In a previous study, we reported that transplantation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) significantly attenuated liver damage in a mouse autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) model. Moreover, expression of the LIM domain protein, LMO7, correlated positively with the invasive capacity of hepatoma cells. However, whether LMO7 plays a role in inflammation and fibrosis of AIH remains unknown. This investigation aimed to explore the effect of BMSC transplantation on LMO7 and the role of LMO7 in hepatic fibrosis.S100-induced murine AIH and LPS-induced hepatocyte injury models were successfully established. Three doses of BMSCs were injected into AIH mice via the tail vein. LPS-treated AML12 cells were co-cultured with BMSCs in vitro. Small interfering (si) LMO7 RNA and T5224 (a specific inhibitor of AP-1) were used to demonstrate the relationship between LMO7-AP1-transforming growth factor (TGF)-β.Pathological examination and serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferase levels indicated that liver damage was notably ameliorated in the BMSC-treated mice. LMO7 level was upregulated, while AP-1 and TGF-β levels were downregulated upon intervention with BMSCs. AP-1 expression was upregulated in the siLMO7 group, whereas TGF-β level was downregulated in the T5224 group when compared to those in the control group.BMSC transplantation significantly limits liver fibrosis and upregulates the expression of LMO7. LMO7 inhibits the TGF-β pathway by inhibiting AP-1. This implies that BMSCs are a potential means of treating liver fibrosis. This approach has important implications for the treatment of AIH and other fibrotic diseases.

In this paper, we presented a detailed timing analysis of a prominent outburst of 4U 0115+63 detected by \textit{Insight}-HXMT in 2017 August. The spin period of the neutron star was determined to be $3.61398\pm 0.00002$ s at MJD 57978. We measured the period variability and extract the orbital elements of the binary system. The angle of periastron evolved with a rate of $0.048\pm0.003$ $yr^{-1}$. The light curves are folded to sketch the pulse profiles in different energy ranges. A multi-peak structure in 1-10 keV is clearly illustrated. We introduced wavelet analysis into our data analysis procedures to study QPO signals and perform a detailed wavelet analysis in many different energy ranges. Through the wavelet spectra, we report the discovery of a QPO at the frequency $\sim 10$ mHz. In addition, the X-ray light curves showed multiple QPOs in the period of $\sim 16-32 $ s and $\sim 67- 200 $ s. We found that the $\sim100$ s QPO was significant in most of the observations and energies. There exist positive relations between X-ray luminosity and their Q-factors and S-factors, while the QPO periods have no correlation with X-ray luminosity. In wavelet phase maps, we found that the pulse phase of $\sim 67- 200 $ s QPO drifting frequently while the $\sim 16-32 $ s QPO scarcely drifting. The dissipation of oscillations from high energy to low energy was also observed. These features of QPOs in 4U 0115+63 provide new challenge to our understanding of their physical origins., 14 pages, 9 figures, and 6 tables. We assessed the quality of online health and nutrition information using a Google™ search on “supplements for cancer”. Search results were scored using the Health Information Quality Index (HIQI), a quality-rating tool consisting of 12 objective criteria related to website domain, lack of commercial aspects, and authoritative nature of the health and nutrition information provided. Possible scores ranged from 0 (lowest) to 12 (“perfect” or highest quality). After eliminating irrelevant results, the remaining 160 search results had median and mean scores of 8. One-quarter of the results were of high quality (score of 10–12). There was no correlation between high-quality scores and early appearance in the sequence of search results, where results are presumably more visible. Also, 496 advertisements, over twice the number of search results, appeared. We conclude that the Google™ search engine may have shortcomings when used to obtain information on dietary supplements and cancer., Only a quarter of Google™ search results on “supplements for cancer” were high quality and objective, and those that were did not appear prominently in the search results.

Invading breast cancer cells transform the mechanics of their surroundings across a panorama of time scales., Living tissues embody a unique class of hybrid materials in which active and thermal forces are inextricably linked. Mechanical characterization of tissues demands descriptors that respect this hybrid nature. In this work, we develop a microrheology-based force spectrum analysis (FSA) technique to dissect the active and passive fluctuations of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models. In two different stromal models and a 3D breast cancer spheroid model, our FSA reveals emergent hybrid dynamics that involve both high-frequency stress stiffening and low-frequency fluidization of the ECM. We show that this is a general consequence of nonlinear coupling between active forces and the frequency-dependent viscoelasticity of stress-stiffening networks. In 3D breast cancer spheroids, this dual active stiffening and fluidization is tightly connected with invasion. Our results suggest a mechanism whereby breast cancer cells reconcile the seemingly contradictory requirements for both tension and malleability in the ECM during invasion.

