The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of preservice minority music teachers at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). Six undergraduate music education majors at two MSIs classified as Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) completed field observations as a part of their music education requirements. I conducted individual interviews with each participant to uncover how preservice music teachers who attend MSIs describe their experiences as they matriculate through a music education program. Data were analyzed and coded to generate three themes: (a) stressful demands of the music education major, (b) immersion in school settings develops confidence, and (c) critical faculty mentoring and peer support. The experiences of preservice music teachers at MSIs are shared along with implications and recommendations for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Training in ethical competencies is perceived with special interest among the objectives of health education. The dimensions of the person such as integrity, autonomy and dignity influence the choice of interventions, but the different specialties of the health sciences conceive these dimensions with different perspectives depending on the clinical setting. These divergences can be detected during the first years of undergraduate studies, and it is important to know the professional bias and its possible causes. Materials and Methods: A procedure was developed through case‐based learning (CBL) to assess various characteristics of decision‐making during the early stages of student training. A semi‐quantitative method was designed based on the narrative responses of a case with ethical implications in the field of gender violence. The method was applied to 294 undergraduate students in nursing (95), physiotherapy (109) and dentistry (90) from the Faculty of Health Sciences of a Spanish university. A frequency analysis of the narrative responses of the students to the proposed case was carried out, using the chi‐square test to determine any association between the variables studied: gender, specialty and ethical knowledge. Results: Four types of response categories were detected, as a result of combining the personal conversation, report to legal authority or require assistance of other teams. The most common option in dentists is conversation only, while physical therapists include the assistance of other teams. In nursing, a balance is observed between both possibilities. The results show that student responses differ significantly among specialties and also differ significantly according to test scores on ethical knowledge. However, no significant differences were found between the responses provided by men and women. Conclusion: Most of the health sciences students highly valued their own capacity for dialogue and reflection to approach situations with complex ethical dimensions. We consider that case‐based learning (CBL), in combination with narrative analysis is a valid means of evaluating the professional ethical competencies of students in health sciences careers applied to a common goal. Even though economics learning in Senior High Schools has been able to increase students’ economic knowledge, their economic behavior is still far from being appropriate, whereas their concern for others, the environment, and even for themselves is lacking. The aims of this study were to apply caring economics learning (CEL) at senior high schools in Indonesia and to observe the internalization of caring economics attitude among the students through action research. It contained instructional package consisting of lesson plans, student worksheets, instructional materials, instructional media, and learning assessment in the form of situational judgment tests (SJTs). The CEL employed case method that was implemented in three learning activities. The data were obtained through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The study has revealed that the CEL was assessed by the observers as good and excellent. The success of caring attitude development on the students was reflected in the number of students showing caring attitudes, which increased from the first learning activity (52%) to the last one (95%). Based on the SJT-1, 55.56% of students achieved high scores and 44.44% had moderate scores. Based on the SJT-2, the number of students with high scores increased significantly (77.78%), while the number of students who had moderate scores decreased considerably (22.22%).

The article is devoted to the important issues of modern education and increasing the level of modern medical professionals’ training. The article covers the use of educational cases for practical classes in the discipline «Medical and Biological Physics» in natural sciences cycle for students of the first year of study in specialty “Medicine». The authors present the general structure of the case, which is used to consider most of the topics in practical classes. Pedagogical research (case studies and student interviews) found that students are willing to work in a team, often resorting to in-depth search for information to look more effective as a doctor, which in the future allows them to participate in conferences by presenting scientific reviews; willing to test a decision-making model that can be used in real life; gain confidence that the acquired knowledge will allow them to orientate themselves quickly in clinical cases that will be considered in the future. Such techniques also help students to move easily from the techniques used in secondary education to professional oriented teaching methods. The article presents the results of the survey on the effectiveness of the use of the case method and its perception by students. The results of the study allow the authors to conclude that the consideration of a possible clinical case in the study of clinical disciplines in senior years allows medical students to master a sufficient level of professional competencies in the study of fundamental disciplines, including «Medical and Biological Physics». The case designed to study the course of medical and biological physics, given its specifics, may contain the following types of questions of a professionally oriented nature: 1) manifestations of physical phenomena and processes in the human body and the possibility of their study; 2) basic methods of determining physical quantities in medical practice; 3) principles of functioning of devices in diagnostic and medical practice; 4) the consequences of the interaction of physical factors with biological environments; 5) prevention of adverse effects of external physical factors on the human body and counteraction to occupational diseases. Problem-based learning in general and the case method in particular is a good tactical pedagogical tool that plays a strategic role in the training of a competent specialist and is adequately perceived in the student environment. Students are willing to work on cases to become more effective in the role of a doctor, which in the future allows them to participate in conferences by presenting scientific reviews. Such techniques also help students to move easily from the techniques used in secondary education to professional oriented teaching methods.

