Vegetation is the functional subject in the wetland ecosystem and plays an irreplaceable role in biodiversity conservation. It is of great significance to monitor wetland vegetation for scientific assessment of the impact of vegetation on ecological environment and biodiversity. In this paper, a method for extracting wetland vegetation based on short time series Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data set was constructed. First, time series NDVI data were constructed using Sentinel-2 images. Then, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier was used to classify the wetland vegetation types. The distributions of the main wetland vegetation in the study area in 2018 and 2020 were got. Finally, the land cover transfer matrix was calculated to analyze the spatial pattern and change of wetland vegetation emphatically from 2018 to 2020. Based on 46 Sentinel-2 images acquired in 2018 and 2020, the spatial pattern and change of vegetation in the Yellow River Delta wetlands were extracted and analyzed in this paper. The results show that: (1) The method for extracting wetland vegetation in estuary delta based on PIE-Engine platform and short time series NDVI data constructed in this paper can effectively extract the wetland vegetation information. The overall accuracy of the classification results reached 90.47% in 2018 and 80.30% in 2020. The Kappa coefficient of the classification results are 0.874 in 2018 and 0.739 in 2020 respectively. Compared with the results from the random forest classification method and the maximum likelihood classification method, the accuracy is improved by 6.40% and 13.04%, and the Kappa coefficient is improved by 0.055 and 0.069. (2) There were significant changes in vegetation coverage in the Yellow River Delta wetlands from 2018 to 2020. The Spartina alterniflora increased by 3.74km2. The Suaeda salsa degraded seriously, and the total area decreased by 20.38km2. In addition, the increase of Spartina alterniflora effectively guaranteed the stability of the coastline in the study area. This study can provide a theoretical basis for wetlands vegetation classificaton, and the classificaton results can provide scientific reference for protecting the ecological environment of wetlands and maintaining ecological stability.

