Abstract A large maxillary odontogenic cyst could intrude into the maxillary sinus. The traditional approach following surgery for such a cyst is the Caldwell–Luc procedure. However, the traditional CDL procedure is associated with more complications and damage of the sinus mucosa. The purpose of this study was to assess a new method with easier operation, which not only prevented postoperative infection but also caused less damage to the maxillary sinus mucosa. A large odontogenic cyst in the maxillary sinus of 40 patients was diagnosed through radiographic imaging and postoperative histopathology. Twenty patients were treated with maxillary sinus saline irrigation after surgery, while 20 patients underwent the traditional Caldwell–Luc procedure. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by clinical examination and radiographic imaging; the longest follow-up was 36 months. The postoperative reaction was evaluated. There was a statistically significant difference in facial swelling, visual analog scale (VAS) and temperature elevation between the 2 groups. Sinus irrigation following large odontogenic cyst surgery involving the maxillary sinus can serve as an alternative to standard CDL and has the advantages of fewer complications, reduced trauma, restoration of the mucosa and more satisfactory results.

Vibration substantially degrades machining quality and measurement accuracy in ultra-precision processes, necessitating the implementation of vibration isolators to mitigate these effects. Magnetic vibration isolators represent a promising alternative due to their wide isolation frequency range, low energy consumption, and compatibility with vacuum environments. In designing the quasi-zero stiffness magnetic vibration isolator, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is employed to balance multiple performance indicators. To address the limitations of conventional optimization methods, which excessively prioritize stiffness and fail to encompass the entire performance spectrum of magnetic vibration isolators, this study presents an innovative optimization approach. This novel strategy directly enhances vibration isolation by integrating transmissibility and compliance considerations. Structural parameters for two types of magnetic vibration isolators were established through optimizations utilizing both conventional and innovative techniques. Simulations and experiments demonstrate that isolators developed using the proposed optimization method outperform those designed with conventional strategies, thereby validating the effectiveness of this advancement. High-sensitivity magnetic sensors are fundamental components in fields such as biomedicine and non-destructive testing. Flux concentration technology enhances the sensitivity of magnetic sensors by amplifying the magnetic field to be measured, making it the most effective method to improve the magnetic field resolution of magnetic sensors. Superconductors and high-permeability soft magnetic materials exhibit completely different magnetic effects. The former possesses complete diamagnetism, while the latter has extremely high magnetic permeability. Both types of materials can be used to fabricate flux concentrators. This paper compares superconducting and soft magnetic flux concentration technologies through theoretical simulations and experiments, investigating the impact of different structural parameters on the magnetic field amplification performance of superconducting and soft magnetic concentrators. Silkworm (Bombyx mori) pupae are popular edible insects with high nutritional and therapeutic value. Currently, there is growing interest in the comprehensive application of silkworm pupae. In this study, peptides that exhibited anti-photoaging activity were obtained from silkworm pupae protein, aiming to investigate the protective effects and potential mechanisms of silkworm pupae peptides (SPPs) on skin photoaging. The results showed that SPPs were composed of 900 short peptides and could effectively alleviate skin photoaging progression. They significantly eliminated excessive production of ROS and MDA; meanwhile, they also renovated the antioxidant enzyme activities. The biomarkers related to collagen synthesis and degradation, including hydroxyproline, interstitial collagenase, and gelatinase, demonstrated that SPPs could suppress collagen degradation. Histopathological results showed that SPPs could reduce the inflammatory infiltrate and the thickness of the dermis and epidermis, as well as increase the collagen bundles and muscle fibers. The histopathological and biochemical results confirmed that SPPs could alleviate photoaging by inhibiting abnormal skin changes, reducing oxidative stress, and immune suppression. Overall, these data prove the protective effects of SPPs against the photoaging process, suggesting their potential as an active ingredient in skin photoaging prevention and therapy. A ethylene - octene copolymer (OBC)/waste polystyrene (WPS) compatibilizing masterbatch was prepared through the Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction. The effects of anhydrous; AlCl3 dossage on the grafting rate of WPS and the properties of the masterbatch and the effects of the masterbatch dosage on the comprehensive performance of ethylene -propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) were investigated. The results indicated that WPS could react with OBC to form an OBC-g-WPS graft copolymer. There was no gelation at an anhydrous AlCl3 dosage of 0. 4 and a WPS grafting rate of 25. 3 wt%, resulting in the best comprehensive properties of the masterbatch. When this compatibilizing masterbatch was used for EPDM, the resultant rubber exhibited higher tensile strength, higher tear strength, and better heat aging resistance than pure EPDM vulcanized rubber, and its performance was also better than that of the EPDM containing the same amount of an OBC/WPS physical blend. Scanning electron microscopy indicated that WPS was uniformly dispersed in the vulcanized EPDM rubber with the addition of the OBC/WPS compatibilizing masterbatch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Monolayer molybdenum disulfide (1L-MoS2) is considered a potential optoelectronic device material due to its ultrathin and direct bandgap properties. However, the absorption of incident light by 1L-MoS2 has shown to be relatively low and is not sufficient to implement high photoelectric conversion efficiency, limiting its practical applications in photodetectors. Due to the local surface plasmon resonance effect, the integration of plasma nanoparticles (NPs) with 2D materials may provide a promising method for enhancing light–matter interactions. Nevertheless, MoS2 may undergo fold deformation when transferred to the plasma structure when prepared via conventional strategies, resulting in the introduction of larger defects. In this work, we reported on a photodetector with enhanced MoS2 photoresponsivity on a flat plasmon functional substrate, in which the Ag NPs were embedded into fused silica (SiO2) by ion implantation. Using MoS2/Ag NPs:SiO2 architecture, the photocurrent of the MoS2-based photodetector was significantly improved under incident light of 375, 532, and 635 nm, with a maximum increase of 72.8 times, while the response time also decreased to a certain extent. Furthermore, the plasma functional substrate had the advantages of environmental stability and repeatable recycling, allowing it to be easily integrated with different 2D materials.
