falling film flow with dry patches (denoted as FDP)” or “complete falling film flow (denoted as FFP)”. The flow patterns are significantly different between the cases of increasing the liquid flow rate gradually and decreasing the liquid flow rate gradually. The critical flow rate enlarged due to the increasing gas flow rate. The absorption rate RA increased with increasing liquid flow rate under the flow patterns of CRF and FDP. The utilization rate reached a peak at the critical liquid flow rate QCRF,CFF-FDP. Liquid mass transfer coefficient decreased with the increasing liquid flow rate under the flow patterns of CRF and FDP.

The Wurinitu W–Mo deposit is located in the Erlian-East Ujimqin metallogenic belt in the Great Xing’an Range, NE China. Tungsten and molybdenum mineralization generally occurs as veins in quartz hosted by the Middle to Lower Ordovician wall rocks or as disseminations in the Early Cretaceous monzogranite intrusions. Fluid inclusion studies and multiple isotope analyses, provide systematic evidence to determine the evolution of the hydrothermal fluids, the source of metals and fluids, as well as mineral precipitation mechanisms, which are significant for the magmatic-hydrothermal system but are poorly understood. Three types of fluid inclusion assemblages (FIAs), including L (liquid-rich two-phase FIAs), V (vapor-rich two-phase FIAs), and L-V (liquid–vapor two-phase FIAs), have been identified in quartz veins from the W-mineralization (I), Mo-mineralization (II), and quartz – carbonate (III) stages at Wurinitu. The ore-forming fluids evolved from a high- to moderate-temperature and moderate- to low-salinity H2O–NaCl ± CO2 system in the W- and Mo- mineralization stages to a low-temperature and low-salinity H2O–NaCl system in the quartz-carbonate stage; they were trapped at temperatures of ∼365 °C, ∼266 °C, and ∼198 °C. The results of hydrogen and oxygen isotope analyses (δ18OH2O = −4.0 to +7.7‰; δDH2O = −116 to −92‰) indicate that the stage I fluids dominantly originated from magmatic water, and the stages II and III show addition of meteoric water. Sulfur (δ34SVCDT = 1.9–4.0‰) and lead isotope values (206Pb/204Pb = 18.099–18.728, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.527–15.616, and 208Pb/204Pb = 38.019–38.465) suggest that the ore metals in the hydrothermal fluids were derived from the granitic magma. All these observations reveal that (1) the Wurinitu W–Mo deposit is a magmatic-hydrothermal ore system, (2) W- and Mo- mineralization occurred under lithostatic pressure of 203–294 bars, and hydrostatic pressure of ∼102 bars, respectively, and (3) fluid boiling and mixing with meteoric water might be the key factors controlling the large-scale ore deposition at Wurinitu.

The newly identified Wulandele Mo deposit is located in the western part of the Great Xing’an Range, Northeast China. Molybdenum mineralization generally occurs as veins or disseminations hosted in Permian to Cretaceous granitic intrusions, associated with potassic alteration, silicification, greisenization and propylitic alteration. The ore-forming process can be divided into four stages: quartz ± K-feldspar ± biotite ± pyrite (stage I), quartz + molybdenite ± K-feldspar ± pyrite (stage II), quartz + chalcopyrite ± bornite (stage III), and quartz + carbonate (stage IV). Combined fluid inclusion microthermometry and stable and Pb isotopic compositions are used to constrain the hydrothermal processes and ore genesis of the Wulandele Mo deposit. Fluid inclusion data show four types of fluid inclusion assemblages (FIAs), i.e., L0 (liquid-rich two-phase FIAs), V0 (vapour-rich two-phase FIAs), C (CO2-rich FIAs), and rare L1 (liquid-rich three-phase FIAs with one transparent mineral), but only the former three types of FIAs were analysed. Aqueous and carbonic fluid inclusions occur in quartz veins of stages I and II, and only aqueous inclusions are observed in stages III and IV. Hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of quartz indicate a primarily magmatic origin, and the proportion of meteoric water increased during the ore-forming process. Sulfur (δ34SVCDT = 1.90–4.19‰) and lead isotopes suggest that the ore-forming materials came predominantly from magmatic fluids. The Wulandele Mo deposit was formed by an initially high-temperature, high-oxygen fugacity and CO2-rich fluid system at an estimated depth of ∼0.4 to 3.3 km. Decreases in temperature and fO2 as well as the input of meteoric water were critical factors for sulfide precipitation. Combining the integrated analysis of deposit geology, the fluid evolutionary process, and the ore-forming environment, we suggest that the Wulandele deposit should be classified as a porphyry Mo deposit that was formed in a continental collision orogen during post-collisional extension associated with the consumption of the Mongol–Okhotsk ocean in NE China.

The Hardat Tolgoi Ag-Pb-Zn deposit is located in the Erenhot-East Ujimqin polymetallic metallogenic belt, on the western part of the Great Xing’an Range, Inner Mongolia, northeast China. The Ag-Pb-Zn veins are mainly hosted by the argillaceous siltstone and feldspar quartz sandstone of Aobaotinghundi Formation, which show close genetic relationship with the granitoids at Hardat Tolgoi (i.e., biotite granite, syenogranite, and monzogranite). New LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating yielded the emplacement ages of 196.1 ± 5.8 Ma for biotite granite, 192.3 ± 6.0 Ma for syenogranite, and 194.8 ± 1.7 Ma for monzogranite, respectively, indicating that they were formed in the Early Jurassic. Geochemically, these granitoids are characterized by high SiO2, Na2O + K2O, and low MgO and TiO2 concentrations, belonging to high-K calc-alkaline series. They exhibit relatively flat REE patterns, with pronounced negative Eu anomalies (EuN/EuN* = 0.004–0.015), enriched in LREEs and LILEs (e.g., Rb, U, and Pb), and depleted in Ba, Sr, Nb, P, and Ti. Zircon in situ Hf isotopic analyses yield positive eHf(t) values ranging from + 5.7 to + 11.8, corresponding relatively young Hf isotopic crustal model ages of 452 to 843 Ma. The granitoid samples have the 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios of 18.950 to 19.444, 15. 573 to 15.615, and 38.487 to 38.789, corresponding to initial Pb ratios of 18.483 to 18.960, 15.552 to 15.662, and 37.905 to 38.193, respectively, and yield the δ30Si values between − 0.4 and − 0.1‰, similar to the quartz separates (−0.7 to − 0.1‰). The available geochemical and isotopic data imply that the source magma at Hardat Tolgoi was most likely derived from partial melting of juvenile lower crust. Combined our whole-rock geochemical and Hf − Pb − Si isotopic data with regional tectono-magmatic evolution, it is proposed that the Early Jurassic magmatism at Hardat Tolgoi was probably attributed to the southeastward subduction of the Mongol − Okhotsk oceanic plate beneath the Erguna massif, and their generation was favorable to the Hardat Tolgoi Ag-Pb-Zn ore formation.

Late Mesozoic Nantai porphyry Mo deposit is located in the Northern Qinling terrane, eastern China. The intrusions at Nantai include lamprophyre, quartz porphyry, and granite porphyry. Among them, molybdenum mineralization is associated with quartz porphyry and granite porphyry. The ore-bearing porphyries and ore-barren lamprophyres emplaced at ca. 155–146 Ma and ca. 156–146 Ma, respectively. The calculated zircon ΔFMQ values for Nantai felsic and mafic intrusions are –5.0 to +9.1 (an average of + 2.2) and –6.7 to +5.0 (an average of +1.2), which are similar to those of contemporaneous giant Mo deposits in the south margin of the North China Block. The quartz porphyry and granite porphyry are characterized by relatively high SiO2 (73.39–75.49%), K2O (4.24–9.61%), and Rb (291–552 ppm) contents, but low total Fe2O3 (0.13–0.83 wt%), MgO (0.1–0.3 wt%), P2O5 (0.01–0.04 wt%), Sr (22.4–141.0 ppm) and Ba (79.8–1757 ppm) concentrations. These granitic samples have TDMC ages of 2204–1592 Ma, corresponding to negative eHf(t) values of –15.8 to –6.2. Geochemical and zircon Lu-Hf signatures as well as lead isotopic analyses for Nantai granitoids suggest that they belong to the high-fractionated I-type granites and were derived from partial melting of lower continental crust with coeval mantle-derived magma contribution. The lamprophyres show low SiO2 (47.59–49.08%) and Rb (96–120 ppm) contents, whereas they have high Ba (1598–2236 ppm), and Sr (771–990 ppm) concentrations, as well as a lack of negative Eu anomalies. The concentrated eHf(t) values (–0.6 to + 3.3), high (Hf/Sm)PMN and La/Sm ratios, as well as Pb isotopic features, indicate that they were derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle that had been metasomatized by subducted components with some crustal material contribution. Combined with our datasets and previous studies, we suggest that the Nantai porphyry Mo deposit formed in a post-orogenic setting.