Background and Objectives: Air pollution, particularly particulate matter (PM), has a variety of adverse effects on human health. PM is known to induce cell death through various pathways, including pyroptosis. Despite its significance, research on PM-induced pyroptosis in nasal epithelial cells remains limited. This study aimed to explore PM-induced pyroptosis in cultured human nasal epithelial cells. Methods: For the in vitro experiments, human nasal epithelial cells were cultured. Cell viability was assessed using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, while cell death was evaluated through propidium iodide (PI) staining and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release measurement. Protein expression levels related to pyroptosis were examined via western blot using antibodies against NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), cleaved caspase-1 (CASP1 P20), gasdermin D (GSDMD)-N, and glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase. Immunofluorescent staining with a CASP1 P20 antibody was conducted to visualize cellular localization. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was utilized to quantify interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 protein levels. Results: Treatment with PM resulted in decreased cell viability, elevated LDH release, and intensified PI staining, indicating cell death. Pyroptosis was confirmed by the elevated expression of NLRP3, CASP1 P20, and GSDMD-N, along with increased levels of IL-1β and IL-18. Inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome with MCC950 reduced the PM-induced effects on protein expression and cytokine release, highlighting the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in PM-triggered pyroptosis in human nasal epithelial cells. Conclusion: We showed that PM triggers pyroptosis in human nasal epithelial cells, driven by NLRP3 inflammasome-dependent signaling pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pyroptosis represents a type of cell death mechanism notable for its cell membrane disruption and the subsequent release of proinflammatory cytokines. The Nod-like receptor family pyrin domain containing inflammasome 3 (NLRP3) plays a critical role in the pyroptosis mechanism associated with various diseases resulting from particulate matter (PM) exposure. Tert-butylhydroquinone (tBHQ) is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used in a variety of foods and products. The aim of this study is to examine the potential of tBHQ as a therapeutic agent for managing sinonasal diseases induced by PM exposure. The occurrence of NLRP3 inflammasome-dependent pyroptosis in RPMI 2650 cells treated with PM < 4 µm in size was confirmed using Western blot analysis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay results for the pyroptosis metabolites IL-1β and IL-18. In addition, the inhibitory effect of tBHQ on PM-induced pyroptosis was confirmed using Western blot and immunofluorescence techniques. The inhibition of tBHQ-mediated pyroptosis was abolished upon nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) knockdown, indicating its involvement in the antioxidant mechanism. tBHQ showed potential as a therapeutic agent for sinonasal diseases induced by PM because NLRP3 inflammasome activation was effectively suppressed via the Nrf2 pathway. Abstract Background Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is considered an independent risk factor for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Methods This study analyzed the effects of various agents on MACE risk reduction in HTG (serum triglyceride ≥ 150 mg/dl) populations by performing a network meta-analysis. We performed a frequentist network meta-analysis to conduct direct and indirect comparisons of interventions. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library were searched for trials until Jul 6, 2020. Randomized controlled trials that reported MACE associated with agents in entire HTG populations or in subgroups were included. The primary outcome was MACE. Results Of the 2005 articles screened, 21 trials including 56,471 patients were included in the analysis. The network meta-analysis results for MACE risk based on frequency data showed that eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) (OR: 1.32; 95% CI 1.19–1.46), gemfibrozil (OR: 1.53; 95% CI 1.20–1.95), niacin plus clofibrate (OR: 2.00; 95% CI 1.23–3.25), pravastatin (OR: 1.32; 95% CI 1.15–1.52), simvastatin (OR: 2.38; 95% CI 1.55–3.66), and atorvastatin (OR: 0.55; 95% CI 0.37–0.82) significantly reduced the risk of MACE compared to the control conditions. In the subgroup analysis of HTG patients with triglycerides ≥ 200 mg/dL, bezafibrate (OR: 0.56; 95% CI 0.33–0.94), EPA (OR: 0.72; 95% CI 0.62–0.82), and pravastatin (OR: 1.33; 95% CI 1.01–1.75) significantly reduced the MACE risk. Conclusions Simvastatin had a clear advantage in reducing the risk of MACE in the entire HTG population analyzed in this meta-analysis. EPA, but not omega-3 fatty acid, was considered an effective HTG intervention. Among fibrates, gemfibrozil was most effective, though bezafibrate may significantly reduce the risk of MACE in populations with triglyceride levels of 200–300 mg/dL. The Korean fir (Abies koreana Wilson) is native to the higher mountains of South Korea, including the upper part of the Mt. Hallasan National Park, which is designated as the Biosphere Reserve of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. This species is considered as endangered and climate-sensitive bioindicator. We collected a species of Anurophorus (Collembola) from withered and rolled leaves of Korean fir, which is distributing at >1,300 m in altitude on Mt. Hallasan. There are 6 species of this genus in the Korean Peninsula, except the collected species (designated as Anurophorus sp.) with clear differences among them. Anurophorus sp. is most similar to A. laricis Nicolet in the general pattern of body chaetotaxy but was characterized by the number of knobbed hairs on tibiotarsi of all legs. Partial DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene were used as DNA barcodes to distinguish the species and to verify its usefulness. It shows clear difference in genetic distance between studied other Anurophorus spp. The result indicates that the COI barcodes is a useful tool for species discrimination of Anurophorus, and Anurophorus sp. studied here is likely to be new to science.

Background: Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a rare malignancy that accounts for 3% of all gastrointestinal tumors. We evaluated the clinical characteristics, outcomes, and prognostic factors of primary SBAs. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological features and clinical outcomes of 300 patients with SBA from three institutions in China between January 2003 and July 2020. Overall survival (OS) was analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method and it was statistically compared using the log-rank test. Single-variable and multivariate analyses were used to identify the significant correlates of OS. Results: The primary tumor was on the duodenal papilla in 156 patients (52%), in the duodenum in 60 patients (20%), and in the jejunum–ileum in 84 patients (28%). The median OS of the entire cohort was 32.5 months (range, 0-213 months), with a 1-year OS rate of 78.0%. Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) is a physiological pacing technique that captures the left bundle branch (LBB) directly, causing the left ventricle (LV) to be excited earlier than the right ventricle (RV), resulting in a “iatrogenic” right bundle branch block (RBBB) pacing pattern. Several studies have recently shown that permanent LBBP can completely or partially narrow the wide QRS duration of the intrinsic RBBB in most patients with bradycardia, although the mechanisms by which this occurs has not been thoroughly investigated. This article presents a review of the LBBP in patients with intrinsic RBBB mentioned in current case reports and clinical studies, discussing the technique, possible mechanisms, future clinical explorations, and the feasibility of eliminating the interventricular dyssynchronization accompanied with LBBP.

