Abstract

Pollen viabilities and stigma receptivities of 19 accessions in Viola tricolor were assayed by in vitro pollen germination and benzidine-H 2 O 2 method in this paper respectively. The seed set through hand-pollinate selfing was also investigated. The results showed that the pollen germination percent of V. tricolor reach peak at 8 h after in vitro germination and at that time pollen viabilities among 19 accessions were significantly different. The pollen viability of ‘08-NL-H5’ is the highest with 65.14% germination and that of ‘EP-1’ is lowest with 19.32% germination. The stigma receptivity of V. tricolor was up to best on flower opening day and declined to nearly zero on fifth day after flowering. The variation of stigma receptivities among 19 accessions are great, in which the stigma receptivity of ‘Yellow-1’ is strongest and that of ‘Yellow-2’ is weakest. The variation of seed sets among 19 accessions are also divesity by manual selfing pollination. The correlation between the pollen viability and the stigma receptivity is significantly high, but the correlation between seed set and pollen viability, and seed set and stigma receptivity in V. tricolor are low, which implies that the compatibility between pollen and stigma of V. tricolor maybe lies in important role during pollination and fertilization.

Abstract

Using the fresh pollen of Jasminum nudiflorum as test maierial, germination in vitro, I 2 -kI staining and TTC staining methods were used to determine the fresh pollen ability. The relationship between pollen germination and morphology was studied, effects of different storage on the pollen germination were studied too. The results show that there was a certain correlation between pollen germination and morphology. The culture media with different concentration of sucrose and boric had good effects on the pollen germination. The pollen germinating percentage reached the highest after incubated on the media supplemented with 25% sucrose and 0.005% Boric acid, the germination of pollen reached 91.04%. The pollen vitality of Jasminum nudiflorum gradually decreased as store time goes on, the best method to keep vitality of pollen was at − 80 °C, the storage stability of the pollen lasted for 26d.

107. Establishment of plantlet regeneration system of tree peony through lateral buds egraving

Abstract

The low propagation coefficient was a main obstacle in tree peony regeneration for a long time. Here, we present a new plantlet regenernation system to significantly improve the propagation coefficien in tree peony regeneration by lateral buds exsectting and engraving. The procedure are briefly as follows: (1)The medium for proliferation was WPM + 6-BA3.0mg/L + IAA 0.2mg/L, with the proliferation rate up to 787.05%; (2)The medium for plantlets rooting was 1/2 WPM medium supplemented with NAA 1.0 mg/L and IBA 4.0 mg/L which obtained 81.33% rooting rate. Compared with the control, the adventitious buds induction rate was significantly increased with the maximum reaching 96% and the number of adventitious buds were increased by 2.6–4.8 times through cutting. The plantlets were successfully transplanted to potting and the survival rate of transplanted plantlets was 90%.

Abstract

Taking experiments of germination and seedling growth of Trifolium repens under salt stress under the conditions of phytotron, the effects of supplementary CaCl 2 (0.5,1,2,4,8g/L) on germination and seedling growth at NaCl concentration (6g/L) stress, especially on the distribution of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ in roots and shoots were studied. The results show that proper supplementary CaCl 2 (2g/L)can improve seeds germination and seedling growth significantly under 6g/L NaCl, but high level CaCl 2 (8g/L) inhibit seeds germination, supplementary 2g/L CaCl2 can stimulate growth of seedling, and increase shoot / root ratio, and maintain ion balance (the K+, Ca2+ concentration in the seeding increase and Na+ concentration decrease significantly), and improved salt tolerance, but 8g/L CaCl 2 results in adverse effects to the germination and seedling growth, also disturbs the ion homeostasis.

Abstract

A fast computer-aided liver segmentation plays a vital role in computer aided surgery (CAS), especially when using texture-based methods. Large amount of features yielded in supervised segmentation methods may result in slow segment processes. In order to reduce the time required in the segment stage, we applied principal component analysis (PCA), forward orthogonal search by maximizing the overall dependency (FOSMOD), and F-score to our supervised method proposed recently. Our results showed that the F-score may help in accelerating segment stage by approximately 42% whilst the PCA-based feature selection method failed to extract the liver contour correctly. Though FOSMOD can obtain a good segmentation result of liver, it is time consuming comparing with the other two methods. Thus, F-score method may provide an effective solution for accelerating liver segmentation.

Abstract

An efficient enantioselective Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of electron-rich β-naphthol with in situ generated ortho-quinone methides catalyzed by chiral bifunctional amine-squaramide catalysts has been developed. The chiral triarylmethane derivatives were obtained in good to high yields (up to 97% yield) with high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee) for most substrates under mild conditions. Abstract

Thin films of Al2O3 grown using atomic layer deposition (ALD) techniques can protect polymers from erosion by oxygen atoms. To quantify this protection, polyimide substrates with the same chemical repeat unit as Kapton (registered trademark) were applied to quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors. Al2O3 ALD films with varying thicknesses were grown on the polyimide substrates. The ALD-coated polyimide materials were then exposed to a hyperthermal atomic-oxygen beam. The mass loss versus oxygen-atom exposure time was measured in situ by the QCM. Al2O3 ALD film thicknesses of ~35 angstroms were found to protect the polymer from erosion., Published in Thin Solid Films, v516 p4036-4039, 2008.