The Azhahada quartz vein-type Cu-Bi deposit is located in the Erenhot-East Ujimqin polymetallic metallogenic belt, on the western part of the Great Xing’an Range, Inner Mongolia, northeast China. The Cu-Bi veins are hosted by volcanic and metasedimentary rocks in the Devonian Niqiuhe Formation and Carboniferous felsic intrusions (monzogranite, syenogranite, and granite). Three hydrothermal ore stages (I-III) for Cu-Bi formation at Azhahada have been identified. Chalcopyrite and bismuthinite are the dominant ore minerals and mainly occur in vein stage II (quartz–pyrite ± chalcopyrite ± bismuthinite veins). New LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates the monzogranite, syenogranite, and granite emplaced between 313.9 ± 1.7 and 308.4 ± 1.5 Ma. The monzogranite, syenogranite, and granite show the same geochemical affinity with I-type granites, which are characterized by high SiO2, K2O, and Al2O3 contents, low MgO, TiO2, and P2O5 contents, negative Eu anomalies (EuN/EuN* = 0.04–0.57), and strong enrichment in Rb, K, Pb, and Nd. Moreover, these granitic intrusions have low Mg# values of 22 to 39, low (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios (0.7023 to 0.7053), eNd(t) values between −0.8 and +0.4, positive eHf(t) values of +1.6 to +10.4, suggesting that their parental magmas were most likely derived from partial melts from the lower crust involving some mantle materials in a post-collisional tectonic setting. Sulfide samples from Azhahada have 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios similar to those of granitic intrusions. The silicon isotope compositions of the quartz samples (−0.3 to −0.1‰) are highly consistent with values of the granitic intrusions (−0.4 to −0.1‰), indicating that the silicon was derived from the granitic magma. Combined our whole-rock geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb–Si isotopic data with previous investigation of regional tectonic evolutions, we suggest that the Azhahada granitoids genetically associated with the Cu-Bi mineralization were generated by the postorogenic lithospheric extension and magmatic underplating during the Late Carboniferous. A post-collisional extensional event coupled with the rising of hot mantle derived melts triggered partial melting of the lower crust, as well as provided metals (Cu and Bi).

The Baimadong uranium deposit is situated in the Yangtze Craton, SW China, and is one of the most representative carbonate-hosted uranium deposits in China. Uranium mineralization has spatial and genetical relationships with black and red alterations that has been documented by previous studies. However, the signature, source, and evaluation of ore-forming fluids producing the alterations and mineralization remain poorly understood. Fluid inclusions hosted in different generations of hydrothermal calcite have been analyzed in this study, including Cal 1 (pre-ore stage), Cal 2 (early ore stage), and Cal 3 (main ore stage). Three types of fluid inclusions were identified: liquid-dominated biphase, vapor-dominated biphase, and vapor-only monophase. Based on fluid inclusion microthermometry using the FIA method, the fluids associated with Cal 2 are characterized by relatively higher temperature (∼243 ℃) and salinity (5.3 wt% NaCl equiv.) compared with fluids associated with Cal 1 (Th = ∼221 ℃; Salinity = 1.9 wt% NaCl equiv.) and Cal 3 (Th = ∼144 ℃; Salinity = 2.5 wt% NaCl equiv.). The results of stable isotopes (C, O, and S) indicate that the carbon in pre-ore stage fluids was dominantly originated from host marine carbonate rocks (δ13Cfluid-PDB = −3.0 to 0.5 ‰; δ18Ofluid-SMOW = 4.8 to 11.3 ‰), the carbon and sulfur in early ore-forming fluids were mainly derived from the Niutitang Formation with minor from deep crust (δ13Cfluid-PDB = −11.2 to −8.4 ‰; δ18Ofluid-SMOW = 7.9 to 11.4 ‰; δ34Sv-CDT = −11.3 to + 2.1 ‰), whereas the main ore-forming fluids were sourced from meteoric fluids (δ13Cfluid-PDB = −8.6 to −4.9 ‰; δ18Ofluid-SMOW = 0.4 to 8.6 ‰). These results reveal that redox reaction as well as fluid-rock reaction are key factors controlling the large-scale uranium mineralization at Baimadong. Combined with these observations, geological setting, and previous geochemical features, we suggest that tectonic system together with overprinting zone of black and red alterations are indicators for exploration of carbonate-hosted uranium deposit in South China and elsewhere worldwide.

The Chigou copper deposit is situated in the southern part of the Qinling orogenic belt, central China, where quartz diorite and quartz diorite porphyry are associated with porphyry-type copper mineralization. Copper generally occurs as veins, veinlets, and disseminations within-host porphyries. The zircon dates tightly constrain the timing of host porphyries to ca. 149–146 Ma, in agreement with the age of porphyry copper mineralization (146.1 ± 2.8 Ma) constrained by using molybdenite Re–Os dating. The calculated zircon ΔFMQ values for quartz diorite are −9.4 to +9.9 (averaging +4.3). The Chigou granitoids show similar geochemical compositions to high-Barium-Strontium (high Ba-Sr) granites, with high Ba (2256–3717 ppm) and Sr (737–1345 ppm), low Rb (86.2–129 ppm), U (1.9–4.7 ppm), Th (16.2–31.2 ppm), and Nb (11.4–19.1 ppm) concentrations, as well as lack of negative Eu anomalies. The concentrated eHf(t) values (−3.0 to +1.4), moderate Mg# values (41–52), and high (Hf/Sm)PMN and La/Sm ratios, but low Ba/Th, U/Th, and (Ta/La)PMN ratios indicate that ore-forming magmas derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle that had been metasomatized by subducted sediment-derived melts with a minor crustal contribution. Combined with previous studies, we suggest that the Chigou deposit formed in a post-collisional tectonic setting during the Late Jurassic.

Background: The 47,XYY syndrome could result in fertility problems. However, seldom studies reported comprehensive researches on the embryonic development and pregnancy outcomes of these patients. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of nonmosaic 47,XYY patients performed with fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) treatment. Methods: This was a retrospective study. Between January 2012 and May 2017, 51 infertile males with nonmosaic 47,XYY syndrome underwent FISH-PGD were included in the study. According to sex chromosomal FISH results, embryos were classified as normal signal, no nuclei fixed, no signal in fixed nuclei, suspensive signal, and abnormal signal groups, respectively. The incidence of each group, the fixation rate, and hybridization rate were calculated. Embryonic development and pregnancy outcomes were also analyzed. The measurement data were analyzed with Student’s t-test. The comparison of categorical data was analyzed with the Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test when expected cell count was 0.05), and were significantly lower than the normal signal group (66.4%, P< 0.001). The clinical pregnancy rates of fresh and frozen embryos transferred cycles were 70.6% and 85.7%, respectively. Conclusions: Among embryos with a clear diagnosis of sex chromosome, about one-fifth showed abnormal signals. Embryos with two sex chromosomal signals are more likely to develop into good-quality ones. The application of the PGD by FISH may help to improve the clinical outcomes. The late Paleozoic Tuwu porphyry Cu deposit is located in the Dananhu–Tousuquan arc in Eastern Tianshan, northwest China. In this study, we present new apatite fission track data of the intermediate-felsic intrusions (i.e., diorite porphyry, tonalite porphyry, quartz porphyry, and quartz albite porphyry) from Tuwu, together with inverse thermal modeling and previous study, to reveal exhumation and cooling history. Apatite fission track length analyses indicate that the track annealing type belongs to a transition from the undisturbed basement distribution to the mixed distribution. As a whole, two phases of cooling were recognized from inverse thermal modeling including a protracted slow cooling period with an average cooling rate of 0.32 ℃/Ma during late Cretaceous to Miocene and moderate slow cooling with a cooling rate of 1.89 ℃/Ma from Miocene to the present day. The first phase of cooling can be mainly attributed to a tectonically quiet and arid to semiarid climate whereas the later phases of cooling related to structural activation occurred at ~25–15 Ma in response to a distant effect of the India-Eurasia convergence. In addition, the exhumation rates of Tuwu intrusions from the two stages are 10.7 m/Ma and 63 m/Ma, respectively. The calculated total exhumation thickness at Tuwu is 1.2–2.3 km since late Cretaceous. Based on the integration of stratigraphic sequence, tectonic setting, paleogeographic, geochronology, and low temperature thermochronology study, we suggest that the thick deposition of coal-bearing stratum during the early and middle Jurassic, the extended duration slow cooling and exhumation controlled by arid to semiarid climate, and the differential lifting movement of fault blocks are key factors for preservation of the early Carboniferous Tuwu Cu deposit.