The case method is a widely used education tool that puts students in front and centre of the learning process. In business studies, it brings a piece of the real world into the classroom to facilitate elevated thinking skills among students, develop a deeper understanding of business problems, and arrive at better solutions. This article takes a closer look at the case method's two main pillars: preparation and analysis. Also, it outlines how discussions and participation can encourage intellectual exchange and empower students to make critical decisions. Since the onus of learning is on the students, and the instructor is merely a facilitator, they must understand the intent of the method to make it work to their benefit. The urgency of addressing climate change challenges architectural educators to employ methods for cultivating stewardship in emerging designers by integrating a broad array of performance domains into the curriculum. Voices from the Field is an experiential applied professional practice course that employs cases pursuing high performance building certifications to demonstrate the interrelationship of technical, organizational, behavioral, and operational domains during the process of taking buildings from concept to realization. This study contributes to the literature on teaching with case-based pedagogical methods by employing qualitative data analysis of four sets of course deliverables produced by students who studied two Living Building Challenge (LBC) projects. The findings indicate that students gained an understanding of the integrated nature of design, and an awareness of the necessity of "Backwards Design" and "Tactical Materiality" to meet contemporary climate challenges. Additionally, students increased their understanding of the strategies, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to apply their sustainable ideals to real-world dilemmas in order to build a more just and sustainable society. The article addresses the mathematical training for engineers, who require new skills to face social challenges and demands, which increasingly revolve around STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The literature shows the importance of integrating STEM, from the first levels, using mathematical modeling as a bridge between disciplines, to prepare them in the study of problems, solutions and proposals that respond to the needs of the external environment. The objective was to characterize the STEM skills of first-year engineering students, when they integrate knowledge in solving real cases, using mathematical modeling as the basis of the learning process, in collaborative workspaces. A didactic sequence was designed, in algebra and calculus topics, using the case method as a teaching strategy. The methodology was quantitative, through content analysis of their productions. Four engineering college careers participated (civil, industrial, informatics and construction), where a random sample was selected, corresponding to students from informatics and construction. Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and main components were used in the data analysis. The main results showed that students exceed, on average, the level of competent in STEM skills, but continue to present weaknesses in: interpreting mathematical solutions, projecting the model and designing solutions for engineering, which is attributed to difficulties in representing in 3D, applying geometric properties. The article is primarily aimed at considering the essence and significance of innovative methods of teaching economic disciplines in higher education institutions, their use in professional activities with students during educational work. The article considers innovative methods of learning in the teaching of economic disciplines used in the system of modern educational process in higher education institutions of Ukraine. The peculiarities of forms and methods of innovative learning are defined, the specifics of their use during classes with students in economic disciplines are covered. The author specifies application of such methods, forms and methods of educational work as: audiovisual method of training; analysis of errors, collisions, incidents; discussion with the invitation of specialists; brainstorming; «decision tree»; business (role-playing) game (students try the role of a teacher in economics, an accountant, auditor, a broker, manager, etc.); «take a position»; Socratic dialogue; interview method; public speaking; commenting, evaluating (or self-evaluating) of the participants’ actions; training ground; method of analysis and diagnosis of the situation; method of cooperative learning; problematic methods; partially search methods; research methods; method of projects; modeling; trainings; the program-role method of generating ideas; work in small groups; «competence» game; simulation games; PRES formula, etc. The essence of the case method, its principles, structure, features, influence on the formation of qualitative characteristics of the future specialist in economics is covered. It is emphasized the use of new technologies in learning, such as multimedia, computers, etc. and the combination of innovative methods with classical, traditional ones.