We present a method for using dynamic light scattering in the single-scattering limit to measure the viscoelastic moduli of soft materials. This microrheology technique only requires a small sample volume of 12 μL to measure up to six decades in time of rheological behavior. We demonstrate the use of dynamic light scattering microrheology (DLSμR) on a variety of soft materials, including dilute polymer solutions, covalently-crosslinked polymer gels, and active, biological fluids. In this work, we detail the procedure for applying the technique to new materials and discuss the critical considerations for implementing the technique, including a custom analysis script for analyzing data output. We focus on the advantages of applying DLSμR to biologically relevant materials: breast cancer cells encapsulated in a collagen gel and cystic fibrosis sputum. DLSμR is an easy, efficient, and economical rheological technique that can guide the design of new polymeric materials and facilitate the understanding of the underlying physics governing behavior of naturally derived materials.

The Gravitational Wave highly energetic Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) is dedicated to detecting gravitational wave gamma-ray bursts. It is capable of all-sky monitoring over and discovering gamma-ray bursts and new radiation phenomena. GECAM consists of two microsatellites, each equipped with 8 charged particle detectors (CPDs) and 25 gamma-ray detectors (GRDs). The CPD is used to measure charged particles in the space environment, monitor energy and flow intensity changes, and identify between gamma-ray bursts and space charged particle events in conjunction with GRD. CPD uses plastic scintillator as the sensitive material for detection, silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array as the optically readable device, and the inlaid Am-241 radioactive source as the onboard calibration means. The Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) satellite consists of two small satellites. Each GECAM payload contains 25 gamma ray detectors (GRD) and 8 charged particle detectors (CPD). GRD is the main detector which can detect gamma-rays and particles and localize the Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB),while CPD is used to help GRD to discriminate gamma-ray bursts and charged particle bursts. The GRD makes use of lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) crystal readout by SiPM. As the all available SiPM devices belong to commercial grade, quality assurance tests need to be performed in accordance with the aerospace specifications. In this paper, we present the results of quality assurance tests, especially a detailed mechanism analysis of failed devices during the development of GECAM. This paper also summarizes the application experience of commercial-grade SiPM devices in aerospace payloads, and provides suggestions for forthcoming SiPM space applications., Comment: 13 pages, 23 figures

Background: Each GECAM satellite payload contains 25 gamma-ray detectors (GRDs), which can detect gamma-rays and particles and can roughly localize the Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). GRD was designed using lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) crystal as the sensitive material with the rear end coupled with silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array for readout. Purpose: In aerospace engineering design of GRD, there are many key points to be studied. In this paper, we present the specific design scheme of GRD, the assembly and the performance test results of detectors. Methods: Based on Monte Carlo simulation and experimental test results, the specific schematic design and assembling process ofGRDwere optimized. After being fully assembled, theGRDswere conducted performance tests by using radioactive source and also conducted random vibration tests. Result and conclusion: The test results show that all satellite-borne GRDs have energy resolution, 10 pages, 15 figures

After 34 years, the black-hole candidate EXO 1846-031 went into outburst again in 2019. We investigate its spectral properties in the hard intermediate and the soft states with NuSTAR and Insight-HXMT. A reflection component has been detected in the two spectral states but possibly originating from different illumination spectra: in the intermediate state, the illuminating source is attributed to a hard coronal component, which has been commonly observed in other X-ray binaries, whereas in the soft state the reflection is probably produced by the disk self-irradiation. Both cases support EXO 1846-031 as a low inclination system of ~40 degrees. An absorption line is clearly detected at ~7.2 keV in the hard intermediate state, corresponding to a highly ionized disk wind (log {\xi} > 6.1) with a velocity up to 0.06c. Meanwhile, quasi-simultaneous radio emissions have been detected before and after the X-rays, implying the co-existence of disk winds and jets in this system. Additionally, the observed wind in this source is potentially driven by magnetic forces. The absorption line disappeared in the soft state and a narrow emission line appeared at ~6.7 keV on top of the reflection component, which may be evidence for disk winds, but data with the higher spectral resolution are required to examine this., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

Many Greenland glaciers have been attacked by the ocean from below and, in turn, contributed to sea-level rise from the ice sheet., The retreat and acceleration of Greenland glaciers since the mid-1990s have been attributed to the enhanced intrusion of warm Atlantic Waters (AW) into fjords, but this assertion has not been quantitatively tested on a Greenland-wide basis or included in models. Here, we investigate how AW influenced retreat at 226 marine-terminating glaciers using ocean modeling, remote sensing, and in situ observations. We identify 74 glaciers in deep fjords with AW controlling 49% of the mass loss that retreated when warming increased undercutting by 48%. Conversely, 27 glaciers calving on shallow ridges and 24 in cold, shallow waters retreated little, contributing 15% of the loss, while 10 glaciers retreated substantially following the collapse of several ice shelves. The retreat mechanisms remain undiagnosed at 87 glaciers without ocean and bathymetry data, which controlled 19% of the loss. Ice sheet projections that exclude ocean-induced undercutting may underestimate mass loss by at least a factor of 2.

