Scars are among the most prevalent referral cases of dermatology clinics, including atrophic, hypertrophic, or keloidal scars. Approach to scar usually needs a holistic trend, attention to individualized characteristics, and combination therapy. Scars usually need multiple sessions of therapy and the use of combination therapeutic approaches to reach the most acceptable outcomes by safe modalities. Studies on scars are always one of the most important fields of research in medicine, especially in dermatology. For writing this review study, we searched all the databases to find the most relevant and the newest studies related to our topic, because based on expert opinion, this topic may be really practical and interesting for dermatologists and all physicians of various specialties or subspecialties who manage and treat various kinds of scars, including hypertrophic scars and keloids. Based on our results, we concluded that different procedures, which basically use needling, lasers, especially pulsed dye laser (PDL) and carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, and MesoBotox (micro-injection of botulinum toxin), are really promising therapeutic options for hypertrophic and keloidal scars and a combination of these therapies results in more efficacy and lesser side effects in the field of scar management.

BackgroundEvidence, albeit with conflicting results, has suggested that cardiometabolic risk factors, including obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), dyslipidemia, and hypertension, are highly associated with changes in metabolic signature, especially plasma amino acids and acylcarnitines levels. Here, we aimed to evaluate the association of circulating levels of amino acids and acylcarnitines with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components in Iranian adults.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was performed on 1192 participants from the large–scale cross-sectional study of Surveillance of Risk Factors of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Iran (STEP 2016). The circulating levels of amino acids and acylcarnitines were measured using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) in individuals with MetS (n=529) and without MetS (n=663).ResultsThe higher plasma levels of branched-chain amino acids (Val, Leu), aromatic amino acids (Phe, Tyr), Pro, Ala, Glu, and the ratio of Asp to Asn were significantly associated with MetS, whereas lower circulating levels of Gly, Ser, His, Asn, and citrulline were significantly associated with MetS. As for plasma levels of free carnitine and acylcarnitines, higher levels of short-chain acylcarnitines (C2, C3, C4DC), free carnitine (C0), and long-chain acylcarnitines (C16, C18OH) were significantly associated with MetS. Abstract Background Cancer is a major public health problem and comorbidity associated with COVID‐19 infection. According to previous studies, a higher mortality rate of COVID‐19 in cancer patients has been reported. Aims This study was undertaken to determine associated risk factors and epidemiological characteristics of hospitalized COVID‐19 patients with cancer using a nationwide COVID‐19 hospital data registry in Iran for the first time. Methods In this retrospective study, we used a national data registry of hospitalized patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) symptoms and patients with confirmed positive COVID‐19 PCR between 18 February 2020 and 18 November 2020. The patients were classified into two groups patients with/without malignancy. Logistic regression model was utilized to analyze demographic factors, clinical features, comorbidities, and their associations with the disease outcomes. Results In this study, 11 068 and 645 186 in‐patients with SARS symptoms with and without malignancy were included, respectively. About 1.11% of our RT‐PCR‐positive patients had cancer. In patients with malignancy and COVID‐19, older ages than 60 (OR: 1.88, 95% CI: 1.29–2.74, p‐value: .001), male gender (OR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.16–1.77, p‐value: .001), concomitant chronic pulmonary diseases (CPD) (OR: 1.75, 95% CI: 1.14–2.68, p‐value: .009), and presence of dyspnea (OR; 2.00, 95% CI: 1.60–2.48, p‐value:

