COVID-19,which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is one of the worst pandemics in recent history. The identification of patients suspected to be infected with COVID-19 is becoming crucial to reduce its spread. We aimed to validate and test a deep learning model to detect COVID-19 based on chest X-rays. The recent deep convolutional neural network (CNN) RegNetX032 was adapted for detecting COVID-19 from chest X-ray (CXR) images using polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) as a reference. The model was customized and trained on five datasets containing more than 15,000 CXR images (including 4148COVID-19-positive cases) and then tested on 321 images (150 COVID-19-positive) from Montfort Hospital. Twenty percent of the data from the five datasets were used as validation data for hyperparameter optimization. Each CXR image was processed by the model to detect COVID-19. Multi-binary classifications were proposed, such as: COVID-19 vs. normal, COVID-19 + pneumonia vs. normal, and pneumonia vs. normal. The performance results were based on the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity. In addition, an explainability model was developed that demonstrated the high performance and high generalization degree of the proposed model in detecting and highlighting the signs of the disease. The fine-tuned RegNetX032 model achieved an overall accuracy score of 96.0%, with an AUC score of 99.1%. The model showed a superior sensitivity of 98.0% in detecting signs from CXR images of COVID-19 patients, and a specificity of 93.0% in detecting healthy CXR images. A second scenario compared COVID-19 + pneumonia vs. normal (healthy X-ray) patients. The model achieved an overall score of 99.1% (AUC) with a sensitivity of 96.0% and specificity of 93.0% on the Montfort dataset. For the validation set, the model achieved an average accuracy of 98.6%, an AUC score of 98.0%, a sensitivity of 98.0%, and a specificity of 96.0% for detection (COVID-19 patients vs. healthy patients). The second scenario compared COVID-19 + pneumonia vs. normal patients. The model achieved an overall score of 98.8% (AUC) with a sensitivity of 97.0% and a specificity of 96.0%. This robust deep learning model demonstrated excellent performance in detecting COVID-19 from chest X-rays. This model could be used to automate the detection of COVID-19 and improve decision making for patient triage and isolation in hospital settings. This could also be used as a complementary aid for radiologists or clinicians when differentiating to make smart decisions.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent obesity has become a pressing public health issue in Morocco. Along with the increased prevalence of obesity, body weight misperceptions have also increased among adolescents, which may reduce the effectiveness of intervention programs. The main study objective was to establish the relationship between body image perception, anthropometric status and their associated factors among a sample of Moroccan adolescents. METHODS: A cross-sectional school-based survey was conducted during 2018, involving 250 adolescents from Morocco. Data on sociodemographic information, anthropometric characteristics, and weight perception were collected and reported as the means and proportions. Statistical analysis was carried out using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 19.0 software. RESULTS: The prevalence of overweight and obesity in our study reached 12.8% and 4.8%, respectively. Misperception of body weight compared to body mass index (BMI) was found in 50.4% of young adolescents (χ2 = 54.05; p 0.05). The Feel weight status minus Actual weight status Inconsistency (FAI) index was used to determine whether the subjects’ perception of their weight was realistic. The simultaneous advances in deep learning and the Internet of Things (IoT) have benefited distributed deep learning paradigms. Federated learning is one of the most promising frameworks, where a server works with local learners to train a global model. The intrinsic heterogeneity of IoT devices, or non-independent and identically distributed (Non-I.I.D.) data, combined with the unstable communication network environment, causes a bottleneck that slows convergence and degrades learning efficiency. Additionally, the majority of weight averaging-based model aggregation approaches raise questions about learning fairness. In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer federated learning (P2PFL) framework based on Vision Transformers (ViT) models to help solve some of the above issues and classify COVID-19 vs. normal cases on Chest-X-Ray (CXR) images. Particularly, clients jointly iterate and aggregate the models in order to build a robust model. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach is capable of significantly improving the performance of the model with an Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.92 and 0.99 for hospital-1 and hospital-2, respectively.

This paper proposes an identification algorithm for the fractional Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) system considering noisy scheduling and output measurements. A bias correction technique is provided in order to compensate for the bias caused by the least squares algorithm. This approach was created to estimate either coefficients or fractional-order differentiation, and it has been proven to produce unbiased and reliable results. The suggested method’s performance is assessed by the identification of two fractional models and was compared with Nelder–Mead Simplex method.

