Abstract: We perform an analysis of the diffuse low-frequency Galactic components inthe Southern part of the Gould Belt system (130^\circ\leq l\leq 230^\circ and-50^\circ\leq b\leq -10^\circ). Strong ultra-violet (UV) flux coming from theGould Belt super-association is responsible for bright diffuse foregrounds thatwe observe from our position inside the system and that can help us improve ourknowledge of the Galactic emission. Free-free emission and anomalous microwaveemission (AME) are the dominant components at low frequencies (\nu < 40 GHz),while synchrotron emission is very smooth and faint. We separate diffusefree-free emission and AME from synchrotron emission and thermal dust emissionby using Planck data, complemented by ancillary data, using the "CorrelatedComponent Analysis" (CCA) component separation method and we compare with theresults of cross-correlation of foreground templates with the frequency maps.We estimate the electron temperature T_e from H$\alpha$ and free-free emissionusing two methods (temperature-temperature plot and cross-correlation) and weobtain T_e ranging from 3100 to 5200 K, for an effective fraction of absorbingdust along the line of sight of 30% (f_d=0.3). We estimate the frequencyspectrum of the diffuse AME and we recover a peak frequency (in flux densityunits) of 25.5 \pm 1.5 GHz. We verify the reliability of this result withrealistic simulations that include the presence of biases in the spectral modelfor the AME and in the free-free template. By combining physical models forvibrational and rotational dust emission and adding the constraints from thethermal dust spectrum from Planck and IRAS we are able to get a gooddescription of the frequency spectrum of the AME for plausible values of thelocal density and radiation field.

Abstract: The six parameters of the standard ΛCDM model have best-fit values derived from the Planck temperature power spectrum that are shifted somewhat from the best-fit values derived from WMAP data. These shifts are driven by features in the Planck temperature power spectrum at angular scales that had never before been measured to cosmic-variance level precision. We have investigated these shifts to determine whether they are within the range of expectation and to understand their origin in the data. Taking our parameter set to be the optical depth of the reionized intergalactic medium, the baryon density ωb, the matter density ωm, the angular size of the sound horizon the spectral index of the primordial power spectrum, ns, and Ase-2τ (where As is the amplitude of the primordial power spectrum), we have examined the change in best-fit values between a WMAP-like large angular-scale data set (with multipole moment < 800 in the Planck temperature power spectrum) and an all angular-scale data set (< 2500Planck temperature power spectrum), each with a prior on τ of 0.07 ± 0.02. We find that the shifts, in units of the 1σ expected dispersion for each parameter, are {value of 8.0. We find that this χ2 value is exceeded in 15% of our simulated data sets, and that a parameter deviates by more than 2.2σ in 9% of simulated data sets, meaning that the shifts are not unusually large. Comparing < 800 instead to > 800, or splitting at a different multipole, yields similar results. We examined the < 800 model residuals in the > 800 power spectrum data and find that the features there that drive these shifts are a set of oscillations across a broad range of angular scales. Although they partly appear similar to the effects of enhanced gravitational lensing, the shifts in ΛCDM parameters that arise in response to these features correspond to model spectrum changes that are predominantly due to non-lensing effects; the only exception is, which, at fixed Ase-2τ, affects the > 800 temperature power spectrum solely through the associated change in As and the impact of that on the lensing potential power spectrum. We also ask, "what is it about the power spectrum at < 800 that leads to somewhat different best-fit parameters than come from the full range?" We find that if we discard the data at < 30, where there is a roughly 2σ downward fluctuation in power relative to the model that best fits the full range, the < 800 best-fit parameters shift significantly towards the < 2500 best-fit parameters. In contrast, including < 30, this previously noted "low-deficit" drives ns up and impacts parameters correlated with ns, such as ωm and H0. As expected, the < 30 data have a much greater impact on the < 800 best fit than on the < 2500 best fit. So although the shifts are not very significant, we find that they can be understood through the combined effects of an oscillatory-like set of high-residuals and the deficit in low-power, excursions consistent with sample variance that happen to map onto changes in cosmological parameters. Finally, we examine agreement between PlanckTT data and two other CMB data sets, namely the Planck lensing reconstruction and the TT power spectrum measured by the South Pole Telescope, again finding a lack of convincing evidence of any significant deviations in parameters, suggesting that current CMB data sets give an internally consistent picture of the ΛCDM model.

Abstract: We use Planck data to detect the cross-correlation between the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect and the infrared emission from the galaxies that make up the the cosmic infrared background (CIB). We first perform a stacking analysis towards Planck-confirmed galaxy clusters. We detect infrared emission produced by dusty galaxies inside these clusters and demonstrate that the infrared emission is about 50% more extended than the tSZ effect. Modelling the emission with a Navarro--Frenk--White profile, we find that the radial profile concentration parameter is $c_{500} = 1.00^{+0.18}_{-0.15}$. This indicates that infrared galaxies in the outskirts of clusters have higher infrared flux than cluster-core galaxies. We also study the cross-correlation between tSZ and CIB anisotropies, following three alternative approaches based on power spectrum analyses: (i) using a catalogue of confirmed clusters detected in Planck data; (ii) using an all-sky tSZ map built from Planck frequency maps; and (iii) using cross-spectra between Planck frequency maps. With the three different methods, we detect the tSZ-CIB cross-power spectrum at significance levels of (i) 6 $\sigma$, (ii) 3 $\sigma$, and (iii) 4 $\sigma$. We model the tSZ-CIB cross-correlation signature and compare predictions with the measurements. The amplitude of the cross-correlation relative to the fiducial model is $A_{\rm tSZ-CIB}= 1.2\pm0.3$. This result is consistent with predictions for the tSZ-CIB cross-correlation assuming the best-fit cosmological model from Planck 2015 results along with the tSZ and CIB scaling relations.