Background and purpose: Misuse of antibiotics diminishes microbial balance of the body which has led to emergence of new diseases. In this research, we studied the effect of essential oils of Zingiber officinale, Cinnamomum verum, Trachyspermum ammi, and Carum carvi on intestinal microorganisms’ effect in dysbiosis in vitro. Materials and methods: Essential oils were prepared by indirect steam distillation. Pure and lyophilized microorganisms were purchased from Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST). After the culture media was preapered the wells were created over the agar plates and antimicrobial activity was defined by measuring the inhibition zone diameter after 24 hours. Antibacterial effects of the essential oils were studied by well assay methods, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Results were interpreted using CLSI standards. Results: Cinnamomum verum had the highest inhibitory effect on all pathogens. Trachyspermum ammi essential oils had moderate inhibitory effect on all pathogens except shigella Flexneri. The essential oils of Cuminum cyminum and Carum carvi had similar inhibitory effects. Ginger essential oil showed no inhibitory effect on any of the pathogens. Conclusion: The highest inhibitory effect on pathogens was seen in Trachyspermum ammi essential oil, while it had the least inhibitory effect on beneficial microorganisms. Cinnamomum verum essence, with very good inhibitory effect on pathogens and inhibition of some useful microorganisms, can be promising to make effective drug by modulating the activity of pathogens effective in dysbiosis of the clone.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to "design a model for evaluating the responsiveness of Iranian university library services". Methodology: In this research, a qualitative model for evaluating the responsiveness of library services in the university libraries of the country was developed using a qualitative method. The study population consisted of 15 university library managers and librarianship experts who were selected by snowball method. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data in this study.Findings: according to the weight obtained in the coding stages, user satisfaction indicators, employee information literacy, use of service innovations, application of technology, service delivery as an underlying process, access to information, holding training courses In line with the goals and continuous and regular assessment of service quality, they were able to gain the most weight. In order to design the relevant model, 9 components were identified, which are 1- Leadership 2- Policy 3- Employee Outcomes 4- User Outcomes 5- Employees 6- Processes 7- Community Outcomes 8- Key Performance Outcomes and 9- Partnerships and Resources Conclution: According to the designed model, it seems that the components of leadership, policy and strategy, as well as processes will affect employees, partnerships and resources, and thus affect the results of employees and users. The results of the model also show that the results of employees and users affect the results of the community and ultimately the key results of performance. This model is useful for comparing the responsive quality of a library service with other academic libraries.

Abstract Mucormycosis is an opportunistic infection that has become a serious concern as a result of the immunosuppressive drugs used during COVID‐19. In this report, we describe two cases of rhino‐orbital‐cerebral mucormycosis with neurological presentation and ophthalmologic problems accompanied by a history of COVID‐19 and diabetes.

Non-functioning pituitary adenoma (NFPA) is a benign tumor arising from the adenohypophyseal cells. They can be associated with symptoms arising from mass effect. Although these tumors are regarded to be benign tumors, they are associated with increased comorbidity and mortality. Several studies have indicated abnormal expression of genes in these tumors. In the current study, we have used existing methods to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) including DE long non-coding RNAs (DElncRNAs) and DE microRNAs (DEmiRNAs) in NFPAs compared with normal samples. Then, we have assessed the relation between these genes and important signaling pathways. Our analyses led to identification of 3131 DEGs, including 189 downregulated DEGs (such as RPS4Y1 and DDX3Y) and 2898 upregulated DEGs (such as ASB3 and DRD4), and 44 DElncRNAs, including 8 downregulated DElncRNAs (such as NUTM2B-AS1 and MALAT1) and 36 upregulated DElncRNAs (such as BCAR4 and SRD5A3-AS1). GnRH signaling pathway, Tight junction, Gap junction, Melanogenesis, DNA replication, Nucleotide excision repair, Mismatch repair and N-Glycan biosynthesis have been among dysregulated pathways in NFPAs. Taken together, our study has revealed differential expression of several genes and signaling pathways in this type of tumors.

Background: It is believed that pituitary carcinoma is a rare disorder and arise from the transformation of benign invasive macroadenomas, and the process of this transformation takes place slowly. Case Presentation: A 51-year-old man presented with the clinical features of Cushing syndrome and walking impairment who was diagnosed with metastatic corticotroph pituitary carcinoma to the spine region, 6 years after the initial resection of a primary invasive pituitary adenoma. He made a visit to neurosurgery and endocrinology clinic with the chief complaint of weight gain, facial and extremities swelling, paresthesia, weakness, motion and speaking impairments, and HTN which all appeared through the last 1 year; hormonal laboratory tests showed urine free cortisol (UFC) 197.8 and 367. 30 ug/24hrs (36-137), cortisol 8 am after 1 mg overnight dexamethasone test 375 ng/mL (50-250) and ACTH 59 pg/mL. MRI study revealed a mass in the brainstem with the compression effect on spinal region, pituitary imagine does not differ from the last MRI. He underwent a neurosurgery for spinal mass resection, which was successful and the total mass was resected. After surgery, the patientchr('39')s condition became better. Conclusion: Pituitary carcinoma is a rare entity impossible to recognize as a primary tumor because its diagnosis by definition requires the presence of metastasis. Clinical awareness of the rare possibility for aggressive adenomas will progress, to metastasize is essential to appropriately monitor patients for possible early detection and treatment of pituitary carcinoma.

