Chemical vapor deposition of carbon precursors on Cu‐based substrates at temperatures exceeding 1000 °C is currently a typical route for the scalable synthesis of large‐area high‐quality single‐layer graphene (SLG) films. Using molecules with higher activities than CH4 may afford lower growth temperatures that might yield fold‐ and wrinkle‐free graphene. The kinetics of growth of graphene using hydrocarbons other than CH4 are of interest to the scientific and industrial communities. We measured the growth rates of graphene islands on Cu(111) foils by using C2H2, C2H4, C2H6 and CH4, respectively (each mixed with H2). From such kinetics data we obtain the activation enthalpy (ΔH≠) of graphene growth as shown in parentheses (C2H2 (0.93±0.09 eV); C2H4 (2.05±0.19 eV); C2H6 (2.50±0.11 eV); CH4 (4.59±0.26 eV)); C2Hy (y=2, 4, 6) show similar growth behavior but CH4 is different. Computational fluid dynamics and density functional theory simulations suggest that C2Hy differs from CH4 due to different values of adsorption energy and the lifetime of relevant carbon precursors on the Cu(111) surface. Combining experimental and simulation results, we find that the rate determining step (RDS) is the dissociation of the first C−H bond of CH4 molecules in the gas phase, while the RDS using C2Hy is the first dehydrogenation of adsorbed C2Hy that happens with assistance of H atoms adsorbed on the Cu(111) surface. By using C2H2 as the carbon precursor, high‐quality single‐crystal adlayer‐free SLG films are achieved on Cu(111) foils at 900 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complexity of this condition is further highlighted by the impact of gene-environment interactions. A recent strategy combines advanced genomics and precision medicine methods to explore the complex genetic foundations of dementia. Utilizing the most recent research in the field of neurogenetics, the importance of precise genetic data in explaining the variation seen in dementia patients can be investigated. Gene-environment interactions are important because they influence genetic susceptibilities and aid in the development and progression of dementia. Modified to each patient's genetic profile, precision medicine has the potential to detect groups at risk and make previously unheard-of predictions about the course of diseases. Precision medicine techniques have the potential to completely transform treatment and diagnosis methods. Targeted medications that target genetic abnormalities will probably appear, providing the possibility for more efficient and customized medical interventions. Investigating the relationship between genes and the environment may lead to preventive measures that would enable people to change their surroundings and minimize the risk of dementia, leading to the improved lifestyle of affected people. A 7-year-old castrated male Persian cat presented with a cutaneous mass and an increase in serum amyloid A concentration. Fine needle aspirates of the mass indicated lymphoma, which was also the top differential diagnosis on histopathologic examinations. Immunohistochemically, neoplastic cells tested negative for anti-CD3, PAX5, CD20, and c-Kit, but positive for MUM1, CD79α, and CD138, suggesting extramedullary plasmacytoma. There were tumor-infiltrating non-neoplastic CD3+ T and PAX5+ B cells. Practitioners should be aware of feline plasmacytoma characterized by lymphoma-like cytologic and histologic features. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disorder characterized by the inflammation of the exocrine pancreas in dogs, and the severity of the clinical signs of pancreatitis varies greatly. Therefore, the diagnosis of pancreatitis is challenging. The canine pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity test (SNAP cPL; IDEXX Laboratories Inc., USA) is rapid and relatively accurate in diagnosing pancreatitis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the positivity rate of the SNAP cPL test in dogs regarding the severity of gastrointestinal (GI) signs and concurrent diseases. Electronic medical records of dogs were reviewed. For retrospective classification, 80 dogs with GI signs who underwent the SNAP cPL test were enrolled. Additionally, concurrent diseases on the day of the SNAP cPL test were reviewed. A positive SNAP cPL test result was observed in 26 of the 80 dogs (32.5%) with GI signs. The severity of GI signs using a scoring system and the positivity rate of SNAP cPL were statistically related. Furthermore, dogs with concurrent chronic kidney disease had a significantly higher positivity rate of SNAP cPL than those without chronic kidney disease. Prescribing a P2Y12 inhibitor for patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is challenging because of the risk of bleeding and ischemia. We compared the risk of ischemia and bleeding between clopidogrel and ticagrelor in elderly East Asian patients with diabetes using the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR)-V data. This study included 838 patients enrolled in the KAMIR-V who were >75 years, had DM, AMI, and had undergone PCI. The patients were divided into two groups based on the treatment drug. After propensity score matching, 466 patients (ticagrelor: clopidogrel= 233:233) were included in the Cox regression analyses to determine the risk of bleeding and ischemia. The baseline characteristics were not different. The type of antiplatelet therapy did not affect the incidence of Bleeding Academic Research Consortium type ≥2 bleeding. There was no significant difference between ticagrelor and clopidogrel treatment outcomes with respect to ischemia risk. This prospective study of a Korean patient cohort (elderly Korean patients with DM) showed no differences in bleeding and ischemia risks based on the use of either ticagrelor or clopidogrel. Large scale randomized controlled trials are warranted to determine the optimal antiplatelet agents for these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
