To effectively protect drinking water resources, a scientific assessment on site selection of River drinking water resources was carried out. Twenty - eight key factors including law, environmental quality, water resources assurance and environmental risk were selected, and based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a mathematical model of assessment system was established. The weight of factors was defined by the method of document data and expert questionnaire, and these weights were synthesized under single criterion. These influence factors were classified and quantized with laws, technical standards and statistical data. This paper discusses the mechanism and application of denitrification inhibition to the activity of sulfate - reducing bacteria in wastewater treatment of domestic and overseas oilfields. All factors affecting this process and shortcomings in the process were reviewed as well. It is suggested that the study on protein structure and environmental gene is important for the mechanism research, particularly for studying the effect of addition of inhibiting agents, such as nitrate and denitrifying bacteria, on the gene and protein structure of sulfate - reducing bacteria as well as the metabolism process. Abstract: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles co-doped with N and Fe were prepared via modified sol–gel process. The products were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It is shown that the prepared TiO2 particles were less than 10nm with narrow particle size distribution. The addition of MCM-41 caused the formation of Ti–O–Si bond which fixed the TiO2 on MCM-41 surface, thus restricted the agglomeration and growth of TiO2 particles. The photocatalytic performance in the degradation of methylene blue showed that N, Fe co-doped TiO2 exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity than doped sample with nitrogen or Fe3+ alone under both UV and visible light. N, Fe co-doping decreased the loss of doping N during the degradation reaction, thus increased the photocatalytic stability. It was also found that the nitridation time had significant influence on the photocatalytic activity of prepared TiO2 catalysts. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• An integrated method was adopted for prioritizing filler in bioretention system. • Different hydrological performances of bioretention systems were evaluated. • The impacts of rainfall conditions on LID's performances were quantified. • Suggestions about the optimal design of bioretention system were given. Bioretention systems have been widely constructed as important measures for the management of urban rainfall-runoff processes. However, the designs of bioretention systems are often questioned due to their limited focus on specific hydrological effects. In this study, nine experimental columns were designed under saturated conditions, and multiple hydrological performance indicators such as the outflow arrival time, peak flow arrival time, runoff reduction rate, and peak flow reduction rate, were quantified using artificial rainfall devices. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was then proposed to obtain the optimal bioretention system designs under different rainfall conditions. Results indicated that clay showed the best hydrological effect among the studied soil types, while slag had the worst effect on controlling runoff in the filling layer. Additionally, water-permeable materials benefited the stable performance of bioretention systems if they were used in the filling layer. Rainfall conditions greatly impacted the hydrological effects of the bioretention systems. These results provided clear guidance for the optimal design of bioretention systems, especially considering different hydrological performance indicators and rainfall conditions. • Elemental sulfur (S) aided biosolids composting stabilization was studied. • Addition of S facilitates the safe disposal of biosolids composting treatment. • S accelerates organic matter decomposition and reduces NH 3 emission. • S benefits endocrine disrupting chemicals degradation in biosolids. • S addition at ≤0.50% is suggested for composting stabilization of biosolids. In order to investigate the potential effect of sulfur (S) aided composting on NH 3 volatilization mitigation, bisphenol A (PBA) and estrogens (estrone, 17β-estradiol, estriol, and 17a-ethinylestradiol) degradation and biosolids stabilization, five treatments of S (i.e., 0, 0.25%, 0.50%, 1.0%, and 2.0%, dry weight basis) were applied to the mixtures of biosolids and wheat straw during the 50 days of composting stabilization process. Results implicated addition of S decreased alkalinity of compost system, mitigated NH 3 volatilization, facilitated degradation of bisphenol A and estrogen in biosolids, and improved biosolids stabilization. Compared to control, the S-added treatments reduced nitrogen loss by 29.39%–97.22%, and degraded PBA and estrogens in biosolids by 25.42–72.63% and 21.11–68.14%, respectively, with S additions in range of 0.25–2.0%. The livestock sector is responsible for a significant amount of wastewater globally. The microalgal-bacterial consortium (MBC) treatment has gained increasing attention as it is able to eliminate pollutants to yield value-added microalgal products. This review offers a critical discussion of the source of pollutants from livestock wastewater and the environmental impact of these pollutants. It also discusses the interactions between microalgae and bacteria in treatment systems and natural habitats in detail. The effects on MBC on the removal of various pollutants (conventional and emerging) are highlighted, focusing specifically on analysis of the removal mechanisms. Notably, the various influencing factors are classified into internal, external, and operating factors, and the mutual feedback relationships between them and the target (removal efficiency and biomass) have been thoroughly analysed. Finally, a wastewater recycling treatment model based on MBC is proposed for the construction of a green livestock farm, and the application value of various microalgal products has been analysed. Although the arsenic contamination and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) during composting have been studied separately, there is limited information on their interactions, particularly, the relationship between arsenic biotransformation genes (ABGs) and ARGs. Therefore, the present study used different forms of arsenic stress (organic and inorganic arsenic at 10 and 50 mg/kg) in pig manure and straw co-composting, to evaluate the effects of arsenic stress on microbial community structures, metabolic function, ABGs, and ARGs. The results showed that arsenic stress had different effects on different parameters and promoted the microbial formation of humic acid and the biodegradation of fulvic acid. Inorganic arsenic showed more rapid effects on microbial community structure, visible within about 20 days, while the effects of organic arsenic were later (about 45 days) due to the necessity of transformation. Moreover, the addition of organic roxarsone and inorganic arsenic resulted in higher expression of ABGs and ARGs, respectively. Arsenic addition also caused increased expression of genes associated with replication and repair. A significant relationship was observed between ABG and ARG expression, for instance, genes involved in arsenic reduction and oxidation were influenced by genes involved in aminoglycoside and chloramphenicol resistance genes (p < 0.05). High-solid anaerobic digestion (HSAD), as an emerging disposal technology for swine manure, was commonly hampered by the long lag phase and slow startup, resulting in poor performance. Rapid startups by different leachate reflux forms can solve the problem, but related study was scarcely reported. Therefore, metagenomic analysis was used to exploit the effects of different rapid startups on the biogas performance, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) removal and microbial metabolic pathway during HSAD. Compared anaerobic digestion with natural start (T1), three different rapid startups were set, including with autologous leachate reflux (T2), with water reflux (T3) and with exogenous leachate reflux (T4). The results showed that rapid startups (T2-T4) enhanced biogas yield and the cumulative methane yield was increased by 3.7-7.3 times compared with the control. Totally, 922 ARGs were found, most of which belonged to multidrug and MLS ARGs. About 56% of these ARGs could be reduced in T4, while just 32% of ARGs were reduced in T1. Antibiotic efflux pump is the main mechanism of microbial action, which could be decreased largely by these treatments. Moreover, all the rapid startups (T2-T4) made Methanosarcina content (9.59%-75.91%) higher than that in the natural startup of T1 (4.54%-40.27%). This is why these fast-startups helped methane production fast. Network analysis showed that microbial community and environmental factors (pH and VFAs) both contributed to the spread of ARGs. The reconstructed methane metabolic pathway by different identified genes showed that all methanogenesis pathways existed but acetate metabolic pathway was dominant. Environmental bioremediation technologies are undoubtedly more economical and environmental friendly, and present a good application prospect. Microorganisms can be used to monitor environmental changes for their quickly respond to environmental changes. Microbiological molecular biology methods have attracted more and more attention from human beings, and their applications in the environment is also expanding. Genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics are four major molecular biology techniques. This review summarizes application of molecular biological methods in environmental engineering in 2017. The summary includes methods for DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, the application of four major technologies in the environmental field, and commonly used methods for in situ monitoring in the environment, including fluorescence in situ hybridization, real-time quantitative PCR, and amplicons sequencing technology.