Abstract: The European Space Agency's Planck satellite, which is dedicated to studying the early Universe and its subsequent evolution, was launched on 14 May 2009. It scanned the microwave and submillimetre sky continuously between 12 August 2009 and 23 October 2013. In February 2015, ESA and the Planck Collaboration released the second set of cosmology products based ondata from the entire Planck mission, including both temperature and polarization, along with a set of scientific and technical papers and a web-based explanatory supplement. This paper gives an overview of the main characteristics of the data and the data products in the release, as well as the associated cosmological and astrophysical science results and papers. The data products include maps of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect, diffuse foregrounds in temperature and polarization, catalogues of compact Galactic and extragalactic sources (including separate catalogues of Sunyaev-Zeldovich clusters and Galactic cold clumps), and extensive simulations of signals and noise used in assessing uncertainties and the performance of the analysis methods. The likelihood code used to assess cosmological models against the Planck data is described, along with a CMB lensing likelihood. Scientific results include cosmological parameters derived from CMB power spectra, gravitational lensing, and cluster counts, as well as constraints on inflation, non-Gaussianity, primordial magnetic fields, dark energy, and modified gravity, and new results on low-frequency Galactic foregrounds.

Abstract: The Planck mission, thanks to its large frequency range and all-sky coverage, has a unique potential for systematically detecting the brightest, and rarest, submillimetre sources on the sky, including distant objects in the high-redshift Universe traced by their dust emission. A novel method, based on a component-separation procedure using a combination of Planck and IRAS data, has been applied to select the most luminous cold submm sources with spectral energy distributions peaking between 353 and 857GHz at 5' resolution. A total of 2151 Planck high-z source candidates (the PHZ) have been detected in the cleanest 26% of the sky, with flux density at 545GHz above 500mJy. Embedded in the cosmic infrared background close to the confusion limit, these high-z candidates exhibit colder colours than their surroundings, consistent with redshifts z>2, assuming a dust temperature of 35K and a spectral index of 1.5. First follow-up observations obtained from optical to submm have confirmed that this list consists of two distinct populations. A small fraction (around 3%) of the sources have been identified as strongly gravitationally lensed star-forming galaxies, which are amongst the brightest submm lensed objects (with flux density at 545GHz ranging from 350mJy up to 1Jy) at redshift 2 to 4. However, the vast majority of the PHZ sources appear as overdensities of dusty star-forming galaxies, having colours consistent with z>2, and may be considered as proto-cluster candidates. The PHZ provides an original sample, complementary to the Planck Sunyaev-Zeldovich Catalogue; by extending the population of the virialized massive galaxy clusters to a population of sources at z>1.5, the PHZ may contain the progenitors of today's clusters. Hence the PHZ opens a new window on the study of the early ages of structure formation, and the understanding of the intensively star-forming phase at high-z.

109. Infrared-correlated 31-GHz radio emission from Orion East

Abstract: Lynds dark cloud LDN1622 represents one of the best examples of anomalous dust emission, possibly originating from small spinning dust grains. We present Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) 31-GHz data of LDN1621, a diffuse dark cloud to the north of LDN1622 in a region known as Orion East. A broken ring-like structure with diameter ≈20 arcmin of diffuse emission is detected at 31 GHz, at ≈20-30 mJy beam-1 with an angular resolution of ≈5 arcmin. The ring-like structure is highly correlated with far-infrared (FIR) emission at 12-100 μm with correlation coefficients of r ≈ 0.7-0.8, significant at ~10σ. The FIR-correlated emission at 31 GHz therefore appears to be mostly due to radiation associated with dust. Multifrequency data are used to place constraints on other components of emission that could be contributing to the 31-GHz flux. An analysis of the GB6 survey maps at 4.85 GHz yields a 3σ upper limit on free-free emission of 7.2 mJy beam-1 (30 per cent of the observed flux) at the CBI resolution. The bulk of the 31-GHz flux therefore appears to be mostly due to dust radiation. Aperture photometry, at an angular resolution of 13 arcmin and with an aperture of diameter 30 arcmin, allowed the use of IRAS maps and the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe 5-yr W-band map at 93.5 GHz. A single modified blackbody model was fitted to the data to estimate the contribution from thermal dust, which amounts to~10 per cent at 31 GHz. In this model, an excess of 1.52 ± 0.66 Jy (2.3σ) is seen at 31 GHz. Correlations with the IRAS 100 μm gave a coupling coefficient of 18.1 ± 4.4 μK (MJy sr-1)-1, consistent with the values found for LDN1622. © 2010 The Authors. Journal compilation. © 2010 RAS.

