101. An experimental investigation of interfacial temperatures in blade-seal material rubbing of aircraft compressors

Abstract

Results are presented for the rubbing of rotating (100 m/s) titanium blade specimens, with different plasma-sprayed tip coating, against an abradable porous seal material at two different incursion rates. In general, there was a good correspondence between the average transverse force of rubbing and the seal specimen surface temperature. Instantaneous seal surface temperature measurement showed a significant temperature jump before and after each rubbing with a high rate of cooling during each revolution and a high overall temperature level. Numerical predictions of both blade and seal temperature agreed well for the bare blade tip experiments but were consistently high for the coated blades. This suggests that the thermal properties of the coatings may significantly affect the temperatures and hence the wear characteristics of the system.

Abstract

A thermal analysis was made of a blade-seal configuration to determine the effects of thermal contact resistance, blade speed, and thermal properties upon the interfacial temperature. The analysis disclosed that while the thermal properties of the blade or the seal specimen strongly affect the temperatures in their respective parts, the factors which control the overall temperature field are the contact resistance and the heat generated at the interface.

Abstract

Let A and B be two unital Banach algebras and letMbe an unital Banach A,B-module. Also, let T = ... be the corresponding triangular Banach algebra. Forrest and Marcoux (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 354 (2002) 1435-1452) have studied the n-weak amenability of triangular Banach algebras. In this paper, we investigate (2n - 1)-ideal amenability of T for all n = 1. We introduce the structure of ideals of these Banach algebras and then, we show that (2n - 1)-ideal amenability of T depends on (2n - 1)-ideal amenability of Banach algebras A and B. Abstract

Pressed ceramic pellets of the high-temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (T(c) = 85 K) were investigated by reflectance spectroscopy in the infrared and visible regions at several temperatures both below and above the superconducting transition. In the process of identifying and analyzing vibrational lines in these samples, two problems arise: diffuse scattering connected with the grainy surface and a non-conventional baseline caused by intense absorption of the electronic background present in the infrared region. After eliminating the effects due to these processes, the temperature dependence of the vibrational lines can be extracted. It is concluded that none of the lines behaves in an anomalous way, i.e., no vibration strongly coupled to the electronic system was found.
