Context. Orbital pseudotumor (OP) is a benign inflammatory process of the orbit with a large polymorphous lymphoid infiltrate, associated with fibrosis in variable amounts, localized or diffuse. Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) is the most common cause of proptosis, unilateral or bilateral. Case report. We report a patient with unilateral proptosis who was initially treated with antithyroid drugs for an euthyroid Graves disease, but the extension of the investigation infirmed this. The MRI findings (inflammation of fat, muscle and the left lacrimal gland) in conjunction with the biopsy infirmed the initial diagnostic and confirmed the OP. Conclusions. Orbital pseudotumor is a rare disorder that can image and clinically mimics some inflammatory disease especialy Graves' ophthalmopathy. Orbital MRI represents the most important test for diagnostic. A negative TRAb in euthyroid cases of proptosis can be a serious starting point for investigating an OP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose of Review: This review of the literature aims to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown on teenagers' mental health. We distinguish two groups: adolescents who had already been diagnosed with a mental disorder and the general population of adolescents., Recent Findings: An increase in the number of mental health-related difficulties in adolescents has already been reported in previous health crises. Accordingly, the perceived well-being of teenagers declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adolescents with mental disorders were significantly more affected by the lockdown than those in the general population. The effect of the COVID-19 crisis on the mental health of adolescents has been heterogeneous. The first pandemic wave was essentially associated with an increase of internalizing symptoms in adolescents, particularly anxiety, depression and eating disorders. The impact on externalizing symptoms was less clear, and seem to concern mostly adolescents with pre-existing behavioral disorders. During the second and later waves of the pandemic, an upsurge of suicidal ideation and attempts among adolescents have been reported in many countries., (© 2022. The pre-defined selective positioning of a controlled number of vesicles on a rigid substrate is crucial in many potential applications such as diagnostics, biosensors, lab-on-a chip, microanalyses and reaction chambers. In this paper, the vesicles made up of block copolymer using Poly [-(2-methyloxazoline) -poly- (dimethylsiloxane)-poly- (2-methyloxazoline)] (ABA) with dimensions of 100-200 nm are trapped by physisorption on hydrophilic surfaces. We discuss the protocols established for vesicle trapping. The optimum conditions obtained for physisorption is 15 minutes incubation followed by one cycle of DI water rinse. Trapping of 1-10 vesicles in lobe shape micro-wells fabricated by photo lithography using photoresist on UltraStick(™) slides was demonstrated. To overcome the issue of amalgamation of emitted light from optically sensitive photoresist and fluorescently tagged vesicles, an alternative approach of Si/SiO(2) microwell array coupled with APTES (3-AminoPropylTriEthoxySilane) treated bottom surfaces was developed.

Backgrounds/aims: Certain statins interfere with the mechanism of the hepatitis C virus replication. We aimed at studying the effect of statins on the level of viremia and of the pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the patients with chronic hepatitis C., Methodology: We took in our study all the patients with chronic hepatitis C placed in the evidence of the clinics of internal medicine of the Emergency County Clinical Hospitals of Braşov, Oradea and Sibiu, who had been identified with viremias. The patients were treated with fluvastatin 40 mg/day or lovastatin 20 mg/day for 28 days. The level of viremia, hemoleukogram, hepatic biochemical tests and the pro and anti-inflammatory hepatic cytokines were analysed before and after the treatment. The final results were compared with the initial ones, as well as between the 2 groups., Results: Regarding those 99 analysed patients, the initial average viremia was of 2376074 +/- 3427596 UI/ml, while the final one was of 1321136 +/- 1343570 UI/ml (p = 0.000987). Both, in the group treated with lovastatin, as well as in that treated with fluvastatin, the decrease of viremia was significant from the statistics point of view (p = 0.032, respectively p = 0.00092). Lovastatin administration resulted in the significant decrease of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-alfa, while that of fluvastatin brought about the significant decrease of the serum levels of IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alfa. There were no significant differences, statistically speaking, between the 2 determinations, regarding the levels of IL-10 (anti-inflammatory cytokine) and those of erythropoietin. Transaminases average level did not vary significantly after those 4 weeks of statins treatment., Conclusions: Lovastatin and fluvastatin, significantly decrease the level of viremia, of IL-6 and TNF-alpha in the patients with chronic hepatitis C.