Abstract: The diffuse cm wave IR-correlated signal, the 'anomalous' CMB foreground, is thought to arise in the dust in cirrus clouds. We present Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) cm wave data of two translucent clouds, ζ Oph and LDN 1780 with the aim of characterizing the anomalous emission in the translucent cloud environment. In ζ Oph, the measured brightness at 31GHz is 2.4σ higher than an extrapolation from 5-GHz measurements assuming a free-free spectrum on 8 arcmin scales. The SED of this cloud on angular scales of 1° is dominated by free-free emission in the cm range. In LDN 1780 we detected a 3σ excess in the SED on angular scales of 1° that can be fitted using a spinning dust model. In this cloud, there is a spatial correlation between the CBI data and IR images, which trace dust. The correlation is better with near-IR templates (IRAS 12 and 25μm) than with IRAS 100μm, which suggests a very small grain origin for the emission at 31GHz. We calculated the 31-GHz emissivities in both clouds. They are similar and have intermediate values between that of cirrus clouds and dark clouds. Nevertheless, we found an indication of an inverse relationship between emissivity and column density, which further supports the VSGs origin for the cm emission since the proportion of big relative to small grains is smaller in diffuse clouds. © 2011 The Authors Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society © 2011 RAS.

Abstract: © ESO, 2016. The Virgo cluster is the largest Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) source in the sky, both in terms of angular size and total integrated flux. Planck's wide angular scale and frequency coverage, together with its high sensitivity, enable a detailed study of this big object through the SZ effect. Virgo is well resolved by Planck, showing an elongated structure that correlates well with the morphology observed from X-rays, but extends beyond the observed X-ray signal. We find good agreement between the SZ signal (or Compton parameter, yc) observed by Planck and the expected signal inferred from X-ray observations and simple analytical models. Owing to its proximity to us, the gas beyond the virial radius in Virgo can be studied with unprecedented sensitivity by integrating the SZ signal over tens of square degrees. We study the signal in the outskirts of Virgo and compare it with analytical models and a constrained simulation of the environment of Virgo. Planck data suggest that significant amounts of low-density plasma surround Virgo, out to twice the virial radius. We find the SZ signal in the outskirts of Virgo to be consistent with a simple model that extrapolates the inferred pressure at lower radii, while assuming that the temperature stays in the keV range beyond the virial radius. The observed signal is also consistent with simulations and points to a shallow pressure profile in the outskirts of the cluster. This reservoir of gas at large radii can be linked with the hottest phase of the elusivewarm/hot intergalactic medium. Taking the lack of symmetry of Virgo into account, we find that a prolate model is favoured by the combination of SZ and X-ray data, in agreement with predictions. Finally, based on the combination of the same SZ and X-ray data, we constrain the total amount of gas in Virgo. Under the hypothesis that the abundance of baryons in Virgo is representative of the cosmic average, we also infer a distance for Virgo of approximately 18 Mpc, in good agreement with previous estimates.

112. Sexual segregation in a wide-ranging marine predator is a consequence of habitat selection

Abstract: Sexual segregation, common in many species, is usually attributed to intra-specific competition or habitat choice. However, few studies have simultaneously quantified sex-specific foraging behaviour and habitat use. We combined movement, diving, stable isotope and oceanographic data to test whether sexual segregation in northern gannets Morus bassanus results from sex-specific habitat use. Breeding birds foraging in a seasonally stratified shelf sea were tracked over 3 consecutive breeding seasons (2010-2012). Females made longer trips, foraged farther offshore and had lower δ13C values than males. Male and female foraging areas overlapped only slightly. Males foraged more in mixed coastal waters, where net primary production (NPP) was relatively high (>3 mg C m-2 d-1) and sea-surface temperature (SST) was relatively low (15°C) more than females, possibly as a consequence of foraging in productive mixed waters over offshore banks. Females foraged most frequently in stratified offshore waters, of intermediate SST (12-15°C), but exhibited no consistent response to NPP. Sex-specific differences in diving behaviour corresponded with differences in habitat use: males made more long and deep U-shaped dives. Such dives were characteristic of inshore foraging, whereas shorter and shallower V-shaped dives occurred more often in offshore waters. Heavier birds attained greater depths during V-shaped dives, but even when controlling for body mass, females made deeper V-shaped dives than males. Together, these results indicate that sexual segregation in gannets is driven largely by habitat segregation between mixed and stratified waters, which in turn results in sex-specific foraging behaviour and dive depths.

Abstract: We present the Planck Catalogue of Galactic Cold Clumps (PGCC), an all-sky catalogue of Galactic cold clump candidates detected by Planck. This catalogue is the full version of the Early Cold Core (ECC) catalogue, which was made available in 2011 with the Early Release Compact Source Catalogue (ERCSC) and which contained 915 high signal-to-noise sources. It is based on the Planck 48-month mission data that are currently being released to the astronomical community. The PGCC catalogue is an observational catalogue consisting exclusively of Galactic cold sources. The three highest Planck bands (857, 454, and 353 GHz) have been combined with IRAS data at 3 THz to perform a multi-frequency detection of sources colder than their local environment. After rejection of possible extragalactic contaminants, the PGCC catalogue contains 13188 Galactic sources spread across the whole sky, i.e., from the Galactic plane to high latitudes, following the spatial distribution of the main molecular cloud complexes. The median temperature of PGCC sources lies between 13 and 14.5 K, depending on the quality of the flux density measurements, with a temperature ranging from 5.8 to 20 K after removing the sources with the top 1% highest temperature estimates. Using seven independent methods, reliable distance estimates have been obtained for 5574 sources, which allows us to derive their physical properties such as their mass, physical size, mean density, and luminosity.The PGCC sources are located mainly in the solar neighbourhood, but also up to a distance of 10.5 kpc in the direction of the Galactic centre, and range from low-mass cores to large molecular clouds. Because of this diversity and because the PGCC catalogue contains sources in very different environments, the catalogue is useful for investigating the evolution from molecular clouds to cores. Finally, it also includes 54 additional sources located in the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds.