In this paper, removal model of activated sludge, cultivation and application of granular sludge, the population dynamics, removal and influence of toxic pollutants, and design and control of the sewage treatment system are reviewed in 2017. Several studies suggest that the cultivation of granular sludge is mainly affected by aeration rate, hydraulic velocity and culture environment. Toxic pollutants can be partially degraded by microorganisms, which lead to the change of microbial community structure. The co-digestion of activated sludge and other solid wastes can produce biomass energy, which is a more promising and solid waste treatment method.

A review of the literatures published in 2017 on topics relating to anaerobic process issues in the improvement of biogas production and fermentation efficiency of various kinds of organic waste. New process methodology and technology of digestion is also presented. This review is divided into the following sections: pretreatment, organic waste and co-digestion, multiple-stage process, process methodology and technology.

Emerging pollutants (EPs) are a class of chemical pollutants that have potential or substantial threats to human health and ecological environment. EPs mainly include pharmaceuticals and personal care products, endocrine disrupting chemicals, antibiotics, persistent organic pollutants, disinfection by-products and other industrial chemicals, etc. In recent years, with the improvement of environmental analysis level, these substances have been detected frequently in urban sewage, surface water and drinking water all over the world. The continuous detection of EPs brings new challenges to water pollution control, and also makes EPs treatment an international research hotspot. This paper summarizes some research results on emerging pollutants treatment published in 2017.

The ecological security index (ESI) system including 27 indices for Heilongjiang Province was built up with the pressure-state-response (P-S-R) model. The weights of the indices were determined by analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and the ecological security status classification was evaluated by the ESI model for the years of 2000-2005. Then the development trend of ecological security from 2006 to 2010 was forecasted with the grey dynamic model. The results showed that the ecological security ranked the V grade in 2000 and the III grade in 2005, indicating the increase of ecological security. The forecasting results show that the ecological security will be the III grade for 2006, the II grade for 2007-2009, and the I grade for 2010 (ideal security). Thus it can be seen that the ecological security is ascending year by year, and the ecological environment quality is obviously improved with the implementation of eco-province construction since 2000. Through the effective facilitation of eco-province construction etc., the sustainable and healthy development of ecological security will be finally realized in Heilongjiang Province.
