The heterotopic As,S,P ligands 1-AsPh[sub 2])[sub 2]-2-S[sup t]Bu-3-PPh[sub 2]-C[sub 6]H[sub 3] (2) and 1-AsPh[sub 2]-2-SH-3-PPh[sub 2]-C[sub 6]H[sub 3] (4) and dinucleating As,S,As ligand 1,3-(AsPh[sub 2])[sub 2]-2-S[sup t]Bu-C[sub 6]H[sub 3] (3) have been synthesized and characterized. The structural motif of these compounds suggests great potential for their use as monodentate, bidentate chelating, bidentate bridging, and tridentate ligands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

P(2-SHC6H4)3 ( PS3H3) reacts with GaMe3 (1:1) to give GaMe{P(2-SC6H4)2(2-SHC6H4)-κ3 S, S′,P} ( 1), which could be deprotonated with NEt3 to give [NEt3H][GaMe{P(2-SC6H4)3-κ3 S, S′,P}] ( 2). The 1:2 reaction of E(2-SHC6H4)3 [ E = P ( PS3H3), As ( AsS3H3)] with GaMe3 gave the dinuclear complexes GaMe{ E(2-SC6H4)2(2-S{GaMe2(THF)}C6H4)-κ3 S, S′,E} [ E = P ( 3), As ( 4)]. Serendipitous hydrolysis of 4 resulted in small amounts of the hexanuclear gallium hydroxide complex cyclo-{GaMe(μ-OH)}6{As(2-SC6H4)3-κ S, S′,S′′}2 ( 5). New aryl-hydrazinyl-1,3-selenazole and aroyl-hydrazonyl-1,3-selenazoles were synthesized via Hantzsch type condensation reactions of selenosemicarbazides with α-halogenocarbonyl derivatives, under classical versus microwave heating conditions. Excellent yields and shorter reaction times were obtained under irradiation conditions. The structures of the synthesized compounds were assigned based on spectroscopic data (FT-IR, 1H-NMR), MS and elemental analysis. Selenazole derivatives were screened for their anti-proliferative effects against two leukemia cell lines (CCRF-CEM and HL60) and three carcinoma cell lines (MDA-MB231, HCT116 and U87MG). This study focuses on the effects of apllying ninhydrin adduct with dibuthyltin chloride C6H4(CO)2CO.SnBu2Cl2 on the biochemical composition and growth of chrysanthemum microcutting in vitro. The effects adduct of the dibuthyltin chloride with ninhydrin and the effects of ninhydrin on the untreated control were compared. The effect was observed by biochemical analysis: amount of dry substance, total chlorophyll, total carotenoids, and total proteins. The presence of the chemical compounds the ninhydrin adduct with dibuthyltin chloride and the ninhydrin induces the accumulation of dry substance. Photosynthesis processes are affected, the amount of chlorophyll and carotenoids are both diminished for the treated plants in comparison to the control (between 30 and 60% lower). The ninhydrin adduct with dibuthyltin chloride increases the amount of protein. The effects of the compound over the rhizogenesis are quite interesting. While the ninhydrin acts as a stimulator, the ninhydrin adduct with dibuthyltin chloride acts as an inhibitor. Calculations at the B3LYP/6-311 level were performed on a series of arsaallenes and arsaphosphaallenes of the type RAs=C=CR2 and RAs=C=PR in order to evaluate the nature of the As=C bond. Chlorine is one of the most used water disinfectant agent used on the world. The use of chlorine in the treatment of drinking water has virtually eliminated waterborne diseases, because chlorine can kill or inactivate most microorganisms commonly found in water. The majority of drinking water treatment plants in Romania use some form of chlorine to disinfect drinking water: to treat the water directly in the treatment plant and/or to maintain a chlorine residual in the distribution system to prevent bacterial regrowth. Unfortunately it's used results in formation of some disinfection by products (DBPs) that are suspected from harmful effects on humans. Such of disinfection byproducts are trihalomethanes (THMs). Trihalomethanes are a group of volatile organic compounds that can form when the chlorine used to disinfect drinking water reacts with naturally occurring organic matter (e.g., decaying leaves and vegetation). The preliminary results presented in this paper shown that the THMs levels from Gilau Water treatment Plants and Cluj-Napoca distribution system. Aim To assess experience, knowledge, and opinions of Romanian general practitioners (GPs) on palliative health care in Romania. Methods A questionnaire survey was performed among 1283 GPs in five districts of Romania in 2004. The data were collected on the GPs' self-assessed experience in, knowledge of, and opinion on palliative care, entered into a database, and analyzed. The GPs were also asked to indicate if they needed to improve their knowledge about palliative care. Results The response rate was 71%. GPs mostly reported having limited experience in providing palliative care, with 24% reporting to have provided palliative care frequently, and 55% reporting to have it provided sometimes. Significant correlations were found between the GPs' experience in palliative care provision and their age, sex, and place of work. The majority of Romanian GPs reported that their medical knowledge was inadequate for the provision of care to terminal patients at home. Over 80% of GPs agreed to develop palliative care services and to participate in a training program. Conclusion GPs in Romania reported to recognize the need for improvement of palliative care delivery in their country. They expressed a need for better knowledge of palliative care and agreed that multidisciplinary teams to provide palliative care at home would be the best form of delivering this type of health care. The bulky tritopic phosphanylthiolato pincer ligand (Tipp)P(2-SHC 6 H 4) 2 (Tipp = 2,4,6- i