Abstract: Continuum spectra covering centimetre to submillimetre wavelengths are presented for a northern sample of 104 extragalactic radio sources, mainly active galactic nuclei, based on four-epoch Planck data. The nine Planck frequencies, from 30 to 857 GHz, are complemented by a set of simultaneous ground-based radio observations between 1.1 and 37 GHz. The single-survey Planck data confirm that the flattest high-frequency radio spectral indices are close to zero, indicating that the original accelerated electron energy spectrum is much harder than commonly thought, with power-law index around 1.5 instead of the canonical 2.5. The radio spectra peak at high frequencies and exhibit a variety of shapes. For a small set of low-z sources, we find a spectral upturn at high frequencies, indicating the presence of intrinsic cold dust. Variability can generally be approximated by achromatic variations, while sources with clear signatures of evolving shocks appear to be limited to the strongest outbursts.

Abstract: This paper presents the Planck 2013 likelihood, a complete statistical description of the two-point correlation function of the CMB temperature fluctuations that accounts for all known relevant uncertainties, both instrumental and astrophysical in nature. We use this likelihood to derive our best estimate of the CMB angular power spectrum from Planck over three decades in multipole moment, covering 22500. The main source of uncertainty at 1500 is cosmic variance. Uncertainties in small-scale foreground modelling and instrumental noise dominate the error budget at higher s. For < 50, our likelihood exploits all Planck frequency channels from 30 to 353 GHz, separating the cosmological CMB signal from diffuse Galactic foregrounds through a physically motivated Bayesian component separation technique. At 50, we employ a correlated Gaussian likelihood approximation based on a fine-grained set of angular cross-spectra derived from multiple detector combinations between the 100, 143, and 217 GHz frequency channels, marginalising over power spectrum foreground templates. We validate our likelihood through an extensive suite of consistency tests, and assess the impact of residual foreground and instrumental uncertainties on the final cosmological parameters. We find good internal agreement among the high-cross-spectra with residuals below a few K2 at 1000, in agreement with estimated calibration uncertainties. We compare our results with foreground-cleaned CMB maps derived from all Planck frequencies, as well as with cross-spectra derived from the 70 GHz Planck map, and find broad agreement in terms of spectrum residuals and cosmological parameters. We further show that the best-fit CDM cosmology is in excellent agreement with preliminary PlanckEE and TE polarisation spectra. We find that the standard CDM cosmology is well constrained by Planck from the measurements at 1500. Abstract: We have used the Rayner and Best smooth tests of goodness-of-fit to study the Gaussianity of the Very Small Array (VSA) data. These tests are designed to be sensitive to the presence of 'smooth' deviations from a given distribution, and are applied to the data transformed into normalized signal-to-noise eigenmodes. In a previous work, they have been already adapted and applied to simulated observations of interferometric experiments. In this paper, we extend the practical implementation of the method to deal with mosaiced observations, by introducing the Arnoldi algorithm. This method permits us to solve large eigenvalue problems with low computational cost. Out of the 41 published VSA individual pointings dedicated to cosmological [cosmic microwave background (CMB)] observations, 37 are found to be consistent with Gaussianity, whereas four pointings show deviations from Gaussianity. In two of them, these deviations can be explained as residual systematic effects of a few visibility points which, when corrected, have a negligible impact on the angular power spectrum. The non-Gaussianity found in the other two (adjacent) pointings seems to be associated to a local deviation of the power spectrum of these fields with respect to the common power spectrum of the complete data set, at angular scales of the third acoustic peak (ℓ = 700-900). No evidence of residual systematics is found in this case, and unsubtracted point sources are not a plausible explanation either. If those visibilities are removed, the differences of the new power spectrum with respect to the published one only affect three bins. A cosmological analysis based on this new VSA power spectrum alone shows no differences in the parameter constraints with respect to our published results, except for the physical baryon density, which decreases by 10 per cent. Finally, the method has been also used to analyse the VSA observations in the Corona Borealis supercluster region. Our method finds a clear deviation (99.82 per cent) with respect to Gaussianity in the second-order moment of the distribution, and which cannot be explained as systematic effects. A detailed study shows that the non-Gaussianity is produced in scales of ℓ ≈ 500, and that this deviation is intrinsic to the data (in the sense that cannot be explained in terms of a Gaussian field with a different power spectrum). This result is consistent with the Gaussianity studies in the Corona Borealis data presented in Génova-Santos et al. which show a strong decrement that cannot be explained as primordial CMB. © 2006 RAS.