The childhood obesity rate has been steadily rising among US youths during the past 2 decades. Increasing evidence links consumption of ultraprocessed foods to excessive calorie consumption and weight gain, but trends in the consumption of ultraprocessed foods among US youths have not been well characterized.To characterize trends in the consumption of ultraprocessed foods among US youths.Serial cross-sectional analysis using 24-hour dietary recall data from a nationally representative sample of US youths aged 2-19 years (n = 33 795) from 10 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999-2000 to 2017-2018.Secular time.Percentage of total energy consumed from ultraprocessed foods as defined by NOVA, an established food classification system that categorizes food according to the degree of food processing.Dietary intake from youths were analyzed (weighted mean age, 10.7 years; 49.1% were girls). From 1999 to 2018, the estimated percentage of total energy from consumption of ultraprocessed foods increased from 61.4% to 67.0% (difference, 5.6% [95% CI, 3.5% to 7.7%]; P .001 for trend), whereas the percentage of total energy from consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods decreased from 28.8% to 23.5% (difference, -5.3% [95% CI, -7.5% to -3.2%]; P .001 for trend). Among the subgroups of ultraprocessed foods, the estimated percentage of energy from consumption of ready-to-heat and -eat mixed dishes increased from 2.2% to 11.2% (difference, 8.9% [95% CI, 7.7% to 10.2%]) and from consumption of sweet snacks and sweets increased from 10.7% to 12.9% (difference, 2.3% [95% CI, 1.0% to 3.6%]), but the estimated percentage of energy decreased for sugar-sweetened beverages from 10.8% to 5.3% (difference, -5.5% [95% CI, -6.5% to -4.5%]) and for processed fats and oils, condiments, and sauces from 7.1% to 4.0% (difference, -3.1% [95% CI, -3.7% to -2.6%]) (all P .05 for trend). There was a significantly larger increase in the estimated percentage of energy from consumption of ultraprocessed foods among non-Hispanic Black youths (from 62.2% to 72.5%; difference, 10.3% [95% CI, 6.8% to 13.8%]) and Mexican American youths (from 55.8% to 63.5%; difference, 7.6% [95% CI, 4.4% to 10.9%]) than the increase among non-Hispanic White youths (from 63.4% to 68.6%; difference, 5.2% [95% CI, 2.1% to 8.3%]) (P = .04 for trends).Based on the NHANES cycles from 1999 to 2018, the estimated proportion of energy intake from consumption of ultraprocessed foods has increased among youths in the US and has consistently comprised the majority of their total energy intake.

In spite of the important role nutrition plays in the management of HIV, access to nutrition services is inadequate, especially in resource limited settings. In addition, nutrition programs for people living with HIV (PLWH) have not been sufficiently evaluated for efficacy and this study was conducted to address this gap. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the nutrition assessment, counseling and support (NACS) program in Accra, Ghana, and to assess whether the level of implementation of NACS was associated with the body mass index (BMI) of PLWH. A cross-sectional study was conducted in six HIV clinics (3 NACS designated and 3 non-NACS). Study participants were 152 adult PLWH at least 6 months on antiretroviral therapy and not pregnant or breastfeeding. Using a NACS implementation scale developed for this study ranging from 0–8 (a higher score indicating better NACS implementation), median NACS implementation score was not different between NACS-designated, and non-NACS HIV clinics (5 vs 4, p=0.14). Almost half (47%) of the respondents were overweight or obese. A higher score on the NACS implementation scale was not significantly associated with overweight or obesity (BMI >24.9 kg/m2) after adjusting for other covariates. It was concluded that, there was poor implementation of NACS in the NACS designated HIV clinics surveyed with no nutrition counseling offered nor food support available to those who might need it.

The Yandong porphyry Cu deposit is located at the south margin of the Dananhu–Tousuquan arc belt in eastern Tianshan, northwest China. The Cu ores comprise mainly disseminations and vein zones in the potassic and phyllic alteration zones, and are predominantly hosted in diorite porphyry, tonalite, and quartz porphyry, which intruded into Carboniferous Qi’eshan Group volcanic rocks. The U–Pb ages indicate that four intrusions were emplaced between 338.6 ± 2.9 and 326.1 ± 2.6 Ma. Five molybdenite samples yield Re–Os model ages of 333.8–329.5 Ma with a weighted average age of 331.8 ± 2.1 Ma. Fourteen pyrite samples have 206Pb/204Pb of 17.776–18.959, 207Pb/204Pb of 15.410–15.534, and 208Pb/204Pb of 37.323–38.127, similar to the age-corrected data of the Yandong tonalite. The tonalite shows adakite-like characteristics (e.g., high Sr/Y ratios and low Y contents), and has positive eNd(t) and eHf(t) values, and low zircon O isotopes (3.7–4.6 ‰), suggesting that the melt was derived from partial melting of a subducted oceanic slab followed by mantle peridotite interaction. The diorite porphyry exhibits high Mg# and low Sr/Y values, slightly negative Eu anomalies, and positive eHf(t) values, indicating a lithospheric mantle source. The quartz porphyry, with stronger negative Eu anomalies, less evolved eHf(t) values, and low δ18O values (4.7–5.5 ‰), was probably derived from mantle melts that experienced mixing with lower crustal materials (melts or assimilation). The new data suggest that the Yandong intrusions formed in an arc setting. As the tonalite is genetically linked to the Cu mineralization, subduction-related slab melts must have played a key role in the formation of the Yandong deposit.

The Yandong porphyry Cu deposit (372 Mt at 0.58% Cu) is located in the center of the eastern Tianshan, Xinjiang, NW China. Multiple-stage hydrothermal activities have resulted in potassic, chlorite-sericite, phyllic, and propylitic alteration in this deposit. The Yandong deposit formed in four stages, i.e., an early quartz ± magnetite ± pyrite stage (I), a quartz + pyrite ± chalcopyrite stage (II), a quartz + chalcopyrite ± pyrite ± molybdenite stage (III), and a late quartz + carbonate stage (IV). Three evolutionary episodes were observed by a detailed fluid inclusion study: (1) Early ore stage (I) fluids were trapped under two-phase conditions, as evidenced by the coexistence of vapor-rich (V-type) inclusions (homogenization temperatures = 410–494 °C, average salinity = 2.2 wt% NaCl equiv), liquid-rich (L-type) inclusions (homogenization temperatures = 311–430 °C, average salinity = 9.5 wt% NaCl equiv) and hypersaline (H-type) inclusions (trapped at ∼300 bars, or a depth of approximately 1 km assuming lithostatic pressure conditions). (2) Main ore stage (II and III) fluid inclusions in quartz were also trapped under two-phase conditions (boiling), as identified by the coexistence of V- and L-type fluid inclusions; L-type inclusions homogenized between 161 and 390 °C (average = 270 °C), with salinities of 1.6–9.9 wt% NaCl equiv (average = 4.9 wt% NaCl equiv) and a depth of ∼1 km (∼100 bars, hydrostatic pressure conditions). (3) Late ore stage (IV) fluids are represented by inclusions in barren quartz–carbonate veinlets, characterized by homogenization temperatures ranging from 123 to 261 °C (average = 179 °C) and salinities between 0.7 and 4.7 wt% NaCl equiv (average = 2.0 wt% NaCl equiv). The initial hydrothermal fluids are characterized by high temperature, high salinity and high oxygen fugacity, belonging to a H 2 O–NaCl system. Hydrogen and oxygen isotope data indicate that the hydrothermal fluids have a dominantly magmatic signature and mixed with abundant meteoric waters in the quartz-carbonate stage. Sulfur stable isotope suggests that the ore-forming metals came primarily from the tonalite magma that sourced from the subducted oceanic slab involving some mantle peridotites during ascent. The Cu mineralization of the Yandong porphyry deposit occurred at a shallow crustal level (approximately 1 km), and the fluid boiling or phase separation, decrease of temperature, as well as fluid-rock interaction were likely important factors responsible for metal accumulation and deposition in the magmatic-hydrothermal system.