Thermal analysis is an essential step that enables co-design of the computing system (i.e., integrated circuits and computer architectures) with the cooling system (e.g., heat sink). Existing thermal simulation tools are limited by several major challenges that prevent them from providing fast solutions to large problem sizes that are necessary to conduct standard-cell level thermal analysis or to evaluate new technologies or large chips. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a SPICE-based PArallel Compact Thermal simulator (PACT) that achieves fast and accurate, standard-cell to architecture-level, steady-state and transient parallel thermal simulations. PACT utilizes the advantages of multicore processing (OpenMPI) and includes several solvers to speed up both steady-state and transient simulations. PACT can be easily extended to model a variety of emerging integration and cooling technologies by simply modifying the thermal netlist. In addition, PACT can also be used with popular architecture-level performance and power simulators. In comparison to a state-of-the-art finite-element method (FEM) based simulator (COMSOL), PACT has a maximum error of 2.77% and 3.28% for steady-state and transient thermal simulations, respectively. Compared to a popular compact thermal simulator, HotSpot, PACT demonstrates a speedup of up to 1.83× and 186× for steady-state and transient simulations, respectively. We also show the applicability and extensibility of PACT through modeling emerging integration and cooling technologies, such as monolithic 3D ICs and liquid cooling via microchannels, and full-system simulation integration on a 2.5D system with silicon-photonic network-on-chips (PNoCs).

BACKGROUND: Meeting physical activity (PA) guidelines and decreasing sedentary time (SED-time) are cornerstones in the management of diabetes. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the level of PA, SED-time, and related factors among Moroccan diabetes patients. METHODS: From February to June 2019, 1143 patients with type 2 diabetes took part in a cross-sectional survey. PA and SED-time were assessed through a face-to-face interview using International PA Questionnaire. RESULTS: The PA recommendations were achieved by 77.7% of participants and they were significantly higher in males using oral antidiabetic alone, in normal and overweight participants, and in those with duration less than 7 years. While in females, this level was significantly higher only in participants with a family history of diabetes. The mean SED-time was high (35.66±16.88 hours/week) and increased with age, BMI, duration of diabetes, among widowers and divorced, illiterate and among those with low level of PA. CONCLUSIONS: The PA level and SED-time were high. Furthermore, participants with high SED-time have low levels of PA, which represents a combined risk of sitting and inactivity in this subgroup. As a result, patients should be encouraged to participate regularly in PA and also to minimize their SED-time.

This investigation was aimed to assess and evaluate the effect of frying process with three different oils (corn, olive and margarine) on fatty acids and lipid classes’ composition of clam and their impact on the nutritional value and tissues quality. The results indicated that the contents of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids varied significantly in fried clams and frying oil. Our data demonstrated that all lipid classes’ contents increased significantly after all frying processes. It was concluded that the frying process decreased the n-3/n-6 and DHA+EPA and increased the levels of atherogenic; thrombogenic indices. Additionally, these culinary processes promoted lipid peroxidation through the enhancement of TBARs, PV and FFA. These changes were more significant and intensive after frying with margarine and corn oils followed by virgin olive oil. These results suggest that clam fried with olive oil can be classified as highly nutritive in regard to its lipid content, major fatty acid profile; and nutritional value.

Introduction: The widespread lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic was insured by Moroccan authorities in early 2020 to preserve the health of citizens. The lockdown and the pandemic imposed psychological effects on the population including anxiety. Celiac disease (CeD), a chronic disease among the most common inflammatory intestinal disorders, has been linked to adult emotional disturbances. Hence, CeD patients may suffer from anxiety or increase this condition due to the concomitant situation. The objective of this study was to assess COVID-19-related anxiety in a sample of adults with CeD in comparison with a matched healthy group. Method: CeD patients (103) and matched healthy group (101) were investigated using a web-based COVID-19 and related lockdown anxiety survey. Anxiety was assessed with the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI test: Y1 for state anxiety and Y2 for trait anxiety). Results: State anxiety was present among 65.3% of CeD and 41.6% of the comparison group, and the difference was statistically significant. CeD women suffered more from state anxiety than their compeers in the comparison group (t = 3.23; p = 0.002), and a significant correlation between good compliance to GFD and less state anxiety was found among CeD patients (r = 0.31; p = 0.002). 61.8% of CeD participants thought they were at higher risk of contamination by COVID-19, and they were mostly women (χ2 = 7.66, p < 0.006) and had significantly higher state anxiety mean scores than their compatriots who did not express these thoughts (t = 2.93; p = 0.004). Additionally, 41.5% of CeD participants had anxiety as a trait against 26.7% in the comparison group and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. Conclusion: Results of this survey allow a better understanding of the health-related pandemic effects on Moroccan CeD patients. It demonstrates that COVID-19 and related lockdowns had a serious impact on the psychological balance of these patients by increasing their anxiety. The survey results underlined the need to improve the psychological care of CeD patients notably by considering remote medical visits during this ongoing pandemic to provide mental health support.