We gratefully acknowledge the IN2P3 Computer Center (http://cc.in2p3.fr) for providing a significant amount of the computing resources and services needed for this work., We present the implications for cosmic inflation of the Planck measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies in both temperature and polarization based on the full Planck survey, which includes more than twice the integration time of the nominal survey used for the 2013 release papers. The Planck full mission temperature data and a first release of polarization data on large angular scales measure the spectral index of curvature perturbations to be ns = 0.968 ± 0.006 and tightly constrain its scale dependence to dns/dln k = −0.003 ± 0.007 when combined with the Planck lensing likelihood. When the Planck high-` polarization data are included, the results are consistent and uncertainties are further reduced. The upper bound on the tensor-to-scalar ratio is r0.002 < 0.11 (95% CL). This upper limit is consistent with the B-mode polarization constraint r < 0.12 (95% CL) obtained from a joint analysis of the BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck data. These results imply that V(φ) ∝ φ 2 and natural inflation are now disfavoured compared to models predicting a smaller tensor-to-scalar ratio, such as R 2 inflation. We search for several physically motivated deviations from a simple power-law spectrum of curvature perturbations, including those motivated by a reconstruction of the inflaton potential not relying on the slow-roll approximation. We find that such models are not preferred, either according to a Bayesian model comparison or according to a frequentist simulation-based analysis. Three independent methods reconstructing the primordial power spectrum consistently recover a featureless and smooth PR(k) over the range of scales 0.008 Mpc−1, Planck (http://www.esa.int/Planck) is a project of the European Space Agency (ESA) with instruments provided by two scientific consortia funded by ESA member states and led by Principal Investigators from France and Italy, telescope reflectors provided through a collaboration between ESA and a scientific consortium led and funded by Denmark, and additional contributions from NASA (USA).

This research used resources of the IN2P3 Computer Center (http://cc.in2p3.fr) as well as of the Planck-HFI DPC infrastructure hosted at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (France) and financially supported by CNES., This paper presents the Planck 2015 likelihoods, statistical descriptions of the 2-point correlation functions of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization fluctuations that account for relevant uncertainties, both instrumental and astrophysical in nature. They are based on the same hybrid approach used for the previous release, i.e., a pixel-based likelihood at low multipoles (` < 30) and a Gaussian approximation to the distribution of cross-power spectra at higher multipoles. The main improvements are the use of more and better processed data and of Planck polarization information, along with more detailed models of foregrounds and instrumental uncertainties. The increased redundancy brought by more than doubling the amount of data analysed enables further consistency checks and enhanced immunity to systematic effects. It also improves the constraining power of Planck, in particular with regard to small-scale foreground properties. Progress in the modelling of foreground emission enables the retention of a larger fraction of the sky to determine the properties of the CMB, which also contributes to the enhanced precision of the spectra. Improvements in data processing and instrumental modelling further reduce uncertainties. Extensive tests establish the robustness and accuracy of the likelihood results, from temperature alone, from polarization alone, and from their combination. For temperature, we also perform a full likelihood analysis of realistic end-to-end simulations of the instrumental response to the sky, which were fed into the actual data processing pipeline; this does not reveal biases from residual low-level instrumental systematics. Even with the increase in precision and robustness, the ΛCDM cosmological model continues to offer a very good fit to the Planck data. The slope of the primordial scalar fluctuations, ns , is confirmed smaller than unity at more than 5σ from Planck alone. We further validate the robustness of the likelihood results against specific extensions to the baseline cosmology, which are particularly sensitive to data at high multipoles. For instance, the effective number of neutrino species remains compatible with the canonical value of 3.046. For this first detailed analysis of Planck polarization spectra, we concentrate at high multipoles on the E modes, leaving the analysis of the weaker B modes to future work. At low multipoles we use temperature maps at all Planck frequencies along with a subset of polarization data. These data take advantage of Planck’s wide frequency coverage to improve the separation of CMB and foreground emission. Within the baseline ΛCDM cosmology this requires τ = 0.078 ± 0.019 for the reionization optical depth, which is significantly lower than estimates without the use of high-frequency data for explicit monitoring of dust emission. At high multipoles we detect residual systematic errors in E polarization, typically at the µK 2 level; we therefore choose to retain temperature information alone for high multipoles as the recommended baseline, in particular for testing non-minimal models. Abstract: Background: The efficacy and safety of upadacitinib in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and inadequate response/intolerance to biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARD-IR) were evaluated through 1 year in the SELECT-AXIS 2 study. Here, we assess 2-year efficacy, safety, and imaging outcomes in SELECT-AXIS 2., Methods: Patients who received continuous upadacitinib, and those who switched from placebo to upadacitinib at week 14, could enter the open-label extension (OLE). Efficacy endpoints included Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) and Axial Spondyloarthritis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) responses, and changes from baseline in measures of disease activity, back pain, function, and quality of life. Radiographic progression was evaluated using the modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spinal Score (mSASSS). As observed (AO) and AO with non-responder imputation (AO-NRI) analyses were used for binary endpoints; AO with mixed-effects model for repeated measures (AO-MMRM) for continuous endpoints; and AO-analysis of covariance for mSASSS. Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) in patients receiving ≥ 1 upadacitinib dose through week 104 are presented as events (E)/100 patient-years (PY). Subgroup analyses were performed by prior tumor necrosis factor/interleukin-17 inhibitor exposure and bDMARD lack of efficacy/intolerance., Results: Of 420 patients who entered the bDMARD-IR AS study, 409 entered the OLE, and 331 (continuous upadacitinib, n = 163; placebo to upadacitinib, n = 168) completed week 104. Improvements in efficacy measures were sustained through the OLE, with similar response rates between the continuous upadacitinib and placebo to upadacitinib groups at week 104. At week 104, 64.9% and 61.7% of patients, respectively, had achieved ASAS 40% response (AO-NRI). Mean changes from baseline were similar between the two groups at week 104 across measures (ASDAS: -2.1 and -2.0; total back pain: -4.9 and -4.6, respectively; AO-MMRM). Over 93.0% of patients showed no radiographic progression (mSASSS mean change from baseline < 2) at week 104. The overall TEAE rate was 165.2 E/100 PY, with low rates of major adverse cardiovascular and venous thromboembolic events (0.3 E/100 PY each)., Conclusions: Upadacitinib efficacy, including very low rates of radiographic progression, was demonstrated through 104 weeks in treatment-refractory patients with active AS. 128. ECHO "Bootcamp": An Innovative Training Model to Onboard Providers in the Care of Gender Diverse Patients.

