We report the analysis of the spatial energy distribution of data for e+e−→hadrons obtained with the MARK-J detector at PETRA. We define the quantity 'oblateness' to describe the flat shape of the energy configuration and the three-jet structure which is unambiguously observed for the first time. Our data can be explained by quantum chromodynamic predictions for the production of quark-antiquark pairs accompanied by hard noncollinear gluons.

The European physical journal / C 27(1), 27 - 37 (1985). doi:10.1007/BF01642477, Results onK0 and Λ production ine+e− annihilation at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV are presented. The shape of theK0 and Λ differential cross sections are very similar to each other and to those of π±,K± and\(p(\bar p)\). Scaling violations are observed forK0 production. We obtain a value for the probability to produce strange quark-antiquark pairs relative to that to produce up or down quark-antiquark pairs of 0.35±0.02±0.05. The value ofRh=σ(e+e-→hX)/σµµ is shown to rise steadily with c.m. energy for all particle species. At 34 GeV we find 1.48±0.05K0 and 0.31±0.03 Λ per event. We have searched for possible Λ polarization. The production ofK0's and Λ's in jets is examined as a function ofpT2 and rapidity and compared to that of all charged particles; the yields in two and three jets are also investigated. 5 pp. (1987)., A search for light leptoquarks decaying into a lepton and a quark has been performed using the CELLO detector at the storage ring PETRA. Decay modes have been looked for where the lepton is either a muon or a neutrino, the latter being detected by a high missing transverse momentum. Except for one event previously reported no further two-jet events with two isolated muons were observed. No evidence for pair production of these particles has been found in other final states configurations. Our results are interpreted within a model where leptoquarks appear as a coloured Goldsone multiplet of charges 2/3.A 95% CL upper limit of 0.30 pb is set on the pair production cross section of such leptoquarks, thus excluding masses between 7 and 20.5 GeV.

(1983). doi:10.1007/BF01577813, The inclusive production of π± andK± mesons and of protons and antiprotons ine+e− annihilation has been measured at c.m. energies ofW=14, 22 and 34GeV. Using time of flight measurements and Cerenkov counters the full momentum range has been covered. Differential cross sections and total particle yields are given. At particle momenta of 0.4 GeV/c more than 90% of the charged hadrons are pions. With increasing momentum the fraction of pions among the charged hadrons decreases. AtW=34 GeV and a momentum of 5 GeV/c the particle fractions are approximately π±:K±:p,\(\bar p = 0.55:0.3:0.15\). On average an event atW=34 GeV contains 10.3±0.4π±, 2.0±0.2K± and 0.8±0.1p,\(\bar p\). In addition, we present results on baryon correlations using a sample of events where two or more protons and/or antiprotons are observed in the final state.

128 pp. (1984)., The production of photons, neutral pions and $\eta$ - mesons in multihadronic events is investigated with the JADE detector at the electron - positron storage ring PETRA.The production properties of photons are in good agreement with theore- tical expectations from fragmentation models and quantum electrodynamics. The energy spectra scale with the centre of mass energy. Photon multiplicities as well as the photonic energy fraction are measured.Neutral pions are reconstructed by their decay into two photons. The corresponding energy spectra show scaling and agree with those of charged pions in the covered range.$\eta$ - mesons are observed in the two photon mass spectrum. Their energy spectrum is softer than the spectra of other mesons. The study of $\eta$ - meson production in special event - and jet- topologies suggests enhanced production rates in gluon fragmentation.A comparison of all measured photon sources dem onstrates the dominant production of inclusive photons from decays of neutral pions.

Bottom quarks 18 pp. (1984)., Recent results on weak interactions from experiments at the PETRA e+e− storage ring are presented. They include the determination of the weak neutral couplings in the purely leptonic reactions e+e−→e+e−, e+e−→μ+μ− and e+e− →τ+τ− and in the production of heavy charm and bottom quarks e+e−→cc̄ and e+e−→bb̄. The weak charged current is tested in τ decays, where new data on semihadronic branching ratis and a new lifetime measurement is reported, and in semileptonic decays of charm and bottom quarks.

Three different mechanisms are discussed which excite synchro-betatron resonances: the beam-beam interaction at a crossing angle, a dispersion at a cavity and transverse fields with a longitudinal gradient. Experimental results from DORIS and PETRA are shown.