Pr 3 C 6 H 2) (TippPS 2 H 2) reacts with nickel dichloride to give the dinuclear nickel(II) complex [Ni{(Tipp)P(µ -2-SC 6 H 4) 2 -κ3 S , S' , P }] 2 (1). The X-ray structure analysis of 1 shows a dinuclear complex consisting of two nickel(II) phosphanyldithiolato units formed with the dianionic tridentate pincer ligand, [Ni(TippPS 2)], which dimerise via thiolato bridges involving one of the two sulfur atoms of each pincer ligand. The resulting four-membered central Ni 2 S 2 ring has a butterfly conformation. The molecule is located on a crystallographic twofold axis and displays two chiral phosphorus centres. A dinuclear gold complex, [Au 2 {μ-(SC 6 H 4 -2-AsPh 2)-κS,κAs} 2 ], with a ten-membered centrosymmetric Au 2 As 2 S 2 C 4 ring was structurally characterised (C: dark grey, H: grey, As: red, S: yellow, Au: brown). [Display omitted] The title compound [Au 2 {μ-(SC 6 H 4 -2-AsPh 2)-κ S ,κ As } 2 ] consists of a dinuclear unit with two AsS– ligands (AsSH = 1-AsPh 2 -2-SHC 6 H 4) bridging the gold(I) atoms. Each gold(I) atom is coordinated by a sulfur atom from one ligand and one arsenic atom from the other ligand with formation of a ten-membered centrosymmetric Au 2 As 2 S 2 C 4 ring. Abstract: On simultaneous effect of iodine-catalysis and microwave irradiation Schiff bases deactivated by electron-donating C-phenothiazinyl- and ferrocenyl-substituents, respectively, underwent formal inverse electron demand aza-Diels–Alder (DA) cycloaddition with 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrane (DHP) employed as donor component. Depending on the substitution pattern of the N-phenyl group the reactions of phenothiazine-containing imines afforded 2H-pyrano[3,2-c]quinolines or 3-(3-hydroxypropyl)quinolines. Irrespective of the electronic properties of the N-phenyl substituent the less reactive ferrocene-based imines were directly converted into quinoline products. The intermediate iodoiminium ions were analysed by B3LYP/DGZVP calculations suggesting stepwise mode for the cycloaddition process. In one case the regioselectivity of the second step of cycloaddition was also interpreted by DFT analysis of the alternative rotamers of the primarily formed DHP adduct. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The utilization of three methylene blue analogues containing hydroxyl functionalized auxochrome units (MBA) and their corresponding novel folic acid esters (FAE) as singlet-oxygen photosensitizers for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) was investigated. A new environmentally friendly ultrasoundassisted procedure for the synthesis of MBA and an optimized protocol for folic acid esterification are reported. Binding of folic acid to MBA did not alter the optical absorption/emission properties of the dyes, the folates exhibiting higher or at least equal fluorescence quantum yields when compared to those of the parent dyes. The photodynamic effect of MBA and FAE was evaluated based on their singlet oxygen generation capacity. The 1O 2 quantum yields, determined by the indirect detection technique using 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran (DPBF) as a sensor, appeared to be ∼ 50 % for MBA and decreased to ∼ 20 % in the case of FAE. The antimicrobial efficacy of the new FAE on four bacterial strains (Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Staphylococcus aureus and Deinococcus radiodurans) showed remarkable results especially when combined with photodynamic therapy. In this work the synthesis and structural characterization by NMR and single crystal X-Ray Diffraction of four new phenothiazine-carboxylate salts (lithium, sodium, potassium, and calcium salts respectively) is reported together with a description of their use as contrast agents in the fabrication of new fluorescent electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone nanomaterials suitable for latent fingerprint (LFP) detection were reported. The optical properties of the new fluorophores and fluorescent electrospun polymer (FEP) nanomaterials (λem = 448–467 nm) were evaluated by UV–Vis absorption/emission spectroscopy. Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) analysis indicated an intense and uniform fluorescence in solid state, with fluorescence lifetime increasing significantly for FEP material (8–11 ns) in comparison to the correspondent blank fluorophore. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations revealed the size of the new FEP materials situated in the nanometric range with fiber or granular morphology. The newly synthesized FEP nanomaterials were successfully tested in the detection of LFP from various smooth or porous surfaces such as glass, metal, plastic, ceramic or wood and demonstrated a versatile capability of direct visualization in UV and daylight of enhanced LFP, as well as of primary lifts collected by gently pressing the polymeric mats on the tested surfaces. The quality of the collected LFPs images was determined mainly by the fluorophore structure, best visualization results being obtained with the phenothiazine sodium carboxylate salt. The new FEP nanomaterials appear suitable for highly accurate forensic investigations, supporting a direct analysis by photography, an expeditive and non-hazardous alternative for avoiding the disadvantages of techniques such as dusting or chemical treatment currently applied in the dactyloscopic identification of a suspect person at the crime scene.
