How family firms adopt a certain corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach remains a relatively unexplored matter in family firm and firm ethics research. Hence, we study how and why the CSR approach (broad vs. narrow; benefits vs. costs) differs within family firms, addressing the influence of the socio-emotional wealth (SEW) dimensions, individually or combined. We used empirical evidence gathered through 13 case studies of firms from the Andalusia region and we used the interpretative approach of the grounded theory based on case study data. Results of our analyses lead to propose that family firms with a higher identification and more positive than negative valence with regard to emotional attachment and family enrichment dimensions will be more likely to exhibit a broad approach of CSR. Likewise, those family firms adopting CSR actions with stakeholders due to instrumental use of image and reputation dimension will more probably display a benefits approach. Stalking can be defined as a pattern of fixated, repeated, and unwanted behaviours. Stalking is not an isolated incident and was associated to sexual violence. While the relationship between sexual violence and stalking is scarcely explored, no studies have tested the relationship between stalking and sexual homicide, which both involves elements of obsession. The aim of this paper was to study the relationship between stalking and sexual homicide using an exploratory case study analysis of 7 males convicted for sexual homicide. Results revealed: (1) The presence of obsession prior to the homicide; (2) The victims were ex‐intimate partners or acquaintances; (3) The victims were followed several times prior to the index offence; (4) Stalking elements were not always considered by the authorities, which has led to an escalation of behaviours. Objectives: This article explores the stages where trauma is experienced (123s) and its physiopsychological impact (affect, behavior, and cognitions [ABCs]) in unaccompanied Latinx Minors through the analysis of a composite case study. Unaccompanied Latinx Minors represent a unique and growing population in the United States that warrants careful consideration from a trauma-informed and resilience-based framework. Method: A detailed case study was implemented, triangulating caregiver and client therapy records to illustrate the framework of stages of trauma exposure (123s) and physiopsychological impact (ABCs). Results: Latinx children often encounter various potentially traumatic experiences and adverse childhood experiences at the following stages (123s): (1) Preimmigration; (2) During immigration; and (3) Postimmigration. The extended traumas experienced by immigrant youth may easily constitute toxic stress. Moreover, once in the destination country, youth may lack coping resources or encounter stressful circumstances that prolong or exacerbate the impact of previous traumas. This continuous physiological hyperarousal can also result in changes in brain neurobiology, which further compounds the experience of other symptoms (Krupnik, 2021). These potentially complex trauma responses may manifest for these children through ABCs. The cumulative impact of these incidents may have significant effects on minors' A. Affective, B. Behavioral, and C. Cognitive functioning. Conclusions: Relevant clinical implications and policy recommendations for addressing the multifaceted needs of unaccompanied Latinx minors. Public Significance Statement: In order to assist unaccompanied Latinx Minor in adjusting to their new lives in the United States, it is important to understand the sources of trauma (123s) from the immigration and acculturation process, as well as how these impact their bodies, minds, and behaviors (ABCs). Background & Objective: A learning style refers to an individual's own approach to perceiving, processing, and retaining novel information. Modifying instructional approaches to align with students' individual learning preferences enhances their learning. The current study was carried out to investigate the learning style preferences of students studying basic medical sciences at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September 23, 2022, to February 10, 2023, on 230 students who were selected by the available sampling method. The data collection tool was a two-part questionnaire including demographic factors and the Kolb Learning Styles Scale (version 3.1). Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chisquare test, and one-way analysis of variance using SPSS-24. Results: The students had an average age of 20.35 ± 1.85 years, with 53.9% men and 46.1% females. Dominant learning styles comprised 37.4% assimilating and 33.9% converging, comprising 71.3% of participants. Diverging and accommodating accounted for 21.7% and 7%, respectively, of the remaining subjects. No statistically significant difference was identified between dominant learning styles and demographic characteristics (p < 0.05). Conclusion: People with a preference for assimilating and converging learning styles show less interest in subjects that require communication with others. A substantial body of research highlights the value of nature experience in supporting children's well-being and development. Given the growing interest in connectedness to nature (C2N), a better understanding of C2N measurement provides multiple opportunities, including consideration of the use of tools for research purposes and practitioner program measurement. The combination of interest in C2N and the potential for measuring the human relationship with nature provide the background for this exploratory study. The study's goal was to highlight the appropriate use of C2N scales based on considerations of context and culture. Three different, albeit related, efforts to translate, adapt, and use C2N measurements with children in a Danish-Swedish context during 2021–2022 were examined using case study methodology. Synthesis of the case studies provides general lessons and specific insights researchers and practitioners have learned regarding scale development and the application of measurement tools for children. Process functionality, child well-being, and conceptual appropriateness are three outcomes of the analysis that guide using child-oriented C2N scales in a Nordic context. The results highlight promoting discussions about nature and children's access to nature while guiding scale use. How do environmentally-driven and firm-specific factors influence business innovation and adaptation? How can the analysis of their co-evolutionary relationship help explain firm survival or failure over time? To address these key questions, this article focuses on