Backgroud: The double burden of malnutrition and the emergence of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes further tax healthcare systems and can be an unbearable burden notably for emerging countries. Of note this double burden is often associated with the nutrition transition; a transition from a traditional local diet to an "industrialized" diet often rich in fat, salt, and sugar combined with low nutritional density. This transition is attributed to global changes in food systems which result in increased availability of foodstuffs marketed on a global level such as vegetable oils, sugars, refined flours, but also the multiplication of places of sale of processed foods, or even ultra-transformed. Morocco, like other African countries, is in a phase of rapid demographic, nutritional, and epidemiological transition. As a result, eating habits and lifestyles are changing, leading to the emergence of new health problems such as overweight and obesity. Methods: In order to assess the nutrition transition in Morocco and its effects on the health of the population, we have examined the various studies that have dealt with this problem. Furthermore, systematic analysis shows that exclusive breastfeeding rates have dropped from 51% in 1992 to 31% in 2004 to 27.8% in 2011, representing a drop of 23.2% in 19 years. Results:The analysis showed that children and adolescents are adopting new eating models to the detriment of the healthy "traditional Mediterranean diet". These new behaviors are the consequence of the context of family life and the modification of lifestyles (unbalanced diet, sedentary lifestyle ...). Concusion: it is noteworthy that in the adult population, the cultural component remains the most determining factor in the definition of body size, especially in women. There were two excavation missions at the site of Koustilya, in 2017 and in 2018, to investigate the remains of a late rural church. The excavations identified the monument as a building for Christian worship. The architecture of this monument (three aisles and an apse and associated rooms) suggests a Christian church. This church enriches the list of rural Christian churches in Tunisia and additionally has some special features: among the architectural components discovered in this church are two fixed ambons built into the masonry. These give this church a particular importance, somewhat unique when compared to other Christian churches in the ancient Maghreb.

BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity among children and adolescents are serious public health issues worldwide. A better understanding of the relationships between obesity and lifestyle factors is necessary for effective prevention and management of obesity in youth. BACKGROUND: Exclusive breastfeeding is the best form of nutrition for infants during the first 6 months of life. Nevertheless, the practice of breastfeeding is currently declining throughout the world. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) practice and its associated factors among mothers living in Marrakesh province, Morocco. METHODS: The data were collected using an interviewer administered questionnaire. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding practice. RESULTS: Prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding was 50.2%. Mothers with age more than 30 years, residing in rural area, receiving counseling related breastfeeding during antenatal follow up and having knowledge about duration of breastfeeding were more likely to practice exclusive breastfeeding than their counterparts. CONCLUSION: Although the prevalence of breastfeeding in Marrakesh was higher than the last national survey report but it is still insufficient. These findings have to stress authorities and deciders to sensitize mothers and future mothers to increase exclusive breastfeeding practice notably through the involvement of health professionals.

In order to increase the low-temperature resistance of Nile tilapia, the purpose of this study was to determine the potential effect of ω3 fatty acid incorporation in Oreochromis niloticus diet. To perform this, two experimental diets containing soybean oil (D1) and cod liver oil (D2) have been supplied to juvenile tilapia for 30 days. According to our results, similar improvements in the two diets have been recorded for growth performance of O. niloticus including the final body mass, specific growth rate, and feed conversion ratio. Our results showed that fish fed with diet D2 promoted high polyunsaturated fatty acids mainly n-3 series (PUFA (n-3)) percent, highlighting the increased levels of docosahexaenoic (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA) as well as the activation of their conversion enzyme ratios D5D and D6D desaturases. The second objective was to assess the effect of the two experimental diets on low water temperature tolerance.
