Language competences are based upon the accumulation, assimilation and utilization of the learnt language, whose acquisition depends upon the practice amount and practice opportunities of the language, so students are supposed to plunge into the activities of language practice actively and habitually by acting on their initiative. I think strengthening the guidance on reading strategies is a satisfactory solution to the pressing question of providing Ss with adequate self-experience opportunities, because reading can provide Ss with adequate self-experience and practice opportunities for the comprehensive acquisitions of language skills due to reading's intrinsic characteristic.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase isoform 1 (ALDH1) has been proved useful for the identification of cancer stem cells. However, our knowledge of the expression and activity of ALDH1 in common epithelial cancers and their corresponding normal tissues is still largely absent. Therefore, we characterized ALDH1 expression in 24 types of normal tissues and a large collection of epithelial tumor specimens (six cancer types, n = 792) by immunohistochemical staining. Using the ALDEFUOR assay, ALDH1 activity was also examined in 16 primary tumor specimens and 43 established epithelial cancer cell lines. In addition, an ovarian cancer transgenic mouse model and 7 murine ovarian cancer cell lines were analyzed. We found that the expression levels and patterns of ALDH1 in epithelial cancers are remarkably distinct, and they correlate with their corresponding normal tissues. ALDH1 protein expression levels are positively correlated with ALDH1 enzymatic activity measured by ALDEFLUOR assay. Long-term in vitro culture doesn't significantly affect ALDH1 activity in epithelial tumor cells. Consistent with research on other cancers, we found that high ALDH1 expression is significantly associated with poor clinical outcomes in serous ovarian cancer patients (n = 439, p = 0.0036). Finally, ALDH(br) tumor cells exhibit cancer stem cell properties and are resistant to chemotherapy. As a novel cancer stem cell marker, ALDH1 can be used for tumors whose corresponding normal tissues express ALDH1 in relatively restricted or limited levels such as breast, lung, ovarian or colon cancer.

According to the polynomial recursion formalism, the modified Jaulent–Miodek hierarchy is derived in a standard way. The first two nontrivial members in the modified Jaulent–Miodek hierarchy are listed correspondingly. Based on the squared eigenfunctions, an algebraic curve κ n and a Riemann surface S with arithmetic genus n are introduced, then the Dubrovin-type equations are obtained naturally. With the help of the conservation laws, the Baker–Akhiezer functions are defined. Finally, the asymptotic properties of the Baker–Akhiezer functions are analyzed, from which the algebro-geometric solutions of the modified Jaulent–Miodek hierarchy are constructed in term of the Riemann theta function. The objective of this study was to determine whether acupuncture point sensitivity to palpation at LI-18 and PC-1 acupoints in horses was correlated with a difference in surface temperature between front hooves measured by highresolution infrared camera. Client-owned horses (n=41) presenting for traditional Chinese veterinary medicine (TCVM) exams for a variety of medical issues were recruited for convenience sampling. After 20 minutes of stall rest, bilateral front hoof thermography was performed in a designated stall. This was followed by bilateral acupoint scan (APS), where the outcome was considered positive (APS+) when an acupoint palpation, performed with an acupuncture needle guide tube (28 gauge, 2 inch), elicited a flinch response, or negative (APS-) when the palpation equaled no reaction. Based on the APS results, horses were grouped into 1) bilateral APS- outcome (bi-APS-) or 2) unilateral APS+ outcome (uni-APS+). Within each of the 2 groups mean temperature difference between front hoof surfaces was compared. The results showed that the bi-APS- group thermographic readings were not significantly different (p=0.551) between front hooves; however, the hoof temperatures were significantly different from each other in the uni-APS+ group (p=0.039). Study findings suggest that a horse's APS sensitivity at LI-18 and/or PC-1 are correlated with thermographic imaging temperature of the front hooves. Further investigation and confirmation of these findings is needed along with further studies associating this temperature difference with hoof disorders for diagnostic investigations.