BACKGROUND Soy foods possess both antiestrogenic and estrogen-like properties. It remains controversial whether women diagnosed with breast cancer should be advised to eat more or less soy foods, especially for those who receive hormone therapies as part of cancer treatment. METHODS The association of dietary intake of isoflavone, the major phytoestrogen in soy, with all-cause mortality was examined in 6235 women with breast cancer enrolled in the Breast Cancer Family Registry. Dietary intake was assessed using a Food Frequency Questionnaire developed for the Hawaii-Los Angeles Multiethnic Cohort among 5178 women who reported prediagnosis diet and 1664 women who reported postdiagnosis diet. Cox proportional-hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS During a median follow-up of 113 months (approximately 9.4 years), 1224 deaths were documented. Both salicylic acid (SA) and ethylene induce stomatal closure and positively regulate stomatal immunity, but their interactions in guard cell signaling are unclear. Here, we observed that SA induced the expression of ethylene biosynthetic genes; the production of ethylene, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO); and stomatal closure in Arabidopsis thaliana. However, SA-induced stomatal closure was inhibited by an ethylene biosynthetic inhibitor and mutations in ethylene biosynthetic genes, ethylene-signaling genes [RESPONSE TO ANTAGONIST 1 (RAN1), ETHYLENE RESPONSE 1 (ETR1), ETHYLENE INSENSITIVE 2 (EIN2), EIN3 and ARABIDOPSIS RESPONSE REGULATOR 2 (ARR2)], NADPH oxidase genes [ATRBOHD and ATRBOHF], and nitrate reductase genes (NIA1 and NIA2). Furthermore, SA-triggered ROS production in guard cells was impaired in ran1, etr1, AtrbohD and AtrbohF, but not in ein2, ein3 or arr2. SA-triggered NO production was impaired in all ethylene-signaling mutants tested and in nia1 and nia2. The stomata of mutants for CONSTITUTIVE TRIPLE RESPONSE1 (CTR1) showed constitutive ROS and NO production and closure. These results indicate that ethylene mediates SA-induced stomatal closure by activating ATRBOHD/F-mediated ROS synthesis in an RAN1-, ETR1- and CTR1-dependent manner. This in turn induces NIA1/2-mediated NO production and subsequent stomatal closure via the ETR1, EIN2, EIN3 and ARR2-dependent pathway(s).

ObjectiveTo evaluate the influence of drilling sites for benign lesions in femoral head and neck with curettage, bone-grafting and internal fixation. MethodsTwelve paired formalin-fixed human cadaveric femora were grouped randomly into 2 groups of 6 pairs each, which were group 1 and group 2, and one of each pair of femora was grouped randomly to drill an oval-shaped hole in the anterior femoral neck, and the contralateral femur was assigned to drill an oval-shaped hole in the lateral of the proximal femur. Group 1 femora were simulated the operation of curettage, bone-grafting and internal fixation, and group 2 femora were simulated the operation of curettage. Besides, finite element models corresponding to mechanical testing were simulated according to one of the twelve femora, then finite element analysis were done. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for statistical analysis, with a p value < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. ResultsThe simulated operation of curettage decreased the axial stiffness and torsional stiffness of the intact proximal femur significantly, while there was no statistical difference on the degree of the decline between different drilling sites. Although the simulated operation of bone-grafting and internal fixation in different drilling sites increased the axial stiffness and torsional stiffness, only in the case of implanting bones and internal fixation for the lateral cortical drilled hole increased the axial stiffness greatly and made a statistical difference, even more stiff than the intact proximal femur model. ConclusionCompared with drilling in the anterior femoral neck, a bigger stability could be obtained after drilling in the lateral proximal femur for benign lesions in femoral head and neck with curettage, bone-grafting and internal fixation.

Introduction Processed meats are associated with increased risk of colorectal and stomach cancers, but health and economic impacts of policies to discourage processed meats are not well established. This paper aims to evaluate the cost effectiveness of implementing tax and warning labels on processed meats. Methods A probabilistic cohort-state transition model was developed in 2018, including lifetime and short-term horizons, healthcare, and societal perspectives, and 3% discount rates for costs and health outcomes. The model simulated 32 subgroups by age, gender, and race/ethnicity from the U.S. adult population and integrated nationally representative 2011-2014 data on processed meat consumption, with etiologic effects of processed meat consumption on cancer incidence, medical and indirect societal costs, and policy costs. Results Over a lifetime, the 10% excise tax would prevent 77,000 cases of colorectal cancer (95% uncertainty interval=56,800, 107,000) and 12,500 cases of stomach cancer (95% uncertainty interval=6,880, 23,900), add 593,000 quality-adjusted life years (95% uncertainty interval=419,000, 827,000), and generate net savings of $2.7 billion from a societal perspective, including $1.1 billion healthcare costs saved. The warning label policy would avert 85,400 cases of colorectal cancer (95% uncertainty interval=56,600, 141,000) and 15,000 cases of stomach cancer (95% uncertainty interval=6,860, 34,500), and add 660,000 quality-adjusted life years (95% uncertainty interval=418,000, 1,070,000), with net savings of $4.5 billion from a societal perspective, including $1.3 billion healthcare costs saved. In subgroup analyses, greater health and economic benefits accrued to (1) younger subpopulations, (2) subpopulations with greater cancer risk, and (3) those with higher baseline processed meat consumption. Conclusions The model shows that implementing tax or warning labels on processed meats would be a cost-saving strategy with substantial health and economic benefits. The findings should encourage policy makers to consider nutrition-related policies to reduce cancer burden.

DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Serial cross-sectional analysis of the US nationally representative 24-hour dietary recall data from 9 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cycles (1999-2016) among adults aged 20 years or older. In order to meet the needs of new engineering construction and keep up with the pace of the civil engineering industry, this paper puts forward teaching reform measures including the engineering case analysis and Midas software from two aspects, the teaching content and the teaching method, by combining the characteristics of the specialties of civil engineering and teaching status quo of our school. The teaching practice demonstrates that they have a good effect on stimulating students' interest, improving the engineering case analysis ability and improving the teaching quality. It is expected to provide some reference for the research on the teaching reform of the mechanics course.