the study regarding the 20-year performance (1997–2017) of the Fiat (later Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) group in the automobile industry. The analysis primarily deals with three historical phases: crisis (1997–2002), turnaround (2003–2007), and expansion (2008–2017). As a key contribution, the study combines elaborations from a robust dataset comprising both industry characteristics and executive team features, with historical events both at the environmental and the firm's strategy levels. This paper outlines innovative pedagogical approaches in chemical engineering safety education, utilising three key strategies: (1) Integration of the direct experiences of experienced professional engineers to teach expertise-aligned process safety case studies; (2) Shifting from traditional short oral presentations to more comprehensive and dynamic 'engineering meeting' formats to drive constructive student learning; and (3) The use of Generative AI to enhance (1) and (2), with cost/time scalability, improved student access and by accommodating greater learning-style diversity. The present institutional case study explores the antecedents and aftereffects of the Unite the Right rally at the University of Virginia (UVA), a white supremacist event that occurred on August 11th and 12th in 2017. Specifically, we considered how the "Summer of Hate" informed Black undergraduate students' sense of belonging and safety at UVA, as well as their perceptions of institutional accountability before and after the rallies. We analyzed individual interview data from 27 Black students who were newly arriving or returning to campus in August 2017. We identified four themes: (a) disillusionment with UVA and reckoning with the university's racial history, (b) racial battle fatigue from the rinse and repeat of racial exclusion, (c) feeling connected to the legacy of Black resistance at UVA, and (d) hesitant hope for institutional change. The findings elucidate how the historical and contemporary legacy of institutional whiteness at the university contributed to the rallies, as well as how Black students' responses illustrate their commitment to protest institutional erasure and racialized inequities on campus. While Black students appreciated their personal and communal resistance to the displays of racialized hate, they believed the administration had the power to take a stronger position before the rallies occurred. Despite efforts to use environmental DNA (eDNA), accurately quantifying fish populations remains a challenge. A recent eDNA approach provided reliable estimates of coastal fish population abundance, but it was not as effective for assessing spatial distribution due to a lack of eDNA samples relative to the study area. Therefore, we conducted a numerical case study to evaluate the ability of the eDNA approach to estimate fish (Jack mackerel) abundance and distribution based on the number of eDNA samples in a semi-enclosed bay (Jinhae Bay). Our study revealed that the eDNA approach can provide reliable estimates of fish abundance, even with knowledge of the eDNA concentration in just 1% of the study area. However, for estimating spatial distribution and fish school, significant estimates were obtained only when the eDNA concentration was identified in more than 70% of the study area. For nearly three decades, mathematics research has indicated the need for high-quality mathematics instruction including both ambitious and equitable practices, as well as continuous, innovative learning opportunities for educators. Teaching practices and standards for mathematical practice have been identified to provide guidance. While research connects effective professional development (PD) to improved instructional practices, there is a need for additional research on the role mathematics specialists play in developing and sustaining PDs. This qualitative case study examined the multiple roles of a specialist while laying the foundational components for a coordinated PD system to improve and strengthen mathematics teaching and learning in elementary classrooms. The PD efforts included the implementation of a teacher subsystem where a specialist led all components consisting of pull-out PD, mathematics coaching, collaborative time, and teacher networks. This study took place at a rural, pre-K through fourth-grade school in a southeastern state. Analysis of the data identified the specialist's key roles in each component of the teacher subsystem. The results indicated that the development and implementation of a teacher subsystem impacts the overall effectiveness of PD. Findings serve as a foundation for specialists to design and implement coordinated efforts that can have positive impacts on the teaching and learning of mathematics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, I developed a meditation-based psychological intervention, named the Samatha Meditation, Tao, and Routine Training (SMTRT), to help a world-class rifle shooting athlete improve his performance in competitions. The SMTRT program is guided by the Buddhist principles of Nine Mental Abidings taking into account the specific characteristics of psychological demands on rifle athletes. The program's efficacy was preliminarily ascertained based on positive qualitative feedback from the participant and his winning performance in a national championship competition. The achievement of net-zero emissions is a major governmental challenge to ameliorate the adverse impacts of climate change, and to reduce the health risks associated with poor air quality. In Australia, the transport sector is a major contributor to particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions, especially in urban areas. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government recognises that one of the greatest sustainability challenges to achieving a carbon-neutral society with net-zero emissions is the transport sector because it contributes 60 percent of all emissions under its jurisdiction. The ACT is a suitable case study on climate change, energy policy, and transport emissions because its electricity is powered by renewable energy; its governance has included a continuous planning philosophy of integrating transport with land use. The methodology is based on identifying and summarising the international literature on net-zero emissions policy (n = 50), the relevant policy documents and reports by the Australian Government (n = 8) and by the ACT Government (n = 32). An appraisal of policy outcomes in the ACT is based on an analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. In a car-dependent city (77% of trips by private transport), the most realistic policies for achieving net-zero emissions are to encourage, through fiscal incentives and regulations, the adoption of electric vehicles for buses and private cars, electric or hydrogen vehicles for the commercial fleet, and regulations to phase out petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles. The paper analyzes how to improve the teaching of Operational Research, focusing on distance learning courses where professors and students are separated through space and time. This case study was done in a public Industrial Engineering undergraduate course, and the work structure is divided into three main parts: an exploratory‐descriptive documentary analysis, application of free software, and evaluation of learning. The authors showed the feasibility of using the SageMath tool in the teaching‐learning process. The study revealed the importance of developing alternative solutions to educational realities marked by economic and financial constraints, where structure teaching with free software is a ruling factor once Engineering education is not a similar global event everywhere. Distance learning is a phenomenon that has been growing over the last 20 years in Brazil, but this was one of the first experiences with the use of SageMath. So, it can serve as a reference for countries with socioeconomic conditions similar to Brazil. Also, this case study can help other professors to enhance their teaching in a distance learning context even in scarcity scenarios of educational resources. Economic incentive is thought a good intervention type that can encourage residents to do food waste sorting by many cities' government in China. However, there is a lack of long-term, large-scale study. So the business-led incentive scheme was studied by a case study in Nanjing, China, which focuses on food waste sorting. The results showed that the incentive can encourage at most an average 37% of residents to start and then continue to do food waste sorting regularly. Later, the incentive cannot encourage more even with many non-economic interventions. And most of these participating residents (31%) were encouraged at the first 12 months. The results also showed that house price had a negative relationship with the community sorting performance. The comparative study results showed that the community committee must be involved in the non-economic interventions to encourage more residents to take part; otherwise, the company will fail even after many attempts. So the government should apply the incentive policy by dialectical view in food waste sorting. And the incentive scheme should involve all the stakeholders to apply non-economic interventions to encourage more residents to do food waste sorting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on inclusion in early childhood educational (ECE) settings points to the need for a deeper understanding of professionals' perceptions of the dilemmas and challenges situated in the varying contexts of these settings. Viewing inclusion as a complex phenomenon, this study uses the Deweyan theory of democracy as a lived experience to describe how professionals in three ECE settings understand the values of inclusion and democracy and how these values are enacted in their everyday practices of creating democratic communities. Three case studies were conducted, including individual interviews with head teachers, focus‐group interviews with professionals and semi‐structured observations in three ECE settings. The results show that the three settings present unique prerequisites and challenges for the building of democratic communities related to the varying views on inclusion and democracy. The understandings of values of inclusion and democracy and how these are enacted in the three ECE settings are discussed with regard to the possibilities and obstacles involved in the creation of democratic communities. This study investigates the influence of Business Process Management System (BPMS) implementation on an organization's process orientation through a case study of a financial service provider. Business process maturity models are utilized to capture change in process orientation. Explorative data analysis, Bayesian ordinal regression, and structured interviews are employed for the analysis. Findings suggest that a successful BPMS introduction positively influences diverse aspects of process orientation, extending both process and organizational capabilities beyond process automation. Drawing on experiential learning theory (ELT), this study (1) explores students' perceived benefits of experiencing different learning styles through an audit simulation (AS) assignment and (2) analyses its role in enhancing students' performance at a Middle East and North Africa (MENA) university. The study compares students' performance across two different periods, 2019 and 2022, with 46 and 48 participants, respectively, independently completing a questionnaire of six open‐ended questions paired with follow‐up feedback, the instructor's observations and the analyses of students' grades. Our study findings indicate that the AS assignment enabled students to effectively experience different learning styles at different times during the AS learning process. They visualised an authentic AS experience by critically analysing and practically evaluating AS documents while showing strong preferences for initiating new experiences. It also reveals an improvement in students' grades after the AS implementation. Our study has theoretical implications relating to cognitive and constructivist learning, learning transfer and ethics awareness, as well as practical implications in audit education, skill development, teamwork, professional development, auditors' evaluation and curriculum assessment in other disciplines than auditing. This research seeks to examine and distinguish the factors influencing empowerment and exertion of knowledge management along with the effect of knowledge management on organizational performance. In addition, this paper investigates human capital as mediator between the relationship of knowledge management and organizational performance. The conceptual model was extended based on the literature review. The primary data were gathered using a questionnaire comprising 48 questions distributed to the personnel of all branches of one of the largest private banks in Iran. Three hundred sixty-one questionnaires were randomly distributed among the personnel, and 334 questionnaires were answered. The gathered data were examined through SPSS and SMART PLS. The results demonstrated the positive impacts of variables including structure, organizational technology, strategy, culture, and trust on organizational knowledge management under