Background: Colonic transit (CT) measured by validated scintigraphy using 111In‐labeled activated charcoal particles is summarized using geometric center (GC) of isotopic distribution in four colonic regions and stool at 24 and 48 h. Diagnosis of rapid CT is currently based on GC24 ≥4.4 in females and >4.7 in males, which lack sensitivity. Our aim was to evaluate, in patients with chronic diarrhea with normal CT by GC24 and GC48, the diagnostic utility of CT change (∆GC) relative to sex‐matched normal values. Methods: We evaluated two adult patient cohorts: 701 clinical patients (1994–2023) with chronic diarrhea and 76 research participants with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (N = 63) or bile acid diarrhea (BAD, N = 13). Results of ∆GC were compared to 220 healthy controls' 95th percentiles (%ile) (≥2.0 females and ≥2.2 males). In the research cohort, we also analyzed (Spearman correlation) colonic ∆GC with ascending colon emptying T1/2 (AC T1/2), average stool frequency and consistency based on a daily diary, total fecal bile acid (BA) concentration, and % primary BA in a single stool sample. Key Results: Among 701 clinical patients with normal GC24, 160 (22.3%) had rapid CT based on ∆GC 95th %ile in health. Among 76 research participants, an additional 20.6% IBS‐D and 23% BAD had rapid CT ∆GC. Younger age and absence of diabetes mellitus were predictive of rapid ∆GC. ∆GC significantly correlated with AC T1/2 and with fecal BA. Conclusions & Inferences: ∆GC identified an additional 21%–23% patients with rapid colonic transit among patients with diarrhea and normal GC24. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThis paper describes the synthesis and in vitro biological evaluation of new compounds designated as 5(a-h) and 8(a-f). These compounds were synthesized by the reaction of thiazole derivative (3) or thiadiazole derivative (7) with urea and various aromatic aldehydes 4(a-h) in ethanol. The structures of the synthesized compounds were checked by IR,1H,13C NMR, and Mass spectroscopy. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the compounds were evaluated against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative), Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive), and Candida albicans (fungus) using agar well diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration methods. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds against HT-29 and A-549 cancer cell lines were assessed in vitro by the MTT method. Our studies showed compounds 8c and 8f to have the most expressed antibacterial activity against S. aureus, while compounds 8c and 8d were the most potent against E. coli. Compounds 5h and 8e showed the highest antifungal activity against C. albicans, and compound 5f showed the most potent activity against the tested cancer cell lines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The extant literature and anecdotal evidence suggest that blue-collar workers who are openly queer (an inclusive term for sexual and gender minorities) are among the most marginalized in the labour market. This article reports the results of a correspondence audit of hiring discrimination in entry-level positions in the Canadian blue-collar sector. Creating four fictitious job candidates with welding skills, 2000 applications were sent to openings across Canada. Applications were identical except for gender-specific first names and volunteer activities, which were designed to signal some applicants as queer and others as straight and cisgender. The straight cisgender male received the highest number of callbacks; almost twice as many as the queer male, who was the least favoured among the four candidates. There was no statistically significant difference in callback rates between the two female applicants by queer status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Today, tendency towards the use of information technology and information systems among the social networks users is increasing. One of the most important of these technologies is social networks. Users’ trust on these networks, impacts on their intention to use this type of technology. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of electronic trust on the tendency to use the WhatsApp network among the users of this network in Tehran.Methodology: The present research method is applied, descriptive-survey in terms of data collection method, correlation between variables and cross-sectional research. The statistical sample for unlimited population according to Morgan table includes 384 WhatsApp’s users in Tehran. Findings: Findings show that the dimensions of electronic trust, including perceived information quality, security and privacy impact on the tendency to use WhatsApp network and among them, the security perceived by networks users is the most important and privacy is the least important.