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence links excessive consumption of processed meat to an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and some cancers. Yet, trends in consumption of different types of processed meat in the US have not been quantified. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to characterize trends in consumption of different types of processed meat among US adults in relation to the consumption of unprocessed red meat, poultry, and fish/shellfish in the past 18 years and their purchase locations. DESIGN: Dietary data collected from U.S. adults aged 20+ years completing at least 1 valid 24-hour diet recall from 9 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (1999–2016) were used to evaluate the trends in mean consumption of processed meat, unprocessed red meat, poultry, and fish/shellfish. PARTICIPANTS/SETTING: Nationally representative sample of 43,995 US adults aged 20+ years. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Survey-weighted, energy-adjusted mean consumption of processed meat, unprocessed red meat, poultry, and fish/shellfish. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Trends in mean intake were assessed by treating the 2-year survey cycle as a continuous variable in survey-weighted linear regression models. Changes in mean intake was computed as the difference in mean intake between the earliest (1999–2000) and latest (2015–2016) cycle. RESULTS: The mean consumption of processed meat among US adults remained unchanged in the past 18 years (mean change = 4.22 g/wk, p-trend = 0.95). The top 5 processed meats consumed by US adults in 2015–2016 were luncheon meat (mean intake = 73.3 g/wk), sausage (45.5 g/wk), hot dog (17.5 g/wk), ham (17.5 g/wk), and bacon (8.6 g/wk), accounting for 39.3%, 24.4%, 9.4%, 9.4%, and 4.6%, respectively, of the total processed meat consumption in the US. Although obesity is a predisposing factor for pancreatic beta cell dysfunction, the mechanisms underlying its negative effect on insulin-secreting cells is still poorly understood. The aim of this study was to identify islet long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in obesity-mediated beta cell dysfunction. RNA sequencing was performed to analyse the islets of high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice and those of normal chow-fed mice (NCD). The function in beta cells of the selected lncRNA 1810019D21Rik (referred to in this paper as ROIT [regulator of insulin transcription]) was assessed after its overexpression or knockdown in MIN6 cells and primary islet cells, as well as in siRNA-treated mice. Then, RNA pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation, coimmunoprecipitation and bisulphite sequencing were performed to investigate the mechanism of ROIT regulation of islet function. ROIT was dramatically downregulated in the islets of the obese mice, as well as in the sera of obese donors with type 2 diabetes, and was suppressed by HNF1B. Overexpression of ROIT in MIN6 cells and islets led to improved glucose homeostasis and insulin transcription. Investigation of the mechanism involved showed that ROIT bound to DNA methyltransferase 3a and caused its degradation through the ubiquitin proteasome pathway, which blocked the methylation of the Nkx6.1 promoter. These findings functionally suggest a novel link between obesity and beta cell dysfunction via ROIT. Elucidating a precise mechanism for the effect of obesity on lncRNA expression will broaden our understanding of the pathophysiological development of diabetes and facilitate the design of better tools for diabetes prevention and treatment. OBJECTIVES: Processed meat is associated with increased risk of colorectal and stomach cancer, but health and economic impacts of policies to discourage processed meat consumption are not well-established. This paper aims to estimate cancer outcomes, costs, and cost-effectiveness of implementing two population-level policies on processed meat: 1) 10% excise tax and 2) mandatory warning label. METHODS: We developed a probabilistic cohort-state transition model, including short-term and lifetime horizon, US healthcare and societal perspective, and 3% annual discount rates for costs and health outcomes. Our model simulated 32 subgroups by age, gender, and race/ethnicity from the US adult population and integrated nationally representative 2011–2014 data on processed meat consumption with etiologic effects of processed meat on cancer incidence, medical and indirect societal costs, and policy costs. Data sources for input parameters included NHANES, US Cancer Statistics, meta-analyses, and other published literature. Main outcomes were cancer incidence, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), policy and healthcare costs, productivity benefits, incremental cost-effectiveness ratios. RESULTS: Over a lifetime, the 10% excise tax would prevent 77,000 colorectal (95% uncertainty interval: 56,800–114,000) and 12,400 stomach (6860–24,700) cancer cases, add 591,000 (418,000–856,000) QALYs, and generate net savings of $20.5B from healthcare and $23.4B from societal perspectives. The warning label policy would avert 84,500 (56,800–141,000) and 14,700 (6880–34,500) colorectal and stomach cancer cases and add 648,000 (416,000–1080,000) QALYs with net savings of $24.1B from healthcare and $27.3B from societal perspectives. In sensitivity analyses, greater health and economic benefits accrued to 1) younger populations, 2) subpopulations with greater cancer risk, and 3) those with higher baseline processed meat consumption. CONCLUSIONS: Our model shows that implementing an excise tax or warning label on processed meats would be a cost-saving strategy with substantial health and economic benefits. OBJECTIVES: Sugar sweetened beverage (SSB) intake is pervasive in the U.S. and a critical risk factor for weight gain and obesity. Obesity is a preventable factor associated with 13 types of cancers. While SSB taxes can lower SSB intake, the potential impact on cancer outcomes, health costs, and cost-effectiveness in the U.S. is lacking. We aimed to evaluate the health outcomes, costs, and cost-effectiveness of a national SSB tax policy for reducing obesity-related cancer in the U.S. METHODS: We used the Diet Cancer Outcome Model (DiCOM), a probabilistic cohort state-transition model, to project the effect of a national $0.01 per oz SSB excise tax on 13 obesity-associated cancers among U.S. adults age 20+ years over their lifetime. Model inputs included national demographic and dietary data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013–2016, policy effects, diet-BMI effects, and BMI-cancer effects from meta-analyses, and policy and cancer costs from established sources. Cost-effectiveness was evaluated as net costs with 3% annual discounting, under both government affordability and societal perspectives. Probabilistic sensitivity analyses jointly incorporated uncertainty in model inputs using 1000 simulations. RESULTS: The SSB tax policy was estimated to prevent 20,545 (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 12,586 to 32,000) new cancers cases and 10,181 (6362 to 16,000) cancer deaths and add 67,100 (41,100 to 104,505) quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) over lifetime. Largest health benefits were seen for endometrial, kidney, and liver cancer. The SSB tax was estimated to generate $1.17 billion industry compliance costs, $1.20 billion in government implementation costs, and $5.4 billion in lifetime medical savings for the 13 types of cancer. The SSB tax was net cost saving from a societal perspective and government affordability perspective, at $3.2 billion (95% UI: $2.4 to $4.1) and $4.1 billion (95% UI: $3.4 to $4.9), respectively, not including the $6.6 billion generated from tax revenues. CONCLUSIONS: Our modeling estimates that a national $0.01 per oz SSB tax would reduce obesity associated cancer cases and deaths among U.S. adults, and be cost savings from both a societal perspective and government affordability perspective. Background Diet is an important risk factor for cancer that is amenable to intervention. Estimating the cancer burden associated with diet informs evidence-based priorities for nutrition policies to reduce cancer burden in the United States. Methods Using a comparative risk assessment model that incorporated nationally representative data on dietary intake, national cancer incidence, and estimated associations of diet with cancer risk from meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies, we estimated the annual number and proportion of new cancer cases attributable to suboptimal intakes of seven dietary factors among US adults ages 20 years or older, and by population subgroups. Results An estimated 80 110 (95% uncertainty interval [UI] = 76 316 to 83 657) new cancer cases were attributable to suboptimal diet, accounting for 5.2% (95% UI = 5.0% to 5.5%) of all new cancer cases in 2015. Of these, 67 488 (95% UI = 63 583 to 70 978) and 4.4% (95% UI = 4.2% to 4.6%) were attributable to direct associations and 12 589 (95% UI = 12 156 to 13 038) and 0.82% (95% UI = 0.79% to 0.85%) to obesity-mediated associations. By cancer type, colorectal cancer had the highest number and proportion of diet-related cases (n = 52 225, 38.3%). By diet, low consumption of whole grains (n = 27 763, 1.8%) and dairy products (n = 17 692, 1.2%) and high intake of processed meats (n = 14 524, 1.0%) contributed to the highest burden. Men, middle-aged (45–64 years) and racial/ethnic minorities (non-Hispanic blacks, Hispanics, and others) had the highest proportion of diet-associated cancer burden than other age, sex, and race/ethnicity groups. Conclusions More than 80 000 new cancer cases are estimated to be associated with suboptimal diet among US adults in 2015, with middle-aged men and racial/ethnic minorities experiencing the largest proportion of diet-associated cancer burden in the United States.

