Abstract

Resumo: O ensaio busca desenvolver uma leitura de um artifício crítico que Raúl Antelo elaborou em Maria con Marcel (2006), sua dimensão infraleve ora presente, ora ausente diante do encontro com os mais heterogêneos objetos textuais que são a base de uma ficção-crítica. Ele os recolhe, os remodela, os embaralha, refazendo e desfazendo procedimentos críticos a partir de uma mesa de montagem e de procedimentos da anamnese. Da Crítica acéfala (2008) às Archifilologías latinoamericanas (2015), por exemplo, Raúl Antelo lida com os limites das possibilidades deste jogo de leitura. Resumen: El ensayo busca desarrollar una lectura de un artificio crítico que Raúl Antelo elaboró en Maria con Marcel (2006), su dimensión infralleve a veces presente, a veces ausente ante el encuentro con los objetos textuales más heterogéneos que son la base de una ficción crítica. Los recoge, los remodela, los baraja, rehace y deshace procedimientos críticos de una mesa de montaje y procedimientos de anamnesis. Desde el Crítica acéfala (2008) hasta las Archifilologías Latinoamericanas (2015), por ejemplo, Raúl Antelo trata los límites de las posibilidades de este juego de lectura.

Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa uses multiple protein regulators that work in tandem to control the production of a wide range of virulence factors and facilitate rapid adaptation to diverse environmental conditions. In this opportunistic pathogen, ToxR was known to positively regulate the production of the major virulence factor exotoxin A and now, through analysis of genetic changes between two sublines of P. aeruginosa PAO1 and functional complementation of swarming, we have identified a previously unknown role of ToxR in surface-associated motility in P. aeruginosa. Further analysis revealed that ToxR had an impact on swarming motility by regulating the Rhl quorum sensing system and subsequent production of rhamnolipid surfactants. Additionally, ToxR was found to tightly bind cyclic diguanylate (c-di-GMP) and negatively affect traits controlled by this second messenger including reducing biofilm formation and the expression of Psl and Pel exopolysaccharides, necessary for attachment and sessile communities matrix scaffolding, in P. aeruginosa. Moreover, a link between the post-transcriptional regulator RsmA and toxR expression via the alternative sigma factor PvdS, induced under iron-limiting conditions, is established. This study reveals the importance of ToxR in a sophisticated regulation of free-living and biofilm-associated lifestyles, appropriate for establishing acute or chronic P. aeruginosa infections.

Abstract

The main objective of the BeonNAT project is to create added-value bio-based products by growing underused tree and shrub species in marginal land. One of the species selected within the project is juniper (Juniperus communis L). Foliage biomass coming from a natural population in Spain was selected and a first sampling of wild biomass (1000 kg fresh plants with stem diameters below 50 mm) was performed. This biomass was distilled and, after it, different alternatives were defined in the project to obtain bioproducts from the distilled biomass following the cascade concept. Among them, absorbents for the pet industry and biochar have been selected in this work. Concerning the steam distillation, an essential oil yield of 0.44% (w/w d.b) was obtained and the characterisation of the essential oil compounds showed that it was close to meet the limits considered by the ISO 8897:2010. A fraction of the distilled biomass was used to produce pellets, whose quality as absorbents for the pet industry was promising. Finally, the rest of the distilled biomass was used to obtain biochar with a yield of 28.79 % (w/w d.b) and characteristics which indicated a good degree of carbonisation and stability., Proceedings of the 30th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition, 9-12 May 2022, Online, pp. 1035-1041

Abstract

Activitat de formació realitzada sobre l'atenció a la violència masclista (VM) a l'estudiantat del Pràcticum del Grau d'Infermeria de l'Escola d'Infermeria de la Universitat de Barcelona, durant el curs 2018-2019. Formació realitzada en format seminari i amb suport audiovisual i casos clínics. Es varen tractar aspectes de prevenció, detecció i derivació de situacions de VM a les unitats d'urgències, de salut mental, de salut infantil, de salut gerontològica, i de salut sexual i reproductiva. The training activity carried out on the care of sexist violence (VM) is presented to the students of the Practicum of the Degree in Nursing of the School of Nursing of the University of Barcelona, during the 2018-2019 academic year. Training carried out in seminar format and with audiovisual support and clinical cases. Aspects of prevention, detection and referral of VM situations to the emergency, mental health, child health, gerontological health, and sexual and reproductive health units were addressed.

Abstract

The opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces an arsenal of virulence factors causing a wide range of diseases in multiple hosts and is difficult to eradicate due to its intrinsic resistance to antibiotics. With the antibacterial pipeline drying up, antivirulence therapy has become an attractive alternative strategy to the traditional use of antibiotics to treat P. aeruginosa infections. To identify P. aeruginosa genes required for virulence in multiple hosts, a random library of Tn5 mutants in strain PAO1-L was previously screened in vitro for those showing pleiotropic effects in the production of virulence phenotypes. Using this strategy, we identified a Tn5 mutant with an insertion in PA4130 showing reduced levels of a number of virulence traits in vitro Construction of an isogenic mutant in this gene presented results similar to those for the Tn5 mutant. Furthermore, the PA4130 isogenic mutant showed substantial attenuation in disease models of Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans as well as reduced toxicity in human cell lines. Mice infected with this mutant demonstrated an 80% increased survival rate in acute and agar bead lung infection models. PA4130 codes for a protein with homology to nitrite and sulfite reductases. Overexpression of PA4130 in the presence of the siroheme synthase CysG enabled its purification as a soluble protein. Methyl viologen oxidation assays with purified PA4130 showed that this enzyme is a nitrite reductase operating in a ferredoxin-dependent manner. The preference for nitrite and production of ammonium revealed that PA4130 is an ammonia:ferredoxin nitrite reductase and hence was named NirA.IMPORTANCE The emergence of widespread antimicrobial resistance has led to the need for development of novel therapeutic interventions.
