Background: Changes in migration patterns that have occurred in recent decades, both quantitative, with an increase in the number of immigrants, and qualitative, due to different causes of migration (work, family reunification, asylum seekers and refugees) require constant updating of the analysis of how immigrants access health services. Understanding of the existence of changes in use patterns is necessary to adapt health services to the new socio-demographic reality. The aim of this study is to describe the scientific evidence that assess the differences in the use of health services between immigrant and native populations. Methods: A systematic review of the electronic database MEDLINE (PubMed) was conducted with a search of studies published between June 2013 and February 2016 that addressed the use of health services and compared immigrants with native populations. MeSH terms and key words comprised Health Services Needs and Demands/Accessibility/Disparities/Emigrants and Immigrants/Native/Ethnic Groups. The electronic search was supplemented by a manual search of grey literature. The following information was extracted from each publication: context of the study (place and year), characteristics of the included population (definition of immigrants and their sub-groups), methodological domains (design of the study, source of information, statistical analysis, variables of health care use assessed, measures of need, socio-economic indicators) and main results. Results: Thirty-six publications were included, 28 from Europe and 8 from other countries. Twenty-four papers analysed the use of primary care, 17 the use of specialist services (including hospitalizations or emergency care), 18 considered several levels of care and 11 assessed mental health services. The characteristics of immigrants included country of origin, legal status, reasons for migration, length of stay, different generations and socio-demographic variables and need. In general, use of health services by the immigrants was less than or equal to the native population, although some differences between immigrants were also identified. Conclusions: This review has identified that immigrants show a general tendency towards a lower use of health services than native populations and that there are significant differences within immigrant sub-groups in terms of their patterns of utilization. Further studies should include information categorizing and evaluating the diversity within the immigrant population.

RESUMO: Características físico-químicas em maracujazeiro afetadas por épocas de colheita. As características físico-químicas dos frutos possuem grande importância para o melhoramento genético do maracujazeiro, pois permitem avaliar as propriedades organolépticas dos frutos a fim de se garantir a qualidade para o mercado da fruta fresca e para a indústria. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características físico-químicas dos frutos de 26 genótipos de maracujazeiro azedo (Passiflora edulis Sims) cultivados no Distrito Federal, Brasil, em duas épocas de colheita. Frutos colhidos em Abril apresentaram maior peso, comprimento longitudinal e diâmetro equatorial de fruto; razão entre comprimento longitudinal e diâmetro equatorial; espessura e peso da casca; número de sementes por fruto; peso, rendimento, pH, proteína, açúcar redutor, umidade e cinzas da polpa. Frutos colhidos em Março mostraram maiores teores de sólidos solúveis totais (SST), acidez titulável (AT) e açúcar redutor. Frutos com formato ovalado, baixos valores de pH (2,40 a 2,98) e altos valores de TA (3,70 a 4,50) indicam adequação para o uso na indústria de sucos. MAR20#15 apresentou as melhores características para o uso industrial na primeira época de colheita: pH de 2,48; rendimento de polpa igual a 40,72%; e, juntamente com MAR20#40 e MAR20#2005, teor de SST de 13,25° Brix. Rubi Gigante (54.26%) mostrou o maior rendimento de polpa na segunda época de colheita. O maior comprimento de fruto foi observado para MAR20#19 (98.44 mm) enquanto o maior diâmetro de fruto foi apresentado por MAR20#24 (79.84 mm). YM FB100 (344.00) teve o maior número de sementes por fruto. As espessuras de casca observadas indicam maior resistência dos genótipos ao transporte a longas distâncias. Background: There is a gap between the number of patients requiring a renal allograft and the number of potential deceased donors (DD). One alternative is using allografts from non-related living donors (NRLD). Aim: To compare survival and complication of renal allograft recipients from DD and NRLD. Material and methods: Observational study of a cohort of renal allograft recipients. Of 253 transplants performed in a Chilean region between 1981 and 2003, 20 patients received and allograft from a NRLD. Graft and patient survival of these patients were compared with those of 93 patients receiving an allograft from a related living donor and 140 receiving it from a DD. Patients were followed for 10 years or until death or dialysis requirement. Results: No significant differences between groups in graft and patient survival, deaths with a functioning graft or return to dialysis were observed. Receptors of DD had more hospital admissions during the first years after receiving the graft, usually due to infections. Also a delayed graft function was more common among them. Glomerular filtration rate ten years after the graft was similar among the three groups. Conclusions: No differences in graft or patient survival was observed between patients receiving a renal allograft from NRLD, RLD or DD.