Background: Social media is rapidly changing how cancer survivors search for and share health information and can potentially serve as a cost-effective channel to reach cancer survivors and invite them to participate in nutrition intervention programs. Objective: This study aimed to assess the feasibility of using Twitter to recruit cancer survivors for a web-based survey and assess their willingness to complete web-based nutrition surveys, donate biospecimens, and to be contacted about web-based nutrition programs. Methods: We contacted 301 Twitter accounts of cancer organizations, advocates, and survivors to request assistance promoting a web-based survey among cancer survivors. The survey asked respondents whether they would be willing to complete web-based nutrition or lifestyle surveys, donate biospecimens, and be contacted about web-based nutrition programs. Survey promotion rate was assessed by the percentage of Twitter accounts that tweeted the survey link at least once. Survey response was assessed by the number of survey respondents who answered at least 85% (26/30). We compared the characteristics of cancer survivors who responded to this survey with those who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2010 and evaluated factors associated with willingness to complete web-based surveys, donate biospecimens, and be contacted to participate in web-based nutrition programs among those who responded to the social media survey. Results: Over 10 weeks, 113 Twitter account owners and 165 of their followers promoted the survey, and 444 cancer survivors provided complete responses. Two-thirds of respondents indicated that they would be willing to complete web-based nutrition or lifestyle surveys (297/444, 67.0%) and to be contacted to participate in web-based nutrition interventions (294/444, 66.2%). The percentage of respondents willing to donate biospecimens were 59.3% (263/444) for oral swab, 52.1% (231/444) for urine sample, 37.9% (168/444) for blood sample, and 35.6% (158/444) for stool sample. Policy Points High-profile international evidence reviews by the World Health Organization, the World Cancer Research Fund, the American Institute for Cancer Research, and the American Cancer Society concluded that processed meat consumption increases the risk of cancer. The red meat and processed meat industries are influential in the United States and in several other nations. The US federal government supports public-private partnerships for commodity meat promotion and advertising. Four potential policy options to affect consumption of processed meat are taxation, reduced processed meat quantities in school meal standards, public service announcements, and warning labels. Feasibility of these options would be enhanced by an explicit and science-based statement on processed meat in the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Context The World Health Organization, the World Cancer Research Fund, and the American Cancer Society have each in recent years concluded that processed meats are probable carcinogens. The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans did not separately evaluate health effects of processed meat, although it mentioned lower processed meat intakes among characteristics of healthy diets. Methods We summarized the international scientific literature on meat intake and cancer risk; described the scientific and political processes behind the periodic Dietary Guidelines for Americans; described the US red meat and processed meat industries and the economic structure of government-supported industry initiatives for advertising and promotion; and reviewed and analyzed specific factors and precedents that influence the feasibility of four potential policy approaches to reduce processed meat intake. Findings Based on a review of 800 epidemiological studies, the World Health Organization found sufficient evidence in humans that processed meat is carcinogenic, estimating that each 50-gram increase in daily intake increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%. Among the four policy responses we studied, legal feasibility is highest in the US for three policy options: reducing processed meat in school meals and other specific government-sponsored nutrition programs; a local, state, or federal tax on processed meat; and public service announcements on health harms of processed meats by either the government or private sector entities. Legal feasibility is moderate for a fourth policy option, mandatory warning labels, due to outstanding legal questions about the minimum evidence required to support this policy. Political feasibility is influenced by the economic and political power of the meat industries and also depends on decisions in the next round of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans about how to assess and describe the link between processed meat consumption and cancer risk. Conclusions Public policy initiatives to reduce processed meat intake have a strong scientific and public health justification and are legally feasible, but political feasibility is influenced by the economic and political power of meat industries and also by uncertainty about the likely treatment of processed meat in the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Fingerprints of lipophilic components in the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza and S.yunnanensis were analyzed by UPLC-DADand UPLC coupled with mass spectroscopy to evaluate the differences and similarities of the lipophilic components in the two kinds of herbs.The UPLC analysis of 18 batches of S.miltiorrhiza and 16 batches of S.yunnanensis was performed on a 25℃Thermo Accucore C_(18)column(2.1 mm×100 mm,2.6μm)by Shimadzu LC-20AD;mobile phase was 0.026%phosphoric acid(A)-acetonitrile(B)with gradient elution;flow rate was 0.4 m L·min~(-1);detection wavelength was set at 270 nm;injection volume was 2μL.The molecular structures of the lipophilic components were analyzed on a 25℃Thermo Accucore C_(18)column(2.1 mm×100 mm,2.6μm)by Thermo U3000 UPLC Q Exactive Orbitrap LC-MS/MS with a mobile phaseconsisting of 0.1%formic acid water(A)and 0.1%formic acidacetonitrile(B).The mass spectrometry was acquired in positive modes using ESI.There are 10 common peaks in the lipophilic components of S.miltiorrhiza.The similarity between the 16 batches of S.miltiorrhiza and their own reference spectra was greater than 0.942,and the average similarity was 0.973.There are 12 common peaks in the lipophilic components of S.yunnanensis.The similarity between the 18 batches of S.yunnanensis and their own reference spectra was greater than 0.937,and the average similarity was 0.976.The similarity between the reference chromatograms of S.miltiorrhiza and S.yunnanensis was only 0.900.There are three lipophilic components in S.yunnanensis,which are not found in S.miltiorrhiza,and one of which isα-lapachone.There is a lipophilic component in S.miltiorrhiza not found in S.yunnanensis,which may be miltirone.The two herbs contain 8 common lipophilic components including dihydrotanshinoneⅠ,cryptotanshinone,tanshinoneⅠ,tanshinoneⅡ_A,nortanshinone in which the content of tanshinoneⅡ_A,dihydrotanshinoneⅠand cryptotanshinone of S.yunnanensisis significantly lower than that of S.miltiorrhiza(P0.01),and the contents of tanshinoneⅠand nortanshinone are significantly lower than that of S.miltiorrhiza too(P0.05).There are significant differences in the types and contents of lipophilic components between the roots of S.miltiorrhiza and S.yunnanensis,and the similarity between the fingerprints of interspecies is much lower than that between the same species.Therefore,the roots of S.miltiorrhiza and S.yunnanensis are two kinds of herbs which are quite different in chemical compounds and compositions.

BACKGROUND: The health benefits and risks of dietary supplementation use remain controversial. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between dietary supplement use, levels of nutrient intake from foods and supplements, and mortality among US adults. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999–2010 linked to National Death Index Mortality Data. PATIENTS: 30,899 US adults aged 20+ years who answered questions on dietary supplement use. MEASUREMENTS: Dietary supplement use in the past 30 days and nutrient intake from foods and supplements. Outcomes included mortality from all causes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 6.1 years, a total of 3,613 total deaths occurred, including 945 CVD deaths and 805 cancer deaths. Ever use of dietary supplements was not associated with mortality outcomes. Adequate nutrient intake (≥ Estimated Average Requirement or Adequate Intake) of vitamin A, vitamin K, magnesium, and zinc was associated with reduced all-cause or CVD mortality, but the associations were confined to nutrient intake from foods not supplements. Excess nutrient intake (> Tolerable Upper Intake Level) of calcium was associated with an increased risk of cancer mortality (> vs. ≤ Tolerable Upper Intake Level: multivariable-adjusted mortality rate ratio = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.07, 2.45; multivariable-adjusted mortality rate difference = 1.7, 95% CI: −0.1, 3.5 per 1,000 person-years), and the association appeared to be related to calcium intake from supplements (≥1000 mg/d vs. non-users: multivariable-adjusted mortality rate ratio=1.53, 95% CI: 1.04, 2.25; multivariable-adjusted mortality rate difference = 1.5, 95% CI: −0.1, 3.1 per 1,000 person-years) not foods. LIMITATIONS: Results from observational data may be affected by residual confounding. Reporting of dietary supplement use is subject to recall bias. CONCLUSION: Use of dietary supplements is not associated with mortality benefits among US adults. PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: National Institutes of Health

The ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([EMIm]Ac) was investigated as a promising absorbent for absorption refrigeration. To improve the thermal conductivity of pure [EMIm]Ac, IL-based nanofluids (ionanofluids, INFs) were prepared by adding graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). The thermal stability of the IL and INFs was analysed. The variations of the thermal conductivity, viscosity and specific heat capacity resulting from the addition of the GNPs were then measured over a wide range of temperatures and mass fractions. The measured data were fitted with appropriate equations and compared with the corresponding classical models. The results revealed that the IL and INFs were thermally stable over the measurement range. The thermal conductivity greatly increased with increasing mass fraction, while only slightly changed with increasing temperature. A maximum enhancement in thermal conductivity of 43.2% was observed at a temperature of 373.15 K for the INF with a mass fraction of 5%. The numerical results revealed that the dispersion of the GNPs in the pure IL effectively improved the local heat transfer coefficient by up to 28.6%.

As the competition for marine resources is increasingly fierce, the security of underwater acoustic communication has attracted a great deal of attention. The information and location of the communicating platform can be leaked during the traditional underwater acoustic communication technology. According to the unique advantages of chaos communication, we put forward a novel communication scheme using complex parameter modulation and the complex Lorenz system. Firstly, we design a feedback controller and parameter update laws in a complex-variable form with rigorous mathematical proofs (while many previous references on the real-variable form were only special cases in which the imaginary part was zero), which can be realized in practical engineering; then we design a new communication scheme employing parameter modulation. The main parameter spaces of the complex Lorenz system are discussed, then they are adopted in our communication scheme. We also find that there exist parametric attractors in the complex Lorenz system. We make numerical simulations in two channels for digital signals and the simulations verify our conclusions.