study. Moreover, knowledge management directly affects the performance of the organization and through human resource management as mediator. This study motivates the managers and personnel to exploit the accessible organizational assets for enhancing knowledge management practices as well as human resources as the most exquisite organizational capitals. This study investigates the management of internal coopetitive tensions among business units (BUs) in multiunit organizations from a management-control perspective. Existing research on internal coopetitive management has acknowledged the role of principles and mechanisms in managing these tensions but has paid less attention to the role of controls. Drawing from the literature on management control, we follow the package perspective, which suggests combining technical and social controls to manage tensions in organizations. The question becomes how a package of technical and social controls can manage coopetitive tensions. This longitudinal case study of a leading French multiunit company in the banking industry therefore (1) provides evidence of coopetitive tensions between two BUs; (2) highlights how a package of controls was used to manage these coopetitive tensions; (3) demonstrates how this package increased competition and generated competitive tensions between the BUs; and (4) describes how a new combination of controls was adapted to manage these additional tensions. These findings thus enrich the coopetition management literature by revealing (1) the essential role of controls in managing internal coopetitive relationships among BUs; (2) the package of controls for effectively managing internal coopetition; and (3) the dynamic interactions between the use of controls and tensions among BUs. Background: This paper reports on recruiting strategies in a study which aimed to examine the mechanism of intranasal oxytocin on cue-induced opiate craving and attentional bias in males using heroin in addition to substitute opiates from four UK community drug treatment services. Methods: Recruitment took place during and post-COVID-19 periods of social distancing and lockdowns. Caseworkers obtained consent to contact from interested service users before an initial telephone screen. People were then scheduled for in-person screens, typically within seven days of the initial telephone call. Subsequent visits took place within 30 days of the previous visit. Each visit lasted one hour and participants received one £20 voucher per completed visit. Results: Thirty participants were randomized from 113 referrals. We were unable to contact 36% (n = 41) of people. Of those eligible to start the study (n = 44), 68% (n = 30) agreed to start the study, retaining 82% (n = 24) to completion. Factors which positively influenced recruitment were having a research presence on site, the cultivation of relationships and demonstrating respect and gratitude toward the participants. Conclusions: These results support the feasibility of recruiting males currently using heroin in addition to substitute opiates utilizing a person-first approach with service users and staff. Purpose: This study aims to synthesize the existing literature with insights gained from interviews conducted with regulatory experts. The objective is to analyse the challenges associated with incorporating cryptocurrencies into regulatory frameworks and to explore constraints in the regulatory institutionalization of cryptocurrencies. Design/methodology/approach: The study methodology consists of two steps. The first step is to identify regulatory constraints in the literature review and in the next step, interviews are conducted with officials of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The study used a qualitative case study methodology, in which a single case (regulatory constraint) was selected as a unit of analysis. Findings: The findings show that lack of traceability, legal status, lack of governmental control due to decentralization, difficulty enforcing laws, volatility, lack of skills with regulators and difficulty integrating cryptocurrencies into the current financial system are the main obstacles to the introduction of a regulatory framework. Thus, on a broader conceptual level, the findings can be grouped into opportunism, lack of strategic capability and fragmented global laws. Research limitations/implications: This study could inform global cryptocurrency regulation discussions, sharing a developing country's views on balancing the government, central banks, the financial sector and public interests. This could guide countries to consider cryptocurrency adoption in similar situations. This could affect the cryptocurrency market, impacting demand, supply and investor trust in Pakistan. Practical implications: The study has implications for policy making officials. The research aims to offer valuable insights to the SBP and other regulatory authorities, helping them identify potential risks and create an effective regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. Social implications: The study has implications for society in knowing about the volatile nature of cryptos and anonymity of their issuers, which poses regulatory constraints. This then implies its harmfullness to its traders and the huge losses that may arise from their trading due to its volatile nature. Until recently, studies of sensemaking typically focused on seasoned practitioners, and there is limited understanding about how sensemaking takes place in start-ups that are run by novice entrepreneurs. Drawing on a case study of a biotechnology firm in China, we investigate how three novice entrepreneurs were able to transcend liabilities of newness and smallness by drawing on guidance from internal and external stakeholders. Purpose: In recent years, augmented reality (AR) has shown its potential to assist various construction activities. Its use commonly requires additional refinement to be integrated into the building information modeling (BIM) process. Nevertheless, few studies have investigated AR implementation in BIM-enabled projects because of numerous challenges related to its implementation. This study aims to investigate the implementation of AR in construction and identify the critical mechanisms for implementing BIM-AR successfully. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed methodology was adopted for this study. First, this work presents a bibliometric analysis covering articles obtained from Scopus database published between 2000 and 2022. A sample size of 65 research papers pertinent to AR in construction was analyzed using VOSviewer software. Second, a participatory case study was conducted for a BIM-enabled project in China to gain insight into how BIM-AR implementation in construction is achieved. Findings: The findings from the bibliometric analysis show an increasing interest in AR research within construction. The results indicate that AR research focuses on four clusters: real-time communication, project management, construction activities and education. Findings from the case study provide an empirical experience of AR application scenarios in a BIM-enabled project. Concomitantly, 15 critical success factors that influence BIM-AR implementation were finally identified and demonstrated. Originality/value: This study provides a rich insight into the understanding and awareness of implementing AR. First, the findings are beneficial to construction practitioners and researchers because they provide a concentrated perspective of AR for emerging activities in the construction industry. Second, the results obtained from the case study could provide a useful guide for effectively implementing AR in a BIM-enabled construction project. Complementors play a crucial role in innovation ecosystems by contributing to the co-creation of the value proposition and its benefit enhancement. However, research on these actors and their interactions remains limited. Investigating eight Danish wind energy complementors, this embedded case study explores the complexity of their interactions through a mixed-method approach. Initial quantitative analysis is performed using topic modelling to inform the coding of the following qualitative analysis that maps the trends and evolution of complementors' interactions. The findings reveal that, despite an apparent unawareness or conscious dismissal of the competitive dynamic involved, most wind energy complementors engage in coopetitive interactions at some point, particularly with the focal firms. Purpose: Fast fashion brands in Asia are increasingly incorporating corporate social responsibility (CSR) into their business strategies in response to the mounting environmental and social concerns. The study aims to provide insights into the current landscape of CSR practices and communication within the Asian context through focusing on two prominent Asian brands to understand how these fashion brands articulate and convey their CSR activities on their respective websites. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a qualitative content analysis to critically evaluate the CSR communication used by Uniqlo and Shein, with the incorporation of signalling theory as a theoretical framework to discuss the observed elements on their websites. Findings: The results indicate that the two Asian fast fashion brands actively engage in CSR's environmental and social dimensions. Notably, the social dimension is more prominently expressed on both brands' websites than on other dimensions. Through a nuanced interplay of colour, imagery and keywords, these Asian fast fashion brands strategically signify their commitment to environmental stewardship and stakeholder well-being. Originality/value: This study fills a gap in the literature by examining CSR programs on Asian-owned fast fashion brands' websites through the application of signalling theory. Optimizing the order picking operations is indispensable for warehouses that promise a high customer service level. While many areas for improvement have been identified and studied in the literature, a large gap remains between academia and practice. To help with closing this gap, we perform a case‐study in collaboration with a spare‐parts warehouse in Belgium. In this study, we optimize the order picking operations of the company, using the actual warehouse layout and real order data. A state‐of‐the‐art online integrated order batching, picker routing and batch scheduling algorithm is adapted to consider multiple real‐life constraints. More specifically, the dynamic arrival of new orders is considered, and a capacity constraint on the sorting installation should be respected. Furthermore, a new waiting strategy is studied in which order pickers can temporarily postpone certain orders, as combining them with possible future order arrivals may allow for more efficient overall picking performance. Finally, the performance of the current operating policy is compared with that of both a seed batching heuristic and our metaheuristic algorithm by use of an ANOVA analysis. The results indicate that the number of order pickers can be reduced by 12.5% if the new optimization algorithm is used, accompanied by an improvement in the offered customer service level. Objectives: Transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive (TGE) persons experience pregnancies and have abortions, yet abortion care remains rooted in a gender binary, often centering the needs, experiences, and challenges of cisgender women. Despite guidance supporting gender-affirming sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH), barriers for TGE people seeking abortions persist. We conducted an exploratory case study with key informants to understand their perception of TGE abortion seekers' needs with specific considerations for those in restrictive abortion settings. Methods: Qualitative interviews focused on gender-affirming care and abortion provision were conducted with U.S.-based key informant clinicians (n = 4) who could provide powerful insights into gaps and experiences faced by TGE individuals. Participants were eligible if they currently or previously provided abortions and had experience practicing gender-affirming care. Interviews focused on informants' perceptions of TGE patients' needs when seeking abortions. Results: Findings highlight the unique barriers TGE patients face when seeking abortions, including lack of provider knowledge, in-clinic stigmatization, and gender marginalization. It is notable that key informants who practiced in abortion-protective political environments have greater access to resources to implement gender-affirming care than those in restrictive contexts. Results are summarized in a clinical recommendations document which provides an accessible starting point for clinicians to begin building gender-inclusive abortion spaces. Conclusions: It is necessary to further understand barriers facing TGE abortion seekers and integrate recommendations and emerging evidence into abortion practice. This study contributes to a growing knowledge base which emphasizes the need for inclusive abortion spaces and highlights key considerations for improving access and quality for TGE abortions seekers. Natural disasters can have serious physical and psychological effects on people. The impact of events on individuals may also differ from person to person. People try to make sense of events according to their characteristics. This research aimed to describe what students experienced after the earthquake (06 February 2023, Turkey) by conducting qualitative research with gifted students after the earthquake disaster. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with 17 gifted individuals aged between 10 and 17 (M = 13.35, Sd = 2.80), and interview questions prepared by the researchers were directed to the participants. After the research, qualitative interviews and thematic analysis were conducted. According to this thematic analysis, two main themes were identified. These themes were defined as 'Waking up with an earthquake' and 'After the earthquake'. Moral cognition has largely been studied via dilemmas in which making a utilitarian choice causes instrumental harm (negative dimension). Studies of utilitarianism link this behavior with socioemotional unresponsiveness. However, there is a positive dimension of utilitarianism in which one sacrifices the good of oneself or close others for the overall welfare. We measured utilitarian choices multidimensionally in a patient with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), incorporating dilemmas accounting for negative and positive dimensions. Despite socioemotional deficits our patient was highly utilitarian in the positive, dimension of utilitarianism. AbstractThis study examines the sustainable development approaches implemented by global trade fair organizers (TFOs). Six TFOs, including venue- and non-venue-bound organizers, were selected based on their revenue rankings. This study considers the environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability as major categories and segments them into 12 detailed items. The results indicate that most of the TFOs under study have a strong track record of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. However, strategies differ depending on TFOs’ venue ownership. Non-venue-bound organizers focus on policies that can be implemented during events, whereas venue-bound organizers are likely to adopt strategies within the venue. This study has both theoretical and practical implications for TFOs striving to achieve global competitiveness by adopting sustainability strategies. This study contributes to the literature by considering comprehensive sustainability dimensions and provides insights for further research and policy development in the exhibition industry. This research aims to explore more efficient machine learning (ML) algorithms with better performance for short-term forecasting. Up-to-date literature shows a lack of research on selecting practical ML algorithms for short-term forecasting in real-time industrial applications. This research uses a quantitative and qualitative mixed method combining two rounds of literature reviews, a case study, and a comparative analysis. Ten widely used ML algorithms are selected to conduct a comparative study of gas warning systems in a case study mine. We propose a new assessment visualization tool: a 2D space-based quadrant diagram can be used to visually map prediction error assessment and predictive performance assessment for tested algorithms. Overall, this visualization tool indicates that LR, RF, and SVM are more efficient ML algorithms with overall prediction performance for short-term forecasting. This research indicates ten tested algorithms can be visually mapped onto optimal (LR, RF, and SVM), efficient (ARIMA), suboptimal (BP-SOG, KNN, and Perceptron), and inefficient algorithms (RNN, BP_Resilient, and LSTM). The case study finds results that differ from previous studies regarding the ML efficiency of ARIMA, KNN, LR, LSTM, and SVM. This study finds different views on the prediction performance of a few paired algorithms compared with previous studies, including RF and LR, SVM and RF, KNN and ARIMA, KNN and SVM, RNN and ARIMA, and LSTM and SVM. This study also suggests that ARIMA, KNN, LR, and LSTM should be investigated further with additional prediction error assessments. Overall, no single algorithm can fit all applications. Background: Emergency Departments (ED) staff, including nurses and physicians, are most directly involved in the care of people who use unregulated substances, and are ideally positioned to provide harm reduction interventions. Conceptualizing the ED as a complex adaptive system, this paper examines how ED staff experience opioid-specific harm reduction provision and engage in harm reduction practice, including potential facilitators and barriers to engagement. Methods: Using a mixed methods approach, ED nurses and physicians completed a self-administered staff survey (n = 99) and one-on-one semi-structured interviews (n = 15). Five additional interviews were completed with clinical leaders. Survey data were analyzed to generate descriptive statistics and to compute scale scores. De-identified interview data were analyzed using a reflexive thematic analysis approach, which was informed by the theory of complex adaptive systems, as well as understandings of harm reduction as both a technical solution and a contextualized social practice. The final analysis involved mixed analysis through integrating both quantitative and qualitative data to generate overarching analytical themes. Results: Study findings illustrated that, within the context of the ED as a complex adaptive system, three interrelated contextual factors shape the capacity of staff to engage in harm reduction practice, and to implement the full range of opioid-specific harm reduction interventions available. These factors include opportunities to leverage benefits afforded by working collaboratively with colleagues, adequate preparation through receiving the necessary education and training, and support in helping patients establish connections for ongoing care. Conclusions: There is a need for harm reduction provision across all health and social care settings where people who use unregulated opioids access public sector services. In the context of the ED, attention to contextual factors including teamwork, preparedness, and connections is warranted to support that ED staff engage in harm reduction practice. Introduction: Healthcare systems worldwide are facing numerous challenges, such as an aging population, reduced availability of hospital beds, staff reductions and closure of emergency departments (ED). These issues can exacerbate crowding and boarding problems in the ED, negatively impacting patient safety and the work environment. In Sweden a hybrid of prehospital and intrahospital emergency care has been established, referred to in this article as Medical Emergency Team (MET), to meet the increasing demand for emergency care. MET, consisting of physicians and nurses, moving emergency care from EDs to patients' home. Physicians and nurses may encounter challenges in their healthcare work, such as limited resources for example medical equipment, sampling and examination, in unfamiliar varying home environments. There is a lack of knowledge about how these challenges can influence patient care. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the healthcare work of the METs when addressing patients' emergency care needs in their homes, with a focus on the METs reasoning and actions. Methods: Using a qualitative multiple case study design, two METs in southwestern Sweden were explored. Data were collected from September 2023 – January 2024 and consist of field notes from participant observations, short interviews and written reflections. A qualitative manifest content analysis with an inductive approach was used as the analysis method. Result: The result of this study indicates that physicians and nurses face several challenges in their daily work, such as recurring interruptions, miscommunication and faltering teamwork. Some of these problems may arise because physicians and nurses are not accustomed to working together as a team in a different care context. These challenges can lead to stress, which ultimately can expose patients to unnecessary risks. Conclusion: When launching a new service like METs, which is a hybrid of prehospital and intrahospital emergency care, it is essential to plan and prepare thoroughly to effectively address the challenges and obstacles that may arise. One way to prepare is through team training. Team training can help reduce hierarchical structures by enabling physicians and nurses to feel that they can contribute, collaborate, and take responsibility, leading to a more dynamic and efficient work environment. Practice-based case studies that describe learning from implementation are a useful source of evidence for policy makers, practitioners and researchers. Despite the value of narratives developed in context as a form of experiential or applied evidence, little is known about appropriate qualitative review and synthesis methods to deal with multiple practice-based case studies. This paper reports on a methodological study to develop and pilot a synthesis method using a sample of community wellbeing case studies focused on interventions to improve community infrastructure. The study was conducted in four interlinked phases: (i) literature review to scope synthesis methods (ii) piloting search and selection methods to identify a sample of relevant practice-based case studies that reported experiential learning (iii) undertaking cross case analysis and qualitative synthesis based on framework analysis methods (iv) review and reflection to produce a summative account of the method and agreed definition. The main output from the study was a staged approach to qualitative synthesis of practice-based case studies based on seven steps, which move from identification of a conceptual framework through to producing a narrative report. The potential transferability of this approach and its application in research and policy are critically discussed. Synthesis of case studies derived from community-based interventions could address knowledge gaps in the formal evidence base. While further methodological development is warranted, it is argued that study results form a credible qualitative framework for synthesising practice-based evidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The implementation of evidence-informed policies and practices across systems is a complex, multifaceted endeavor, often requiring the mobilization of multiple organizations from a range of contexts. In order to facilitate this process, policy makers, innovation developers and service deliverers are increasingly calling upon intermediaries to support implementation, yet relatively little is known about precisely how they contribute to implementation. This study examines the role of intermediaries supporting the implementation of evidence-informed policies and practices in the mental health and addictions systems of New Zealand, Ontario, Canada and Sweden. Methods: Using a comparative case study methodology and taking an integrated knowledge translation approach, we drew from established explanatory frameworks and implementation theory to address three questions: (1) Why were the intermediaries established? (2) How are intermediaries structured and what strategies do they use in systems to support the implementation of policy directions? and (3) What explains the lack of use of particular strategies? Data collection included three site visits, 49 key informant interviews and document analysis. Results: In each jurisdiction, a unique set of problems (e.g., negative events involving people with mental illness), policies (e.g., feedback on effectiveness of existing policies) and political events (e.g., changes in government) were coupled by a policy entrepreneur to bring intermediaries onto the decision agenda. While intermediaries varied greatly in their structure and characteristics, both the strategies they used and the strategies they didn't use were surprisingly similar. Specifically it was notable that none of the intermediaries used strategies that directly targeted the public, nor used audit and feedback. This emerged as the principle policy puzzle. Our analysis identified five reasons for these strategies not being employed: (1) their need to build/maintain healthy relationships with policy actors; (2) their need to build/maintain healthy relationships with service delivery system actors; (3) role differentiation with other system actors; (4) perceived lack of "fit" with the role of policy intermediaries; and (5) resource limitations that preclude intensive distributed (program-level) work. Conclusion: Policy makers and implementers must consider capacity to support implementation, and our study identifies how intermediaries can be developed and harnessed to support the implementation process. Dairy mountain farms are economically disadvantaged due to small farm sizes and high production costs. This situation was exacerbated firstly by the opening of the market linked to the abolition of milk quotas; secondly by the rising prices due to the energy crisis due to covid 19 and the war in Ukraine. However, these farms are important for the preservation of traditional landscapes, the economy of these areas and the offered ecosystem services, especially when they are managed extensively. The objective of this research is to understand if mountain dairy farms are economically sustainable and competitive through the analysis of a case study. The economic analysis