Based on Insight-HXMT data, we report on the pulse fraction evolution during the 2017–2018 outburst of the newly discovered first Galactic ultraluminous X-ray (ULX) source Swift J0243.6+6124. The pulse fractions of 19 observation pairs selected in the rising and fading phases with similar luminosity are investigated. The results show a general trend of the pulse fraction increasing with luminosity and energy at supercritical luminosity. However, the relative strength of the pulsation between each pair evolves strongly with luminosity. The pulse fraction in the rising phase is larger at luminosity below 7.71 × 1038 erg s−1, but smaller at above. A transition luminosity is found to be energy independent. Such a phenomenon is first confirmed by Insight-HXMT observations and we speculate that it may have relation with the radiation-pressure-dominated accretion disc.

This study aims to elucidate how sevoflurane affects the malignant progression of gastric cancer (GC) and its pharmacological mechanism.Dose-dependent and time-dependent regulations of sevoflurane on proliferation inhibition rate in AGS and BGC-823 cells were examined, and thus the optimal dose and treatment time of sevoflurane on GC cells were selected. Subsequently, proliferative and migratory abilities in sevoflurane-induced AGS and BGC-823 cells (3.4% sevoflurane induction for 6 h) were detected by CCK-8 and transwell assay, respectively. After sevoflurane induction, relative levels of miR-34a and TGIF2 in GC cells were determined by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Regulatory effects of miR-34a on GC cell phenotypes were also assessed. Furthermore, the in vivo function of miR-34a in GC growth was explored by generating xenografted GC in nude mice.Sevoflurane induction time-dependently and dose-dependently enhanced proliferation inhibition rate in AGS and BGC-823 cells. The proliferative and migratory abilities in GC cells induced with 3.4% sevoflurane for 6 h were markedly attenuated. sevoflurane induction upregulated miR-34a, but downregulated TGIF2 in GC cells. TGIF2 was negatively regulated by miR-34a. Notably, overexpression of miR-34a inhibited proliferative and migratory abilities in sevoflurane-induced GC cells, and knockdown of miR-34a yielded the opposite results. In nude mice with xenografted GC tissues, sevoflurane treatment markedly reduced tumorigenic ability, which was improved by knockdown of miR-34a.Sevoflurane weakens proliferative and migratory abilities in GC by upregulating miR-34a and downregulating TGIF2.

Excitonic insulator (EI) is an intriguing insulating phase of matter, where electrons and holes are bonded into pairs, so called excitons, and form a phase-coherent state via Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC). Its theoretical concept has been proposed several decades ago, but the followed research is very limited, due to the rare occurrence of EI in natural materials and the lack of manipulating method of excitonic condensation. In this paper, we report the realization of a doping-controlled EI-to-semi-metal transition in Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ using $in$-$situ$ potassium deposition. Combining with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we delineate the evolution of electronic structure through the EI transition with unprecedented precision. The results not only show that Ta$ _2 $NiSe$ _5 $ (TNS) is an EI originated from a semi-metal non-interacting band structure, but also resolve two sequential transitions, which could be attributed to the phase-decoherence and pair-breaking respectively. Our results unveil the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS)-BEC crossover behavior of TNS and demonstrate that its band structure and excitonic binding energy can be tuned precisely via alkali-metal deposition. We present the observational results from a detailed timing analysis of the black hole candidate EXO 1846–031 during its outburst in 2019 with the observations of Insight-HXMT, NICER and MAXI. This outburst can be classified roughly into four different states. Type-C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) observed by NICER (about 0.1–6 Hz) and Insight-HXMT (about 0.7–8 Hz) are also reported in this work. Meanwhile, we study various physical quantities related to QPO frequency. The QPO rms–frequency relationship in the energy band 1–10 keV indicates that there is a turning pointing in frequency around 2 Hz, which is similar to that of GRS 1915+105. A possible hypothesis for the relationship above may be related to the inclination of the source, which may require a high inclination to explain it. The relationships between QPO frequency and QPO rms, hardness, total fractional rms and count rate have also been found in other transient sources, which can indicate that the origin of type–C QPOs is non-thermal.