The article is devoted to actual problem of clip thinking of generation Z. The goal of research is to determine the most effective methods of working with clip thinking taking into account the peculiarities of information perception by modern students. It covers phenomenon of clip thinking, its characteristics and origins. Positive and negative features of clip thinking are highlighted, as well as effective methods of university educational process applying having the trend of clip-based consumption of info by students. The authors conclude that clip thinking is a natural process: it is necessary to work competently with this phenomenon of generation Z. Its shown, that vast selection of digital tools is changing lifestyle of young generation, but multitasking, responsiveness, high degree of adaptability characterize modern students. The authors concluded that its necessary to form students' analytical and conceptual thinking in combination with clip thinking. Its not worth changing students or fight against clip thinking as well as to act according to old methodology of educational process. Modern students need in interesting cases of thinking efficiency, multitasking that requires active action. Specificity of case method application of teaching was substantiated empirically (including observation, experiment, survey), it develops creativity, increases the level of analytical and critical thinking, allows to work with a large amount of information, helps to study proposed business situations, analyzes data and make the respective decision. Its important to practice educational and search methods in a dialogue mode of learning process, construct situations, interactivity, mobility, frequent changes, multitasking. Clip thinking should be managed competently, by using its positive characteristics and preparing effective studying programs engaging relevant online and offline technologies.

The article is devoted to the presentation and analysis of innovative methods of teaching IT discipline. The goals, content, methods and means of teaching the discipline "Workshop on IT Management", developed at the Financial University, are considered. The presented methodological innovations can be divided into two types: innovations in the content of the discipline, as well as innovations in the teaching methods of the discipline. The first type of innovations is based on the architectural approach, Architecture Development Method from TOGAF, as well as approaches to the analysis and design of an IT management system. Innovations of the second type are based on the integrated integration of the following approaches into the teaching methodology of the discipline: the project approach, the case method, adaptive case management, and design thinking methods. The article demonstrates the main areas of application of these approaches in the process of teaching the discipline and guiding educational projects on business transformation. The problems of forming a business transformation case based on the use of IT in the form of an educational project carried out by a team of students are identified. The most effective educational methods are presented to eliminate the identified problems. The analysis carried out within the framework of this study made it possible to identify which methodological techniques allow achieving the stated goals of the discipline.

Resumen: El aprendizaje del residente se realiza a través del trabajo que desarrolla en diferentes contextos laborales como: la planta del hospital, el quirófano, el centro de salud, la participación en congresos o en comisiones, etc. Aun así, este desempeño tiene que complementarse con metodologías que conlleven actividades específicas para desarrollar aquellas competencias que no se pueden trabajar de forma planificada y explícita en el día a día como el pensamiento crítico, el trabajo cooperativo, la gestión de las emociones, etc. Más allá de las clásicas sesiones clínicas de casos o bibliográficas, existen otras metodologías activas dirigidas a favorecer estos aprendizajes para alcanzar una formación integral, como el aprendizaje basado en problemas, el método de caso y de proyectos, los incidentes críticos, la gamificación, los juegos de rol o el libro del residente. Destacamos las competencias que cada una de ellas ayudan a adquirir.Dedicamos un apartado a las actividades profesionales confiables (APROC) o entrustable professional activities (EPAs), por tratarse de un enfoque metodológico operativo que facilita la puesta en práctica de la formación y evaluación basada en competencias a través de tareas o actividades complejas. La combinación de metodologías complementarias con las actividades clínicas completa el mapa para adquirir las competencias requeridas en los programas de formación especializada. De este modo, se pretende ayudar al formador a planificar la formación del residente de acuerdo a su perfil competencial. Abstract: The resident's learning is developed through the work in different settings such as: the hospital ward, the primary health center, the operating room, the participation in congresses or in committees, etc. Even so, this performance has to be complemented with methodologies that involve specific activities to develop those competencies that cannot be worked on a day-to-day basis (critical thinking, cooperative work, emotion management, etc.). We present other methodologies aimed to achieve those competencies, such as problem-based learning, the projects method, the case method, and the critical incidents, gamification, role-playing games or the resident's logbook, highlighting the competencies that each of them help to acquire.We dedicate a section to entrustable professional activities (EPAs), an operational methodological approach that facilitates the implementation of competency-based medical education and evaluation through clinical activities. The combination of complementary methodologies with clinical activities completes the map to acquire the competencies required in specialized training and guide the tutor in order to plan the training of the specialist.

