Since field research requires a lot of effort, time, economic and resource investment, it necessitates fact-based tools for a sound preliminary evaluation of the actual possibility to achieve its objective. Such a tool, the Encounter Predictability Scorecard (EPS), is here described for the first time. The rediscovery of the endemic Orthopteran Uromenus annae proved that field research is performed under strong biases including blind faith in previous scientific literature, and expectations about the biology and ecology of the target species. U. annae escaped field researches in the documented localities, and was rediscovered serendipitously in two new unrelated locations. This casts doubt on the capacity of field researchers to assess, even in general terms, the possibility of success of field expeditions. We conceived a method inspired by the performance management tools from the world of corporate strategy: scorecards. The most famous among closed-choice, qualitative-quantitative checklists, is the Balanced Scorecard, based on original work from the late 1980’s. We adapted those methods to the constraints of field research, and field-tested in a retrospective way for the search of U. annae. The EPS is freely available as a digital spreadsheet, and can be tested and customised at any time. Although in its infancy, the EPS looks like a promising operational tool to help saving time and money, and to identify which objectives and organizational setups are more promising. Besides providing a clearer, more rational basis for operational decisions, the straightforward compilation of an EPS may also mitigate the impact of cognitive biases.

Introduction: Regular physical activity (PA) is important for the entire population, equally for healthy people and survivors of breast cancer. Despite the benefits of PA, there are women who do not attain the recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO). Objective: To describe and compare the barriers to PA in women with and without breast cancer. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed. The consisted of 230 women with primary breast cancer diagnosed up to one year and 231 women without breast cancer. Both groups were matched by age (±5 years). The participants answered a questionnaire with questions about barriers to PA and sociodemographic, anthropometric and behavioral characteristics. Results: Women with breast cancer perceived more barriers to PA than those without diagnosis (59.4% versus 40.7%). The barriers most cited by women diagnosed with breast cancer were “feeling discomfort or pain” (59.6%) and “feeling tired” (56.1%). The barriers most mentioned by women without diagnosis were “lack of money” (21.6%) and “lack of company” (19.1%). Conclusion: Women with breast cancer report more barriers than women without the disease. Therefore, it is suggested that they have a lower level of PA in leisure time. The perceived barriers to PA among women with and without breast cancer are similar, but they differ in the physical barriers.

The study reports a consistent comparison of emission inventories, concentration trends, and PM source apportionment in different European regions and, mostly, a thorough investigation of meteorological parameters influencing atmospheric pollutants’ dispersion. The study focuses on the reasons why Northern Italy still has difficulties complying with EU air quality standards for PM10 and NO2, despite strong emission reductions. The study demonstrates that, in the colder seasons, wind speed, PBL height, and atmospheric pressure in the Po basin are three to five times less efficient at diluting and dispersing pollutants than those occurring in regions north of the Alps. Since air quality standards aim at countering health impacts, it is advisable to consider atmospheric particulate toxicity in addition to PM10/PM2.5 mass concentration as a limit value. A discussion is reported about PM toxicity factors depending on source-specific aerosols and PM composition. We obtained PM toxicity factors that can vary by 10 times (according to carbonaceous content) across Europe, suggesting that, even at the same mass concentration, the effects of PM10/PM2.5 on human health are significantly variable. Modern PM source apportionment and reliable toxicity and epidemiological analyses represent the correct tools to build a new consistent health metric for ambient PM.

El empleo a los pobladores locales en las minas es constantemente documentado como un factor de avance y un indicador de desarrollo, que genera mayores ingresos y —por ende— mayor bienestar. Bajo estas suposiciones, es necesario preguntarnos ¿qué entendemos por desarrollo? ¿por bienestar? ¿por progreso? Y también, ¿la tasa de empleo es un indicador completo de estas variables? ¿qué impactos genera el que exista una diferenciación en la contratación entre hombres y mujeres? Es en ese sentido que surge la pregunta que motiva la presente investigación: ¿de qué manera la presencia de una empresa minera altera la repartición de tareas de las familias de la zona? Esta investigación busca estudiar, desde los enfoques que brinda la Sociología del Desarrollo, el cambio en el uso del tiempo de las mujeres en zonas con presencia de industrias extractivas, ilustrándolo con el caso del proyecto minero Las Bambas en Apurímac, Perú.

Every organization and every innovation, including digital transformation, are based on projects; one third of the world’s economy is based on projects. Digital-based innovations consist of “multidisciplinary” prospects based on juridical, organizational, archival and technological dimensions. Moreover the project has to use management methodologies: project management has become an important discipline in this context. The project and its management methodologies use a systemic approach for the management areas. Similarly digital archive innovations require a multidisciplinary approach: it identifies a transformation from the pure analytical approach towards a complex, multidisciplinary and interdependent systems. The project and digital archive initiatives have to strategically use the approach and project oriented organization, based on a multidisciplinary and systemic approach: the “digital project”. This approach requires to measure results of the used digital strategies and to evaluate the relative projects. The strategic perspectives management consists of balanced indicators for the related disciplines, through using Digital Scorecard (DSC), digital archive performance named Overall digital Archive Effectiveness (OAE) and the Digital Manager based on an equilibrium of competences emerging from the application of games theory.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the change in adjuvant therapeutic decision in a cohort of young women with breast cancer discussed by a multidisciplinary team, before and after EndoPredict testing. PATIENTS AND METHODS:99 premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative, T1-T2, and N0-N1 breast cancer were included. Clinicopathological characteristics were recorded and cases were presented in a multidisciplinary tumor board. Consensual therapeutic decisions before and after EndoPredict results were registered. Medical records were reviewed at six-month follow-up to determine physicians' adherence to therapeutic recommendations. Pearson chi-square and McNemar's tests were used to analyze differences between groups and changes in treatment recommendations, respectively. RESULTS:Median age at diagnosis was 43 years. The most frequent tumor size was pT2 (53.5%) and 27% of patients had 1-3 positive lymph nodes. 46% of patients had a low-risk EPclin result. Nodal status and tumor grade were significantly associated with EPclin result (p < .00001 and p = .0110, respectively), while Ki67 levels and age ≤40 years were not. A change in chemotherapy decision was registered in 19.2% of patients (p = .066), with the greatest impact in de-escalation (9% net reduction). A change in chemotherapy or endocrine therapy regimen was suggested in 19% and 20% of cases, respectively, after EPclin results were available. A significant difference was found in the median EPclin score between patients with a low- vs. high-intensity chemotherapy and endocrine therapy regimen recommendation (p = 0.049 and p = 0.0001, respectively). Tumor board treatment recommendation adherence with the EndoPredict result was 95% and final treatment adherence to EPclin result was 93%. CONCLUSIONS:The EndoPredict test successfully assisted the clinical decision-making process in premenopausal patients, with a clinically significant change in overall decision-making, with the greatest impact seen in chemotherapy reduction, and a high rate of therapeutic adherence.

Metastatic extraorbital sebaceous carcinoma is a rare event that could involve the head and neck. The treatment of choice for the initial stage of the disease is surgery and/or radiotherapy. The treatment of recurrent or advanced disease is still controversial.
