113. Sanitizing of stainless steel surfaces in the food industry: Effect of gaseous ozone against pathogens and filamentous fungi.

Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the resistance of two pathogenic bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serotype Senftenberg), and three airborne food‐spoiling filamentous fungi (Hyphopichia burtonii, Penicillium nordicum, and Aspergillus brasiliensis ATCC 16404) to gaseous ozone on stainless steel. Tests were carried out by exposing inoculated tiles to gaseous ozone in a laboratorial chamber at concentrations up to 50 mg/L and at times up to 180 min (bacteria) or 300 min (filamentous fungi). For bacteria, the resistance to gaseous ozone of L. monocytogenes proved markedly higher than that of S. enterica. Their D‐values increased by seven times (from 27.3 to 200.7 min for the strain of L. monocytogenes studied; from 7.3 to 48.0 min for the Salmonella species studied) when the ozone concentration were reduced from 12 to 4 mg/L. For filamentous fungi, a substantial effect was observed only at 50 mg/L on single‐layered inocula: at these conditions, A. brasiliensis ATCC 16404 proved the most resistant strain to gaseous ozone, its D‐value (134.4 min) being higher than those registered for the tested strains of H. burtonii (9.9 min) and P. nordicum (17.1 min). The results demonstrated that the use of gaseous ozone as a sanitizing agent for environments and working surfaces seems to be a potential alternative to chemical sanitizers against the two pathogens studied, whereas it seemed effective against the three filamentous fungi studied only in limited circumstances. Abstract

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is characterized by the presence of hepatic steatosis and can be associated with fibrosis progression, development of cirrhosis and liver-related complications. Data on the prevalence of liver fibrosis and steatosis in HIV patients remain contradictory in resource-limited settings. We aimed to describe the prevalence and factors associated with liver fibrosis and steatosis in patients with HIV mono-infection under long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Methods: Clinicalassessment, fasting blood collection and liver stiffness measurement (LSM)/controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) by transient elastography were performed on the same day for this cross-sectional study (PROSPEC-HIV study; NCT02542020). Patients with viralhepatitis co-infection, ART-naïve or missing data were excluded. Liver fibrosis and steatosis were defined by LSM [greater than or equal to] 8.0 kPa and CAP [greater than or equal to] 248 dB/m respectively. HIV history, cumulative and current ART regimens were evaluated. Multivariate logistic regression models adjusted for age and gender were performed. Results: In total, 395 patients (60% female; median age of 45 (IQR, 35 to 52) years, body mass index = 25.7 (23.2 to 29.4) kg/[m.sup.2], alanine aminotransferase = 30 (23 to 42) IU/L, duration of ART for 7 (4 to 14) years) were included. LSM and CAP were reliable in 93% (n = 367) and 87% (n = 344) respectively. The prevalence of fibrosis and steatosis were 9% (95% confidence interval(CI), 7 to 13) and 35% (95% CI, 30 to 40) respectively. The following factors were associated with fibrosis (odds ratio (OR) (95% CI)): older age (per 10 years; 1.80 (1.27 to 2.55); p = 0.001) and CD4+ count Conclusion: Integrated strategies for preventing non-communicable diseases in people with HIV mono-infection are necessary to decrease the burden of liver diseases. Abstract

A psoríase é uma doença inflamatória crônica da pele e articulações, de natureza inflamatória e fortemente influenciada, sua etiologia ainda é desconhecida, mas sabe-se que sofre influência de fatores genéticos e ambientais. Seu quadro clínico é caracterizado pelo aparecimento de placas eritematosas, escamosas, pruriginosas ou dolorosas. Essas lesões têm afinidade por áreas como couro cabeludo, cotovelos e joelhos. Esta patologia apresenta imagens de melhora e piora, que estão relacionadas à ansiedade e à depressão, por se tratar de uma doença associada a um fator emocional. Nesse sentido, os portadores sentem-se alvo de julgamentos pelo estigma negativo que a doença pode trazer. O presente estudo tem como objetivo evidenciar o comprometimento que os pacientes portadores de psoríase têm na qualidade de vida e a importância do diagnóstico precoce. Configura-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura que visa sintetizar e analisar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes com psoríase. A busca foi realizada utilizando os descritores: saúde mental, diagnóstico, qualidade de vida e psoríase, inseridos nas bases de dados, Scielo, Google acadêmico e Lilacs, com critérios de exclusão e inclusão, com idiomas além do português, como o inglês.