Vitamin A is an essential micronutrient throughout life. Its physiologically active metabolite retinoic acid (RA), acting through nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs), is a potent regulator of patterning during embryonic development, as well as being necessary for adult tissue homeostasis. Vitamin A deficiency during pregnancy increases risk of maternal night blindness and anemia and may be a cause of congenital malformations. Childhood Vitamin A deficiency can cause xerophthalmia, lower resistance to infection and increased risk of mortality. RA signaling appears to be essential for expression of genes involved in developmental hematopoiesis, regulating the endothelial/blood cells balance in the yolk sac, promoting the hemogenic program in the aorta-gonad-mesonephros area and stimulating eryrthropoiesis in fetal liver by activating the expression of erythropoietin. In adults, RA signaling regulates differentiation of granulocytes and enhances erythropoiesis. Vitamin A may facilitate iron absorption and metabolism to prevent anemia and plays a key role in mucosal immune responses, modulating the function of regulatory T cells. Furthermore, defective RA/RAR{alpha} signaling is involved in the pathogenesis of acute promyelocytic leukemia due to a failure in differentiation of promyelocytes. This review focuses on the different roles played by vitamin A/RA signaling in physiological and pathological mouse hematopoiesis duddurring both, embryonic and adult life, and the consequences of vitamin A deficiency for the blood system.

Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil contribute about 30 percent of world production of heavy and extra heavy crude oil, estimated at around 15 mb/d in 2012. Each of these three countries has a distinctive future production profile. Latin America will continue to run a surplus of heavy crude, but the supply of these types of grade will be increasingly restricted, either as a result of the natural decline in its fields, lack of investment, limited access to technology, political uncertainties or particular strategies in the energy sector leading to increasing domestic demand. This article explores some of the reasons behind the supply slowdown of heavy crude oil expected in each of these Latin American countries and some consequences in the international oil market over the next few years.

Poucos são os estudos relacionados à germinação de espécies de plantas daninhas tropicais, incluindo-se a de Tridax procumbens, apesar de sua importância como infestante em áreas de lavoura. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de luz e KNO3 sobre a germinação de sementes de T. procumbens em temperatura constante e alternada. Quatro subamostras de 75 sementes foram submetidas ao teste de germinação utilizando-se uma combinação fatorial de luz (escuro; fotoperíodo de 12 horas diárias de luz) e umedecimento do substrato com solução de KNO3 (0% de KNO3; 0,2% de KNO3) para os ensaios na temperatura de 25 °C constante e alternada de 15 ºC/35 ºC, em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado. Efetuou-se a contagem diária da germinação pela emissão da raiz primária, bem como as análises de porcentagem de germinação acumulada, velocidade de germinação e curva de germinação acumulada. Em temperatura constante, a luz contribuiu para aumentar a porcentagem e a velocidade de germinação, enquanto em temperaturas alternadas houve aumento na porcentagem e velocidade de germinação com a aplicação de KNO3, independentemente da presença ou ausência de luz. As curvas de germinação acumulada se ajustaram ao modelo logístico tanto a 25 ºC quanto a 15 ºC/35 ºC, demonstrando assincronia na germinação de sementes no tempo.There are few studies available on germination of tropical weed species, Tridax procumbens included, despite its importance as a crop weed. This study was carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Biophysics of Embrapa Cerrados, Planaltina, DF, to evaluate the effect of light and KNO3 on T. procumbens seed germination at constant and alternating temperatures. Four sub-samples of 75 seeds were submitted to a factorial combination of light (darkness; 12 daily hours of light photoperiod) and substrate moistened with KNO3 solution (0% of KNO3; 0.2% of KNO3) for the assays at 25 °C constant and 15 ºC/35 ºC alternating temperatures, arranged in a completely randomized experimental design. Seed germination was daily counted based on emission of primary roots, with accumulated germination percentage, germination speed and accumulated germination curve being evaluated. Light contributed to increase germination percentage and speed at constant temperature, while at alternating temperatures, increase of germination percentage and speed occurred with KNO3 application, regardless of the presence or absence of light. The accumulated germination curves at 25 ºC and 15 ºC/35 ºC were adjusted to the logistic model, showing seed germination asynchrony along time.