Low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (LFQPOs) are commonly found in black hole X-ray binaries, and their origin is still under debate. The properties of LFQPOs at high energies (above 30 keV) are closely related to the nature of the accretion flow in the innermost regions, and thus play a crucial role in critically testing various theoretical models. The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) is capable of detecting emissions above 30 keV, and is therefore an ideal instrument to do so. Here we report the discovery of LFQPOs above 200 keV in the new black hole MAXI J1820+070 in the X-ray hard state, which allows us to understand the behaviours of LFQPOs at hundreds of kiloelectronvolts. The phase lag of the LFQPO is constant around zero below 30 keV, and becomes a soft lag (that is, the high-energy photons arrive first) above 30 keV. The soft lag gradually increases with energy and reaches ~0.9s in the 150-200 keV band. The detection at energies above 200 keV, the large soft lag and the energy-related behaviors of the LFQPO pose a great challenge for most currently existing models, but suggest that the LFQPO probably originates from the precession of a small-scale jet., 36 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables; published in Nature Astronomy

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are short pulses observed in radio band from cosmological distances, some of which emit repeating bursts. The physical origins of these mysterious events have been subject to wide speculations and heated debates. One class of models invoke soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs), or magnetars, as the sources of FRBs. Magnetars are rotating neutron stars with extremely strong magnetic field and can sporadically emit bursts from X-ray (keV) to soft gamma-ray (sub-MeV) with duration from 10􀀀2 s to 102 s. However, even though some bright radio bursts have been observed from some magnetars, no FRB-like events had been detected to be associated with any magnetar burst, including one giant flare, and no radio burst has been associated with any X-ray event from any magnetar. Therefore, there is still no observational evidence for magnetar-FRB association up to today. Recently, a pair of FRB-like bursts (FRB~200428 hereafter) separated by 30 milliseconds (ms) were detected from the general direction of the Galactic magnetar SGR~J1935+2154. Here we report the detection of a non-thermal X-ray burst in the 1--250\,keV energy band with the Insight-HXMT satellite, which we identify as emitted from SGR~J1935+2154. The burst showed two hard peaks with a separation of ms, consistent with the separation between the two bursts in FRB~200428. The delay time between the double radio and X-ray peaks is 8:57s, fully consistent with the dispersion delay of FRB~200428. We thus identify the non-thermal X-ray burst is associated with FRB~200428 whose high energy counterpart is the two hard peaks in X-ray. Our results suggest that the non-thermal X-ray burst and FRB~200428 share the same physical origin in an explosive event from SGR~J1935+2154.

Urban built-up area change information in multiple periods is a pivotal factor in global climate change application and sustainable development research. Due to spatial-temporal expression of land cover types, processing speed and operability, built-up area change information extraction using Landsat time series data is still a challenging task. To provide insights into the inter-annual dynamic of land use change, focusing on how time series characteristics improves recognition of urban change and how much online extraction convenience is facilitated, this paper presents a new methodology to built-up change area extraction using inter-annual time series of Landsat images. The central premise of the approach is that time series characteristics are firstly expressed by spectral index. The logistic algorithm is then used in time series trajectory modelling of land cover types for annual urban built-up change area extraction. Finally, the individual steps of the whole process, including image selection, time series trajectory modelling and results display, are converted to web service for online processing. The further comparison is also conducted between the proposed method and post-classification comparison method. Results show that the online processing mode has strengths regarding the provision of functionality to user-end, the automation of recurring tasks or the sharing of workflows. Results also demonstrate that the proposed method improves the accuracy of annual urban built-up change area extraction.

Alkaline-earth iron arsenide (122) is one of the most studied families of iron-based superconductors, especially for angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. While extensive photoemission results have been obtained, the surface complexity of 122 caused by its charge-non-neutral surface is rarely considered. Here, we show that the surface of 122 can be neutralized by potassium deposition. In potassium-coated BaFe$_2$(As$_{0.7}$P$_{0.3}$)$_2$, the surface-induced spectral broadening is strongly suppressed, and hence the coherent spectra that reflect the intrinsic bulk electronic state recover. This enables the measuring of superconducting gap with unpreceded precision. The result shows the existence of two pairing channels. While the gap anisotropy on the outer hole/electron pockets can be well fitted using an s$_\pm$ gap function, the gap anisotropy on the inner hole/electron shows a clear deviation. Our results provide quantitative constraints for refining theoretical models and also demonstrate an experimental method for revealing the intrinsic electronic properties of 122 in future studies., 14 pages, 4 figures with Supplementary Information

颈部淋巴结转移是甲状腺乳头状癌（papillary thyroid carcinoma，PTC）主要的转移方式，其中，中央区是PTC颈部淋巴结转移的常见转移区域，文献报道微小乳头状癌中央区淋巴结的转移率为24.1%~64.1%。目前国际上，在术前评估颈部淋巴结为阴性（cN0）的PTC手术治疗过程中，中央区淋巴结是否行预防性颈清扫尚存争议。中央区淋巴清扫（central lymph node dissection，CLND）可以根治区域淋巴结，但是同时会显著提升术后并发症的发生率。关于中央区淋巴结亚区的研究逐步增多，目的在于让我们对于中央区淋巴结转移规律有一个更深刻的认识，从而有助于PTC患者能够得到更加精确的个体化治疗。淋巴结亚区研究对详细认识肿瘤淋巴结转移规律及为PTC患者CLND提供重要的理论依据。本文回顾和总结近年来的相关文献，对cN0 PTC是否行预防性CLND的现状，中央区淋巴结及其亚区的解剖范围和临床意义，进行综述。.