Abstract: Purpose: Extension for Community Health Outcomes (ECHO) is a model of continuing medical education meant to connect academic medical center-based specialists with community providers to increase capacity in managing complex health conditions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a shortened "bootcamp" ECHO model in increasing participant competence with topics related to transgender and gender diverse (TGD) health care and the impact of "bootcamp" participation on enrollment in an ongoing ECHO series. Methods: An ongoing monthly ECHO series was instituted on topics of TGD health. After 2 years, the team implemented a four-session "bootcamp" for four consecutive weeks during March 2022 to introduce foundational topics for new participants who had joined or were considering joining the ongoing series. Qualitative and quantitative results were collected from self-reported pre-/post-surveys as well as from in-session quizzes. Results: There were 71 participants in the "bootcamp" including health care providers and support staff. Attendees reported a 10.3% increase ( p = 0.02) in self-reported comfort providing care to transgender patients. Pre-/post-knowledge improved in areas of health inequities (50% vs. 74% correct pre/post), surgical requirements (33% vs. 74%), and effects of masculinizing (55% vs. 70%) and feminizing (64% vs. 89%) hormone therapy. Prescribing providers reported a significant change across four areas of practice competency. Among 71 "bootcamp" participants, 15 registered for the ongoing program. Conclusion: Use of a "bootcamp" highlights ways to increase participant comfort and knowledge in providing TGD health care in a shortened timeframe and recruit new participants to an ongoing ECHO curriculum.

Abstract: As the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) population ages, more transfeminine and transmasculine individuals present to clinic to initiate or continue their gender-affirming care at older ages. Currently available guidelines on gender-affirming care are excellent resources for the provision of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), primary care, surgery, and mental health care but are limited in their scope as to whether recommendations require tailoring to older TGD adults. Data that inform guideline-recommended management considerations, while informative and increasingly evidence-based, mainly come from studies of younger TGD populations. Whether results from these studies, and therefore recommendations, can or should be extrapolated to aging TGD adults remains to be determined. Abstract: Psychiatric nosology has at times mirrored cultural mores and societal values, pathologizing behaviors seen at the time to be either immoral or outside the norm. This has been particularly true when it comes to issues related to sexuality and gender. Such pathologizing has resulted in further stigmatization and discrimination in society. Gender incongruence, the experience of an individual whose internal sense of gender is at odds with the sex they were assigned at birth, has long been pathologized. This article will compare the history of the psychiatric depathologizing of homosexuality to the current process of depathologizing gender incongruence.

Abstract: Objective: Reflective capacity is the ability to review and reconstruct the importance, emotional impact, and outcomes of an experience to give it added meaning and context. In medicine, greater reflective capacity is associated with greater empathy and diagnostic accuracy. This project implemented a four-week reflective writing curriculum for third-year medical students during their psychiatric clerkship., Methods: A single class of medical students participated in a pilot reflective writing program during their four-week Psychiatry Care Block. Students were provided with weekly writing prompts, and the reflective capacity of their writing assignments was assessed using the REFLECT rubric., Results: Medical students who participated in the reflective writing course demonstrated a significant increase in Wald Rubric reflective writing scores across the four-week clerkship., Conclusions: These results suggest a short, four-week reflective writing curriculum can enhance reflective capacity in a class of third-year medical students.

This article reviews the present literature covering GAHT effects on mood, behavioral health, and cognition in these individuals and offers research priorities to address knowledge gaps., Recent Findings: Although there are some conflicting data, GAHT overwhelmingly seems to have positive psychological effects in both adolescents and adults. Research tends to support that GAHT reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, lowers perceived and social distress, and improves quality of life and self-esteem in both male-to-female and female-to-male transgender individuals. Clinically, prescribing GAHT can help with gender dysphoria-related mental distress. Thus, timely hormonal intervention represents a crucial tool for improving behavioral wellness in transgender individuals, though effects on cognitive processes fundamental for daily living are unknown. Future research should prioritize better understanding of how GAHT may affect executive functioning.