Iron and Magnesium isotopes have been increasingly widely applied to trace mineralization processes of hydrothermal ore systems. In this study, Fe and Mg isotope compositions of whole-rocks, Fe-bearing minerals (pyrite and ankerite) and Mg-bearing mineral (ankerite) from the Shuangwang gold deposits are investigated to evaluate Fe and Mg isotope behaviors in a gold deposit hydrothermal system and provide new constraints on ore-forming processes. The results showed that the magmatic rocks in the Shuangwang gold deposit (mainly granodiorite , monzonitic granite and lamprophyre) yielded δ 56Fe values of 0.05–0.10‰ and δ26 Mg values concentrated in a narrow range from −0.23‰ to −0.21‰. The gold orebodies are hosted by a NW-trending breccia belt. The wall rock samples (mainly argillaceous limestone, carbonaceous slate and albitite) have higher δ 56Fe values of 0.12–0.29‰ and a wide δ26 Mg range from −2.54‰ to −0.35‰. Pyrite mineral separates show larger δ 56 Fe variation from −0.44‰ to 0.16‰, whereas ankerite has a small δ 56Fe range from −0.15‰ to −0.06 and a δ26Mg range from −0.66‰ to −0.35‰. The crystallization of magmatic rocks incorporated preferentially heavy Fe isotopes, resulting in enrichment of light Fe isotopes in the residual fluid exsolved from magma . The interactions between the wall rocks and the fluids resulted in increase of δ 56Fe value in fluids and resulted in decrease of δ56Fe value in the wall rocks. However, the fluid still had much lighter Fe isotope composition. Thus, Fe in the main ore-forming stages is regarded as derived from the magmatic stock. The opposite enrichment in Fe isotopes between pyrite and ankerite from stages II and III may be explained by equilibrium Fe isotope fractionation in an open system. In addition, the negative δ56Fe value in pyrite from stage IV is indicative of the equilibrium between FeS and dissolved Fe in a closed system. The exsolved fluid from magma has Mg isotope composition similar to magmatic rock, and the water–rock reaction led to the enrichment of heavy Fe isotopes in fluid. The evolutions of Mg isotopes in stages II and III precipitation matched well with the prediction of Rayleigh fractionation model. The Mg from wall rocks contributed to the composition of hydrothermal magnesium isotopes during the formation of the Shuangwang gold deposit. A multi-origin is supposed whereby the main stage ore-forming fluids were derived from metamorphic water and were affected by the influx of magmatic water.

e22017 Background: Nutritional intake can impact health. Data describing associations between diet or specific dietary components and chronic health conditions in long-term survivors of childhood cancer are limited. This study evaluated the associations between specific components of diet and chronic disease burden in childhood cancer survivors. Methods: Adult survivors (≥5 years) of childhood cancer participating in SJLIFE (n = 2822), who completed a clinical evaluation and the Block Food Frequency Questionnaire were included. 168 chronic conditions were graded using a modified Common Terminology for Adverse Events. Conditions were summed within grade category, multiplied by weights (1, 2, 3, and 8 for grades 1-4, respectively) and standardized (z-scores) with higher scores indicating more disease burden. Adherence to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans was scored with the Healthy Eating Index-15 (HEI). Intake of key food groups and nutrients was estimated and divided into quartiles for analysis. Multivariable logistic regression, adjusted for sex, age, and race was used to compare dietary intake and higher disease burden (defined as a z-score > 0). Results: Survivors (median [range] survival time 23 [10-49] years, diagnosis age 7 [0-24] years, 47.6% female, 16.9% non-white, 38.0% leukemia, 19.5% lymphoma, 10.3% CNS tumor, 32.2% other solid tumor) had an average of 10.0 (95% CI 9.7-10.3) conditions by 30 years of age and had a mean score on the HEI of 57.9±12.2 (out of 100 where the population average is 59). Scores on the HEI were not associated with disease burden z-score. Compared to those in the lowest quartile, survivors who consumed in the highest quartile of dark green vegetables (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.61-0.97), legumes (OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.59-0.92), and whole grains (OR 0.75, 95% CI 0.60-0.95) were less likely to have a disease burden z-score > 0, whereas those who consumed in the highest quartile of white potatoes (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.05-1.64), refined grains (OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.01-1.58), and added sugars (OR: 1.27, 95% CI 1.01-1.56) were more likely to have a disease burden z-score > 0. Conclusions: Specific components of diet are associated with chronic disease burden in long term survivors of cancer. Dietary interventions may have potential to decrease chronic disease burden in this population.

Paraffin is widely used in medium- and low-temperature storage because of its excellent properties. To improve thermal conductivity of paraffin, carbon nanomaterials filler with high thermal conductivity was gradually added to. In this paper, composite phase change materials (PCMs) composed of cold storage paraffin with a phase transition temperature of 4°C and two types of high thermal conductivity nanoparticles, graphene nano-platelets (GNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), were selected and prepared by mechanical separation with a suitable dispersant. The relationship between thermal conductivity and standing time of two composite PCMs revealed that the thermal conductivity of the composite PCMs of GNPs/paraffin and CNTs/paraffin remained stable at room temperature for 20 days and 40 days, respectively. When the mass fraction of GNPs or CNTs is 5%, the thermal conductivities of the composites, which are 0.266 W / ( m·K ) and 0.250 W / ( m·K ) , respectively, increase the most. Compared to those of pure paraffin and the CNTs/paraffin composites, the DSC curves of the GNPs/paraffin composites moved forward due to the higher thermal conductivity of the composite PCMs, which was more accurate for the experimental operation procedure. Due to the different structure and arrangement of particles, the latent heat of CNTs/paraffin was slightly lower than that of GNPs/paraffin with the same mass fraction of paraffin. The composites exhibited stable and excellent phase transition characteristics after 100 melting and solidification cycle tests.

High mobility box 1 (HMGB1), a damage-associated molecular pattern, has crucial roles in induction of neuropathic pain. Upregulation of HMGB1 around the injured sciatic nerve contributes to mechanical hypersensitivity following partial sciatic nerve ligation (PSNL) of mice. However, central mechanisms mediating perineural HMGB1-induced nociceptive hypersensitivity, especially within the spinal dorsal horn, have not been determined. The current study shows that perineural treatment of naive mice with recombinant HMGB1, which mimics increased HMGB1 around the injured sciatic nerve of PSNL mice, significantly induced activation of microglia, but not astrocytes, in the spinal dorsal horn. Intraperitoneal injection of minocycline, a microglial inhibitor, ameliorated perineural rHMGB1-induced mechanical hypersensitivity. In addition, blockade of spinal N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors significantly prevented perineural rHMGB1-induced mechanical hypersensitivity and microglial activation. In contrast, non-NMDA receptors, neurokinin 1 receptor, colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor and P2Y12 receptor were not involved in perineural rHMGB1-induced mechanical hypersensitivity. Furthermore, repeated perineural treatment with an anti-HMGB1 antibody blocked activation of spinal microglia in PSNL mice. Collectively, the current findings demonstrate that increased HMGB1 around injured sciatic nerve might induce nociceptive hypersensitivity through activation of spinal microglia. Thus, HMGB1-dependent mechanisms between the injured sciatic nerve and spinal dorsal horn could be crucial in induction of neuropathic pain.

Soil potassium (K) spatial heterogeneity was general in tea gardens. Yet, rhizosphere processes of tea plants under soil K spatial heterogeneity is unclear. K heterogeneity was simulated by multi-layer split-root system as follows: both sides had K fertilizer (K+/K+), both sides had no K fertilizer (K0/K0), one side had K fertilizer (K+/K0–K+) and the other side had no K fertilizer (K+/K0–K0). Under K spatial heterogeneity, the differences in rhizosphere processes between the two tea plants (low-K tolerant genotype “1511” and low-K sensitive genotype “1601”) were compared. “1511” could maintain relatively stable fine root proportions under different treatments. For “1511” and “1601”, the strongest soil K activation abilities of root exudates appeared in K+/K0–K0 and K+/K0–K+, respectively. The available K and slowly available K of the rhizosphere soils in K+/K0–K+ was 14% and 8% less than those in K+/K+ for “1511”, but the above form K of the rhizosphere soils in K+/K0–K+ was 8% and 10% higher than those in K+/K+ for “1601”. In conclusion, under the spatial K heterogeneity, low-K tolerant tea plant could achieve high K efficiency mainly through the following ways: (1) maintaining good fine root developments; (2) improving the soil K activation in K+/K0–K0 through the secretion of organic acids; (3) promoting the utilization of soil K in K+/K0–K+. Our findings may contribute to the improvement of tea planting patterns and quality in low K tea gardens, and that to understand the interactions between roots and soil of the low K-tolerant genotype tea plants under the condition of K spatial heterogeneity.