The viscoelastic behavior of a physically crosslinked gel involves a spectrum of molecular relaxation processes, which at the single-chain level involve the chain undergoing transient hand-to-hand motion through the network. We develop a self-consistent theory for describing transiently associating polymer solutions that captures these complex dynamics. A single polymer chain transiently binds to a viscoelastic background that represents the polymer network formed by surrounding polymer chains. The viscoelastic background is described in the equation of motion as a memory kernel, which is self-consistently determined based on the predicted rheological behavior from the chain itself. The solution to the memory kernel is translated into rheological predictions of the complex modulus over a wide range of frequencies to capture the time-dependent behavior of a physical gel. Using the loss tangent predictions, a phase diagram is shown for the sol-gel transition of polymers with dynamic association affinities. This theory provides a predictive, molecular-level framework for the design of associating gels and supramolecular assemblies with targeted rheological properties.

Artificially created two-dimensional (2D) interfaces or structures are ideal for seeking exotic phase transitions due to their highly tunable carrier density and interfacially enhanced many-body interactions. Here, we report the discovery of a metal-insulator transition (MIT) and an emergent gapped phase in the metal-semiconductor interface that is created in 2H-MoTe_{2} via alkali-metal deposition. Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we found that the electron-phonon coupling is strong at the interface as characterized by a clear observation of replica shake-off bands. Such strong electron-phonon coupling interplays with disorder scattering, leading to an Anderson localization of polarons which could explain the MIT. The domelike emergent gapped phase could then be attributed to a polaron extended state or phonon-mediated superconductivity. Our results demonstrate the capability of alkali-metal deposition as an effective method to enhance the many-body interactions in 2D semiconductors. The surface-doped 2H-MoTe_{2} is a promising candidate for realizing polaronic insulator and high-T_{c} superconductivity.

When passing through a phase transition, electronic system saves energy by opening energy gaps at the Fermi level. Delineating the energy gap anisotropy provides insights into the origin of the interactions that drive the phase transition. Here, we report the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) study on the detailed gap anisotropies in both the tetragonal magnetic and superconducting phases in Sr$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$. First, we found that the spin-density-wave (SDW) gap is strongly anisotropic in the tetragonal magnetic phase. The gap magnitude correlates with the orbital character of Fermi surface closely. Second, we found that the SDW gap anisotropy is isostructural to the superconducting gap anisotropy regarding to the angular dependence, gap minima locations, and relative gap magnitudes. Our results indicate that the superconducting pairing interaction and magnetic interaction share the same origin. The intra-orbital scattering plays an important role in constructing these interactions resulting in the orbital-selective magnetism and superconductivity in iron-based superconductors., 5 pages, 4 figures, See Supplemental Material at http://link.aps.org/supplemental/10.1103/PhysRevLett.124.247002

Transient beam loading effects and microwave instability are very important in ion synchrotrons. A simulation code longitudinal particle tracking code (LPTC) based on multiparticle tracking is developed to simulate the beam loading effects and the longitudinal beam instabilities in the booster ring (BRing) of the High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF). A process of beam capture, acceleration, debunching, and the second capture is simulated with a reference ion beam of ${^{78}\mathrm{Kr}}^{19+}$. The simulation results show that the beam loading effects have major contribution to the beam behavior during the debunching stage and the second capture stage. A feed-forward system is suggested to compensate the beam loading effects, and the main parameters of the feed-forward system are given. The microwave instability of coasting ${^{78}\mathrm{Kr}}^{19+}$ beams is observed from the simulation results. The threshold of the microwave instability is also given. The development of self-bunching and methods to suppress the microwave instability in the BRing are discussed.