134. The Effect of Different Training Loads on the Lung Health of Competitive Youth Swimmers.

Abstract: Airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), airway inflammation, and respiratory symptoms are common in competitive swimmers, however it is unclear how volume and intensity of training exacerbate these problems. Thus, our purpose was to measure AHR, inflammation, and respiratory symptoms after low, moderate, and high training loads in swimmers. Competitive youth swimmers (n=8) completed nine weeks of training split into three blocks (Low, Moderate, and High intensity). Spirometry at rest and post-bronchial provocation [Eucapnic Voluntary Hyperpnea (EVH)] and Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) were completed at the end of each training block. A weekly self-report questionnaire determined respiratory symptoms. Session Rating of Perceived Exertion (sRPE) quantified internal training loads. Internal load was significantly lower after Moderate training (4840 ± 971 AU) than after High training (5852 ± 737 AU) ( p = 0.02, d = 1.17). Pre-EVH FEV 1 was significantly decreased after Moderate (4.52 ± 0.69 L) compared to Low (4.74 ± 0.63 L) ( p = 0.025, d = 0.326), but not different from High load. Post-EVH FeNO after Moderate training was significantly decreased (9.4 ± 4.9 ppb) compared to Low training (15.4 ± 3.6 ppb) ( p = 0.012, r = 0.884). Respiratory symptom frequency was significantly correlated with percent decrease in FEV 1 20 minutes post-EVH after Low and Moderate loads (both ρ = -0.71, sig = 0.05), and after High load was significantly correlated with percent decrease in FEV 1 at 10 (ρ = -0.74, sig = 0.03), 15 (ρ = -0.91, sig = 0.00), and 20 minutes post (ρ = -0.75, sig = 0.03). In conclusion, Moderate load training resulted in the worst lung health results, suggesting there may be factors other than the total amount of stress within training blocks that influence lung health. Further research is needed to determine the effect of manipulating specific acute training load variables on the lung health of swimmers.

Abstract: Biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are engineered proteins with high affinity for various proinflammatory immune mediators to reduce inflammation and its sequelae in various rheumatic diseases. These medications, introduced at the advent of the 21st century, have revolutionized the treatment of axial spondyloarthritis (including ankylosing spondylitis) and psoriatic arthritis. Currently approved bDMARDs for axial spondyloarthritis are etanercept, infliximab, adalimumab, golimumab, certolizumab pegol, and secukinumab. For psoriatic arthritis, all of these drugs are approved in addition to ixekizumab, ustekinumab, abatacept, and tofacitinib. Abstract: Many established models of animal foraging assume that individuals are ecologically equivalent. However, it is increasingly recognized that populations may comprise individuals who differ consistently in their diets and foraging behaviors. For example, recent studies have shown that individual foraging site fidelity (IFSF, when individuals consistently forage in only a small part of their population's home range) occurs in some colonial breeders. Short-term IFSF could result from animals using a win-stay, lose-shift foraging strategy. Alternatively, it may be a consequence of individual specialization. Pelagic seabirds are colonial central-place foragers, classically assumed to use flexible foraging strategies to target widely dispersed, spatiotemporally patchy prey. However, tracking has shown that IFSF occurs in many seabirds, although it is not known whether this persists across years. To test for long-term IFSF and to examine alternative hypotheses concerning its cause, we repeatedly tracked 55 Northern Gannets (Morus bassanus) from a large colony in the North Sea within and across three successive breeding seasons. Gannets foraged in neritic waters, predictably structured by tidal mixing and thermal stratification, but subject to stochastic, wind-induced overturning. Both within and across years, coarse to mesoscale (tens of kilometers) IFSF was significant but not absolute, and foraging birds departed the colony in individually consistent directions. Carbon stable isotope ratios in gannet blood tissues were repeatable within years and nitrogen ratios were also repeatable across years, suggesting long-term individual dietary specialization. Individuals were also consistent across years in habitat use with respect to relative sea surface temperature and in some dive metrics, yet none of these factors accounted for IFSF. Moreover, at the scale of weeks, IFSF did not decay over time and the magnitude of IFSF across years was similar to that within years, suggesting that IFSF is not primarily the result of win-stay, lose-shift foraging. Rather, we hypothesize that site familiarity, accrued early in-life, causes IFSF by canalizing subsequent foraging decisions. Evidence from this and other studies suggests that IFSF may be common in colonial central-place foragers, with far-reaching consequences for our attempts to understand and conserve these animals in a rapidly changing environment.

Abstract: Ghrelin plays a major physiological role in the control of food intake, and inverse agonists of the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) are widely considered to offer utility as antiobesity agents by lowering the set-point for hunger between meals. We identified an acylurea series of ghrelin modulators from high throughput screening and optimized binding affinity through structure-activity relationship studies. Furthermore, we identified specific substructural changes, which switched partial agonist activity to inverse agonist activity, and optimized physicochemical and DMPK properties to afford the non-CNS penetrant inverse agonist 22 (AZ-GHS-22) and the CNS penetrant inverse agonist 38 (AZ-GHS-38). Free feeding efficacy experiments showed that CNS exposure was necessary to obtain reduced food intake in mice, and it was demonstrated using GHS-R1a null and wild-type mice that this effect operates through a mechanism involving GHS-R1a.