BACKGROUNDS: The maxillofacial region is the exposed part of the human body and is susceptible to injury due to the limited protective equipment. Due to anatomic proximity of the maxillofacial skeleton and cranium, the force can be transmitted directly to the brain in case of maxillofacial impact, maxillofacial injuries are often accompanied with craniocerebral trauma. Therefore, it is necessary to study the biomechanical response mechanism of trauma to improve prevention of traumatic brain injury (TBI). METHODS: To investigate the biomechanical mechanism between the two injuries, a finite element (FE) head model including skull, midfacial bones and detailed anatomical intracranial features was successfully developed based on CT/MRI data. The model was validated by comparing it with one classical cadaver experiment. During the simulations, three different load forces were used to simulate common causes of injury seen in the clinic including boxing-type impact injury and car accident-type impact injury, and four locations on the model were considered as common injury sites in the midface. RESULTS: Twelve common impact scenarios were reproduced by FE simulation successfully. Simulations showed that there was a linear relationship between the severity of TBI and the collision energy. The location of TBI was directly related to the location of the impact site, and a lateral impact was more injurious to the brain than an anterior-posterior impact. The relative movement between the skull and brain could cause physical damage to the brain. The study indicated that the midfacial bones acted as a structure capable of absorbing energy and protecting the brain from impact. CONCLUSIONS: This biomechanical information may assist surgeons better understand and diagnose brain injuries accompanied by midfacial fractures.

Background Despite being motivated to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors, cancer survivors are still burdened by suboptimal dietary intake and low levels of physical activity. Objective The aim of this study was to assess changes in nutrition and physical activity behaviors after cancer diagnosis or treatment, barriers to eating a healthy diet and staying physically active, and sources for seeking nutrition advice reported by breast cancer survivors. Design This was a cross-sectional study. Participants/setting The study included 315 survivors of breast cancer who were recruited through social media and provided completed responses to an online exploratory survey. Main outcome measures Self-reported changes in nutrition and physical activity behaviors after cancer diagnosis or treatment, perceived barriers to healthy eating and physical activity, and sources of nutrition advice were measured. Statistical analysis Frequency distribution of nutrition and physical activity behaviors and changes, barriers to healthy eating and physical activity, and sources of nutrition advice were estimated. Results About 84.4% of the breast cancer survivors reported at least 1 positive behavior for improving nutrition and physical activity after cancer diagnosis or treatment. Fatigue was the top barrier to both making healthy food choices (72.1%) and staying physically active (65.7%), followed by stress (69.5%) and treatment-related changes in eating habits (eg, change in tastes, loss of appetite, and craving unhealthy food) (31.4% to 48.6%) as barriers to healthy eating, and pain or discomfort (53.7%) as barriers to being physically active. Internet search (74.9%) was the primary source for seeking nutrition advice. Fewer than half reported seeking nutrition advice from health care providers. Conclusions Despite making positive changes in nutrition and physical activity behaviors after cancer diagnosis or treatment, breast cancer survivors experience treatment-related barriers to eating a healthy diet and staying physically active. Our results reinforce the need for developing tailored intervention programs and integrating nutrition into oncology care.

Herein, dual-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrids (rGO/AuNP/luminol) with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and luminol were prepared viaπ-π conjugation and electrostatic interaction. The as-prepared rGO/AuNP/luminol hybrids exhibited enhanced and long-persistent chemiluminescence (CL) performance without decay for one hour when mixed with H2O2; this was due to the generation of ˙OH, O2˙-, 1O2, and π-C[double bond, length as m-dash]C˙ species. A sensitive and selective CL sensor based on the rGO/AuNP/luminol hybrid CL enhancing system was developed for cholesterol quantitation in the linear range from 0.71 to 11.43 μM with a detection limit of 0.55 μM. Furthermore, the proposed method was successfully exploited for the determination of cholesterol in human serum samples.

The noradrenaline-adrenergic system has a crucial role in controlling nociceptive transduction at the spinal level. While α-adrenergic receptors are known to regulate nociceptive neurotransmitter release at the spinal presynaptic level, it is not entirely clear whether β-adrenergic receptors are involved in controlling pain transduction at the spinal level as well. The current study elucidated a role of β-adrenergic receptors in neuropathic pain in mice following a partial sciatic nerve ligation (PSNL). In addition, the cellular and intracellular signaling cascade induced by β-adrenergic receptors in neuropathic mice was elaborated. Intrathecal injection of isoproterenol (1 nmol), a nonselective β-adrenergic receptor agonist, briefly ameliorated hind paw mechanical hypersensitivity of PSNL mice. Isoproterenol's antinociceptive effect was mediated through β2-adrenergic receptors since pretreatment with ICI118551, a selective β2-adrenergic receptor antagonist, but not with CGP20712A, a selective β1-adrenergic receptor antagonist, significantly attenuated isoproterenol's effect. Furthermore, intrathecal treatment with a selective β2-adrenergic receptor agonist, terbutaline, but not a selective β1-adrenergic receptor agonist, dobutamine, also significantly ameliorated neuropathic pain. Fourteen days after PSNL, increased phosphorylation of both p38 Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in microglia and c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) in astrocytes of ipsilateral spinal dorsal horn were observed. Phosphorylation of both microglial p38 MAPK and astrocytic JNK were downregulated by stimulation of the β2-adrenergic receptor. Together, these results suggest that spinal β2-adrenergic receptor have an inhibitory role in neuropathic nociceptive transduction at the spinal level through a downregulation of glial activity, perhaps through modulation of MAP kinases phosphorylation. Thus, targeting of β2-adrenergic receptors could be an effective therapeutic strategy in treating neuropathic pain.

The Fuxing porphyry Cu deposit is a recently discovered deposit in Eastern Tianshan, Xinjiang, northwestern China. The Cu mineralization is associated with the Fuxing plagiogranite porphyry and monzogranite, mainly presenting as various types of hydrothermal veins or veinlets in alerted wall rocks, with potassic, chlorite, phyllic, and propylitic alteration developed. The ore-forming process can be divided into four stages: stage I barren quartz veins, stage II quartz–chalcopyrite–pyrite veins, stage III quartz–polymetallic sulfide veins and stage IV quartz–calcite veins. Four types of fluid inclusions (FIs) can be distinguished in the Fuxing deposit, including hypersline (H-type), vapor-rich two-phase (V-type), liquid-rich two-phase (L-type), and trace amounts of pure vapor inclusions (P-type), but only the stage I quartz contains all types of FIs. The stages II and III quartz have two types of FIs, with exception of H- and P-types. In stage IV quartz minerals, only the L-type inclusions can be observed. The FIs in quartz of stages I, II, III and IV are mainly homogenized at temperatures of 357–518 °C, 255–393 °C, 234–322 °C and 145–240 °C, with salinities of 1.9–11.6 wt.% NaCl equiv., 1.6–9.6 wt.% NaCl equiv., 1.4–7.7 wt.% NaCl equiv. and 0.9–3.7 wt.% NaCl equiv., respectively. The ore-forming fluids of the Fuxing deposit are characterized by high temperature, moderate salinity and relatively oxidized condition. Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of quartz indicate that the ore-forming fluids were gradually evolved from magmatic to meteoric in origin. Sulfur and lead isotopes suggest that the ore-forming materials were derived from a deep-seated magma source. The Cu mineralization in the Fuxing deposit occurred at a depth of ~ 1 km, and the changes of oxygen fugacity, decompression boiling, and local mixing with meteoric water were most likely critical for the formation of the Fuxing Cu deposit.