A number of 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives (9a–d, 10a–d and 11a–d) were designed and synthesized by the reaction of 1,3,4-oxadiazole-5-thiones and 1,2,4-triazole-5-thiones to 2,6-dibromomethyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-4-(3- -nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine. The synthesized compounds were characterized using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectral data, ESI-MS and elemental analysis. The cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated in human breast cancer (MCF-7) cells based on the results of MTT assay. The results indicated that compound diethyl 4-(3-nitrophenyl)-2,6-bis[((5-(3-nitrophenyl)- 1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)thio)methyl]-1,4-dihydro pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate (9b) with (IC50 = 23±2.32 μM) was the most potent derivative against MCF-7 cells. Based on the results, the use of oxadiazole moiety in the C2 and C6 positions of 1,4-dihydropyridine ring system enhanced the cytotoxic potential of these derivatives. Therefore, some of the oxadiazole-substituted 1,4-DHPs may facilitate further modifications which result in the discovery of potent cytotoxic agents.

Abstract Background Magnetic nanocomposites with a core–shell nanostructure have huge applications in different sciences especially in the release of the drugs, because of their exclusive physical and chemical properties. In this research, magnetic@layered double hydroxide multicore@shell nanostructure was synthesized by the facile experiment and is used as novel drug nanocarrier. Methods Magnetic nanospheres were synthesized by a facile one-step solvothermal route, and then, layered double hydroxide nanoflakes were prepared on the magnetic nanospheres by coprecipitation experiment. The synthesized nanostructures were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, VSM, and TEM, respectively. After intercalation with Ibuprofen and Diclofenac as anti-inflammatory drugs and using exchange anion experiment, the basal spacing of synthesized layered double hydroxides was compared with brucite nanosheets from 0.48 nm to 2.62 nm and 2.22 nm, respectively. Results The results indicated that Ibuprofen and Diclofenac were successfully intercalated into the interlay space of LDHs via bridging bidentate interaction. In addition, in-vitro drug release experiments in pH 7.4, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) showed constant release profiles with Ibuprofen and Diclofenac as model drugs with different lipophilicity, water solubility, size, and steric effect. Conclusion The Fe3O4@LDH-ibuprofen and Fe3O4@LDH-diclofenac had the advantage of the strong interaction between the carboxyl groups with higher trivalent cations by bridging bidentate, clarity, and high thermal stability. It is confirmed that Fe3O4@LDH multicore-shell nanostructure may have potential application for constant drug delivery.

Alpha-amylase reputes for starch modification by breaking of 1-4 glycosidic bands and is widely applied in different industrial sectors. Microorganisms express unique alpha-amylases with thermostable and halotolerant characteristics dependent on the microorganism’s intrinsic features. Likewise, genetic engineering methods are applied to produce enzymes with higher stability in contrast to wild types. As there are widespread application of α-amylase in industry, optimization methods like RSM are used to improve the production of the enzyme ex vivo. This study aimed to review the latest researches on the production improvement and stability of α-amylase.

Background: Recently, resistant pathogenic microorganisms have become increasingly wide spread. The search for new natural antibiotics is a viable solution to this problem. For this aim we investigated the antimicrobial ability of Tabrizicola aquatica, the novel bacterium isolated from Qurugol Lake located nearby Tabriz city, Iran. Methods: The antimicrobial properties of Tabrizacola aquatica was investigated using well diffusion test. Tabtizicola aquatica was incubated at 40℃ in shaking incubator at 150 rpm for 14 days. The culture was centrifuged to obtain cell free supernatant, which was sterilized using 0.2 μm filter paper and lyophilized. Microorganisms were lawn and then wells were prepared over the agar plates. About 100 ml of the diluted lyophilized supernatant was added to the wells. The plates then were incubated at 37℃. After 48 hours, antimicrobial activity was defined by measuring the inhibition zone diameter.Results: The bacterial filtrates had considerable antagonistic effect against Escherichia coli, Rhizobium radiobacter, Pseudomonas syringae, Erwinia amylovora, Botrytis cinerea, Neurospora crassa and Fusarium oxysporum. However, the filtrates did not show any inhibitory action on the Aspergillus flavus and Klebsiella pneumonia. The supernatant decreased the growth zone on Streptococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella flexneri, Xanthomonas camoestris and Bassilus cereos. The result of MIC against pathogens was found for Neurospora crassa in the 50 µg/mL.Conclusion: The results, suggested that Tabrizicola aquatica and similar bacteria can be helpful to control freshwater natural water sources from pathogenic microorganism. Moreover, microbial natural products are still the most promising source of new antibiotics. Our results point out a scope for characterization of the metabolites and could be a candidate in the identification of novel antibiotics.