takes into account the production cost of milk, profitability, and some economic indicators using accounting data. The results show that the farm profitability is decreasing, and the costs are unsustainable. As a consequence, more efficient policy support is needed to overcome this crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, 18 scientists from China and other countries were selected for consideration as case studies of 'strategic scientists'. They were chosen according to their involvement in science and technology policy decision-making, development of key and advantageous fields, creation of new disciplines, construction of academic traditions, and intersections between science and industry. On this basis, we found that the growth paths of strategic scientists can be divided into three phases: as talented young scientists, as gatekeepers in related disciplines or research fields, and as consultants for national science and technology decision-making. Based on this trichotomy, we explored the characteristics of strategic scientists and the conditions required for their growth in each phase. Codesign is a set of practices that facilitate collaboration in the design process, leading to shared investment in outcomes. This article reviews three cases applying visual art: 1) studying urban innovation in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 2) convening people with lived healthcare experiences, and 3) developing cartoons for workshops on climate resilience. The results suggest that applied visual art has great potential to support codesign, specifically by signalling a novel procedure, motivating sideways thinking, inviting interpretation, and cultivating flexible outputs. Prolonged hospital stays in Nigerian teaching hospitals pose a significant challenge to patient care and hospital management, exacerbated by socio-economic and systemic factors. It underscores the critical role of medical social workers as they navigate complex healthcare landscapes to mitigate the adverse effects of extended hospitalizations. This paper explores the issue of transformation and redevelopment of existing industrial land in Shanghai under the background of rapid development of emerging industries in the comprehensive innovation stage. It analyzes the current situation of Shanghai’s existing industrial land, policy background, development models, and their impact on transformation development. The paper first reviews the current status and development trends of Shanghai’s industrial land, clarifying the necessity and urgency of the redevelopment of existing industrial land. Secondly, through a case study of an industrial land in Pudong, it analyzes in detail the basic situation of the plot, the owner’s demand for transformation and development, key issues in the transformation and development of the plot, the economic feasibility of project development, and the summary of planning. Summarizing the findings through the case study, the paper further analyzes the difficulties in the transformation process of Shanghai’s existing industrial land, including the impact of economic factors, the scarcity of industrial resource introduction, and the difficulty of balancing interests, and proposes countermeasures and suggestions, such as enriching diversified financing paths, guiding with strong supervision and weak constraints through classified policies, gathering industrial resources, and building a special transaction matching platform. In 2019, the Chinese government put forward the concept of social co-governance in the field of emergency management. This paper discusses whether the adjustment in the governance concept promotes public participation in emergency management practices and what the mechanisms are to achieve successful public participation in a wildfire emergency. Taking the Beibei wildfire in Chongqing in 2022 as a study case, this paper establishes the public participation mechanisms for wildfire rescue and management with a qualitative case study method. The result shows that adjustments to emergency management concepts and the pressure of wildfire governance make local governments and commanders seek help from the public; key persons and informal networks play an important role in public participation in a wildfire emergency; and constructing social memory in social networks, whether government-led or public-organized, is an important way to enhance public participation in wildfire governance. Our findings, grounded in the reality of the growing complexity of wildfires, provide useful lessons for future wildfire governance in other provinces in China, as well as valuable references for other countries or regions. The traditional case study has been used as a learning tool for the past 100 years, and in our program, graduate physiology students are presented with a real-world scenario and must determine the diagnosis and treatment of the patient. We found that students defaulted to memorization of disease with treatment and bypassed gaining an understanding of the mechanistic physiology behind disease and treatment. To adjust our student's approach, we developed a novel way to enhance student learning. To accomplish this shift from memorization to physiological mastery, we created the Inverted Case Study. This approach diverges from the traditional model in that students are given the diagnosis and treatment beforehand and are tasked with explaining the actual physiology of the case. In this way, students can no longer rely on the memorization of symptoms-disease-treatment but rather gain a solid understanding of the physiological mechanisms of the disease since that is the focus of the Inverted Case Study Technique. The Inverted Case Study approach is an effective approach to apply and hone critical thinking skills. This study aimed to shed light on the initial-stage bereavement experiences of an individual bereaved by suicide, at three months from the loss of his spouse to suicide. A semi-structured in-depth interview was conducted with the individual, a man in his thirties. The data were analyzed using qualitative assimilation analysis, based on the Assimilation Model and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES). The APES ratings of the interview revealed that the individual's bereavement was associated with the earlier stages of APES (all scoring under 3.5). In addition, the swift and frequent fluctuations in the APES ratings gave indications that the bereavement was unstable and complicated. It is suggested that mental health professionals could use APES to evaluate suicide bereavement and take note of the APES evaluations in clinical interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