Abstract: Introduction: The largest cohort of critically ill patients evaluating intragastric and small intestinal delivery of nutrients was recently reported. This systematic review included recent data to compare the effects of small bowel and intragastric delivery of enteral nutrients in adult critically ill patients., Methods: This is a systematic review of all randomised controlled studies published between 1990 and March 2013 that reported the effects of the route of enteral feeding in the critically ill on clinically important outcomes., Results: Data from 15 level-2 studies were included. Small bowel feeding was associated with a reduced risk of pneumonia (Relative Risk, RR, small intestinal vs. intragastric: 0.75 (95% confidence interval 0.60 to 0.93); P=0.01; I2=11%). The point estimate was similar when only studies using microbiological data were included. Duration of ventilation (weighted mean difference: -0.36 days (-2.02 to 1.30); P=0.65; I2=42%), length of ICU stay (WMD: 0.49 days, (-1.36 to 2.33); P=0.60; I2=81%) and mortality (RR 1.01 (0.83 to 1.24); P=0.92; I2=0%) were unaffected by the route of feeding. While data were limited, and there was substantial statistical heterogeneity, there was significantly improved nutrient intake via the small intestinal route (% goal rate received: 11% (5 to 16%); P=0.0004; I2=88%)., Conclusions: Use of small intestinal feeding may improve nutritional intake and reduce the incidence of ICU-acquired pneumonia. In unselected critically ill patients other clinically important outcomes were unaffected by the site of the feeding tube.

Rational design and optimization of this series led to the discovery of compound 30 (AZD7687), which met the project objectives for potency, selectivity, in particular over ACAT1, solubility, and preclinical PK profiles. This compound showed the anticipated excellent pharmacokinetic properties in human volunteers.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of osmotic-release methylphenidate (OROS-MPH) compared with placebo for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and the impact on substance treatment outcomes in adolescents concurrently receiving cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for substance use disorders (SUD)., Method: This was a 16-week, randomized, controlled, multi-site trial of OROS-MPH + CBT versus placebo + CBT in 303 adolescents (aged 13 through 18 years) meeting DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for ADHD and SUD. Primary outcome measures included the following: for ADHD, clinician-administered ADHD Rating Scale (ADHD-RS), adolescent informant; for substance use, adolescent-reported days of use in the past 28 days. Secondary outcome measures included parent ADHD-RS and weekly urine drug screens (UDS)., Results: There were no group differences on reduction in ADHD-RS scores (OROS-MPH: -19.2, 95% confidence interval [CI], -17.1 to -21.2; placebo, -21.2, 95% CI, -19.1 to -23.2) or reduction in days of substance use (OROS-MPH: -5.7 days, 95% CI, 4.0-7.4; placebo: -5.2 days, 95% CI, 3.5-7.0). Some secondary outcomes favored OROS-MPH, including lower parent ADHD-RS scores at 8 (mean difference = 4.4, 95% CI, 0.8-7.9) and 16 weeks (mean difference =6.9; 95% CI, 2.9-10.9) and more negative UDS in OROS-MPH (mean = 3.8) compared with placebo (mean = 2.8; p = .04)., Conclusions: OROS-MPH did not show greater efficacy than placebo for ADHD or on reduction in substance use in adolescents concurrently receiving individual CBT for co-occurring SUD. However, OROS-MPH was relatively well tolerated and was associated with modestly greater clinical improvement on some secondary ADHD and substance outcome measures. 149. Oxides of small Rhodium clusters: Theoretical investigation of experimental reactivities.

Abstract: Density functional theory is used to investigate the structures of cationic rhodium cluster oxides, Rh(6)O(m) (+) (m=1,4). On the monoxide and dioxide, the oxygen atoms occupy bridge sites, while on trioxide and tetroxide clusters, high-coordination sites are favored. A range of spin multiplicities are investigated for each cluster, with high spin multiplicities found to be less favored for the oxides compared with the naked metal clusters. The dissociation of nitric oxide on low-energy isomers of Rh(6)O(4) (+) is investigated and found to be unfavorable compared to molecular adsorption due to a combination of thermodynamic and kinetic factors. These calculations are consistent with, and help to account for, the experimentally observed reactivity of rhodium and rhodium oxide clusters with nitric oxide [M. S. Ford et al., Phys. Chem. Chem. Abstract: Aims: The aim of this study was to determine if three classes of farm disinfectants were able to select for ciprofloxacin or cyclohexane tolerant [indicative of a multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) phenotype] Escherichia coli and if cyclohexane-tolerant E. coli could be isolated from farms., Methods and Results: Chicken slurry containing ca 1 : 99 ratio ciprofloxacin resistant : susceptible E. coli (10 different resistant strains examined) was treated for 24 h with each of the disinfectants and examined for survival of resistant : susceptible strains. Ciprofloxacin-sensitive (n=5) and -resistant (n=5) E. coli were grown with sublethal concentrations of the disinfectants and then plated to agar containing ciprofloxacin or overlaid with cyclohexane. Escherichia coli (n=389) isolated from farms were tested for cyclohexane tolerance. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were determined against representative isolates and mutants. The disinfectants did not select for the ciprofloxacin-resistant E. coli in poultry slurry but following growth with each of the three disinfectants, higher numbers (P < or = 0.023) of cyclohexane-tolerant E. coli were isolated and these had a MAR phenotype. Of the 389 farm E. coli tested, only one was cyclohexane tolerant., Conclusions: It is possible that in a farm environment, E. coli could be exposed to similar concentrations of the disinfectants that are selected for MAR type organisms under these laboratory conditions., Significance and Impact of the Study: Data from this study suggest that cyclohexane-resistant E. coli are not common on farms, but in view of the ease of isolating them in the laboratory with farm disinfectants, further investigations on farms are warranted.