We study the evolution of the temporal properties of MAXI 1820+070 during the 2018 outburst in its hard state from MJD 58190 to 58289 with Insight-HXMT in a broad energy band 1-150 keV. We find different behaviors of the hardness ratio, the fractional rms and time lag before and after MJD 58257, suggesting a transition occurred at around this point. The observed time lags between the soft photons in the 1-5 keV band and the hard photons in higher energy bands, up to 150 keV, are frequency-dependent: the time lags in the low-frequency range, 2-10 mHz, are both soft and hard lags with a timescale of dozens of seconds but without a clear trend along the outburst; the time lags in the high-frequency range, 1-10 Hz, are only hard lags with a timescale of tens of milliseconds; first increase until around MJD 58257 and decrease after this date. The high-frequency time lags are significantly correlated to the photon index derived from the fit to the quasi-simultaneous NICER spectrum in the 1-10 keV band. This result is qualitatively consistent with a model in which the high-frequency time lags are produced by Comptonization in a jet., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

Unveiling the driving force for a phase transition is normally difficult when multiple degrees of freedom are strongly coupled. One example is the nematic phase transition in iron-based superconductors. Its mechanism remains controversial due to a complex intertwining among different degrees of freedom. In this Rapid Communication, we report a method for measuring the nematic susceptibly of ${\mathrm{FeSe}}_{0.9}{\mathrm{S}}_{0.1}$ using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and an in situ strain-tuning device. The nematic susceptibility is characterized as an energy shift of band induced by a tunable uniaxial strain. We found that the temperature dependence of the nematic susceptibility is strongly momentum dependent. As the temperature approaches the nematic transition temperature from the high temperature side, the nematic susceptibility remains weak at the Brillouin zone center while showing divergent behavior at the Brillouin zone corner. Our results highlight the complexity of the nematic order parameter in momentum space, which provides crucial clues to the driving mechanism of the nematic phase transition. Our experimental method which can directly probe the electronic susceptibly in momentum space provides a way to study the complex phase transitions in various materials.

Hypo sludge, a waste product from paper industries, has had very few known uses and is usuallyonly disposed of in landfills after the production process. On the other hand, inferior grade soils are being treatedwith commercial additives to improve their characteristics, some of which in return cause harm to the environmentin their production. Hypo sludge possesses roughly identical elements found in that of commercial additives whichhighlight its potential of being a viable substitute to the latter. The study focused on the vertical strain andcompressive property of soils; and 6 design mixes were formulated: 100% soil; 5% hypo sludge – 95% soil; 10%hypo sludge – 90% soil; 15% hypo sludge – 85% soil; 20% hypo sludge – 80% soil; 5% lime – 95% soil.Oedometer tests were conducted to analyze the behavior of the soil when cured with the additive. Results fromtests concluded that the 10% hypo sludge and 90% soil mix was the optimum mix ratio to produce the greatestpositive change in both parameters considered among the other hypo sludge mixes. An empirical model was alsodeveloped which determines the vertical strain of a soil sample given an applied vertical load and percentage ofhypo sludge added. Moreover, the mix performed just slightly inferior to the commercial additive, lime, thereforeproving that hypo sludge is at par to that of the typical soil additive. As a result, a purpose for this waste materialhas been discovered.

We use the In data collected during the 2019 outburst from X-ray pulsar 4U 1901+03 to complement the orbital parameters reported by Fermi/GBM. Using the Insight-HXMT, we examine the correlation between the derivative of the intrinsic spin frequency and bolometric flux based on accretion torque models. It was found that the pulse profiles significantly evolve during the outburst. The existence of two types of the profile's pattern discovered in the Insight-HXMT data indicates that this source experienced transition between a super-critical and a sub-critical accretion regime during its 2019 outburst. Based on the evolution of the pulse profiles and the torque model, we derive the distance to 4U 1901+03 as 12.4+-0.2 kpc., 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted by JHEAP