Abstract To increase expression levels of the PCV2 Cap(d41) protein, novel baculovirus surface display vectors with multiple expression cassettes were constructed to create recombinant baculoviruses BacSC-Cap(d41), BacDD-2Cap(d41), BacDD-3Cap(d41), and BacDD-4Cap(d41). Our results reveal that the recombinant baculovirus BacDD-4Cap(d41) was able to express the highest levels of Cap(d41) protein. Optimum conditions for expressing the PCV2 Cap(d41) protein were determined, and our results show that 107 of Sf-9 infected with the recombinant baculovirus BacDD-4Cap(d41) at an MOI of 5 for 3 days showed the highest level of protein expression. Mice immunized with the 4Cap(d41) vaccine which was prepared from the recombinant baculovirus-infected cells (107) elicited higher ELISA titers compared to the Cap (d41) vaccine. The 4Cap(d41) vaccine could elicit anti-PCV2 neutralizing antibodies and IFN-γ in mice, as confirmed by virus neutralization test and IFN-γ ELISA. Moreover, the swine lymphocyte proliferative responses indicated that the 4Cap(d41) vaccine was able to induce a clear cellular immune response. Flow cytometry analysis showed that the percentage of CD4+ T cells and CD4+/CD8+ ratio was increased significantly in SPF pigs immunized with the 4Cap(d41) vaccine. Importantly, the 4Cap(d41) vaccine induced an IFN-γ response, further confirming that its effect is through cellular immunity in SPF pigs. An in vivo challenge study revealed that the 4Cap(d41) and the commercial vaccine groups significantly reduce the viral load of vaccinated pigs as compared with the CE negative control group. Taken together, we have successfully developed a 4Cap(d41) vaccine that may be a potential subunit vaccine for preventing the disease associated with PCV2 infections.

Malignant melanoma is a kind of tumor produced by human melanocytes. It has a high degree of malignancy, early metastasis and high mortality. Most melanomas are caused by malignant skin nevus and can also be seen in the digestive tract such as rectum and anus. Primary malignant melanoma of pleura is rare, rarely seen in case reports. This paper reports the clinical data of a case of malignant melanoma with cough, expectoration and pleural effusion as the first symptoms diagnosed by thoracoscopy combined with pathology in Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, and analyzes and summarizes the literature data.

Abstract Background Particulate matter (PM) can cause various negative acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system, including the upper airways. Curcumin has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects; therefore, we investigated the effects of curcumin on nasal fibroblasts exposed to urban PM (UPM). Methods Samples of inferior turbinate tissue were obtained from six patients. Flow cytometry was used to assess the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) following the treatment of nasal fibroblasts with UPM and/or curcumin. We evaluated the effects of UPM and/or curcumin on the expression of phosphorylated ERK, Nrf2, HO-1, and SOD2 in fibroblasts by Western blotting. Results When UPM was applied to nasal fibroblasts, ROS production was significantly increased in a dose-dependent manner. UPM-exposed fibroblasts caused the activation of ERK to increase HO-1 expression and decrease SOD2 expression. Treatment with curcumin reduced the UPM-mediated increase in ROS; this decrease in ROS occurred in a dose-dependent manner. The UPM-induced activation of ERK was inhibited by curcumin. Nrf2 production was also promoted to increase the expression of HO-1 and SOD2 by curcumin. Conclusion Curcumin reduced ROS production caused by UPM in human nasal fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting that curcumin has anti-oxidative effects and may be useful in the treatment of nasal diseases caused by UPM, such as allergic and chronic rhinitis.

Background: The Brugada Electrocardiographic Indices Registry is a comprehensive data registry composed of patients with Brugada patterns on the electrocardiogram (ECG). The aim is to test the hypotheses that (i) ECG indices combining both depolarization and repolarization abnormalities can better predict spontaneous ventricular arrhythmias than existing ECG markers in Brugada syndrome and (ii) that serial ECG measurements will provide additional information for risk stratification, especially in asymptomatic patients. Methods: Patients with both Brugada pattern ECGs and Brugada syndrome are eligible for inclusion in this registry. Baseline characteristics and ECG variables reflecting depolarization and repolarization will be determined. The primary outcome is spontaneous ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation or sudden cardiac death. Secondary outcomes are inducible ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation and syncope. Results: As of November 15, 2019, 39 investigators from 32 cities in 18 countries had joined this registry. As of December 15, 2019, 1383 cases had been enrolled. Conclusions: The Brugada Electrocardiographic Indices Registry will evaluate the disease life course, risk factors, and prognosis in a large series of Brugada patients. It will therefore provide insights for improving risk stratification.