Introduction. The study is devoted to investigation of methods to integrate “hard” and “soft” skills of law students. This approach is necessary for teaching students to make decisions in situations of value and norm uncertainty, which require the integration of law and morality, general cultural and professional competencies. The public use of hate speech is chosen as an example of a value-ambiguous problem. This problem involves the search for a certain balance of public and private interests, the right to freedom of expression and protection against discrimination, insult, stigmatization, the right to respect for private and family life. Materials and Methods. 62 students of legal specialities and areas of training were involved in the case study. Case materials were structured according to the levels of educational goals in accordance with Bloom’s classic taxonomy. The case is devoted to the analysis of the controversial commentary of Savva Terentyev. Results. The use of the case-method for decision-making under conditions of value-normative uncertainty (using the example of counteracting hate speech) made it possible to integrate the general cultural and professional competencies of law students, to involve students, who do not usually participate in discussions, in active group work. However, there are limitations to the use of the case method for integrating “hard” and “soft” skills: preparation for the lesson is resource-intensive for both teacher and students; case materials quickly become obsolete and require constant updating and processing; the choice of material and its presentation in the classroom require a special pedagogical tact and a clear arrangement of axiological accents. Discussion and Conclusion. The results can be used to develop educational cases where general cultural and professional competencies of law students can be integrated, as well as to teach students how to make decisions in the face of value and norm uncertainty and to carry out personal and professional development.

Background and Aim: Quality of care in the health system is one of the most important issues and one of the most important indicators in organizational accreditation. Use of managerial principles, such as the division of labor among nurses, can affect the quality of care. Materials and Methods: This was a randomized double-blind clinical trial which included 44 nurses and 59 patients in 4 CCU wards. The intervention included 3 sessions of 2-hour workshops and then implementing the two above-mentioned care methods for the patients. After the intervention and at the time of discharge, the quality of care provided was assessed from the patientschr('39') point of view by means of quality care patient scale. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results showed after the intervention, the mean values for general quality of patient care in the primary group and case method group were (14.2 ± 1.9) and (11.2 ± 2.8) respectively. Also the quality of professional care in the primary group and case method group were (18.2 ± 2.2) and (3.5 ± 14.2) respectively. The priority of the competence approach aimed at developing professional competency of higher education students reflects the labour market need for graduates with the skills required by their speciality and relevant to the interrelated disciplines. In the case of law students, such skills include awareness of both domestic and foreign legal systems, as well as full communicative competence in the foreign language they are going to use. A key component of foreign language communicative competence is pragmatic competence—that is, knowledge about how a foreign language is used appropriately in a legal context. The research conducted contributes to the issue of pragmatic competence training by means of a practice-oriented method—that is, the case method. The significance of the case method is determined by the twofold goal of developing pragmatic competence via pseudo-real legal situations that provide students with legal knowledge, as well as stimulate them to be effective communicators in the legal sphere. The study took place at SPbPU and involved 120 s-year law students. The experiment conducted was aimed at comparing the case method and traditional methods used for teaching Legal English, particularly the first legal advice strategy—a component of pragmatic competence. A specific feature of the experiment was that it was organized in the form of distance learning. To collect and analyse the data of the study, a qualitative and a quantitative method were applied. The results of the study showed a high efficiency of the case method for fostering pragmatic competence in an ESP course for law students in comparison with traditional methods, which were not very efficient. Besides, the experiment showed that an on-line format may be an adequate methodological means of effectively achieving the goal in a foreign language training for professional needs in a course with a time limit.

Many view music teacher education as a locus for socially just transformation of music education through the development of preservice teacher agency and identity development. However, few have directly examined values in music teacher preparation programs, and values are implicit in agency. The purpose of this exploratory, intrinsic case study was to investigate the visible values in music education courses at one institution to add a new dimension to research and practice. We collected data from four instructor and five undergraduate participants through observations, interviews, and syllabus review. Themes of critical thinking, agency, student centeredness, positive teacher-student relationships, and skills and knowledge for teaching emerged from the data. Findings indicate that values may be relative in practice despite shared language among preservice teachers and music teacher educators.