Background Minorities have an increased incidence of early-onset, obesity-related cerebrovascular disease. Unfortunately, effective weight management in this vulnerable population has significant barriers. Objective Our objective was to determine the feasibility and preliminary treatment effects of a smartphone-based weight loss intervention versus food journals to monitor dietary patterns in minority stroke patients. Methods Swipe out Stroke was a pilot prospective randomized controlled trial with open blinded end point. Minority stroke patients and their caregivers were screened for participation using cluster enrollment. We used adaptive randomization for assignment to a behavior intervention with (1) smartphone-based self-monitoring or (2) food journal self-monitoring. The smartphone group used Lose it! to record meals and communicate with us. Reminder messages (first 30 days), weekly summaries plus reminder messages on missed days (days 31-90), and weekly summaries only (days 91-180) were sent via push notifications. The food journal group used paper diaries. Both groups received 4 in-person visits (baseline and 30, 90, and 180 days), culturally competent counseling, and educational materials. The primary outcome was reduced total body weight. Results We enrolled 36 stroke patients (n=23, 64% African American; n=13, 36% Hispanic), 17 in the smartphone group, and 19 in the food journal group. Mean age was 54 (SD 9) years; mean body mass index was 35.7 (SD 5.7) kg/m2; education, employment status, and family history of stroke or obesity did not differ between the groups. Baseline rates of depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 [PHQ-9] score median 5.5, IQR 3.0-9.5), cognitive impairment (Montreal Cognitive Assessment score median 23.5, IQR 21-26), and inability to ambulate (5/36, 14% with modified Rankin Scale score 3) were similar. In total, 25 (69%) stroke survivors completed Swipe out Stroke (13/17 in the smartphone group, 12/19 in the food journal group); 1 participant in the smartphone group died. Median weight change at 180 days was 5.7 lb (IQR –2.4 to 8.0) in the smartphone group versus 6.4 lb (IQR –2.2 to 12.5; P=.77) in the food journal group. Depression was significantly lower at 30 days in the smartphone group than in the food journal group (PHQ-9 score 2 vs 8; P=.03). Clinically relevant depression rates remained in the zero to minimal range for the smartphone group compared with mild to moderate range in the food journal group at day 90 (PHQ-9 score 3.5 vs 4.5; P=.39) and day 180 (PHQ-9 score 3 vs 6; P=.12). Conclusions In a population of obese minority stroke survivors, the use of a smartphone did not lead to a significant difference in weight change compared with keeping a food journal. The presence of baseline depression (19/36, 53%) was a confounding variable, which improved with app engagement. Future studies that include treatment of poststroke depression may positively influence intervention efficacy. The transverse broadband impedances of major components in the BRing (booster ring) of HIAF (High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility) are estimated using the analytical formulas or the wakefield solver in the CST Studio Suite. At low frequency, the transverse broadband impedance model of BRing is ${Z}_{1}^{H}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}417.14i\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}(\mathrm{horizontal})$ and ${Z}_{1}^{V}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}530.19i\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}(\mathrm{vertical})$, which are larger than the threshold impedance for the transverse mode-coupling instability. The ceramic rings in the vacuum chamber are the primary source of impedance. With a goal of mitigating the instability by reducing the impedance of ceramic rings, a high conductivity coating is discussed in detail. In addition, a prototype of ceramic rings-loaded thin-wall vacuum chamber is manufactured and the impedance measurements are performed. When ceramic rings are coated by $2\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$-copper, the CST simulation and experiment results show that the transverse broadband impedance of ceramic rings-loaded thin-wall vacuum chamber can be reduced from ${Z}_{1}^{H}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}291.69i\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$ and ${Z}_{1}^{V}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}352.37i\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$ to ${Z}_{1}^{H}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}46.16i\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$ and ${Z}_{1}^{V}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}64.56i\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$. Furthermore, in this case the transverse broadband impedance model of BRing is reduced by more than 50% to ${Z}_{1}^{H}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}171.61i\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$ and ${Z}_{1}^{V}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{-}242.38i\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Omega}}/\mathrm{m}$.

It was previously shown that Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP)-9 is constitutively produced and secreted by hepatic stellate cells (HSC). Upon acute liver damage, BMP-9 expression is transiently down-regulated and blocking BMP-9 under conditions of chronic damage ameliorated liver fibrogenesis in C57BL/6 mice. Thereby, BMP-9 acted as a pro-fibrogenic cytokine in the liver but without directly activating isolated HSC in vitro. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), an endotoxin derived from the membrane of Gram-negative bacteria in the gut, is known to be essential in the pathogenesis of diverse kinds of liver diseases. The aim of the present project was therefore to investigate how high levels of BMP-9 in the context of LPS signalling might result in enhanced liver damage. For this purpose, we stimulated human liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC) with LPS and incubated primary human liver myofibroblasts (MF) with the conditioned medium of these cells. We found that LPS led to the secretion of factors from LSEC that upregulate BMP-9 expression in MF. At least one of these BMP-9 enhancing factors was defined to be IL-6. High BMP-9 in turn, especially in combination with LPS stimulation, induced the expression of certain capillarization markers in LSEC and enhanced the LPS-mediated induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines in primary human macrophages. In LSEC, pre-treatment with BMP-9 reduced the LPS-mediated activation of the NfkB pathway, whereas in macrophages, LPS partially inhibited the BMP-9/Smad-1 signaling cascade. In vivo, in mice, BMP-9 led to the enhanced presence of F4/80-positive cells in the liver and it modulated the LPS-mediated regulation of inflammatory mediators. In summary, our data point to BMP-9 being a complex and highly dynamic modulator of hepatic responses to LPS: Initial effects of LPS on LSEC led to the upregulation of BMP-9 in MF but sustained high levels of BMP-9 in turn promote pro-inflammatory reactions of macrophages. Thereby, the spatial and timely fine-tuned presence (or absence) of BMP-9 is needed for efficient wound-healing responses in the liver.

As China's first X-ray astronomical satellite, the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), which was dubbed as Insight-HXMT after the launch on June 15, 2017, is a wide-band (1-250 keV) slat-collimator-based X-ray astronomy satellite with the capability of all-sky monitoring in 0.2-3 MeV. It was designed to perform pointing, scanning and gamma-ray burst (GRB) observations and, based on the Direct Demodulation Method (DDM), the image of the scanned sky region can be reconstructed. Here we give an overview of the mission and its progresses, including payload, core sciences, ground calibration/facility, ground segment, data archive, software, in-orbit performance, calibration, background model, observations and some preliminary results., 29 pages, 40 figures, 6 tables, to appear in Sci. We report on our analysis of the 2019 outburst of the X-ray accreting pulsar 4U 1901+03 observed with Insight-HXMT and NICER. Both spectra and pulse profiles evolve significantly in the decaying phase of the outburst. Dozens of flares are observed throughout the outburst. They are more frequent and brighter at the outburst peak. We find that the flares, which have a duration from tens to hundreds of seconds, are generally brighter than the persistent emission by a factor of $\sim$ 1.5. The pulse profile shape during the flares can be significantly different than that of the persistent emission. In particular, a phase shift is clearly observed in many cases. We interpret these findings as direct evidence of changes of the pulsed beam pattern, due to transitions between the sub- and super-critical accretion regimes on a short time scale. We also observe that at comparable luminosities the flares' pulse profiles are rather similar to those of the persistent emission. This indicates that the accretion on the polar cap of the neutron star is mainly determined by the luminosity, i.e., the mass accretion rate., 11 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

1T-TaS2 undergoes successive phase transitions upon cooling and eventually enters an insulating state of mysterious origin. Some consider this state to be a band insulator with interlayer stacking order, yet others attribute it to Mott physics that support a quantum spin liquid state. Here, we determine the electronic and structural properties of 1T-TaS2 using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and X-Ray diffraction. At low temperatures, the 2π/2c-periodic band dispersion, along with half-integer-indexed diffraction peaks along the c axis, unambiguously indicates that the ground state of 1T-TaS2 is a band insulator with interlayer dimerization. Upon heating, however, the system undergoes a transition into a Mott insulating state, which only exists in a narrow temperature window. Our results refute the idea of searching for quantum magnetism in 1T-TaS2 only at low temperatures, and highlight the competition between on-site Coulomb repulsion and interlayer hopping as a crucial aspect for understanding the material’s electronic properties., 1T-TaS2 possesses complex electronic phase behaviors in transition-metal di-chalcogenides, undergoing several charge-ordered phases before finally into an insulating state of unknown origin. Here, the authors determine its electronic and structural properties experimentally, revealing its origin.

No robust detection of prompt electromagnetic counterparts to fast radio bursts (FRBs) has yet been obtained, in spite of several multi-wavelength searches carried out so far. Specifically, X/gamma-ray counterparts are predicted by some models. We planned on searching for prompt gamma-ray counterparts in the Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) data, taking advantage of the unique combination of large effective area in the keV-MeV energy range and of sub-ms time resolution. We selected 39 FRBs that were promptly visible from the High-Energy (HE) instrument aboard Insight-HXMT. After calculating the expected arrival times at the location of the spacecraft, we searched for a significant excess in both individual and cumulative time profiles over a wide range of time resolutions, from several seconds down to sub-ms scales. Using the dispersion measures in excess of the Galactic terms, we estimated the upper limits on the redshifts. No convincing signal was found and for each FRB we constrained the gamma-ray isotropic-equivalent luminosity and the released energy as a function of emission timescale. For the nearest FRB source, the periodic repeater FRB180916.J0158+65, we find $L_{\gamma,iso}, Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, 6 tables, accepted by A&A

We report on the observation of the accreting pulsar GRO J1008-57 performed by Insight-HXMT at the peak of the source's 2017 outburst. Pulsations are detected with a spin period of 93.283(1) s. The pulse profile shows double peaks at soft X-rays, and only one peak above 20 keV. The spectrum is well described by the phenomenological models of X-ray pulsars. A cyclotron resonant scattering feature is detected with very high statistical significance at a centroid energy of $E_{\rm cyc}=90.32_{-0.28}^{+0.32}$ keV, for the reference continuum and line models, HIGHECUT and GABS respectively. Detection is very robust with respect to different continuum models. The line energy is significantly higher than what suggested from previous observations, which provided very marginal evidence for the line. This establishes a new record for the centroid energy of a fundamental cyclotron resonant scattering feature observed in accreting pulsars.
